PERSONALITY
There are very few moments where you can catch Auryn without a smile or grin on his face- he's friendly and welcoming with a warm and happy-go-lucky disposition. He can find enjoyment and optimism in almost any meaningless task, and will hum along as he does crunches or goes on a run. The biggest critique his superiors had given him over the years was that he looked far too happy standing at attention. Guards were supposed to look intimidating and stoic, not smiling and winking at visitors to put them at ease. Fortunately for Auryn, he's dedicated and skilled enough for those in charge of hiring for the castle to overlook his little 'quirks.'
He's very forgiving, always believing that people can be better and grow from their mistakes. It often blindsides him to those who would take advantage of his good nature. He's a follower more than a leader, and finds fulfillment in helping other's reach their goals. He's genuine and kind- one of his favourite hobbies is connecting with others. When excited, Auryn is full of energy and bad ideas. He'll cheerfully run naked through the woods if his friends dare him to, and will return with his own mischievous ideas that are very prone to ending badly.
He hates serious conversations and does his best to lighten them with jokes- even in situations where that really isn't the best call. Dumb jokes are his specialty, and he'll fully commit to making a fool of himself if it'll get someone to smile. Auryn isn't the most mature, but there's almost something charming about his genuine smile and hopeful outlook on life.

- like most district six's, he can't swim
BRIEF BACKSTORY
Illegally hopping from one ring to another was a dangerous business with a high morality rate- perhaps that was why Marya and Bolin Lixue only found an infant baby alive, cradled in the arms of a frozen woman bleeding red onto the snow. Why the woman had chosen to move from the relative safety of a middle or inner ring to the outer one, Marya and Bolin would never know, but they buried the woman and took the boy to raise as their own.
The infant was so young that Marya announced to her job, family, and friends that she was already a few months pregnant, and retreated into her home. Childbirth in district six was a tricky thing- pregnant mothers needed a warm and safe environment to bring the child into the world with and many chose to play it safe, requesting that no other cursed visit during the length of the pregnancy. Marya took the opportunity of the extra months off work to feed the boy back to chubby-cheeked health, give him a name befitting his golden curls, and baby-proof the house and themselves. She was very careful to dress head to toe before even going near little Auryn- ski mask and all.
If anyone found it odd that baby Rynnie looked nothing like his father and had a genetically impossible eye colour, they said nothing. There were whispers, of course, of infidelity, and Marya lost a few friends- but she cared more for her child then a bunch of gossiping snobs, so she walked away from it all with her head held high.
As Auryn grew, his parents prayed that he wasn't a child from district eleven. All other curses they could handle, but absolute death and destruction... they didn't want to regret saving this happy, loving child. But they didn't have to worry for long.
Bolin worked down at the mines, and soon found that he could stop his sons crying by belting out one of his work songs used to pass the time in the dark and freezing caverns. Auryn would stop what he was doing and sit, rapt with attention as Bolin's baritone rumbled through him, giggling when he wiggled his eyebrows while holding an impressive note. Not soon after, Auryn would join in on his songs, changing the words to make them his own.
"i love my papa..."
was all he sang, but suddenly Bolin was overcome with an intense need to protect and serve Auryn, to do anything he wanted and asked for, because he loved him so much, this beautiful, darling boy who has never once fussed or cried- he would jump off a cliff if that was what his baby wanted-
The spell was broken when Marya returned home and demanded to know why Bolin had given Rynnie every cookie in the jar. From then on, they invested in noise-cancelling ear plugs and learned and taught Auryn the sign language spoken in district one. Until he could fully understand the danger of it, music and singing was punished in their house, and visitors were severely reduced.
Maybe it was the fact that he barely saw anyone other than his parents until he was six, but the moment he was allowed out of his house on his own, Auryn eagerly took to making friends. He was the type of kid who would wave and say hello to strangers on the street, running around the frozen roads and giving his parents heart-attacks. He had to be careful, always bundled up in layers even indoors- with the excuse that he was always cold- to prevent an accident where an ice-cursed kid touched him.
Auryn sat on his father's shoulders the first time he saw a district six warrior. She commanded the forces of wind and snow with barely a thought, felling dozens of actors and sending them flying through the air as though they were ragdolls. The warrior protected an ice sculpture of the queen at her back, twirling and diving as she took down an army of attackers with grace and strength. That was when Auryn realized he wanted that kind of strength and grace- that he wanted the kind of skill that could protect others.
Of course, Marya and Bolin had to ground his optimism- Auryn didn't have the curse that the warrior had, and would have to be twice as good at combat to be able to compete with those who did. Grappling and fighting other district six's could kill him if the wrong part of his skin was exposed. But Auryn was determined, and he trained hard and cautiously. Though his parents were worried about the truth of his curse coming out with a close proximity to the castle, Auryn promised he'd be careful. He was finally offered a placement as a castle guard when he was seventeen, and has been working hard to prove his worth there ever since.
OPINIONS ON CURRENT REGIME
He can't even imagine making all the decisions necessary to maintain balance over thousands of citizens- so the royals must be doing their best, aren't they? While sometimes their methods seem harsh, he believes them when they say the alternative would be much worse
OPINIONS ON OTHER DISTRICTS
Auryn really wished that travel between the districts was more lax- he wants to explore all the different climates, experience the cultures that each individual curse has fostered. He wants to meet people who are different (especially those from his biological district)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- his mother taught him to bake, and he loves to make things in the royal kitchen when he's allowed for his friends
- he loves to sing, but only does so when he's completely certain he's alone
- he's kind of touch-starved- yes, he had plenty of hugs growing up, but never skin-to-skin contact. He's never had a romantic relationship because he knows he can't touch anyone in his home district, and at the castle everyone thinks they can't touch him.
- he has a beautiful, smooth voice when he speaks that makes him seem more suave than he actually is
