//Chapter Six//

Celestia tossed and turned in her sleep, her mind filled with the ever-growing darkness. She could see faceless people reach out to her and grab her, pulling her down in the black water, trying to drown her. She cried, she gasped, she reached out. But nothing came to her to save her from her nightmares. She bolted upright and screamed out; "Matthew!" She stared into the darkness, panting heavily. She could feel the sweat on her face and back, "God… These nightmares are getting worse…" she whispered as she slowly got out of her bed.

She saw some clothes on the chair and grabbed them, seeing a note on it saying: COME TO THE GREENHOUSE.

No signature to indicate whom it was from. Though from the clothes she saw, a white shirt and trousers, it had something to do with physical work. She didn’t really want to do whatever that was planned for her, and it was odd to do physical work in a greenhouse… wasn’t it just plants in there? She shrugged and headed to the bathroom to clean up. She stayed in the bathtub for a bit, just to soak and relive the stress that had built up. She sighed as she stared up at the ceiling and contemplated on her life, if that’s what you'd call it if you were thinking about your life.

She then got up after 10 minutes and dried herself of and got dressed in the clothing, pulling on some small-heeled boots. She then left her room to head to the greenhouse. She had to ask a few people to where the greenhouse was, she knew it was outside but outside was huge. She found the door to the Playground for the Occupants and took her time walking through. It had been a month since she came here, so there were always new Occupants here, swinging, flying, running, and even jumping around. And a few old ones here as well.

She smiled at the young kids running in front of her, laughing and giggling. Their wolf like tails wagging crazy and their ears perked up and listening. They dashed of into the bushes and disappeared. The main tree in the middle reached about 180 feet into the air, the branches reaching out about 55 feet out and vines hanging of the tree. She could see hammocks swinging high up in the branches, Occupants occupying them. Wings… Don’t I have them? She thought, reaching around she touched her back, felt nothing. I swear I had them… Or heard that I had them. Maybe I'm not old enough and they haven't grown? She pursed her lips together. Matthew had once said that she will get a mark of outstretched wings just between her shoulder blades, indicating that it was a special mark that can allow her to keep her wings hidden. But it would only come once she reached a certain level of strength.

She willed for her wings to come, and looked like she was constipated and felt stupid since she remembered that the mark wasn’t there yet. She smiled lightly at how she must've looked stupid, "Oh well, it'll come." She said and found the large greenhouse at the end of the Playground. It was a large glass dome; it towered over the Lab she was in. And the lab was about 4 stories high. She pushed the glass doors open and was greeted with the warm humid air. She was amazed at how beautiful it looked, pots hanged from the ceiling and had these bright pink flowers that grew over the edge. The pollen was bright blue and there were strange looking butterflies, their large wings were the size of her hand at least, flying around. One landed on her hair, it was all black with red swirling lines on its wings. She smiled at it and it stayed put.  She wandered around, gazing at the small and huge flowers that grew here. She stopped at one of them, it was all green and the leaf blade was divided into two regions: a flat, heart-shaped with red colouring within and the edges of the lobes were fringed by stiff hair-like protrusions. It had a nice white flower that grew in the middle of the 4 strange plants. She watched a butterfly flutter around the plant, then landed on the red part of the plant and it closed around it instantly.

She gasped and jumped back, watching as the butterfly struggle within the plants closed leaves. "It’s a Venus fly trap," a voice came from the side. She turned and saw a woman come out from behind a bush. She had fair hair and butterflies, blue ones, fluttered around her constantly. She had silvery grey eyes that seemed to shimmer at times. Her skin was dark, like she was out in the sun for a very long time. She wore a floral gown, the sleeves starting at half way of her forearm, and covered her hands. Though Celestia could see she was barefoot, her feet made out of… roots? She blinked at the beautiful woman; the image before her peeled away and she could see her actual form. Her skin was cracked and had holes in them, her hair stuck out like branches, and leaves grew of the ends. Her fingers grew long, like the branches on her head. Though her eyes and dress stayed the same. Celestia thought she looked like a tree, literally. The woman smiled, but didn’t show any teeth, "You look shocked, young girl." Her voice smooth and sweet like a lemon drop. "I-I… I’m sorry. Its just I… um…" she looked down, blushing shyly. The woman laughed, "Its fine. I am used to that, many people can peel away the illusion and see my true self. I am Blodwyn, a forest Fairy,” she said walking over to Celestia, who was now looking at the Venus flytrap.

