Chapter 25
OMA! I'm already at chapter 25. Wow... That's... That's just... Wow. Thank you so much for reading!😘 Okay, I'll shut up now!
( Misty's POV )
I woke up, panting and sweaty. Frankly, this was not the first time it had happened. Me dreaming about Fred became normal, but it still hurt and prevented me from sleeping. I switched the light on. My nightmares became even worse now the truth had been revealed. The voice in my mind was right after all. There's no secret that wouldn't come out eventually. Not a single one. But telling was still hard. Hearing that there were some people that wanted me dead for what I did, was just too much. I felt more and more responsible for every death in this town, but leaving wouldn't be an option either. If I left I would just get others in danger. And here we were close to revealing the killer. And being afraid wasn't a bad thing. The door opened.
"Misty..."May said sleepy. "Turn off the light."
"Sorry, I can't sleep."I said walking to the light.
"Can you ever?"May said with a small smile. I had brought this all to her. If there was anything I could do for her, I would. Yesterday she had lost two of her friends. Though Brendan wasn't dead, he certainly was... lost. I switched the light off. I couldn't see May's face, but I could hear it when she said, "Thank you." She shouldn't be thanking me for anything.
"No problem."I said. It felt like there was a sudden weight on me. Like I was carrying a giant rock. But I wasn't carrying a rock, I carried something a lot heavier. I carried my mistakes. All of them. I couldn't even count all of them, but I was certain that there were hundreds. The door closed and I felt a cold breeze. The window was still open, so I walked to it and looked outside. A tear rolled over my cheek. The wind made it dry pretty fast and it tickled when the wind blew. The cold made me feel lonely. I should be lonely.
"Could you help me up?"
"What?"I said and I looked over the window. There was Ash holding onto the window frame, almost falling. I gave him my hand and helped him up. "How the hell did you get there?"I said laughing. He rubbed his fingers.
"I came to see you, but Charizard flew away when he saw food."Ash said annoyed. "So he left me hanging there, until I would fall and die." I chuckled.
"I like that Charizard." Ash gave me a warning look, which made me laugh even more. "Why were you looking for me, in the middle of the night?"
"I saw you had the lights on."Ash said.
"Light."I corrected him. Ash gave me a threatening face, which I translated as: Shut up, now you still can. I gave him my best teasing look. Ash's eyes narrowed. My smile widened. Then he gave me a light punch in the shoulder.
"I just risked my life for you, Mist."Ash said playfully. I laughed.
"I know, I'm just teasing you."I said. "Though it was funny to see you hanging there." Ash glared at me. I giggled at his reaction. "But that I had the light on isn't a reason to suddenly ask your Charizard to fly you to my room."
"I wanted to check if you were okay."
"Awwwwww."I said, giving him a kiss on his cheek. "That's almost as adorable as Pikachu."
"Wait Pikachu is more adorable than I am?" I grinned.
"Yup!"I said and I jumped in my bed. Ash shook his head.
"Am I ever gonna be more adorable than my pokémon?"
"Nope!"I answered. He sat on my bed, smiling a bit. My mood changed all of a sudden. Psyduck let himself out of his pokéball and stood for Ash in a way, like it was asking: Could you pet me, please? I threw my pillow at Psyduck. "Learn manners!" Ash chuckled.
"Hear who's the one saying that."he said. Psyduck made a sound that sounded suspiciously much as laughing.
"PSYDUCK!"I shouted. Now Ash's chuckle changed in a laugh.
"MISTY QUIET, NOW!"I heard Leaf scream. Arceus! I totally forgot they were here too.
"SORRY!"I shouted back. "You will be punished for this."I growled to Psyduck, who typically tilted his head.
"Psy?"
"Yes, you!" Ash petted the yellow fur ball. "Don't give him what he wants. He's a manipulative yellow lemon."
"Last time it was a mango."
"Don't get attached to mangos all of a sudden." Ash chuckled. "And stop making fun of me."
"But you made fun of me."he said in his defense.
"It's hard not to."I teased. Ash couldn't possibly look more annoyed. Then I kissed him, before even realizing I did. He kissed back. There we were kissing for like a whole minute! When we finally pulled back we were both blushing messes.
"Psyduck!"Psyduck said, filled with joy.
"Psyduck, you're still here?"I asked shocked. Dang! Couldn't he give me some privacy?! I wanted to chase Psyduck till he went back to his pokéball, but Ash stopped me. He shook his head. "Why not?"
"You need to go to sleep."he said and a smirk appeared on his face. "If you want you can hold my hand." I slapped him. "Ouch! What was that good for?"
"You should've seen that one coming, Ketchum." But I still took his hand in mine as I went back to sleep. He soon came lying next to me, so I cuddled up against him. I could feel him smile. This was what I wanted. What I needed. Ash's head turned a little closer to mine and his breath tickled my ear.
"I love you."Ash said, without hesitation. I heard Psyduck went to his pokéball again. Apparently we became too sweet for him. I smiled.
