Chapter 12
( Dawn's POV )
Barry. I knew him. I was in class with him. I was friends with him. And now... he was dead. They only told us. No last goodbyes. I could come to his funeral, but I wouldn't see him. I would see a coffin. I heard a young waitress had found him at the back of the restaurant where she worked. I blamed her.
The silence was unbearable. The whole school listened. Some cried, I did too. I was scared when Leaf was gone, but this was a whole new level of scared. I never had felt something like this. There was a hole inside me. Someone was killing people here. Killing, kidnapping and whatever they did too.
I couldn't focus couldn't control myself. I needed to get out of here. Barry was one of those people I knew since I was little. (I know that Kenny was that and I don't know anything about Barry so again, I made this up)
Officer Jenny was standing by the door of the canteen. Why students? We were just children. We couldn't even defend ourselves. I had never thought so much without saying anything of it. But I guess I would never be the same.
"Because of the unfortunate events we decided to take some measures."the teacher said. His voice was lower than usual and nobody looked him in the eye. "Nobody can go out after 8 PM or before 7 AM. Nobody can go out alone. There are some safety devices that will check on any illegal stuff. There is security in the school. Nobody is allowed to have any communication to the outside world." For once it was completely silent, without anyone groaning.
( Misty's POV )
Seven days. I was here seven days and somebody was murdered. It's like they didn't want me to become happy. It's like there was someone in this school that was trying to hurt me. But they didn't hurt me. They had hurt a blonde haired boy Dawn called Barry. There was no pattern in the victims. One was killed, one kidnapped. Leaf and Barry. The didn't look alike or had anything in common. There always was a pattern, but I was clueless about this one.
After the speech from the teacher I ran to the swimming pool. It was the only place I could stay without anyone disturbing me. There were no lessons today. I had to admit I was scared. I just sat on the cold watery floor of the swimming pool and started crying. I saw flashbacks and became a little dizzy. This would take a week and then Barry's dead would be forgotten, by most people. But I couldn't get the blonde boy out of my head. What if... what if this was my fault? It could be, right?
The door opened, but I didn't even take a look who was there. I went on crying until I got a hand on my shoulder. Then I looked up. I had the hiccups and the tears couldn't stop rolling. Ash looked at me with worry in his eyes.
"Did you know Barry?"he asked. I shook my head. He wiped away one of my tears and it would almost be a cute moment, but I hiccuped between it.
"Ash, I'm scared."I then said. I buried my head in his shoulder as I went on: "I d-don't know w-w-what to d-do?" My hiccups finally stopped, but that didn't help me from stuttering. Ash threw his arms around me. And smiled slightly. I could see he was scared too, but he was incredibly good at hiding it.
"I know."Ash said. His voice was soft and calming. I wanted to stay here and fall asleep in his arms. "You're strong Misty, you don't have to be afraid. Plus I'm here and I'll never leave your side." He tilted my head so I would look him in the eyes again. His eyes were almost as relaxing as his voice. Then he planted his lips on mine and gave me a slow, but long kiss. Encouraging and on the right moment. I closed my eyes and kissed him back.
( May's POV )
I knew Barry from class, but was never close to him. Dawn was crying at the speech of the teacher, back in the canteen. I wasn't sad I was afraid. I was always afraid. I wanted that to change, but it was hard. The canteen speech had been an hour ago or something like that. Misty hadn't come back from wherever she went. Dawn had locked herself up in her room listening to songs like: Never forget you and If I die young.
Leaf worked and read. It was like she'd completely forgotten the outside world. Our phones and laptops were taken from us. The school had also taken our keys and they would lock us up around 8 PM until morning. I didn't really know what to do, since they decided there were no classes for today and tomorrow.
I sat in my room making some homework, though my mind wasn't doing homework. Someone knocked on the door.
