Chapter 49

Day: Saturday.

A lot of different POV's are gonna come by this chapter, so before you read this already my apologies for a chaotic chapter.

( Dawn's POV )

I kept blinking to get the tears out of my eyes. I hadn't slept at all last night. The canteen was full of people, but there were still clearly people missing. Red, who was still in the hospital, healing. Barry, the first one to die and his seat to be empty. And Paul... More tears formed itself and rolled over my cheek. It felt like I had been torn apart. A knife which had made its way through my heart, but I somehow survived anyway. I didn't want to survive anymore.

"Silence!"officer Jenny yelled through the microphone. The few people that actually talked shut their mouths immediately. "Thank you." High heels were to be heard in the dead silent canteen. It felt more like a cemetery at the moment. A woman appeared. Blond hair and green eyes.

"Students,"she began. "These past few weeks have been a disaster. For you, for the police, for the government and for this school. Your principal failed at keeping you safe. And that's why I'm here. To replace a failure like that. My name is Lusamine, and I am the future." People clapped, even I did. Misty, May and Leaf were too stubborn to clap. They hadn't had any idea of what the old principal had done wrong. I knew. I had lost a lot, because that person couldn't keep anyone of us safe. Lusamine could be different.

We stood up, walking up the stairs to our new rooms. Iris walked to her room and slammed the door shut. I went to mine and did the exact same thing. I crawled up on my bed, hiding under the blankets. I couldn't help myself any longer and started crying out loud. Last time, I had just been in shock for the entire week. Now, I had no one left. I cried louder and louder, starting to get a headache because of it, but ignoring that.

( May's POV )

I heard Dawn crying, but decided to leave her alone. I doubted she wanted company at the time anyway. I closed my eyes and let a tear roll down my cheek. Just when everything seemed to get alright. Just when we thought we weren't gonna get any losses soon. We never said it out loud, but we truly had felt like Paul would wake up.

"Are you alright?"someone asked me. I looked behind me. Serena stood before her door, almost opening it. I sighed in response. "Stupid question, of course you're not alright. One of your friends has just been declared dead."

"Yeah, I have been better."I confirmed.

"I didn't really know Paul, to be honest."Serena said, looking at her door as if she was talking to that instead of me. "I even used to be scared of him. But I could see how much Dawn cared about him, and he cared about her back. Have you ever seen two people have such strong feelings for each other?" I looked at the ground. I had doubted Paul, always wondered if he really was good for Dawn. I never took the time to really get to know him, or see how much he actually loved Dawn. And Serena, who had been in the hospital for most of the time, she had actually seen Paul and Dawn as a couple. I never truly accepted Dawn's choices.

"Yeah, they must've had a crazy strong bond."I said, nodding slowly. Serena smiled weakly. As someone who claimed to be Dawn's best friend, I knew very little about her. I only looked at the sides of Dawn I could easily accept. But the part of her that loved Paul, or Barry, I had never truly talked with that part of her.

"Anyway, good luck with processing your loss."Serena said with a sad face as she finally opened the door and disappeared. I turned around and walked to Dawn's door, knocking on it.

"Dawn, it's me."I said when there was no response. "Can I come in?"

( Drew's POV )

I rested my head on the wall with closed eyes. All those times that Ash, Gary, Paul and I had talked and fooled around, I had taken those times for granted. I never thought they would be over this soon. I thought he would wake up and everything would go back to the way it was before. I should've realized this was still life. Life was unfair, cruel and uncontrollable. There might be happy times, but there were always bad things in life that would overgrow the happy ones. Some might call it balance, but I just thought of it as pure cruelty.

Ash came sitting on the ground beside me. I noticed how his eyes were red from the tears. I had cried too. The tears had finally stopped now, but my eyes still stung. On my lap lay Roselia, cuddling me in its sleep. Even Roselia had cried.

Neither of us said anything, and we both decided on just sitting here and doing nothing. Like always, I did nothing. But what could I do? All I had learned was performing. I couldn't fight, I didn't have any emotional strength. My advice only sucked. I couldn't even help Roselia with anything. I might be a top coordinator, but I didn't have the strength to even know how to handle this. Did Ash know how to handle this? Probably. He was Ash. Gary had disappeared, and none of us bothered to look for him. Gary was probably doing something. Didn't matter what, at least he was doing something.

I had thought it was finally over, but Sky still left something behind. Paul's death just being a note saying, "Even if I'm in prison, none of you will be able to live a happy life."