"Celestia." She said, now looking up at the woman, Blodwyn. She was now back to how she saw her, and she calmed down a little, but still felt a little nervous. "I know, that is why I called you here." She said, "I understand that you are having troubles here." Celestia got all alert and cautious, "Yes… I am…" she said slowly, looking at Blodwyn closely. "Don’t be afraid, I am here to help you." Blodwyn stated, "How can I trust you?" Celestia said, her fingers coiled around the hem of her white shirt. "Come, I will explain to you what I can do. And I didn’t call you for a chat, I want you to help me with my garden." She turned and headed to the back, Celestia sighed and followed after her. Blodwyn pushed open a door and went outside, Celestia gasped a bit. Out here was much better than the closed of playground. She could feel the sun on her cold skin, heating her up slowly. The wind was fresh and warm, she took a deep breath of the air and smiled, "Oh wow… Its so much better than the air within the building." She said, "This is natural air. No man-made kind. This is the good stuff. I’m quite sad that you don’t get to feel this," Blodwyn had her head tilted back a little, her eyes closed and facing the sun, her skin glowed lightly. "I think they don’t trust me. Since this area is not closed of in the air, I do have wings but I don’t know how to call them out." Celestia admitted, squinting a little gazing out the large field before her. There were rows of green leaves sticking out the ground, big and small.

"Welcome to the garden, I grow the food that you munchkins eat." Blodwyn said, laughing lightly, "You do this all by yourself?" Celestia asked as she came and stood next to the fairy, "Yes, I do. I get some help but it’s very rarely that I do. Ja'ob isn’t so… Kind at times. Something is bothering him, I can see something evil behind those eyes…" Blodwyn shivered a little, and then clasped her hands before her. "Now, no more dilly dallying, time to get working and talk to you about how I can help you!" Blodwyn said. She explained to Celestia how to cut or pull the plants out and to check if they are ripe or not. It was hard work, and she was lucky to have thought of wearing the clothes she was given. She was all dirty and sweaty after one hour of spending in the fields. Though Blodwyn made her work hard, and she was impressed of how much of the cabbages, carrots and other vegetables she had picked out 5 hours later.

Finally, Blodwyn called Celestia over to the small makeshift hut where she was serving a cold drink that was the colour of red. “Well done. I’m quite surprised you can work for that long straight. No one would be able to without a break for drinks.” Blodwyn said, grinning at Celestia. “Ah, I don’t feel tired. I can keep going.” She said, but Blodwyn shook her head, “I think that’s enough for now. And I thank you for the help. I’m very grateful, now I must return my bargain to you.” Blodwyn said, pouring more into Celestia’s cup. Celestia held her cup in her lap, looking up at Blodwyn, “I have heard, I’m not saying names, that you are having troubles with your mentor.” Blodwyn said, “Is that true?” she asked. Celestia was quiet for a bit then nodded, “Yes, I am.” She replied eventually, Blodwyn sat up a bit straighter, “Well, I can help you with that. I am, or well, used to be a mentor here before I was stripped of my position. I still have the knowledge and books about the subjects you do during class.” She said, stopping for a bit to let the information sink in, “I can help you get stronger, fly up the ranks in your classes. I was awarded for best teacher a while back, I helped mentally ill people and was a counsellor when new Occupants came in and were unsure what to do here. I had a one of thing with teaching basic fighting and how to defend yourself,” Blodwyn said, sitting back and leaning against the wooden pillar.

Celestia stared into the metal cup filled with silvery water, feeling the coolness against her palms. Blodwyn could see the lines on her forehead crease down in thought, “You can trust me.” Blodwyn said, reaching over and laying a hand on her arm gently, “I don’t lie.” She added softly. Celestia looked up, “But I thought faeries lie…” she whispered softly, “That’s what these people want you to think. It’s not true. They don’t have the correct books about us downworlders.” Blodwyn said, sighing in annoyance. “Oh.” She felt ashamed that she believed the lie she was told so easily. She played with her thumbs a bit, “I’m sorry. Its hard now to tell what’s the truth is now.” Celestia said, Blodwyn placed a finger under her chin and tilted her head up, “My darling, its fine. But do not believe anything those people say. Trust me. I promise I wont disappoint you.” She smiled softly at the red head, pouring more water in her cup and sat back.