"I love you too."I said. I felt a short kiss on my cheek. The warmth of his breath spreading itself over it. Then I let my head rest on his chest and I slowly fell asleep.
( time skip )
I stopped running and looked at May. "Ten rounds in 15 minutes!"May squealed. I rolled my eyes, but laughed a bit. "You're almost as fast as Paul and nobody has ever been as fast as Paul!"
"Yes, but Paul is a robot when it comes to running."I said cheerfully.
"It's what he's known for."May said, looking at Paul. "You didn't really thought he had fangirls because of his personality, did you?" I chuckled a bit. Then Sky came running to us, also looking at May. The question written on her face: How much?
I looked over May's shoulder and said, "Sixteen minutes. How many rounds did you run?"
"Seven."Sky said disappointed.
"You'll pass."May said happily. "I actually think you'll have a fine mark."
"Sure you think that."Sky said, pouting. "But if I could run just a little faster, I would be very proud of myself."
"We know."I said. "But this is what you can do. Don't try to push yourself. There's a limit Sky." She nodded, but didn't seem convinced. May started doing her best imitation of our history teacher.
"Like a wise man once said,"she began. Sky started to chuckle. "Even robots have their limits." We all looked at Paul, trying to see a mechanical leg or something like that. Unfortunately Paul was all skin and bone. But it made us laugh, just for trying. I grabbed May's sunglasses she had with her for who knew what.
"Mademoiselle, you are a piece of art. Don't ever think the art will fade away."I said in my best imitation of our theatre teacher. Sky started to laugh. May and I started to laugh too. After the bell rang we all went to the canteen, giggling and still imitating our own teachers. Leaf and Dawn were sitting on the same table as Ash, Gary, Paul and Drew. May and I walked to them, but Sky walked to her friends. I didn't see Serena and I felt a sad feeling in my stomach. Her attempt of suicide was also my fault.
"Hey, Mist."Ash said with a grin on his face. "What's up?"
"I have a great grade for PE! Never knew I would score so high on this test!"I said happily. Ash's smile widened as I said that, but Gary had to ruin my happy mood.
"Paul scored the highest."he said. Leaf, May, Dawn, Ash and I glared at Gary.
"Paul is an alien."Dawn said annoyed. Paul looked at her with an emotionless face. Did he have any emotions? Very unlikely.
"I'm no alien."Paul said. "An alien can't love you, the way I do."
"Awwwwwwwwww."May and I said in unison.
"Paul and Dawn sitting in a tree..."Leaf teased. May and Leaf giggled in a way that made me feel left out. Now it was May's turn to tease Dawn.
"Ship. Ship. Ship IT!"May shouted and some people looked our way. Some didn't even bother. We were a loud group of friends. I guess even Arceus had trouble not killing us already. Paul made that look where he asked: Why? May stuck her tongue out.
"You are all pathetic."Paul said. Dawn pouted.
"Good to know."she said annoyed. Paul's eyes widened.
"Except for you."he said quickly. "You're perfect."
"Trying to make up for it, huh?"I said teasingly. Paul stiffened and leaned against the wall with crossed arms. Ash grinned, Gary smirked, Drew... Where the hell was Drew? May seemed to realize Drew's disappearance too.
"Where's Drew?"she asked, letting a little fear being heard through her voice.
"Oh he said to me he was gonna check on Pikachu and Roselia."Gary said, shrugging. May's disappointment was written all over her face. Apparently she needed to talk to Drew or something like that. I said that if I could, I would do anything to make it up to her.
"You should go to him."I said making a gesture to the door. May smiled, but shook her head. "Why not?" May looked away. Nope, I wasn't gonna give up. I straightened and repeated, "Why not?" May sighed.
"He doesn't want to talk to me."she said finally.
"Let me talk to him."Ash said and he already stood up. But May shook her head again.
"He doesn't want to talk with you about it either."she said. She probably knew better why Drew wouldn't want to talk to them, but I had a feeling it was about a kiss. I took a deep breath.
"Then I'll go."I said resolved. May thought about it for a moment and nodded then. "Really?" She smiled and nodded again.
"That, might even work."May said merrily.
"Happy to assist."I said pleased and I walked away. I now had been to Ash's dormitory so many times, it didn't take long to find it. Even from the outside I could hear slow, tragic music playing. Good to know Drew still stole Paul's cd's. I knocked on the door. The music stopped and I heard how someone clumsily came to the door.
"Ouch! PIKACHU!"I heard Drew scream. "GIVE BACK THE MUSTARD!"
"PIKA!" I rolled my eyes.
"WE DON'T HAVE KETCHUP, PIKACHU!"shouted the boy. "NO ROSELIA! THOSE ARE NOT YOURS! GIVE IT BACK! ROSELIA! PIKACHU, NO THAT'S NO KETCHUP, THAT'S... syrup." I knocked again. "COMING!" Drew opened the door with messy hair and behind him an even messier room. Drew's roselia was busy playing with Gary's shampoo and Pikachu was spilling syrup on the ground. I saw a mustard bottle on the couch, open. I raised an eyebrow.
