O N E
"You plan to make an army, form a new country, and you expect everyone to follow the rules with a snap," The old man laughed drinking from his chipped mug that read 'Best dad award'. "You two are crazy...and I like it."
Seth chuckled nervously, as his twin sister Jessie rocked on the back legs of her chair impatiently. "Will you help us by spreading the word about Seven Legions or have your little group join us?" He asked as the old man cocked an eyebrow. "We needed soldiers if we're planning to create a country, and return the peacefulness that we had before the bombs dropped."
"Well I have to thin—"
"Choose old man!" Jessie shouted flying forward so her chair slammed against the floor and stood pounding her hands against the table. "You either help us, or we leave."
The old man looked up at her, stroking his beard before standing up, and showing off his short height. "I'll help," he said. "But at a cost, young lady."
Jessie sat down and Seth glanced at her. "What do you want?"
"You have a encampment right?" The old man said to Seth whom nod in response. "I'm a doctor, and telling by that aged open wound on your ear you don't got one."
Seth nod again. "Our last one was killed when bandits tried to invade," Seth said. "We would be glad to—"
"The other thing I want is a position in power," the old man said grabbing a bag and beginning to fill it with medications, surgical tools, bandages, and other medical stuff. "If you do in fact create your country, I want a position and a high one too."
Jessie opened her mouth to sass but Seth just nudged her. "Sure," he said. "We'll give you a high position, and you can be the head of our medical staff in the army we're forming."
The old turned and smiled as he went to pack some clothes. Seth grabbed his gun off the table and stood, looking around. "You almost endangered us again, idiot," Seth said punching his sister's arm which resulted in her kicking him in the shin. "Should I start curtsying, prick?" She hissed and Seth rolled his eyes. "You're impossible."
"So are you!" She hissed scratching him just as the old man came back.
"I've never heard twins fight," he said stuffing his clothing into a second bag. "It must happen often, eh?"
Jessie rolled her eyes. "A lot more often."
~MEMPHIS~
"Why Memphis?" The old man asked, watching as the gate slowly opened in a slow, almost agonizingly slow movement. "I like ancient Egyptian cities," Seth said as he simply decided to duck under the opening gate and walk towards the metal fence that was guarded by two men who immediately saluted and opened it.
Jessie sighed, looking at the old man. "We didn't introduce ourselves did we?" She said not remembering getting a name from him as they walked through multiple gates and into a large city made entirely of scrap metal buildings, and other materials with a courthouse building standing in the center. The old man shook his head.
"No," he said, looking around, surprised how much like houses the building looked like instead unsteady pieces of metal. "How did you guys build this city?"
"We were lucky," Jessie shrugged. "We met architect while trying to expand our army, and he designed most of the city and our construction workers built them. "And It was all on luck."
"This place has jobs?" A young woman said from behind them, Jessie nod smiling. "We have plenty of jobs here, a also a school, hospital, Memphis police, and lots of Available housing."
The old man smiled. "Quite a city of achievements," he said. Jessie look at him and smiled. "thanks, we try to keep it that way, try to make things feel how they were before."
Seth was waiting at the courthouse, waving them over immediately. "Welcome to Memphis," he said smiling. "I hope you all settle in nicely."
The old man smiled shaking hands with Seth. "A marvelous city you go here, my name is Dr. Kevin Roots, but you can Kevin...or Roots if you want."
"Seth and Jessie storm, people call us the Storm twins," he said smiling, before he lead them inside to be assigned to housing.