"Come in!"I yelled as I looked up to the door. It opened and Brendan came in my room smiling. I smiled too and ran excitingly to him. I gave him a hug and made a sound I never made before. My eyes were filled with tears. But no tears of sadness, tears of happiness.
"Hey May-May."he said and he hugged me back. "Heard what happened with Leaf and I thought: 'Can't leave May there with a crazy psychopath in the school.'" I chuckled. "Then I heard about... yesterday." I stopped smiling and became silent.
"Let's just... not talk about that."I suggested. "It's not really helping."
Brendan nodded and sat on my bed. "So, how are you?"
"Good. I've got a new friend, who happens to be my new dormie."I said smiling again. "Her name's Misty. She's really nice. And I became friends with a girl Misty knows from Cerulean City; Sky."
"So new year, new friends?"Brendan asked.
"Sort of. But Leaf and Dawn are still my friends I guess. And you of course!"
"Of course!"he said and I chuckled as I packed my pillow and threw it at Brendan. "Oh so that's how you treat an old friend."
"Awww. Do you want pity?" Brendan's eyes narrowed as he took the pillow and threw it at me. I laughed and took another pillow together with the one that now lay on the ground. We ran after each other, laughing and playing. My mind focused on something else for a change. Brendan finally got me by the back of my t-shirt and I tried to get out of his grip.
"Ha! Gotcha!"Brendan said.
"No fair!"I yelled, but laughed anyway. "But seriously let go of my shirt."
Brendan laughed and let go, instead he took my hand and twirled me towards him. We were incredibly close to each other's faces and I felt my cheeks burn up. He still smirked at me and then kissed me. I didn't do anything, I was too shocked. I had known Brendan since I was a little kid. Then I stepped back. I didn't make him finish the kiss. I just stared at him with disbelief, slowly shaking my head.
"What, do you think you're doing?"I then asked. Brendan looked surprised.
"I-I just..."
"What do you think you're doing?!"I now yelled. Didn't he have any feelings! I was still schocked and afraid, because what happened. How did he think this was okay?
"I thought..."
"You thought what?!"
Brendan shook his head. "I thought you liked me too." I scoffed took my jacket and the sketchbook he had given me. And I walked out of my own room. Furious. Misty just came in the living room, smiling.
"Hey May. Everything okay?"
"No."I said and I walked out of my room. It was only 4 PM so I could stay outside for at least four hours. I started running. Maybe I would've tolerated the kiss if it was on a different moment. Maybe I would've liked it, if it was on a different moment. But guess what?! It wasn't! The stupid asshole picked the wrong moment!
I bumped into someone in the hallway. "What?"I asked as I stood up. My sketchbook had fallen so I reached for it, but the person I bumped into had it first. I looked up. Brianna. Great! "Look Brianna I'm not having a good day, can I have my sketchbook back?"
"Hmmm... I don't know. I would very much like to see it."she said. I took a swing at the sketchbook, but Brianna was faster. She threw it to Ursula, who apparently was here too.
"Give it back!"I yelled as I ran to Ursula. She just smirked and threw the book back to Brianna. I was now getting really annoyed. "I said give it back!" Brianna smiled and threw it back to Ursula. At least I guess that was the idea. The book fell on the floor on the exact page I had drawn. It fell just before Drew. He looked at the sketchbook. The sketch I had made... of him. I turned red and knew it was too late. Drew just picked up the book and looked at the sketch smiling a little. This just made me blush even more. Then he gave the sketchbook back to me.
"Didn't know you were so good in drawing."he said.
"T-thanks."I stuttered.
"See you later, June." I couldn't even get mad at him for saying the wrong name. This was so embarrassing. Brianna seemed furious that Drew hadn't given her any attention at all, but I just stared at the drawing I had made. Still as red as a tomato. Dawn had asked who I had drawn. It was kind of ironic though. To draw Drew. But I completely forgot about Brendan, about Barry and most of all about standing in a hallway. It was like I couldn't move. I could only stare at the place Drew had just stood. And a smile escaped my lips.
