fifty-four.

"So did you guys just talk or was there more to it?" Steve Harrington asked, the boy having asked so many questions about the lunch in the last few minutes that Christine was getting irritated.

"Can you shut up and stop asking about it? We have more important things going on than to talk about my love life." Christine said, shaking her head at Steve as they leaned over the edge of the ledge. Steve rolling his eyes, looking away for only a moment before turning his head back to her.

"So when you say love life what does that mean?"

"Seriously be quiet."

"Okay. Okay fine. I'm done." Steve sat there for a moment with his arms crossed, his face deep in thought before he leaned back over toward her ear, his head turning to look at her and his eyebrows furrowed as he couldn't help but speak again. "But does love life mea-"

"Steve!"

"Okay sorry. I'm sorry." He said, running a hand through his hair and finally dropping it. Robin pressed the button on the walkie talkie, lifting it to her lips and speaking into it.

"Erica, do you copy?"

"Mm-Hmm I copy. You nerds in position or what?" Erica said on the other end of the walkie talkie, Robin quick to answer.

"Yeah were in position."

"So was I right to call it a date?" Steve whispered to the girl, his eyes not leaving the  ground in front of him. Christine groaned, the girl backing away form him and crouching got the other side of Dustin. Steve held his arms out in question as she did this, confused as to what he was doing that would make her move.

"It's all quiet here so you've got the green light." Robin whispered into the talkie,  Christine avoiding Steve's curious eyes and thinking face. He seemed like he was trying to put together a puzzle or that he was acting like the smartest person ever, when really he was just annoying her.

"Green light, Roger that. Commence Operation Child Endangerment." Erica said through the walkie talkie, Christine chuckling a little as Robin put on  an uneasy voice.

"Can we maybe not call it that?" Steve nodded in agreement, not quite liking the way she was describing the situation.

"See you on the other side. Nerds." When she made that remark Christine smiled to herself again, thinking about how much she really was Lucas' sister. A thought occurred to her, the girl wondering for just a moment about what was going on with Billy and the girls and Hopper who was MIA now. She had been so caught up with the Russians thats he forgot that there were other things going on.

There were a few minutes of tense silence before Erica finally reconnected with them, all of them leaning closer to the walkie talkie to hear her.

"Alright nerds. I'm there." Christine sighed in relief as she said it, her eyebrows raising in surprise at how well this plan was going.

"Do you—do you see anything?"

"Yeah I see those boring boxes you're so excited about." Erica said through the radio, Christine feeling like something was going right.

"Any guards?"

"Negative."

"Booby traps?" Christine almost laughed at Robins  comment, Erica quick to shoot back.

"If I could see them they'd be pretty shit traps, wouldn't they?"

"Thank you for that." The sarcasm wasn't appreciated by the other three, Christine thinking that Erica was a hoot and hilarious.

"I'm in."

"Oh, God." Steve sighed out, putting his head in his hands for a moment as he realized they truly were doing some child endangerment. Christines eyes widened as she door flew open, Erica walking out of it looking like an absolutely badass.

"Free ice cream for life." Erica said, all of them looking at her in  absolute disbelief. Christine clapped Dustin on the shoulder,  smiling as she then used his shoulder to push herself up.  She was the first to make it down, the girl giving Erica a fist bump and a proud look. She headed into the room, her fingers brushing the stacks of boxes.

"Eh don't touch those! You don't know what's in there." Steve said quickly, slapping the girls hand down from one of the boxes. She rolled her eyes, rounding the table so that he was my near her as everyone else in the room proceeded to touch the boxes. "Very funny guys. Really. Whatever have your fingers blasted off I don't care."

Steve still had a worried look on his face as Christine picked one of the boxes up, dropping it onto the  empty table and looking at him.

"What?"

"Open it." She said, gesturing to the box. Steve's mouth dropped open, the man wondering if she had heard anything he had said or if she was just choosing to ignore it.

"Did you not just hear what I said?"

"Yeah I heard what you said. You said we shouldn't touch it. Not that you shouldn't touch it. So open it." Christine said, crossing her arms over her chest and giving him a challenging look.  He still had that look of disbelief on his face and also dread, the other three nodding along to what she said.  Dustin even went as far as to pull a knife from his pocket, handing it to Steve so that he could cut open the tape. He sighed, grabbing the knife from his hand and  shaking this head. He sliced the tape, warily pulling the box open  and looking into it. Inside the box was another box and a handle, all of them leaning over as far as they could to look inside. Christine dropped her hand onto a Steve's shoulder, the girl turning her head to speak in his ear.

"Pull the handle Steve." He looked up at her for a second, wondering why she wanted to kill him so bad before looking up at Dustin and then gripping the handle. He twisted it, the air hissing as whatever it was prepared to be taken out.  He pulled the lid off, removing it from the box and all of them looking inside. Inside there were four more handles, Christines curiosity  making her want to reach in and grab it herself.

