It was an easy thing to think something, to want to believe that you could do something when in reality, she wasn't very sure she would actually be able to go through with it all. Roman had conviction, she did, she had the willpower needed to do what she set out to, but Edward made it incredibly difficult without ever meaning to.
She hid that little tidbit from him the best she could, and from the frustrated looks he would occasionally send her, the looks that screamed that she was succeeding, Roman wasn't' very worried that he would figure out her desire for him all that easily.
Because she was burning with a want for both of them, the island and the fact that they were on their honeymoon doing something to her libido that made her much more insatiable than she could have ever thought possible.
At least he was working had to keep them busy and distracted with magical words like coral reefs and submerged caves and sea turtles. All things that had Roman's attention completely since she was always so eager, so pitching to see the nature of the island and just the island itself.
It was enough to annoy Bella, at least, since the girl was normally too exhausted to actually try and make a pass at either of them when they got back to the house -- not that she would have to try hard with Roman since she was so wound up but she knew it wouldn't be very fair for Edward.
Not that they needed him around to fool around, but it would have been nice since it was their honeymoon and he was punishing himself.
Roman was just so full of energy, so full motion, but even by the end of the day, knowing that she was still so hyper, she found herself with a headache night after night that had her pressed her head to Edward's chest in order to soothe the throbbing.
Still, she tried to hide it from them both the best she could. That seemed to work since Edward never once mentioned it.
But every moment on the island was wonderful, even if it wasn't going exactly as planned. She loved every uninterrupted moment that she spent with them no matter what it was that they were doing.
The bruises were much better now though, and though she mourned the loss just a little, knowing that she would never get to wear them ever again, she knew that it made Edward's guilt lift some knowing that he didn't have to see them anymore. Roman had taken plenty of photos to keep for herself, for years later lest she ever forgets what they looked like.
It made it easier for her to parade around in skimpy outfits, outfits that she was much more comfortable in than Bella clearly was.
Bella was stunning in them though, and if she had pulled the girl into her lap quite a few times since her little attempts had started, letting her senses be blinded by everything that was her wife, then she couldn't be blamed. She was electrified each time that she saw the lingerie on skin that was no longer milky white but slowly turning a golden brown.
This time she came out in a sky blue colour that made her squirm in the bed, scrambling to sit up quickly as she watched Bella do a little spin.
"What do you think?" she asked, hands fiddling at her hips.
"You look beautiful as always," Edward says, voice tight.
Roman bites her lip. "You look really hot."
Her wife perks up, colour rushing to her cheeks. "You think?"
"Definitely."
"Thanks," she says brightly, but she moves to the bed, crawling in between Roman and Edward.
She whines as she steals away her spot, but still rolls to lay her cheek against her shoulder.
Her wife was tired. She was always tired now because of Edward and his adventures, no matter how much Bella begged to just stay in and watch a movie for a change.
"I'll make a deal with you," Bella says.
"What deal?" Roman hums as Edward quickly refuses. "I'm not making any deals with you," he says.
"You haven't even heard what I'm offering," she complains.
"I think I have a bit of an idea," Roman whispers, lips tingling where they brush against Bella's bare skin. The girl shivers.
"Well, I was thinking that maybe... forget it. Never mind," Bella says, and she can feel her shake her head.
Pouting, she sits up a little bit so that she could see them both better. "What?"
"No, Roman, it's fine. Don't worry about it."
Edward sighs in defeat, head falling back to the pillows. "What is this deal?"
"Well, you see, I was thinking of Dartmouth, actually, and how maybe it wouldn't be so bad to actually do a semester at college even if I couldn't keep up with any of the fancy pants geniuses," Bella speaks softly, alluringly as if this was a true method of seduction.
"What?" Edward says, suddenly very serious. "You've been begging me for years to make you a vampire. Where did this come from?"
"I was just thinking that eighteen, nineteen, there isn't much of a difference," she says. "Besides, I have a reason to stay human now."
There's an odd feeling in the chest at that, this sort of heavy pressure that weighed in her lungs, forcing them down as she struggled to make sense of the conversation, trying to decide if it was real or if this was just another attempt.
