fifty-two.
"Yeah I don't know." Erica Sinclair said to the foursome of teens who were leaned against the wall in the break room, the girl stepping down from the ladder and looking at them.
"You don't know if you can fit?" Dustin asked, Erica raising an eyebrow at him.
"Oh I can fit. I just don't know if I want to." The young girl said, Christine rolling her eyes as she looked over at Dustin to her right.
"Are you claustrophobic?"
"I don't have phobias." Erica said, snickering at the suggestion from Robin that she was afraid of anything.
"Okay, well what's the problem?" Steve asked, lookin at her with confusion.
"The problem is I still haven't heard what's in this for Erica." Steve and Robin shared a look, the two of them proposing that she can get as much ice cream as she wanted. She insisted on getting it now, Dustin and Christine sliding into a booth with her as the ice cream slingers started to scoop her up some ice cream. Dustin and Christine shared numerous looks, Erica soon overcome by a mountain of ice cream to consume.
"More fudge please." She said, pushing the sundae back across the table to a frustrated Steve, who then proceeded to stand up with a glare and headed towards the counter to get more fudge.
"Alright. You see this? This is the route you're gonna take. Then we just wait till the last delivery goes out tonight. Then you knock out the grate, jump down, and open the door." Robin explained, the girl showing Erica the exact route she would have to take.
"Then you find out what's in those boxes?"
"Exactly." Robin nodded.
"Mm-Hmm. And you say this guard is armed?"
"Yes but he won't be there." Christine got irritated, the girl standing from the booth and walking off towards where Steve was. He was mumbling to himself about the fudge, the boy shaking his head as he put a copious amount on the ice cream sundae.
"Hey."
"What?" Steve asked in frustration, the boy turning to look at her with an irritated look.
"Okay damn." She said, lifting her hands in surrender as she took a step back. He leaned against the counter, shaking his head and then letting out a sigh.
"Sorry that girl is just...irritating." Steve said, gesturing towards Erica. Christine nodded slightly, leaning against the counter in front of him. "Did you need something?"
"No...I just didn't want to be over there. You're the next best option." She said, making the boy nod as he added another scoop of ice cream onto the sundae.
"I mean at this point I should just gift her the entire tub." Steve said, gesturing to the ice cream. Christine chuckled slightly, Steve smiling the tiniest bit at the sound of her laugh.
"Do a trick." She joked, her lips turning up as her irritation left her from being around Steve. He looked at her with a look that said 'are you serious?'.
"A trick? Okay let's see." Steve threw the ice cream scooper in the air, catching it behind his back and earning a cheer from the girl. He gave her a winning smile, the girl laughing as he put the scoop on the ice cream sundae.
"Pretty sweet h-what's he doing here?" Christine turned her head at Steve's question, her eyes widening as Officer Callahan walked into the ice cream parlor, his eyes set on the girl who he was looking for.
"Phil? Everything okay?" Steve's jaw clenched when she called him by his first name, his lip curling up in disgust as he came to stand in front of her.
"Can I talk to you for a moment?" Christine nodded, the two of them walking away to the doorway of the Scoops Ahoy to talk. Steve watched them from the counter, his face scrunched up in disgust as he felt the cruel and unforgiving grip of jealousy grab him. It didn't sit right with him that he was so old and she liked him, the boy looking at him at wondering what he had that Steve didn't.
He watched as she shook her head in concern at whatever he was saying, his eyes dripping over her figure as he observed her body language. She was standing next to him like she was comfortable with him, something that once again jsut didn't sit right with Steve.
Christine suddenly laughed at something he said, her hand dropping onto his chest for a moment as he chuckled as well. Steve couldn't help but scowl in disarray, this was quite the little show they were putting on. He almost wanted to puke as he watched the two of them, laughing and flirting, Steve only able to see an old guy and Christine, the epitome of perfection. He shook his head, looking down at the register with glaring eyes and an upset stomach, trying to fight the incessant urge to look back up at the two. The next time he looked up she was patting his arm, the girl walking towards the register and catching his attention.