And she was right. She had been so damn right. But who to blame? Sky, considering she had activated the bomb? Or Misty, since she was the reason Sky had murdered in the first place? Was Sky the bad guy, or was Misty? Or what if we were the bad guys? What if Sky hadn't lied and what Misty had done was unforgivable? Whatever was the truth, life would reveal it. Just like life let people survive and people die. The balance of life. That was probably the biggest lie. There was no balance in the good and bad things. The bad ones would always weigh more.

I looked at Ash again. He seemed sad, and overall tired. I looked up at the ceiling. It all suddenly seemed so pointless. Everything we did these past few weeks... so pointless. I let another hand go through my hair. Ash sighed and stood up, walking outside, while I kept sitting. What was it what Sky had mouthed during her trial? Oh, right. Goodbye.

( Kenny's POV )

I walked through the halls, unwillingly tearing up. I walked as quickly as I could. I'd run if I was allowed to. I opened the door, failing at holding it in any longer and ran to Dawn's room. I opened the door a bit too quick. She sat there on her bed, with May, crying. I felt my own tears slowly rolling over my cheek. I walked up to her, and embraced her. I felt how she hugged back, and heard her sobbing. It sounded so sad. I put more strength in the hug and tried not to show too much of my sadness.

"Kenny,"Dawn said softly. I stroke her hair, doing my best at comforting her. "P-Paul..." I gently shushed her, not letting go of her yet. No, I had been wrong all this time. I had been selfish all this time. I didn't want to be with her in a romantic relationship, I just wanted her to stay my best friend. Because that was what we were, best friends.

"I heard, Dawn."I said, shocked by my own high pitched voice. Tears still rolling over my cheeks. Why was I crying? I didn't even like Paul. He had taken away everything. From the moment he appeared in my life all he had brought Dawn, Barry and me was trouble. But... he had made her smile. I loosened my grip on Dawn, and looked her in the eyes, not bothering with smiling for her. "I'm sorry."I admitted, still crying. Her eyes were red and her cheeks were wet from the tears that were still coming out.

"Kenny,"she repeated. "I can't!" Her crying became louder. "I can't! I can't lose him! Why?! Why me?!" She let the tears stream down, not bothering with it like she used to.

"I know."I just replied.

( Ursula's POV )

"Then you can go home."the woman said. I smiled brightly.

"Thank you very much!"I said back. I walked down the stairs to the reception. It felt great, somehow. What did it matter that not even Brianna had bothered to show up? I was free of all this. They had even put that murderer behind bars. "Hello, ma'am."I started, looking at the receptionist. The woman smiled kindly.

"Can I help you, sweetie?"she asked. I nodded.

"I want to visit a friend of mine."

"What's his or her name?"the woman asked, ready to type the name.

"Shinji, Paul."I replied, kind of nervous. Maybe Dawn was there, and I'd get scolded for visiting my previous crush. And I had been a bit obsessive about him too. If he had waken up he might not appreciate the visit very much. But I wanted to see how he was doing. The woman's smile faded. "Is something wrong?"

"I'm sorry,"she replied. I gave a confused look. "But Paul Shinji is gone."

"G-gone?"I asked, slowly letting this new information sink into me. Fear crept into me. "Gone, as in, dead?" The woman nodded sadly. My eyes widened, and I took a step back out of fear. "N-no."I whispered. I took another step back, tears coming up. This was a mistake. The woman had just misspelled Paul's name. This had to be a mistake! Paul couldn't die. He was so strong and brave. I felt a hand on my shoulder and quickly turned around, taking another step back. A girl looked worriedly at me. I knew her, but I still walked away from her. I started running away. Away from everyone. I started feeling dizzy, and the fear was consuming me. Faster, and faster, and faster.

I fell on my knees, everything was revolving around me. I held tightly onto my head, trying to stop the dizziness. But it was no use. I heard some voices, but I closed my eyes to stop the world from revolving, as I gradually lost consciousness.

( Gary's POV )

I punched the punching bag. Again, and again, and again. My strength coming from pure anger and frustration. Again. Paul being the only thing on my mind. Dead. Hadn't there been enough dead people already? This wasn't what should've happened. Paul hadn't even done anything wrong. Paul didn't deserve to die. He was supposed to be the strongest of us all.

I focused on the punches Red had taught me. Red was also in the hospital, busy healing from the injuries Derek had given him. A criminal that still hadn't been found by the police. Red could've died too, if officer Jenny hadn't interfered.