( Jessie's POV )
I stepped inside the humongous building. The woman stood before me looking around.
"Hey you!"she then screamed at a guy. He had blueish hair and green eyes. "Get this girl something to eat." He nodded a little afraid of the woman. I gave him a slight smile just before he turned around to get me something. I bit my lip and was reconsidering the woman's offer. I had to say I was afraid of what would happen. I could become a completely different person. I hadn't thought well enough about this. But I wasn't going to drop out either. I would at least try.
"I need to go to the boss."the woman said. I just nodded a little shy. "See you soon." The woman walked away as I sat on the long couch. There lay a pokéball on the table before me. My fear turned into curiosity and I picked up the pokéball. I wondered which pokémon was in it. A Magikarp, probably not. A Flareon, could be. An Ursaring, most likely. I wanted to call up whatever pokémon was inside when the blue haired guy came back with some bread and water.
"Thank you."I said as I laid back the pokéball. I ate the bread, while the guy just kept staring at me. "Is some-ing wrong?"I asked with a full mouth.
"N-no."the guy said. "You're just eating like your life depends on it."
"Well it does technically."I said as I stopped eating. "If you don't eat you'll die."
The guy nodded. Then he looked at the pokéball on the table. "It's yours you know."
"Really?" The guy nodded. "What's in it?" The guy shrugged. I picked the pokéball up and looked at it with disbelief.
"Have you ever had a pokémon before?"the guy asked. I looked at him and nodded softly. "Where is it?"
"I-I don't have it." I quickly looked away.
"What happened?"
"It has been taken from me. I lived in a fosters home. There weren't any pokémon allowed so it has been taken away."
"Which pokémon was it?" I started to get annoyed of the guy's curiosity.
"A Mudkip."I said. The guy stopped asking questions and was obviously waiting until I would let out whatever pokemon was inside the pokéball. I just took some more bread and started eating again. It was great bread. Not too dry, but also not too wet.
"Are you... gonna look which pokémon is inside."
"Oh, right."I said as I picked up the pokéball. "Pokéball go!" A red light came out of the pokéball and it revealed a young Ekans. I had never seen an Ekans. Actually I had seen only a few pokémon.
"Heh... it's purple."the guy said.
"It's amazing!!"I screamed and I hugged the Ekans. It was adorable.
"Ekans..."it said joyfully. Then the woman came in. Ekans hid behind my leg softly saying: "Ekans?"
"Get it back into its pokéball!"the woman yelled at me as she saw Ekans. I obeyed and called Ekans back to its pokéball. "The boss likes to see you." The caring voice of the woman was gone and instead her tone was cold. Who was this boss?
I stepped into the man's large office. I didn't see his face only the back of a chair with a shadow in it. The room was filled with televisions that showed different places. One of them was a street. It was filmed out of a seat of a restaurant and I realized that someone was filming this on this right moment. The man should have spies everywhere. There was also a pokémon centre. There just came a woman in with a hurt Seel. And so where there dozens of screens showing a certain place.
"She's here."the woman said. I was getting annoyed. What did they want from me?
"Good."a low male voice said. And the chair slowly turned around. A man sat in the chair. He had brown hair and an orange tuxedo on. On top of him sat a young Meowth. "Can you say you're name?"
"Jessie."I said, I tried to sound cool but failed. I could feel the fear coming closer to my mind. But I couldn't let the fear in. I needed to stay focused, now more than ever.
"And why are you here?"the "boss" said.
"I want to learn how to stand up for myself."
________________________________________________________________________________
Okay this chapter took me forever to write! Luckily I don't immediately post and it doesn't look like I'm taking incredibly long😆... well until I said so that is. Anyways, I won't tell anything out of Jessie's POV anymore. I'm thinking about making another book after this one that's completely about Jessie's time at team Rocket. I even got a name: Fighting Arrows (pokémon). What do you think? But I'll first finish this story.