She wasn't sure if she wanted to know the truth to that just yet, not when she had her mind made up from the moment that Bella had expressed her incredible intent and desire what felt like so long ago now.
"Why are you doing this?" Edward demands through his teeth, voice suddenly angry. "Is it not hard enough with all of this?" he grabs a handful of frilly lace. "It doesn't matter. I won't make any deals with you."
"I want to go to college."
"Bella..." Roman whispers, trailing off when she finds she has nothing to say.
It felt very much like Bella was on a one-person mission with one very clear goal in mind.
"No, you don't. And there is nothing that is worth risking your life again. That's worthhurting you."
"But I want to go. Well, it's not college as much as it's that I want—I want to behuman a little while longer."
He closed his eyes and exhaled through his nose. "You are making me insane, Bella. I can't possibly fathom what would cause for you to change your mind. Have you not always begged me to be a vampire?"
"Yes, but... well, I have a reason to be human that I didn't have before."
Roman can't help the way she flinches back at that, recoiling inward in a sudden flash of uncertainty in herself and her relationship and her life and all the decisions that she's ever made before.
"No, no, Roman, that's not what I meant," Bella's quick to say, shoving herself away from Edward as quickly as she could, taking her hands gently. "That's not what I meant, so please don't think, that, okay? I love every moment that I spend with you, alright?"
Bella presses harder, sliding her hands to her wrists and squeezing tight, a mischievous gleam in her eyes. Roman bites her lip, rolling it between her teeth.
"What I- you know how it feels to feel things as a human, how intense and consuming it could be. I want the chance to experience that a little while longer, to experience you both for a little while longer," She says, nodding to herself as she spoke.
"You I don't have to stay human just to feel like that, Bella," Roman whispers. "But if you want to push it off, I won't protest. I don't know what I'll do while you're both off at college, though."
"It doesn't matter. He's already refused anyway," Bella says with a yawn, sleepily blinking her eyes.
"You're tired. Sleep, love," Edward tells her, pulling her back to lie down. Roman follows, crawling to his other side so she could sap his cold. "You too, Roman, darling. You need to try and get more sleep."
"For as much as tired as I've been, you'd think I'd sleep better," she mumbles, laying against his chest and reaching a hand across to Roman.
"You haven't been sleeping well?" she asks, eyes narrowed as she inspects her wife's face closely.
"You've been sleeping like the dead, Bella. You haven't spoken a word since you got here and if it weren't for the snoring, I would assume that you were slipping into a coma," he says, voice adopting a tone of concern. "I would assume that Roman was the one not getting enough sleep. You have been restless every night, tossing and turning even while I hold her."
"Me? I've been great. I've had more energy than I've had for months, which is saying a lot," she assures him.
"That's weird. Normally when I have nightmares I'm all over the bed. And shouting."
"You've been having nightmares?"
"Vivid ones. I'm surprised I haven't been babbling about them all night."
He furrows his brows. "What are they about?"
Bella sighs, closing her eyes as recalls the memory. "They're mostly the same. The colours make them so real that I can't tell if I'm asleep. It's scary."
"What scares you, babe?" she asks, squeezing her fingers.
"Mostly..." she hesitates.
"What?" He prompts,
"The Volturi."
It's hard for her to form an appropriate reaction based on stories and second-hand encounters When all expressed the importance of fearing something she had never faced. It was like along her to fear the bogeyman or the monster under the bed, asking her to fear something that, for all intents and purposes, wasn't real and who had no idea that she even existed.
Roman didn't plan on letting them find her at a state that they would hate her in, regardless. She wanted to be a vampire when the time came because Edward always swore that a time would come that they would meet, and she wanted to seek them out before they left their homes in search.
"They aren't going to bother us anymore," he says, running a hand up and down Bella's spine. "You'll be immortal soon and they'll have no reason."
Roman watched her, watched the expression on her face, and knew that wasn't exactly what she was frightened of. It was something us, something quite different, that made her shudder at the thought of the Volturi.
Meeting her wife's eye, she smiles softly, reassuring to whatever it was that upset her, even if she couldn't quite understand.
