It finally began to feel real when the interview came. It was the premiere of Monsters and Nailea was so anxious for it. It had been almost a year since her last appearance on the carpet.
But she knew she had people by her side the entire time. Especially Nicholas.
As she watched the main cast; Nicholas, Cooper, Chloë and Javier, walk onto the carpet first shivers ran down her back.
"It's going to be okay." She felt Miller hold onto her shoulder, "Relax."
And that's what Nailea did. Once she relaxed she through flew the paparazzi. Next up was the interviews, which she knew at least one of them was going to be challenging.
But finally, the night was almost to an end when Nailea had one last interview.
"Hello viewers. Today I am here with the one and only, Nailea Holloway. Welcome, how are you doing?"
"Hi! I'm doing very well, but nervous but overall super happy to be here." Nailea smiled at the interviewer then the camera.
"Talk to me about your transformation when it comes to your character."
"Well, it was definitely a process. First off, I made sure to do all my research before taking onto this project. I have always been a fan of true crime and learnt a few things about this case, but as I dug deeper into the story I was more educated on the situation. I had made the time to visit Lyle Menendez with Cooper Koch which was an excellent experience."
"Wow, that is amazing. And have you had to deal with any backlash? Because I know that some people have had some reactions to the show."
"Uhm, well before going into this project I did take into consideration of what would happen when being apart of this show, and I have seen the response from Lyle and that is completely understandable."
"And how does it feel getting back into acting?" The interviewer asked.
Nailea deeply sighed before responding to the question, "I have taken a little while to get used to, but it feels great to be in front of the camera again."
The interviewer nodded, listening intently to Nailea's responses. "That's amazing to hear. And how was it working with your co-stars?" she asked, gesturing towards Nicholas and the others.
She knew exactly where this interviewer was getting at.
"It was incredible," Nailea replied, her smile growing wider. "Everyone on set was so talented and supportive, I couldn't have asked for a better experience."
Just then, Nicholas joined them, standing beside Nailea. He gave her a warm smile, sensing her earlier nerves.
The interviewer turned her attention to him, "Nicholas, what was it like working with Nailea on this project?"
Nicholas replied, his eyes flickering to Nailea for a moment. "Yeah, it was really great. She's an incredibly talented actress and was a pleasure to work with. We had a lot of fun during filming."
"It looks like you guys share a great chemistry on and off screen," The interviewer commented with a small smirk, catching the subtle exchange between the costars.
Nailea felt her face start to blush, but she tried to keep her cool. "Yeah, we get along really well," she said, looking at Nicholas, who chuckled softly.
"Speaking of chemistry, is there something more happening between you two? Rumors have been circulating about a possible romance between the two of you."
Nailea and Nicholas exchanged a quick glance, both of them slightly caught off guard by the question. Nicholas took the lead, leaning a little closer to the microphone. "Well," he began, a small smile on his lips. "We do have a lot in common and get along very well."
Nailea chimed in, "But we're just good friends."
"But there hasn't been any romance between you two?"
Nailea and Nicholas exchanged another glance, both of them sensing the pressure to give a bigger, more explosive response. But they both knew the truth.
Nicholas spoke up again, his tone calm but firm. "No, there hasn't been any romance between us like that. We're just close friends."
Nailea nodded in agreement, trying to keep her expression neutral.
The interviewer sensed that they were sticking to their story and knew it was their signal to end the interview. "Okay, well thank you for this. Have a wonderful evening."
"Thank you," they said in unison, waving goodbye.
As they walked away from the interview area, Nailea felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Well, that was something," she said, turning to Nicholas with a small smirk.
He chuckled and nodded, "Yeah, that was a bit intense. But I think we handled it pretty well."
They continued walking, but there was a bit of a strange, awkward tension between them. They both knew that the interviewer's question had brought something to the surface.
After a few moments of silence, Nicholas spoke up. "You know that's not the first time I've been asked that question about us."
Nailea raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Really? What did you say?"
He chuckled again, running a hand through his hair. "Basically the same thing we said. That we're just friends and that there's nothing more going on."
She nodded, feeling a mix of relief and confusion. "Why do interviewers even ask stuff like that? It's like they want us to say something exciting."
Nicholas shrugged, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "I guess they're just looking for a juicy story. It makes better headlines if there's romance involved."
Nailea rolled her eyes, "Yeah, probably. But it's ridiculous. We're just trying to promote a serious show and they're asking about our personal lives."
"Yeah, it's pretty annoying," Nicholas agreed. "But I guess that comes with the territory of Hollywood."
They arrived at a quieter area, away from the commotion of the red carpet. The silence between them grew a little bit more uncomfortable.
Nailea couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more bubbling underneath the surface, something they were both trying to ignore.
She decided to break the silence first. "You know, sometimes I wonder..." she began, her voice trailing off.
Nicholas looked at her curiously, his voice soft. "Wonder what?"
She hesitated for a moment, not sure if she should say it. But she took a deep breath and decided to be honest. "Sometimes I wonder if there's more to our friendship than just us being friends. And I know that sounds crazy because we're just co-stars and all, but..."
Nicholas was silent for a moment, trying to process her words. He finally spoke up, his voice a bit hesitant. "Yeah, I've thought about that too, actually. A lot."
Nailea was a bit surprised by his response, but also relieved that he was being honest with her. "Really?" she asked, her eyes meeting his.
"Yeah, it's been hard not to think about it. You're an incredible person, Nai. I enjoy spending time with you, and there's definitely a connection between us."
Nailea's heart skipped a beat, feeling a flutter in her stomach. "I feel the same way," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "But what do we do about it?"
Nicholas took a step closer to her, their bodies almost touching. "I don't know," he admitted, his voice a bit rough. "But I do know that I can't ignore these feelings anymore. I want to explore this, see where it takes us."
Nailea's breath caught in her throat. She was feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. She looked up at him, her eyes locking onto his.
"I want that too."