"That's definitely not Chinese food." Steve said, everyone agreeing silently with him. He sat the lid down, reaching into the box and then looking up at the four of them.

"Hey, maybe you guys should uh,  stand back." Robin and Erica stepped back, Dustin and Christine shaking their heads in refusal.

"No." Dustin protested, shaking his head.

"Just...just step back okay?"  Steve said, pushing him back as he still refused.

"It is what it is."  Christine said, shrugging her shoulders and standing her ground. Steve gave her a warning look and then spoke again, hoping they'd both listen.

"Step back. Seriously."

"No! No! If you die, I die." Dustin said, Steve looking at him with furrowed eyebrows.  Christine nodded along, figuring that was the deal as long as it involved taking both of them.  He looked between the two and then shook his head , shrugging and letting go of Dustin.

"Okay."  He turned the handle, the air hissing again as he pulled whatever it was out of its container. All of their eyes widened as he held it up, a green  gooey liquid inhabiting the cylinder and making them all stare.

"What the hell?" Steve said, vocalizing what they were all thinking.

"What is that?" Robin asked.  It was only about a second layer until the entire room shook, everyone's eyes widening in fear as they looked around to try and find out where that was coming from.

"Was that just me or did the entire room move?" Dustin asked, Erica being the one to answer.

"Booby traps." She whispered, fear coursing through all of them as the room shook again.  Christine was shaking her head, the girl already trying to make her way towards the door.

"You know what?  Let's just grab that and go!" Robin said, grabbing the green vial from Steve's hand. Christine rushed up to Dustin who began to press buttons, none of them working and making her heart pound ridiculously fast.

"Which one do I press Erica?" Dustin asked, his tone frantic and panicky as he turned his head to look at her for an answer.

"Just press the damn button, nerd." Erica said, her nonchalant starting to wear off as the buttons didn't work.

"Which one? I'm pressing the damn button okay?!" Dustin called back, Christine confirming it.

"He's pressing the button!"

"Press open door!" Erica yelled, Steve coming over to look at it.

"I'm pressing open door!"

"Oh my God!" Christine said in absolute realization and terror. They were not getting out.

"Let me see that!" Steve pushed past Dustin, starting to press random buttons as Christine ran a hand over her face as she looked around wild eyed.

"Just open the— press the other button!"

"Get out of the way so she can press the right button-" Robin yelled, everyone's screams overlapping each other. Christine as having a full blown panic attack, feeling as if the walls were closing in on the because they couldn't get out .

"Would you stop?"

"I'm trying." Dustin threw a glance over at Christine, the boy pressing more frantically as she began to yell.

"Oh my god we're gonna die. I'm-Im claustrophobic! Open the damn door!" She started to beat on the door, blinded by fear as she flung her fists into the wall.

"Would you let me just do it? Would you stop?!"

"Help! Oh no. I'm about to flip my shit guys!" Christine said, her fingers flying to her hair as she started to hyperventilate.

"Just open the door!" A loud whirring came from the side, a wall coming down and slamming into the flood. Christines eyes widened in absolute panic as she lifted her fists from the door,  her mouth dropping open in fear. The room dropped, Christine and Robin immediately screaming as they started to plummet to the ground.

"Oh shit." Steve said, watching as they fell. He broke into a yell, all five of them screaming in fear and terror as they plummeted to the ground.

"Shit! Shit!" Dustin screamed as he scrambled for the buttons, the boy frantically touching each and every one.

"We're going down! We're going down!" Steve yelled to them, everyone yelling over each other.

"Yeah no shit Harrington!" Robin yelled, Christine putting her hand IVER her mouth as she gripped the table.

"I'm gonna barf!"

"Why don't these buttons work?!" Dustin screamed at the top of his lungs, all of them silently praying something would stop the elevator.

"Press the button!" Erica screamed, Dustin looking at her with wide and crazy eyes.

"What do you think I'm doing?!"

"Come on press something! Just press the button!" Steve yelled, the boy making a move to get to Christine who was absolutely flipping her shit.

"Steve!"  Just as Christine yelled out for him they stopped,  the girl falling to the floor like a rag doll while a box fell on Steve and Robin joined her on the floor.

"My groin. It fell on my groin. Dustin! Get this off me!" Steve groaned, Dustin pulling the box off and groaning. "I can't move." Steve said breathlessly as he tried to calm down.

"Is everyone okay?"

"Yeah I'm great now that I know Russians can't design elevators!" Steve yelled, standing up from his spot and glancing at Christine. He hurried over to where she was on the floor, reaching down and helping her up. "Chris are you okay?" He said in an overly worried tone, the boy checking over her for injuries before looking her in the eyes and waiting for an answer.

"Yeah I'm fine."
