Chapter Fifty Two
I looked around at the bustling park while standing in the parking lot waiting for everyone. There was so many people in this place that I found it hard to believe we'd ever be able to get on a ride.
After having our tickets purchased, we were given these wristbands that indicated what kind of rides we could get on. Ross tried to tease Hayden into getting a kiddy ride only band but Hayden just ignored him.
"Ceres, we gotta get on this one!" Diana said as she pulled me along with her to some ride that seemed to be going all the way up in the sky and back around in a circular motion.
Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to like this one.
Diana screamed in my ear the entire time and I could barely think straight with the way my stomach kept dropping uncomfortably each time we went around.
"That. Was. Amazing!" Diana cheered after we got off and while she was rushing off to the next ride, I was trying hard to keep my breakfast in my stomach.
At some point we had found the others and decided to all go on something together.
"Ooh! Bumper cars!" Ares exclaimed before grabbing Max and dragging him that way. We all followed him to the somewhat long line that awaited us.
"He can't drive in a real car, so what makes him think he'll be able to drive a fake one?" Lucas said as we waited.
"Yeah, he's a hazard to everyone in there" Max said with a frown.
"This is an amusement park you guys. Just let him have his fun" Lance said with a chuckle.
After waiting a little while, it soon came to be our time to get on the bumper cars. Some of them had two seats while others had one.
Before Diana and I could take off, my hand was grabbed by Ross who gave me a mischievous grin.
"Ross, what do you think you're doing?" Diana asked with a frown etched on her face and Ross gave her a grin.
"It's our turn to have some time together, yes? Hayden is always taking her places and you and Ceres are practically glued to the hip!" Ross said and Diana sighed before looking to Hayden.
"I guess so" Hayden said with a shrug.
"Great! Come on, C!" Ross said before dragging us over to a green bumper car that had two seats. Ross sat in the driver's seat while I sat in the passenger seat. I looked around to see where the rest of my brothers were.
Lance and Max were in a blue car, Ares and Kade in a yellow one, and Roman and Lucas were in a red one.
"Let's have fun, yeah?" Ross said nudging me and I just giggled at his playful words. There was that trickster grin and twinkle in his eyes that said he was planning something. I would just have to wait and see what it was.
Once the workers asked us if we were all ready, they turned on our bumper cars and like that Ross was off.
"Excuse me! Coming through! Move lady!" Ross yelled as he weaved in and out of different cars and we got glares from all the people we passed. Just what was Ross in a rush for?
"Target in sight" Ross said with a grin as he caught up steadily to the yellow bumper car in front of us.
Sitting in the bumper car was Kade and Ares who were arguing about something. Ross let out a maniac like laugh as he bumped roughly into their car making us jolt.
Kade and Ares' car got stuck and Ross stopped next to them.
"What the-?!" Kade exclaimed and looked to us. It was just then that Ross had put an arm around my shoulder and stuck his tongue out at Kade.
"Hey, Mr. Weirdo! It's official, Ceres and I are a thing now! You're totally invited to the wedding too! Now excuse us as we drive off into the sunset~" Ross said with a cackle as he sped off and I could hear Kade's strangled screams from behind us as we drove away.
"CATCH UP TO THAT BASTARD RIGHT NOW!" Kade yelled but Ares was struggling to turn the car around and it kept reversing in the wrong direction, leading them to bump into other people passing by.
The entire time Ares was struggling, we had already made a loop around the track and I couldn't help but let out a sigh as Ross stopped in front of their car once again.
He really did get a kick out of riling Kade up.
"You ladies stuck?" Ross teased and Kade sent him a glare.
"You're so fucking lucky that I can't- hey! Don't drive away in the middle of me speaking to you!" Kade's voice faded farther and farther away as we continued to drive off.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Max and Lance stuck in a corner and I laughed at the sight of it. Roman and Lucas were just driving casually but Hayden seemed to be tightening his seat belt every chance he got as Diana sped around recklessly.
