Chapter 39
Humming gently to myself, I twirl a strand of hair around my finger, leaning into my couch with a soft smile as I snuggle under a blanket. The aura around my home is filled with excitement as my future sister - in - law, Fuyumi, is looking through baby pictures of Hiro with Rumi (who must be her girlfriend) while my mother - in - law, Rei, is giving my wedding dress final touches and making sure it's perfect. Every single one of us waiting for our food to arrive, our stomachs hungrily awaiting for its food.
With the boys over at the Todoroki estate doing who knows what, it left the girls to relax and just enjoy the rest of the evening. With Rei busying herself with making the final touches for the wedding, calling up the florist about our flower arrangements to make sure everything's okay, calling up the our cake designer and cake maker to make sure it'll be there at the appropriate time, calling the venue to arrange what time we'll be arriving, calling the caterers about the food and making sure everything isn't going terrible. If anything, she's a godsend, she's making sure that I'm not stressed for the big day which is amazing.
From time to time, the older Todoroki woman would be on the phone to her husband, making sure he's pulling his weight with everything he needs to sort out. Rei ended up making Enji sort out the chair arrangements, the tabling and who sits next to who, the rings, the after party and making sure that Toya doesn't combust into flames before our wedding day.
Unfortunately, it's against Todoroki tradition to see your future husband/wife from two days before your wedding until the actual wedding day. It's ridiculous, yes, but Rei would have my ass if I broke some stupid tradition.
So here I was, stuck at home without my fiance, stuck with my mother - in - law and sister - in - law with one of my bridesmaids. My eyes raking over my wedding dress, my stomach fluttering gently as I imagine myself in it. Excitement and impatience swirling in my veins. The dress was hanging on the back of the living room door, my heart squeezing with joy as I look toward it, watching as Rei begins to steam it gently, making sure that there are no folds nor are there any plucks in the fabric.
With the wedding rearing its head around the corner, Rei had gone into full momzilla mode. Hiro was only allowed to be dropped off by Enji or Natsuo or Shoto if he wanted to see me. Toya wasn't allowed to step foot into the home unless he wanted to 'bring bad luck to the marriage' in Rei's words by not following tradition. I don't think I've ever seen her be this scary in all my life.
Before Rei could begin fussing over the veil, the door goes making her grumble under her breath and walk toward the door. The woman opening it up to greet the delivery driver on the other side of the door, taking the takeout and paying before walking back in. Greedily, I slide my hand into the bag, only for it to be slapped away making me pout.
"No eating near the dress! Go to the dining room," Rei orders, pointing toward the dining room making me groan and trod to the table with Fuyumi and Rumi close behind, the two girls giggling toward me as I slump into my chair and grab placemats, "I don't want you ruining your dress before you even get into it, (Y/n), tomorrows going to be such a special day, do you really want curry sauce on your dress?"
"No, ma," I hum, grabbing the boxes from the bag and pulling the lids off, my stomach hungrily whining for the food as I greedily begin piling my plate up happily, "Thank you,"
"Have you got everything?" Rumi asks as she looks toward me, digging into her sushi with a smile, giggling as I try to catch the curry sauce dribbling down my chin, "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue? Have you got them?"
"My something old is my wedding dress," I begin, smiling gently toward Rumi who listens intently as I dig into my food, "Something new is my tiara and my something blue is the necklace Rei gave me at my bridal shower,"
"What about your something borrowed?" Fuyumi asks, tilting her head gently as she fiddles with her food, the girl smiling gently as I shrug, "I'm sure we'll find something,"
"Yeah, me too," I reply with a smile, gobbling down my delicious dinner while Rei sits beside me, eating her dinner too, "I can't believe it's tomorrow... it's gone so quick,"
"I know! It's so exciting! What's Hiro doing in it?" Fuyumi asks excited, the girl giggling happily as I smile brightly, "Is he and Eri got a special little role?"
"Yeah, I asked Shota nicely to borrow his daughter for the day and Eri will be our flower girl," I tell them, Fuyumi and Rumi squealing happily while cooing at the thought of little Eri throwing flowers on the aisle in a perfect little dress, "And Hiro will be our ring bearer,"
A fond smile plays on my lips as I remember taking Hiro to get himself a little suit. His blue eyes shimmering with excitement as he looked at himself in the reflection. Toya even got him a little flower to put in his breast pocket to match the bouquet I'll be walking down the aisle in. I don't think anyone is more excited than Hiro is. Toya had to hush him before the little boy could tell me about Toya's suit and I had to keep him quiet about my dress!
Hiro can't keep secrets to save his life!
"Who's the best man?" Rumi asks, fiddling with the end of her chopstick as I try to bite back a giggle, the girl staring at me with wide eyes, "No! He didn't!"
"He did, he wouldn't stop pestering Toya until he said yes," I tell them, giggling as the girls grin toward one another, a fond smile plays on my lips as I fiddle with my engagement ring, "God tomorrow's gonna be amazing,"
As the women around me nod happily, my phone begins to vibrate in my back pocket making me hum gently, apologising to them before excusing myself to leave the dining room. Quickly, I look toward my phone and suppress a giggle as I shoot upstairs to my room, shutting the door behind me before pressing the green button and holding it to my ears, the giggle leaving my lips as I hear the caller on the other end chuckle to himself.
Smiling gently, I lock the door to prevent Rei from barging in, and relax against the door as Toya quickly makes himself known on the phone. I could hear the grin radiating off his laugh.
After all, it wasn't the first time we've snuck past Rei and Enji.
