CHAPTER FIVE
CHAPTER FIVE: FIRST CLASSES
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
ALEX WALKED BESIDE Tianna as they walked out of Transfiguration, which was there first class. The two now had potions class.
Tianna and Alex took a seat beside Neville Longbottom who smiled warmly at them. "Hello Alex, Tianna!" He exclaimed.
Alex returned the smile. "Hey," she said softly. "How're you so far?"
He nodded. "I'm great!" A boy with red hair, similar to Alex's, but much more bright. Alex's red hair was mixed with a bit of brown alongside red, the boy sat in front of Alex, beside a boy Alex had learned to be Harry Potter. The other boy was with Harry earlier, Hermione Granger sat on the other side of Neville.
The boys turned around. "I'm Ron Weasley!" The redhead announced, Hermione rolled her eyes and looked away.
Alex smiled him. "Alex," she said, he nudged Harry.
"Oh!" Harry exclaimed. "Harry Potter."
"I'm Tianna," Tianna exclaimed excitedly. Tianna was energetic, Alex had never really been around anyone like her. But she liked it. "That's Neville." she pointed.
Neville waved slightly and Alex glanced across the room at Draco. He was with Crabbe and Goyle. "Do you know him?" Ron asked, realizing she was looking at Draco.
Before Alex could answer, Tianna spoke up. "They met at Diagon Alley!" She said with a large smile.
Alex nodded. "That's right, yeah. That's all." She told him. "Haven't talked to him since, I was just being polite."
Ron nodded slowly, with a shrug. "Makes sense."
Suddenly the door the the potions room flung open, a man with black hair in a black robe entered. "I am Professor Snape. There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class. As such I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art of this potions making. However for those select few who possess the predisposition, I can teach you how too bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame brew glory and even put a stopper in death." He explained, his eyes were shifting from Alex and Draco constantly. Like he knew them, or of them. Finally he looked at Harry. "Then again maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to not pay attention.
Suddenly Hermione nudged Harry. "Harry" she hissed. Alex looked over and it seemed he was just taking simple notes.
"Mr. Potter our new celebrity. Tell me what I would get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?" Snape asked, Hermione's hand shot in the air. Harry just shook his head. "You don't know? Well let's try again, where Mr. Potter would you look at if I asked you to find me a bezoar?" Hermione hair remained in the air.
"I don't know, sir," Harry said.
"And what is the difference between monkshood and wolfbane?" He asked.
"I don't know, sir," Harry repeated, Hermione still had her hand in the air and was waving it violently.
"Pity. Clearly, fame isn't everything. Is it Mr. Potter?" He asked, raising one eyebrow. Draco had a large grin on his face, he was enjoying himself.
"Clearly, Hermione knows," Harry said. "Seems a pity not to ask her."
The class was laughing and Snape sighed. "Silence," he said. He had a cold expression and a coldness to his voice. He started walking towards Harry. "Put a hand down you silly girl."
Hermione put her hand down with a pout. "But-" she started to say, but decided against it.
He sat infront if Harry. He started explained what he had asked earlier, before turning to the rest of the class. "Why aren't you all copying this down?" He asked and Alex rushed to grab her quill and started taking notes. "Gryffindor's, note that five points will be taken from your house."
-
The next thing Alex knew, was she was heading to flying class. "Snape was scary," Tianna commented, looking over at her.
Alex nodded. "A bit intense." she said with a small shrug. She knew him, a bit before. He had been around the Malfoy's a couple times that she could remember.
Tianna was quiet for a moment, before nodding. "Hm flying class."
She nodded. "Yeah, it's pretty cool." she said. "They made a whole sport out of it, it's called quidditch."
She nodded as well. "I read about it a bit. Seems like a pretty big thing."
Alex heard some loud voices behind them, so she turned around, spotting Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle. She waved at him.
But Draco got a disgusted look on his face that Alex couldn't even comprehend. "What are you doing?" He asked.
"I was just waving..." she mumbled, Tianna turned to look at them.
"Well don't."
Alex frowned and spotted Crabbe looking at Draco confused. "Draco, she's your-" he was cut off by Draco nudging him. "Ow!"
Alex kept the same frown on her face as she sped up past Tianna in the direction of flying class. He didn't understand why all a sudden Draco wanted nothing to do with her. Even if they couldn't be cousins at Hogwarts, they could still be friends.
She arrived outside at flying class, Tianna appeared behind her a few seconds later. "Allie," she said. "Are you alright?"
She nodded. "I'm fine." Their was a collection of brooms lined up on the ground. All the first years stood beside on.
Madam Hooch, the flying class professor, started to put some gloves on and walked down the middle of the two lines of broom. "Good afternoon," She greeted.
"Good afternoon Madam Hooch," a collection of first years said in unison.
"Welcome to your first flying lesson!" She exclaimed. "Well what are you waiting for? Everyone step up to the left side of their broomstick."