“Well, we shall start later. Now, we get back to work!” Blodwyn said and drank the rest of the water before getting up and going back to the fields, followed by Celestia and they continued to work for the rest of the afternoon.

Celestia waved goodbye to Blodwyn. They had spent the rest of the evening talking about the different kinds of downworlders, demons and angels. She couldn’t really remember most of them but remembered that Trinity, her mother, was good friends with Michael, the archangel who slew Lucifer.

She thought it was funny, for some reason. How did Michael not see that Trinity was going to fall? It was strange… Maybe he trusted her too much? Was it all just so unexpected? She didn’t know. But she knew she will get the answers soon enough once her parents came. She headed through the large glass greenhouse with the exotic plants.

It was even more beautiful. It felt magical as little yellow lights floated around her, “Fireflies…” she muttered as she gazed around in amazement. There were butterflies as well, their wings glowing blue, green, gold and yellow. It was truly amazing. Blodwyn had said that there is a kingdom where special people go. She had a flash of the nightmare she had a few days back, and shivered. She remembered the white castle with tall spirals floating on an island; she could see the small resident houses that surrounded the high walls.

She could remember the meadow she stood in, the flowers that surrounded her looked pretty much like the ones in the glass greenhouse. The huge trees that towered over her, just like the one in the Playground. She remembered how clear the sky was, how bright the blue was. Then Matthews face flashed across her eyes and there he was, standing in front of her. He was staring at her, there was a dark look in his eyes, but he looked amused. “Celestia.” He said, his voice was surprised, “I didn’t know you were in here. I thought you would have left ages ago, did Blodwyn make you work all day?” he asked. She hesitated a little, she wanted to throw herself at him and hug him. Feel his protective arms around her and hearing his words of love.

But this wasn’t the Matthew she knew. She could feel the evil coming of him, she glanced down at his hands, she could see his veins the colour of black. He was even paler now, almost sickly. His blue eyes had gotten darker, darker than the oceans she saw in books. Close to almost just blackness.

“Yes, and I enjoyed it. I liked the sun on my skin. I am going again tomorrow.” She answered his question finally, with a formality to her tone.

He nodded slowly, “I see. Glad you enjoyed it.” She heard the slight familiarity of his voice, but it was gone instantly and her heart dropped instantly. “Well I must go find Blodwyn. Is she outside?” he asked, “Yes. In her little shack under the trees.” Celestia said. He simply nodded and walked outside to the fields. Celestia watched his back until he disappeared behind the glass doors. She turned away and walked out of the glass greenhouse and headed to her room to have a good wash down from all the dirt and sweat on her body.

She pulled on some tights and a singlet after she had a good long shower. She dried her hair with the hair dryer and combed it out. It fell around her in curls and waves; she turned around as she stared at her back in the mirror. Just between her shoulder blades she could see the folded wings, slightly open. She smiled a little and a thought had passed, what did Matthew wanted with Blodwyn? She felt the urge to go and listen but knew it would be to late and would have missed out on majority of the information. She went to her bed and sat down, pulling out the notebook she had and was writing in everyday about and occasionally draw.

She wrote down about the events today:

 Dear… Diary?

Today I worked in the fields with a faery named Blodwyn. I enjoyed it, 4 hours straight I had worked. Blodwyn was surprised of how good and fast I was. She also told me about the different kinds of downworlders. Werewolves, vampires, warlocks. She told me that they have demon and human blood in them, and that’s how they are created. She told me that I was a special kind of breed, a very rare and dangerous kind of race. She called it ‘Neprirodno’, meaning ‘unnatural’. So I was from a race called Unnatural? How strange. She laughed and said the official name is Neprirodno. It was just the meaning of the word, a Croatian word. I understood that, but it was still funny to hear that. It was interesting; she explained it well, much better than the classes I attend to. I cannot wait til tomorrow…

She ended the diary there, drawing a little faery. She closed her book and slipped it in her bedside table under the bottom part of the drawer. She placed the loose pieces of paper and whatnot back on top so it didn’t seem like the bottom part can come of.

