2| Realizing
Sam stared at the letter in red and blue. Mumbling the letter to himself over and over. Grian placed his hand on his shoulder, snapping him from his trance. Passing Grian the fabric, Sam suddenly remembered who it belonged to.
"T- Taurtis,"
They looked at each other, then at the pod. "I hope he's ok,"
"Me too," The boys continued there way down the row of pods until they came to an elevator, without question they hopped on and pushed the button. The elevator began to rise. Looking up, they stared at the doors above the elevator slowly opened and a blinding light pierced through the door as they slowly opened. Reviling the outside world.
As their eyes adjusted to the light they saw that the sky was a pale brown color, almost sickly. When the elevator reached the top the two boys looked at the land perplexed.
The ground was brown and dusty, all the trees were dead and everything was destroyed. Grian was the first to step forward. As soon as his foot touched the ground it shuffled out the way like sand. He kicked up a small pile of dust into the air and watched it swirl and disappear. He walked forward, constantly testing the ground. Soon after, Sam stepped forward and off the elevator. A wiring noise broke the silence, making the two boys jump. The elevator began to go back down and the doors began to close.
Looking forward Sam noticed a building that looked like the remains of their school.
"Hey, over there, that looks like our school!"
"Should we go over there?"
"Well why not? We've got nothing to do anyway,"
The two boys headed down the dusty trail towards the school. The trail wasn't as long as they though, but everything was in shambles and they couldn't help but stare.
When the boys finally came to the school, they looked up at it. It was... Smaller then they remembered. Heading inside was a fairly difficult task due to the fact that there was lots of rubble. But they managed to squeeze through. Upon entering the first thing the boys found was a piece of rope. They kept it, thinking It may come in handy.
As they began to scavenge the school they found : a backpack, 2 cans of beans, a water bottle and a hand gun. Continuing there exploration they made there way to their old classroom. The rope was still there. As the boys began to look inside the classroom, Grian let out a Shriek as a giant bug leapt at his face. Making him fall over. The bug began to snap whilst Grian squirmed underneath it. Until Sam kicked it off him, sending it skidding to the other side of the hall with a trail of yellow goo.
As they turned around to flee two more crawled out of the classroom. With loud screeches they flew at the two boys. Sam kicked one while Grian slammed the other one into a wall. Soon after another giant insect crawled out the classroom. It was scorpion like, yet it had wings and longer legs. Landing in front of them, it positioned its sting and attacked.
Throwing its sting at Sam, it struck his arm and he fell to the floor. Clenched his arm and gritting his teeth. Poison, and a strong one at that.
Grian turned to face the insect, ready to strike. Throwing himself out the way, its sting missed and collided with the wall. Jumping on its back he pinned the tail down as he began to pull at its head.
With a final screech its head disconnected with its body and it fell to the ground. Grian crawled over to Sam and picked him up. As he turned around he saw a shadow climb up the stairs.