"What did Officer Mustache want?" Steve asked, his tone condescending and reeking with irritation and jealousy. Christine rolled her eyes, her lips parting to speak and catching his attention as they did so.
"Officer Mustache asked me if I knew where Hopper was. And then when I said no he asked me to lunch. This is me telling you that I'll be back later." Christine said, Steve's face dropping even more if possible. A date?
"A date?" He asked, rounding the counter with a shocked and stressed expression.
"Not a date. Lunch." She said, taking a step back from where he was approaching her. His mouth dropped open as he shook his head, running a hand through his hair and gesturing towards the Officer himself.
"You're going on a date with a guy who could be your dad?" His voice was a little loud, Officer Callahan not hearing it but Robin and Dustin turning their heads. Christines eyes widened, the girl grabbing this arm and pushing it down to his side.
"Shut the fuck up. He's 30. He's only 12 years older than me! You're being ridiculous."
"I'm not being ridiculous I'm worried about your safety. This guy is a borderline child predator." Steve said in a hushed tone, seeing the warning look in the girls face and taking it down a notch.
"That's a stretch. I've been eighteen for seven months. Plus I'm more mature than my age."
"Who the fuck told you that?" Steve asked out of pure curiosity, his glare burning her skin as he put a finger to his head, wondering who was crazy enough to make her think that was true. Christine grit her teeth, the girl giving him another warning look and then looking back at Callahan for a second, the girl holding up a finger to tell him she needed a minute.
"What the hell is your problem?!" She whisper yelled to him, the girl pushing him back a little bit so that he was out of the view of the police officer.
"My problem? My problem is that you're being stupid getting involved with this old guy who wants nothing from you but sex probably." His concern was warranted, but Christine took this as a direct hit, the girl chuckling humorlessly as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"That's rich coming from you Steve." She replied, her words burning as she said them.
"You and I both kno-"
"Erica is in. What are you guys arguing about?" Dustin cut the two of them off, Christine and Steve not dropping their mutual glares as he spoke.
"We're not arguing. I'm just going to lunch. I'll be back after and ready to get started." Christine finally looked away from the fuming Steve, a faux smile covering her lips as Dustin gave her a nod. Christine gave Steve one last hateful glance, walking off towards the entrance of Scoops Ahoy where Officer Callahan was waiting for the young girl.
"Who the hell is that? Is that the cop?" Dustin asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he watched after Christine. Steve had told Dustin that Christine had a crush on someone from work, and now he could finally put a face to if. He hadn't expected it to be someone so familiar.
"Yeah that's the cop. Dudes 30 years old taking an 18 year old out to lunch. How weird is that?"
"He has good hair. And the mustache is really going for him. Can you even grow a mustache?" Dustin asked, turning his head from the couple to Steve who's as giving him a ridiculous look.
"Yes I can grow a mustache." He said in a matter of fact tone, his arms crossing over his chest as he let out a huff.
"How cliche." Dustin said, catching Steve's attention again and making him take on a questioning look.
"What is?"
"An older guy comes up and sweeps your girl away because you waited too long. A financially stable, not wearing a sailor outfit, mustached man." Dustin said, looking at Steve and shaking his head in some kind of disappointment.
"How many times do I have to tell you that it's not like that?" Steve said, trying to ignore what he said about waiting to ling and Christine being swept away. Dustins eyebrows shot up, his mouth dropping open as he shook his head at Steve.
"If it's not like that then why are you so worried about her going to lunch." Dustins comment was true, it was very on the nose and Steve took a moment to think about it. If he had rejected her all those months ago and insisted on being friends, why was he so worried about who and what she was doing? Steve shook his head, the boy reaching behind him to grab the melting ice cream sundae for Erica. He pushed it towards Dustin, the boy grabbing it and shaking his head at Steve.
"Shut up man."