"What can I do to help?" he asks, running his thumb over the furrow in her brow.
"They're just dreams, Edward."
"Do you want me to sing to you? I'll sing all night if it will help."
The offer sends energy kicking through her again, muscles tensing from a lack of movement, a lack of activity. She hid that thought from him the best she could, worried that he would just make them do more during the day when Bella was already so exhausted as it was.
"They're not all bad. Some are really nice with water and fish. They're all just so bright. Maybe it's just the island that's doing it."
Roman squeezes her fingers. "Do you want to go home?"
"No, no, can we stay?"
"We can stay as long as you want," Edward soothes softly.
"I could stay here forever," she says, stretching herself so she pressed closer against her.
"When does the semester start? I wasn't paying attention before," she says, eyes closed as she slowly begins to nod off.
She's asleep before either of them could answer -- not that Roman would actually know the answer. She was bitter about the college thing as it was since she didn't want to go. It was never part of the plan, and it left her feeling as if she was being isolated.
But it was only a possibility and she wasn't quite sure what they were actually going to do. If they ended up waiting, moving things along, then it woudln't be that much of a difference to the grand scheme of things.
Roman would wait as long as she needs for either of them.
"You aren't tired," Edward says, voice a soft whisper.
"I'm okay. I'll fall asleep soon."
"It's baffling that you're having such spurts of energy with how much you run around throughout the day."
"I'm just hyper form the excitement of being in a new place. I've just never had the chance to be somewhere as wonderful as this before."
He smiles, pulling her closer into his side, closer to Bella.
"I can take you anywhere that you want," he says, squeezing her hip. "We can see anything that you ever want."
She sighs dreamily. "All those maps. Can you imagine? And if I was to chart it by hand?"
"Your interest in cartography is adorable. My sweet cartographer."
"It's like the most interesting thing about me," she jokes, kissing his collar bone. "It's too late for you to back out of it now. You're stuck with me."
"There are worse things to be stuck with, Mrs. Elders-Cullen."
"Oh, how kind of you to put it that way, my loving husband."
He kisses the crown of her head and she can feel his smile pressed against.
"You have to try and sleep."
"Not tired yet. Want to keep talking to me until I fall asleep?" she asks, lifting her head a little to look at him. "I love the sound of your voice."
She wasn't sure when exactly she fell asleep of when she had become such a light sleeper in the first place, but it was like she was aware of everything that was going on around her, every instant and movement made in the bed.
It wasn't that big of a shift when she did wake, having been just at the surface, but she was more than aware of Bella's soft crying and Edward's feeble attempts at pushing her away.
Roman grins, knowing that it was no use when the girl got like this and rolled over a little. Edward was a gentleman, through and through, and he wouldn't dare leave one of his partners unattended for too long.
Even if he did, Bella was far too much of a greedy, passionate lover that there was no doubt that she would get dragged in eventually.
Besides, Roman could do with a little bit of relaxing beforehand. It'll all help her sleep better afterward, she was certain.
As if on queue, a dainty hand wrapped around her wrist and tugged hard, rolling her to her back as a weight settled on her hips.
Dark hair hung around her face illuminated by the pale moonlight and lips hovered over her own, parted slightly as they waited for her to catch up.
Her hands were pinned as she reaches up, cathing Bella's plump bottom lip between her teeth and sucking harshly as she guides her down. She swallows the whimper greedily, lips firm as they slide against hers, hungry and full wanting -- longing for something that was right there, that they could never get enough of.
Bella grinds her hips, rolling them against her. Roman curses.
"Are you awake now, my love?" Bella breathes against her lips, the sensation tingling and shooting through her as a fire burned just under her skin.
"Don't think I would ever be able to sleep through something like this, babe," Roman whispers, gasping when nails dig into her skin.
Cold pressed in closer, replacing the warm grip on her wrists and she gasps, Bella's hands travelling lower and lower. Her back arches, her pounding loud in her ears with the sound of her own breathing.
Bella's grin is wicked, victorious, with wet lashes that frame wild eyes that were so dark with the bare light.
Head falling back, Roman moans out, the sound carrying in the dark, and she succumbs to the touch.
