That weekend
James was getting ready to leave to hang out with Torunn and Morgan, and to say he was nervous was a bit of an understatement. He didn't know why, both girls where his friends, but he wasn't sure why he was having a bad feeling about today. Almost like something was going to happen, he couldn't really explain it.
"Hey James," His mother said knocking on his door. James frowned when he saw his mother standing by his door with an innocent smile lacing her face.
"Here to snoop mom?" He asked as he pulled on a coat. He looked around to see if he could find her phone. James knew that his mother would come here eventually, she always liked to find out as much as she could before he left with his friends.
"Snoop? I don't snoop, I am hurt you'd accuse me of such things. I would never betray your trust as such," Natasha said placing a hand on her heart. "I swear."
"Why do we still act like I don't know what you are doing? The thing you do with your words that confuses me to no end until I forget what we are talking about so you can snoop, can't work on me any longer." He claimed.
"I am playing no trick," She held up her hands. "I am just here to ask you if you needed me to give you a ride." Natasha was very protective of her son, anyone who had eyes could see that. She liked to make sure she knew everything about what he was doing and being the best spy in the world allowed her to figure out all of these things.
"No god please no, I don't need you dropping me off and yelling out you love me," James said, looking through his phone now, not noticing his mother moving around his room.
"That happened one time," She said defensively.
"One time?! It happens every time you drop me off." He said barely looking up long enough to look at his mother, who was reading notes James had on his desk. "I feel like you love to drop me off so you can embarrass me."
"Can't a mother tell her son just how much she loves her son?" Natasha asked with a smile.
"no. Not you. Especially not you and dad. That's a train wreck waiting to happen." James finally put down his phone to look at his mother who was no longer by the door where he last remembered her to be. "Mom! You're snooping!" James said giving her an annoyed look.
"I'm just making sure you're okay," she claimed. "Tell Morgan I say hello. It's very bold of you to go out with both of the girls you are dating."
"What? Eww gross. I am not dating Morgan!"
"But you're dating Torunn?" She asked. "Can't say I am surprised, although I am a bit surprised."
"No! Mom! I am going out with them as friends." He claimed.
"Right, of course, you are. Just remember no to do anything... that will make me a grandmother, I am too young." She said smirking and shaking her head ever so slightly as if to display her disapproval of something like that happening.
"MOM!" He exclaimed while the smirk on Natasha's face stay still, if not growing to twice it's size.
"James bud, you wanna keep it down?" Steve said walking into the room he saw Natasha casually standing by James's desk and raised a curious eyebrow "What's going on?" he asked motioning to her.
"Mom is being Mom again."
"Do you expect any less?" He asked. "Your mother still thinks I am gay."
"Cause you are." She said. "You and Bucky and Sam are in love, well more so with Sam now because Bucky is head over heels in love with Wanda. But you and Sam are just as cute. Maria and I support you."
"When are you going to drop this?" He asked walking over to her.
"When you can fully unconditionally love me and not love your best friends." She smirked.
"You are relentless."
"Of course." She said placing her hands on Steve's chest. "and you love me for it."
"Only you," He said giving her a knowing look. Shaking his head at his wife's behavior, before giving her soft kiss on his lips. Steve turned to his son who was looking at him with absolute disgust on his face. "What?"
"There should be a law against how much PDA parents are allowed to show in front of their kids." James shook his head. "Look as fun as this was I have to go. I am already running late and if I am even later, I am sure Morgan will personally murder me. You know how she is"
"Want a ride?" Steve asked.
"Sure,"
"Hey, I offered you a ride!" Natasha said almost offended.
"Yeah I know, but Dad doesn't embarrass me for his own enjoyment," James said holding up his hands. James walked out of his room yelling a quick goodbye before running down the stairs. Steve looked at his wife who looked very offended and disappointed in her son.
"You know," Steve started. "Sometimes I feel like you love that kid more then you love me." He said.
"What's wrong babe, you jealous?" She teased.
"of course not, now if you will excuse me I have to go resume my job as a chauffeur." He said with a pointed look and sighed. Natasha nodded her head and gave him a peck on lips. "See you later."
"Wanna pick up some muffins on your way home? From Liza's." She asked.
"Liza's is on the other side of town." Natasha frowned giving him a sad puppy dog look with the eyes that she knew he could never say no to even if he wanted to. "But I would be more than happy to go get them for you." She really had him wrapped about her finger, not that he minded or would ever complain about it.
"You're the best." She said giving him a peck on the lips once again.
"I better be," He laughed before leaving the room, she really did have the best husband. Before leaving she looked out the window and called out to James.
"BYE JAMES BE SAFE MAKE GOOD DECISIONS! I LOVE YOU."
"MOM!" He called back and Natasha smirked. She loved her son so much, and points for her for being the best mother in the world. Now, how can she embarrass Sarah today?

Morgan was second to arrive, after Torunn and they really had nothing to talk about as they sat there at the entrance waiting for James. Morgan was literally praying for him to get here as fast as he humanly could. She couldn't take any more of this awkwardness.
"How long have you known James?" Torunn asked, apparently she didn't like the silence either.
"James and I have known each other since before we were born." She stated simply.
"You can't actually know each other before you were born," Torunn stated. There was something off with Torunn but Morgan couldn't pinpoint what it was exactly. She didn't even know Torunn all that well, so even if there was something wrong with her she wouldn't have been able to tell at all.
"Then we grew up together," Morgan corrected. "He's my best friend."
"You mid guardians really pick one person who you like more than all the other ones and claim them as your 'best friend?" Shee asked. "Seems a tad bit rude."
"It's not about like one more, it's more that James and I are just connected, he understands me and I know that if I am ever in trouble I can go to him," Morgan said.
"You speak of James the same way he speaks of you. You two are incredibly close." She smiled kindly at Morgan, which surprised her. "He's lucky to have a friend like you."
"I am the lucky one."
"How so?" She asked.
"James knows how to handle my issues, not a lot of people can do that. He has the purest heart I feel, which is why I think he's so drawn to helping you fit in. It's just who he is. His mother says he gets it from his father."
"They are both wonderful warriors. My father talks highly of both of them, actually all of your parents. He remembers a time when they all fought side by side, and despite the circumstance, he says they were all great times."
"Really from what I hear he didn't like my father all that much," Morgan laughed very slightly.
"My father loves your father's games, especially the drinking ones. Despite his ego, he says he his a good friend."
"That's good to know," Morgan nodded. "I do hope you like it here and don't forget about how lucky you are to have Jame's friendship it's probably the best friendship you could ever experience. The world would surely be a much darker place if James wasn't in it."
"James is a wonderful person. His kind heart is not like any I have ever seen in this world or the next. It only makes what I have to do worse." Morgan froze for a moment before turning to her confused.
"What do you mean? What are you going to do?" She asked. Just as Morgan looked at Torunn, Steve's car pulled into the parking lot, and James said goodbye to his father. Torunn waved excitedly over at him, but Morgan couldn't look away.
"Morgan I know you may not like me, that you think I am out to get in between you and James, but trust me when I say this. I am here for a reason,"
"A reason huh?" She questioned. "And what reason would that be exactly?" Torunn looked at Morgan before turning away once again.
"I am just trying to make sure that Sarah Rogers doesn't die at the hands of her brother."
So yeah that just happened.
