Chapter Five (Caroline)
"Is she like that a lot now?" Stiles asked after we finished rolling around the ground laughing.
I nodded and let out an extra laugh before getting up and offering my hand to Stiles.
I haven't seen him in person since the funeral of Elena's parents. And back then I didn't really get the chance to play catch up with him. I mean a funeral for his aunt and uncle isn't exactly the place to ask how he's been. Or was it and I missed a great opportunity to be there for him?
He had Jeremy though. Him and Jeremy were always super close. I mean, Jeremy talked about Stiles all the time. Like never shuts up about him. They're closer than the average lair of cousins typically are to each other.
He's grown up a lot since then.
Grew out his hair, definitely starting working out, and he even looks and acts more confident then he used to.
It's attractive.
Now don't worry, I know he's not exactly into girls, even if he doesn't want to put a label on anything yet.
"Yeah. Elena is what you would call a narcissist."
That just made him laugh even harder than he did before. Which I definitely didn't think was possible.
"I just can't believe that you're back. It seems like so long ago since you were last here. I mean you still had your buzz cut."
He wrinkled his nose in disgust. Guess he finally stopped liking the buzz cut.
"Well honestly I'd rather just start fresh with everyone. I mean judging how the last time I was here, I was kind of a wreck. You know what here."
He then turned towards me with a confused, almost estranged look.
"I don't believe that we've met. I'm Stiles and Stilinski and who might you be?"
Oh okay I get it. This is the way he wants to do things now. Totally fine with me. I don't really care. This could be really fun though.
"Um....aren't you a little low classed to be talking to me?" I said in an obviously mocking tone," but I'm Caroline Forbes." And I shook his hand even though he hadn't outstretched it for me to shake.
He laughed at my terrible acting.
"Hey! I'm trying to be a drama major. You can't laugh at my acting- oh right. You don't know me yet. Um..why are you laughing strange man- I can't do this." This causes him to laugh so hard that he ended up back on the grass laughing. Which in turn caused me to laugh so hard that I fell along with him..... again
"Maybe we should save ourselves the trouble and stay down here for a bit." I said which he nodded to.
"Yeah. I'll just laugh hysterically from down here. Also, you might want to consider a different major. Maybe one in teaching."
I slapped him hard in the shoulder.
"Ow! When did you get super strong? Have you been lifting weights or something?" He asked as he held his shoulder.
I totally forgot about my vampire strength, and how my emotions could effects how much of it is actually used.
"Oh yeah totally, when I'm cheerleading I lift sandbags now instead of people." I flexed my non-exempt muscles at him, which he very much acted impressed at.
"Wow Caroline. It seems you've graduated from two pounds weights to five pound weights. Congratulations on your accomplishment."
He held his hand out for a high five but ultimately lowered it when he thought about how hard I could actually hit him.
"Now, should we go see Matt, or do you want to just go get ice cream or something."
His face lit up at the mention of seeing Matt, but he played it off like he was cool and just shrugged through the hidden excitement.
"Whatever you want's fine."
I grabbed his arm and practically dragged him down the street.
"Wait we should do something funny. Oh I know! Act like you don't know him!" He raised his eyebrow in question and looked at me funny.
"Why would that be funny?"
Yeah he's right on that one. I totally took the elementary school prank approach on that one. Since I'm 17 and he's 16, we should probably be past that.
Also, in case anyone makes fun of it, Matt and I do not treat Stiles like he's younger than us, and why does it matter if he's older if it's only one year? We can still be friends no matter the age gap.
"Yeah you're right, never mind, let's just go knock on his door."
I had forgotten how close I actually lived to him seeing as how I hadn't actually been to his house in quite a while. It definitely looked worn down, but with him living by himself, it isn't his fault if things start to fall behind especially with him having the life that he does.
"How bout you go knock and I'll just-"
Wait a second, the door was open.
Matt never leaves the door open. No one ever leaves their doors open in Mystic Falls.
"Hold on Stiles, you stay here." I said to him, he laughed it off but then went silent when I gave him my 100 percent serious look.
Leaving him at the sidewalk, I creeped up to the door, being careful of anyone, and being ready to attack if needed be.
I couldn't hear anyone on the inside, and I could only hear one heartbeat, but it was faint, so I ran inside as fast as I could without using vampire speed.
"Stiles call 911!!" I screamed as I saw Matt lying in a pool of his own blood. I could've given him my blood, but he wouldn't accept it if I tried, and I was too panicky in the moment to do anything other than freak out.
"Just hang on Matt. I'm here, and I'm going to get you help."
Why did our next wave of rogue vampires have to hit when Stiles finally came back to town?
Are we really just that unlucky?