After a while, our cars had come to a stop and Ross was quick to take off as Kade had chased him out of the bumper car section.
"That was something" Lance said with a chuckle and Max frowned.
"Sorry..." he muttered and Lance just gave him a pat on the head.
"It's alright. You did better than Ares who actually had a license at some point" he said and Ares rolled his eyes when hearing the comment.
"It wasn't my fault that I had an aggravated man in the passenger seat constantly yelling at me" Ares said and Roman laughed when hearing that.
"Ross sure is a brave kid" He said and we all nodded in agreement.
We had gone on a few more rides that I found pretty fun before deciding it was time to get something to eat.
The four of us set off to look at all the different food stalls.
"Ooh! Cotton candy!" Diana exclaimed as she drooled over the cloudy candy. Hayden frowned at her choice.
"Diana, cotton candy isn't food. You'll upset your stomach" He said and Diana pouted.
"But it's so yummy!" She said and it was as if watching a parent scold their child as Hayden tried to convince her to eat something else.
"They have crepes!" Ross said and like that, he was off to go get himself one.
"I swear it's like two kids in a candy store" Hayden muttered and I let out a laugh at his words.
After we had all decided on something to eat (Hayden had since given up on trying to lecture them), we grouped back up with my brothers and together we all ate our lunches.
Kade was still upset at Ross as he occasionally sent glares and in return, Ross would grin at him and make comments such as "why you mad bro?", "it was just a joke", "we could really get married if you want something to actually be upset about".
The last comment definitely sent Kade to the line but he didn't cross it and just continued to angrily eat his food.
Once everyone was done, this time, Diana and Ross had gone off to some kind of roller coaster so Hayden and I opted for walking around to let our food digest. As we were walking, a man standing near a stand of stuffed animals called out to us.
"Hey there little lady! How would you like to try your hand at one of the big stuffs?" The guy said as he pointed to the huge stuffed animals that were all lined up.
I wanted to say no, I had so many of them already and just the other day Ares slipped on one of them when coming into my room. I felt bad but the over sized turtle plush in the corner was calling out to me, tempting me to dare and try to win it.
So, I gave in to temptation.
"O-Okay..." I said and he handed me three balls.
"You get three shots in total. Make all three and you can have one of the big stuffs, make two and you get a small stuffs. Make one and you get a key chain" He explained and I nodded.
The three glass bottles were lined up and I eyed the first one on the left. Without hesitating, I threw the ball and it hit the glass straight on. I looked to the one in the middle and did the same before finally hitting the last glass without even thinking about it.
"Woah, little lady, you're seriously good at this!" the guy said.
"Yeah, that was so cool. I hardly doubt I would be able to make all three that fast" Hayden said.
For the sake of a turtle plush, I will do anything.
"Which one would ya like?" The man asked and I pointed directly at the turtle plush. Once the plush was in my arms, I hugged it tightly as to welcome the newest addition to my family.
"Would you like one?" I asked Hayden and he just gave a light laugh with a shake of his head.
"No, it's alright" He said and I frowned before shoving my turtle plush into his hands.
"You also need something to bring home as a memory, so don't worry, I will win you one for sure" I said before heading back to the man.
"Excuse me?" I said and the man looked down at me.
"Oh? Back so soon, little lady?" he asked and I nodded.
"May I try again?" I asked.
"Of course. That will be another three dollars" He said and I nodded and handed him the money before gazing at all of the different plushes. I tried to think of which one would suit Hayden and when finding one, I began taking my aim.
After successfully making all three again, I pointed directly at the stuffs that I wanted.
"Here you go" The man said and I thanked him before heading back to Hayden who was waiting for me to the side.
"...a whale?" he questioned and I nodded.
"It reminds me of you" I said and he frowned.
"Is this your way of calling me fat...?" He asked and I shook my head quickly to which Hayden gave a short chuckle.