Everyone followed her direction, Alex looked down at her broom. They all looked the same. Old, used, and nothing special. Not ideal for quidditch, just training. "Stick your right hand over the broom and say up."
"Up!" Several students said.
"Up!" Alex exclaimed, the broom moved a bit but nothing happened. She glanced over at Harry who had gotten his up first try. She took another go at it. "Up!" the second time, the broom flew up to her hand and she smiled. Her eyes shifted to Tianna who was still struggling. Draco as well, got it after a few tries.
Alex looked at Ron, who groaned in frustration. At one point the broom flew up and smacked Ron in the face. Harry let out a loud laugh and Alex covered her mouth to conceal hers. "Shut up, Harry," he said, glancing at Alex. "You too."
After a few minutes, all the first years were able to successfully get the brooms into their hands. "Now, once you've got ahold of your broom. I want you to mount it," Madam Hooch explained, as she walked around the students. "Grip it tight. You don't want to be sliding off the end."
Alex mounted the broom, grabbing ahold of it tightly. "When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick of the ground, hard," she explained. "Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment, lean forward slightly, and touch back down. On my whistle." She blew it.
Neville was first to rise to his feet, before anyone else got the chance. He looked terrified. "Mr Longbottom!" Madam Hooch said. He was still in the air, rising higher.
"Neville," Alex said, she watched him carefully. Hs was confused on what he was doing.
He suddenly flew off. "Help! Help!" he begged, turning back to look at his classmates, Alex nearly kicked off the ground to help him but Tianna stopped her.
"Come back down here this instant!" Madam Hooch yelled. The broom was out of control, it flung him from side to side. Before he flew around the area before his cape got caught onto a statue. It tore, causing him to drop to another one, the same thing happened again, but this time he went towards the ground.
Madam Hooch rushed over to him. "Oh dear," she said, holding his arm in her hand. "Broken wrist. Come on now, up you go."
Madam Hooch must have noticed the worried expression on not only Neville's face, but also Alex. "Everyone is to stay on the ground while i escort Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing." She told everyone, she glanced at Alex. "Miss Thornbury, you'll come with me. Maybe you can keep Neville calm."
Alex was confused for a moment, but she nodded and followed Madam Hooch and Neville to the hospital wing. She walked beside Neville, he was obviously in pain. "You'll be okay" she reassured him. "I broke my wrist once as well, when I was younger."
Neville glanced over at her, holding his wrist close to his chest. "H-how?" He asked, his voice shaky.
Alex thought for a moment, she was 9 when it happened, and she still remembered it vividly. Her and Draco were playing in their treehouse when she accidentally fell out of it. She landed directly on her wrist.
She smiled slightly, "My cousin and I, he had this treehouse at his house and I went over all the time to play," she explained. "I accidentally fell out of it. I was so upset that I couldn't play anymore. It became a joke between us for awhile."
He nodded slowly. "And you're okay?"
She nodded in return, putting her left wrist up. "Seems fine to me," she said, somewhat in a joking matter.
As they arrived at the hospital wing, Neville took a seat on a bed and Alex followed him. She overheard Madam Hooch telling Madam Pomfrey what happened.
She watched Madam Hooch walk over to her. "Thank you for coming with Neville," she said. Alex nodded. "I'm gonna head back to class, you're welcomed to stay. Just make sure you get to you're next class on time."
She nodded again. "I will, thank you," she said and smiled as Madam Hooch walked away.
-
Later that day, Alex joined Tianna at the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall for lunch. Tianna smiled brightly as she grabbed some food onto her plate. "How's Neville?" She asked.
Alex as well grabbed a bit of lunch as she shrugged. "Madam Pomfrey was helping mend the bones when I left." She looked back at the Gryffindor table, Neville seemed fine. Maybe a bit down, but his wrist seemed fine now. "He seems okay."
She nodded, spotting Neville across the rooms. "What's your favorite class so far?"
The redhead had to think about it. "Probably charms," she finally answered. "You?"
"Potions, even if Snape doesn't seem very nice," She said, a sheepish smile on her face as she glanced up at Snape, he was sitting at the teachers table. A cold expression etched upon his face, per usual.
She shrugged. "Seems like Snape's persona," she admitted.
"Isn't it crazy that we got Harry Potter and possibly Voldemort's kid in our year?" Tianna blurted out, rubbing the back of her neck nervously.
That made Alex freeze. "Wouldn't we know if his kid was here?" She asked. "But... y-yeah."
She shrugged. "I mean maybe. Who do you think it is?"
"I don't know." Alex was suddenly, off. In a way no one could explain.
Tianna raised an eyebrow for a second but shrugged. "What about Draco?" She suggested, shoving a spoonful of food into her mouth.
She shook her head. "Doubt it."
"Why?"
"He's a Malfoy," she explained. Tianna looked confused. "It's a big name in the wizarding world, people just know their family."
Little did Tianna know, she was talking about her own family.
