❀ Chapter 6 ❀
✿ heart split in two ✿
"Oh, Bailey, this is Michael. Michael, this is Bailey." I introduced the two people. Bailey smiled and Michael waved.
"This is your friend?" Michael asked me. I nodded.
"Yeah I've been looking for her." I said, my voice raising its volume towards the end of the sentence towards Bailey.
"Oh yeah, Ashlee, it's getting late." Bailey pointed out. I checked my phone, and it read 12:47 pm.
"Oh shit. We should be getting home." I mumbled.
"It's only past midnight, why the rush?" Michael asked as I started to walk past him, but he followed.
"I promised my mom that I'd be back home by midnight." I replied walking towards Bailey.
"Wait, Ashlee!" Michael said making me turn around. "I wanna talk to you more." He smiled softly. I chuckled.
"Okay, give me your phone." I put my hand out, and after Michael unlocked his password, I went into contacts and added myself.
Then I gave him back his phone and said, "Text or call me when you can, yeah?" Michael nodded putting his phone in his pocket.
As I left the kitchen, Bailey and I walked side by side. I lifted my head up to look up in front of me, but then Bailey put and arm around me.
"Ashlee, keep your head down." She said.
"What are you talking about?" I looked at what's in front of me...
And I saw Luke and Francesca making out on the side wall. I looked at them; Luke's hands were holding her waist and Francesca's hands were running through his hair.
I must've stared too long because I felt Bailey tug my arm.
"Ashlee, cmon." She said pulling me out the door. My heart started racing, and that feeling came back into my stomach. I was walking slow, trying to process everything.
"Ashlee, you okay?" Bailey asked sympathetically. I nodded clearing my throat.
"Yeah...yeah no I'm fine." I said quickly looking down at my shoes.
"I know you're not..." Bailey said softly. She put a hand on my arm making me look up at her.
Then she held my hand, as best friends do, and started walking back to my house.
"What do you mean?" I asked as my heart started to slow down.
Bailey sighed. "I think you like Luke. Like more than a friend." Bailey answered. I looked at her as if I was shocked.
"What?! No I don't.." Bailey started swinging our arms back and forth.
"Listen, Ashlee. Calum has been noticing how you look at Luke, and he's been noticing your behavior when someone mentions Luke and Francesca." Bailey explained.
"...So he told you?" I asked quietly. Bailey nodded pursing her lips. I looked down, hearing the steps of our feet on the pavement.
"And I started to believe it. He does have a point, the way you look at Luke." Bailey continued.
"And now I actually know because you stared at Luke and Francesca in the hallway." I looked down again at my shoes stepping in front of the other.
"I don't know what happened. We're friends and I want to keep it like that." I said stiffly. Bailey slightly chuckled.
"I know you don't, you like him!!" I whined looking at back up in front of me.
"Is that bad? Is it wrong to like someone who's already dating someone else?" I asked rather slowly.
Bailey stopped walking and we turned to each other. "It's not wrong, it's just unsettling. I mean how can you live knowing the one you like, likes someone else?"
I sighed feeling that slightly uneasy feeling in my stomach again.
"Well I'm holding on. I don't know for how long until I fall." I shrugged.
"Fall until you crash." Bailey added.
We turned back into our direction and began walking again.
"That's probably not gonna happen for a while. Right now I'm...I'm just falling. You know, I didn't hit rock bottom yet."
"And if you do?" Bailey pushed me to continue. I slowed my walking.
"Uhm..." Bailey looked at me like she knew I couldn't answer. "I'll just figure it out when the time comes."
"I'll be here for you." Bailey replied putting an arm around my shoulders. I smiled resting my head against hers.
"And Calum, and maybe Michael." Bailey and I chuckled.
~✿~
Bailey and I made it back to my house and once I got the door open, my mom came down the stairs.
"Mom! Shouldn't you be sleeping?" I asked realizing it's already 1:11 in the morning. "I told you to be home by midnight." My mom pointed out.
"I'm sorry, we were having fun." I shrugged looking down. Bailey stood next to me not opening her mouth.
"You're lucky enough I know who's party it was." My mom crossed her arms with a lighter tone.
"Bailey, your mom called. You're gonna have to stay for the night." My mom then said.
Bailey and I looked at each other in pure excitement.
"I have a mattress already put in Ashlee's room so you can sleep next to her." My mom added.
"By yourself? The mattress is heavy and you brought it from the basement? I could've helped you." I said taking a step towards my mother.
"It's okay, at least I didn't break anything." She said in a 'duh' tone.
"Thank you, Mrs. Cantina." Bailey said looking at my mom. My mom nodded about to go back up the stairs.
"I'm gonna go back to bed, and Ashlee, lend something for Bailey to sleep in. Bailey, make yourself at home."
Mom, you're the best.
~~~
"Sooooo, what do you like about him?" Bailey asked out of the blue. I was in front of my mirror dresser fixing my hair while Bailey laid in the mattress.
"Who? About Luke?"
"Mmhmm." I rolled my eyes.
"Really? Now?"
"I'm dead serious." I looked back into the mirror.
"Well, his eyes are so blue...and pretty." I began to get sappy. Which is totally fine because I trust Bailey.
Bailey grinned cheekily. "What else?"
"Ugh I feel like this is some cliche romance movie." I groaned. Bailey giggled softly. "What else do you like about Luke?"
"His hair. I mean it always looks so soft and his hairstyles, man." I sighed. Bailey giggled a little louder.
"Dude, you are so whipped."
"I am, and it's not good." Moments of silence suddenly filled the room, but I just continued.
"And the way he laughs, the way his voice comes out when he laughs..." I stared past my mirror and just kept 'dreaming'. Bailey smiled turning her head to me.
"You probably don't like him, but love him."
I sighed, moving to my bed and getting under the covers. I pulled the blanket up to my chest and laid on the pillow pouting.
"It's getting worse!" I put my hands to my head, turning to face the ceiling.
"Don't fight it!! It's bound to happen anyways." Bailey shrugged pulling up the covers.
"Am I gonna be okay?" I asked after a moment. I heard Bailey's head turn to my bed.
"Will you?"
I turned my body to the side and pressed my face into the pillow.
"I hope. Goodnight." "Goodnight."