Again. I punched again. I smelled terribly, my hands hurt and my shirt was wet from my sweat. But I couldn't stop. Not with everything on my mind. I punched again.

"The moment I think of him, I just need to see him. And then I realize I can't. Because he..." Damn right, Dawn. Damn right. The first thing I wanted to do when she told us was to see him, but he wasn't here. And seeing him on pictures or in my mind only made me cry. I let my hands through my hair crying loudly, it wasn't like anyone would see me anyway.

"Gary, there you are!"Leaf yelled. Okay, maybe someone would see me. "Gary, it's alright." I just sat down, my elbows leaning on my legs and my head hidden in my hands. Leaf walked to me.

"Don't touch me!"I yelled, still crying. Leaf did a step back, looking a bit hurt. "Sorry, I..." Leaf kept her distance, but didn't look like she was going to give up.

"Gary, I know that it might be hard, but you can't shut us out."Leaf said slowly. "We want to help you, Gary."

"I don't need your help."I muttered.

"We haven't talked once after I got kidnapped. Is there something that happened while I was gone?"Leaf asked, immediately bringing the conversation to her own problems. I just looked at the ground as I kept crying. Yes, stuff had happened. "Gary, Paul wouldn't have wanted you to isolate yourself from us."

"Paul is dead!"I yelled, finally looking at Leaf. She looked beautiful, as always. But tears formed themselves in my eyes again, and my sight became blurry. "He can't want anything anymore."

"I know, but Gary, we can."Leaf admitted. "And you're not the only one who needs comfort!"

"This isn't about you."I muttered. Leaf seemed to get a bit angry.

"I know that very well!"she shouted back at me. "But I won't let you isolate yourself from Ash and Drew, and from me. You're not the only one going through this, so don't act like I have to pity you. Dawn is doing much worse. Pull yourself together, Gary."

"Says the one who didn't even know Paul." Leaf looked at the ground.

"Just because you don't always see who I talk to, doesn't mean I don't know them."Leaf snapped. I turned my back to her, looking at the wall. She sighed. "Since when can you fight?"

"I've had lessons."I murmured.

"I see."Leaf replied blankly. "Well, good luck with punching that bag. If you change your mind, you know where I am." I turned around to see Leaf walk away.

"Leaf, wait."I said, amd she turned around, looking down at me. I walked up to her and hugged her tightly. She seemed a bit surprised, but returned the hug. I didn't want to let go, I just wanted to keep holding onto her. We kept standing there, her being the one to comfort me. Not a kiss that wouldn't have any meaning, this hug had a lot more meaning than any of our kisses. "Don't go."I whispered to her.

"I won't."she assured me.

( Misty's POV )

"When I first came to this school the first person I met was Paul. We were placed in the same dorm and we both had a dream which we would work towards. Paul was ambitious and he immediately started working. I said that he was trying too hard, and that he should also have time to do something for himself, and he replied with a blunt, "With an attitude like that, you won't achieve anything in life." So he ignored my advice. Years later, I walked up to him, he was still a bit in shock from something I didn't know anything about. And he said, "I listened to you."" Silence. "But I already knew that he had listened. Paul didn't say a lot, he didn't express himself, but he truly listened. But I never listened to him." Drew held out some CDs. "He asked me to give these back. I never did."

I saw several people cry. Drew lay the CDs down on the grave. Dawn stumbled forward, giving a flower to Paul. A purple flower. I looked at Ash, who looked at the grave, crying. Gary was holding Leaf's hand, doing his best not to cry. I looked at the text written on the grave. My eyes rested on Drew again. He wiped away the tears.

"Rest in peace, Paul."he murmured.

________________________________________________________________________THE END

Well, there will be some sort of other chapter, which includes a small sneak peek for Fighting Arrows, and I will also answer any questions you have.

And for if you want to know, yes, there will be a second False Hope. But first Fighting Arrows, and I really hope some of you will read that too! 'Cause I'm kinda psyched to start writing it. And I hope some of you are too! ^^

About the late update, I'm extremely sorry. I've been busy with tests and stuff, and have been focusing on finishing all the tags I still had to do (I'm almost done). Now that I have more time, I will start writing Fighting Arrows, and find a good sneak peak for the next chapter. I hope to publish Fighting Arrows as quickly as possible.

As for next chapter, you'll see what's that gonna be about. I hope you liked False Hope!