She laid back in bed, pulling the sheets up close and fell asleep. She didn’t dream of anything, her mind was to tired to even think anymore.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blodwyn was cleaning the vegetables in a large bucket of water. It was like a medium sized tub, a baby could fit in it. She hummed a gentle song as she scrubbed the dirt of the vegetables. As she turned, she almost screamed when Matthew appeared behind her. He gave her a sweet smile, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” He said, his voice low and calm. She noted that his eyes were darker than usual.

“Oh, its fine darling. I just didn’t hear you come in.” She said, smiling slightly up at him. He had a slight smirk that tainted his pale face. She could see the black veins along his neck, visible. Demon blood is coursing through him, she thought in horror. “What is it that you want?” she asked him, she didn’t like demons. She had her reasons and tend to keep to herself about her past. “I wanted to just see how you were going. I saw Celestia leave, she said she enjoyed it.” He said, Blodwyn nodded, she wanted to look away from his dead cold look, but she couldn’t. She was scared he might stab her or rip her to shreds.

So she held the knife behind her back tightly, waiting for his strike. “Oh, that’s good. She told me she enjoyed it. Don’t see why you had to tell me that.” She said, in the most calming voice she could muster out. “Ah, well, I didn’t just come to talk to you about that. Ja’ob had insisted me to come speak to you about the books based on downworlders.” Matthew said, he started to walk around her small hut, looking at the different vials filled with different coloured water. It made her nervous when he was snooping around. She stood up straighter and turned her body as he walked around, making sure the knife wasn’t seen in her hand.

“Why? What use does he have with these books? Doesn’t he have his own?” She asked, she couldn’t understand where this possessed man was going; “Ja’ob says that it is not necessary for you to have them anymore. He can give you more updated versions which are true.” He said, emphasizing the word ‘true’ as if it was a slap across the face. It should have made her feel stupid, and it did. He wants to rid them because he is afraid that the truth of downworlders will spread throughout the Lab, she thought in horror.

“I think I’m fine, I was given those books from my family line. I don’t want to lose them.” Blodwyn said, trying to keep the anger away from her voice. Matthew smiled, it was a wicked smile, “I knew you would say that, faery. I do not wish to take them by force, so I’m asking nicely…” His voice dropped to a low dangerous tone. “I am older than you, demon. I can easily-” but she was cut of when Matthew was in front of her, holding the knife that she had in her hand. She was pressed against the wall, the knife pressed to her neck, “Don’t threaten me, bitch. I am older. I am strong. You pathetic rejects don’t understand us demons, you may think we are stupid and attack blindingly, but we do have a reason to attack. We are cunning. We can be deceiving. Don’t underestimate us.” He hissed against her ear.

She was frozen in fear; her heart was beating hard and fast as she felt something warm trickle down her neck. When she looked up, she just saw pits of blackness. His teeth sharp and pointed like a shark. He stepped back, and threw the knife; it burrowed itself in the wood near her family picture above the mantle of the fireplace.

“I will be back, Blodwyn. And if you do resist again, and threaten me with a pesky knife, you will be sorry.” He said as he left the hut, the door slamming. The picture of her family fell and the glass shattered, it brought her back from her shock. She was holding her breath the whole time and her hand shot to her neck. She drew her hand back as she saw the silver blood on her fingers, sweet yet bitter. She fell to her knees and began to cry, she never saw so much… hatred in those eyes. The darkness that was circulating his soul, she was scared that Matthew might lose his humanity very soon. And it broke her heart from the thought of Celestia, losing him would crush her pure innocent heart.

Blodwyn wiped her eyes and stood, feeling this sudden determination fill her. She had to save him, no matter if it killed her or not. She was doing this for Celestia. She went to the books she had on downworlders and began to read. She was going to memorize every word, even if it meant that she had to pull out her own power that she kept down for so long to easily remember the immense information in the old books. So she read for the rest of the night, the words sticking into her memory for good.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, poor Matthew :( But dont worry! I have something that can *hopefully* save him before his soul is possessed by the demon! See you next chapter!