"Thank you. You know, I can't help but notice that you seem to say a lot of things look like me" Hayden said as we walked and I just let out a short giggle.
I couldn't help that when I saw these plushes, Hayden's face came to mind. Maybe it's because his cheeks were also chubby like them? Yeah, that's definitely it.
It had soon began to get dark outside and at the time we had only managed to meet up with Roman and Lucas who had said they were done with rides for the day.
"Ceres, let's go on the Ferris wheel" Hayden said as he pointed to the huge Ferris wheel. I looked to Roman who just gave me a slight nod.
"We'll watch your stuff. You guys go on ahead" He said and we thanked him before heading to the Ferris wheel.
As we were standing on the line waiting for our turn, I noticed that Hayden was staring at the dandelions in the grass. There was a far away look in his eyes as he gazed at them and I wondered what he was thinking.
It didn't take long for an answer though.
"You know, my mother once told me that if I blew on one of these with a wish in my heart, someday it would come true" he said and I smiled at that.
"Are you going to make a wish?" I asked and Hayden shook his head and looked at me.
"I've since learned that wishing is a waste of time. I'd rather try to make my wishes come true than spend my time hoping" he said as he looked away from the dandelions.
"But it's still nice to have them" I said and Hayden gave me a small smile.
"Yeah, it can be" He said.
Soon enough it was our turn and as we went up, I couldn't help but be amazed by the high up view of the entire amusement park. All the twinkling lights were just so enticing and suddenly, a bright light formed in the sky.
"Fireworks..." I muttered as I let out a smile. This was honestly one of the most prettiest things that I had ever seen. It was almost on par with the shimmering sea but in my eyes, the sea was still prettier.
It had a natural beauty to it that was unrivaled.
"Ceres, can we talk?" Hayden said and I looked over to him.
"Talk about...?" I said as I looked at him. Hayden took a breath before continuing.
"When I confessed to you back then, I was unsure of myself. I was unsure that I could be someone you'd look to when you needed help, or even just when you needed someone to talk to. I thought that if I could become someone worthy of you, then that would be enough" He started as he looked down at his hands that laid in his lap.
He seemed to be trying to figure out his next words and I waited patiently as he did so.
I too had often thought of the meaning of Hayden's actions and words but in the end, I told myself that I still didn't know enough about love in general. If I was being honest, the idea of romance was something so foreign to me that it confused me greatly. I just wanted to know what I was dealing with before doing anything.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is..." Hayden paused for a moment and a look of frustration crossed his features.
Before Hayden could say anything else, the sound of faint shouting caught my attention. I turned around and looked out the window of our cart and from there, I could see Kade and Ares in the one below us. Kade was shouting things at us that we couldn't hear so it just looked like his mouth was opening and closing very quickly.
"When did he even get there?" Hayden muttered as he looked at Kade.
"No idea..." I said, not even feeling the need to defend Kade as we watched Ares try to tame him.
Soon, our time on the Ferris wheel came to an end but after we got out of our cart the Ferris wheel went back around, meaning Kade and Ares went for another spin.
"What were you trying to say back there?" I asked curiously as we walked to the others.
"It's nothing" He said with a shake of his head and I frowned but let it go.
I trusted that he would tell me when he was ready as I know he would do the same for me.
"Have fun?" Roman asked as we joined him back where he and Lucas were waiting. Everyone else had joined them on the benches and now we were just waiting for Kade and Ares.
"Yes, it was so pretty up there. Did you guys see the fireworks?" I asked and they all nodded.
"This one slept through them" Lance said as he pointed to Max who was snoozing away on Lance's shoulder.
Everyone seemed tuckered out after the long day at the park and once the last members of our party returned to us, we were all ready to go back home.
While in the car, I couldn't help but remember the events of these past few weeks as I held my turtle plush firmly.
I've had so much fun this summer and as I rested my head on my plush, the thoughts of having even more fun followed me into my dreams.