"Need a hand?"
"Couldn't hurt."Drew said, looking at the mess his Roselia and Pikachu made. "You take care of Pikachu, I'll take care of Roselia." I nodded.
"Sounds fair enough." When Pikachu saw me, it let the syrup fall out of his little hands and started to hug me in a cute way. "Awww. I missed you too. But we need to clean the mess you and your friend made, got it?"
"Pika!"Pikachu yelled happily and it jumped on the ground to start with the syrup. Roselia was back in its pokéball and Drew started cleaning the couch. I started with the floor. After some time the room was all clean again. And just at that moment the bell rang.
"Darn it!"I said. "Drew I needed to talk to you about something." He nodded and picked up his bag and walked to the door. Pikachu and I followed. Please, say we have the same subject at the moment. "May was kinda worried, but didn't think you wanted to talk to her."
"She got that right."Drew said, walking straight ahead.
"Why not?"I asked, though I had a feeling it was the same reason that made me want to avoid Ash. "Is it because of... The kiss with Ash?" Drew stopped walking and turned to me.
"What else?"he asked annoyed. He sighed, bit his lip and slowly shook his head. "She kissed him. I can't help but feel like..."
"It wasn't like that."I explained. "Brendan was there and May didn't felt like talking to him. Since he kissed her, right after Barry died. She was upset and asked Ash for help. First she stayed in the toilet, but they didn't have the time to wait there till midnight. So she came back and Ash got this crazy idea in his mind. He said she had to play along, so she did. And they kissed. It didn't really work and Ash got beaten up by Brendan. Don't blame May for anything."
"Why wouldn't May tell me that herself?"Drew asked, not believing a word I said. I sighed. Drew was even more stubborn than I was. I looked him straight in the eyes, showing him I told the truth.
"Because you didn't let her."I said. Drew's hair fell before his eye, but he didn't feel like flicking it away. His emerald eyes showed a hint of hope, but it faded quickly.
"I'm leaving."he said, for the first time sad instead of angry.
"What?"I asked. Drew turned around, so he wouldn't have to look me in the eyes.
"I'm leaving."he repeated. "To another school. My parents always wanted me to live with them, so I'm going back to Hoenn. There's nothing we can do about it."
"No."I whispered slowly. Drew walked away, leaving me alone in the empty hallway. Poor May. I walked to the classroom. The teacher gave me a long lecture about how wrong it was to come late, but I couldn't care about any of his words. I closed my eyes. What should I do now?
( May's POV )
The next lunch break I ran to Misty, to ask her how it went. But I lost hope when I saw Misty's face. "Misty...?"
"M-May, I... I n-need to tell you... something."Misty stuttered. I nodded worriedly. Please, say blood or pain wasn't involved. "I-I d-don't really know how... to put it."
"Just say it."
"He's leaving."Misty said as fast as she could.
"Leaving?" Misty nodded.
"He's going to another school."she said and swallowed before going on. "In Hoenn, to live with his parents. He said that there was nothing we could do about it." I looked at the ground. Living without Grasshead in my life? I couldn't do that. I needed him, now more than ever. I bit my lip, fighting the upcoming tears.
"When is he leaving?"I asked, keeping my emotions as far away as I could.
"I don't know."Misty said. "He didn't say." I nodded and walked to Drew, Ash, Gary and Paul. I swallowed.
"Drew,"I asked with a broken voice. He looked up, his emerald eyes sparkling in the sunlight. "Can we talk?" He stood up and walked with me without saying anything. "Is it true?"I asked after a while. "Are you leaving?" Drew looked at me with a guilty look.
"Yes, it's true."he said and I gave up. Tears streamed down my face, in my mouth or to my neck. It felt like the whole world was falling apart. This must be what a broken heart felt like. I didn't even try to fight the tears, or to hit Drew when he wiped away my tears with his hands. I could only cry. Cry and cry. My own eyes hurt from the crying and I started to get a headache. Good that I didn't have school for the rest of the day. The bell rang, but I didn't have to go. Neither did Drew. He hugged me, tried to comfort me, but it didn't work.
"Why?"I asked through my endless sobs. Drew gave me a soft kiss on my forehead.
"I'm sorry."he only said. I grabbed him, before he could go away. I buried my face into his shoulder.
"You're not leaving me."I said angry, but the sobs didn't stop. He continued hugging me, while I punched him weakly.
"I have to."he said. I held onto him, like he was all I had left. He couldn't leave. He just couldn't! I looked him in the eyes again, practically begging him not to go. He stroked my hair. "I'm sorry,"he repeated. "But I have no choice." I cried even louder. He pushed my head a little higher and gave me a quick kiss on the lips. I closed my eyes in that short moment. Then I kissed him. This time long. And the best part was that he kissed back. We only stopped when we heard a loud scream filling the silence.