Unfortunately, due to this stupid tradition, not only are Toya and I not allowed to see each other but we weren't allowed to talk to each other either. It's ridiculous! You can't expect a bride and groom to keep away from each other for that long! So here we were, going behind Rei and Enji to talk, to help quench our nerves.
"Hey baby, how are you?" Toya asks, I could hear the smile on his lips as I slide into my bed and lean against the headboard happily, my stomach bursting into butterflies, "Mom hasn't been too overbearing has she? I know she can be quite controlling when she wants to be,"
"I'm okay, Toya, I just can't wait to see you," I hum gently, drawing circles on the bedsheets in my lap, smiling gently as I hear him chuckle gently, "Ma's been okay... she won't let me even breathe near my new wedding dress unless I want to walk down the aisle in a shower curtain but I have Fuyumi and Rumi to mellow her out for me if I need it. How's Hiro? Is he okay? How's your dad being?"
"The kids fine, he's causing havoc as per usual," he replies chuckling, making me giggle with him as I think of all kinds of trouble Hiro could be causing for Enji, "The old man isn't actually being as bad as I thought, the only thing he's worried about at the moment is me bursting into flames,"
"Not talking to me then?" I ask with a smile, giggling when I hear him scoff under his breath, I could sense he was rolling his eyes too, "Going against family tradition?"
"It's a stupid tradition, I've made my feelings about it quite clear to the old man too," He replies with a hum, the male clearing his throat as he takes a deep breath, "I wanted to talk to you... make sure you weren't getting cold feet..."
"Babe, why would I get cold feet?" I ask him, my smile faltering as I hear his breath hitch gently, "Toya?... What's wrong?... are you okay?"
"Yeah... I'm okay," he hums gently, biting my lip I look toward my alarm clock and take a deep breath, "Don't worry,"
"Open your bedroom window, I'll be there in five," I tell him, smiling gently as I hear him chuckle gently before letting me know when it's open, "Make sure I can get through it too,"
Taking a deep breath, I hang up and quickly unlock my bedroom door, I grab some pillows from Hiro's room and stuff them under my bedsheet to make it look like there's someone asleep under there. Hoping it's enough to fool Rei, I take a deep breath and open my bedroom window, slipping out of it with a hum and shutting it behind me before flying through the air to head to my fiancé's bedroom window. A giggle leaving my lips as I notice my boyfriend waiting by the window.
The male chuckles gently, grinning playfully as I slip into his bedroom and wrap my arms around his neck, kissing his cheek as he buries his head into my neck, taking a deep breath. I smile softly, running my fingers over his back and gently into his hair, smiling as he kisses up my neck, along my jaw and then pressing a final one to my lips making me giggle gently.
"What's wrong?" I ask gently, cupping his chin and gently rubbing my thumb over his heel making him hum gently and lean into it, "Wheres my happy boyfriend who likes setting things on fire?"
"That's not all I like to do baby," he says with a chuckle, kissing my nose as I stick my tongue out toward him with a small hum, Toya's hands slide up my hips and rest themselves on my arms as he takes a deep breath, "Just... worried,"
"About what?" I ask gently, sending him a reassuring smile as his eyes flick away from me before flitting back toward me, my stomach does an uneasy somersault as I sit down on his bed and pull him into me, letting him rest his head on my stomach and lay down in between my legs as I run my fingers through his hair, "Talk to me Toya,"
"Just... are you... are you sure you wanna marry me?..." he asks gently, looking up at me with a small sigh making me smile weakly toward him before kissing his forehead as I poke his nose, "I wanna know that you're happy..."
"Toya, you're adorable," I coo gently, giggling as he pouts toward me with a small whine as I ruffle his hair, the male sits up gently and kisses my forehead as I smile toward him, "Toya, I love you. I'm so happy with you and I can't see myself being any happier. Yes, you haven't been around for five years and yes, your father isn't the nicest of people but he's getting better and yes, my dad is being a stickler about our relationship but I wouldn't have it any other way... it doesn't matter what they all think, as long as we're happy and as long as we're in love, we'll be okay
We have a beautiful little boy who's the most sweetest little angel ever, who I love with all my being. We are going to have the best wedding ever tomorrow because we're perfect for each other. Tomorrow, I'm gonna walk down that aisle knowing that I made the best decision ever... knowing that going through all that shit is worth it because I'm still with you and I finally get to have my dream of being your wife... don't ever think you're not good enough for me because you are, okay?"
"God, if I had tear ducts I'd cry," Toya hums with a choked chuckle, pulling me into his arms and rocking us as I snuggle into his arms, the male kissing my forehead as I rest against him, "God I love you..."
"I love you too, Toya," I hum, kissing his cheek with a smile before pulling away as I hear footsteps nearby, the little patter of feet making me giggle gently as a tiny little knock erupts at the door making me whisper, "Is that Hiro?"
"Daddy? Can we have cuddles now? I ate all my dinner, even my veggies! Mama's gonna be so proud!" Hiro says from the other side of the door making Toya chuckle to himself, the male rolling his eyes playfully as I clench my chest and whine at how cute my son is, "Oh! And Uncle Natsuo asked if you wanna draw on Uncle Shoto's face? Uncle Sho is sleeping after having his grape juice,"
"That sounds intriguing, bud, come in," Toya hums, chuckling as Hiro toddles in and shuts the door behind him before gasping as his eyes fall on me, the boy about to squeal in happiness until Toya covers his mouth and shushes him gently, "Mama's not supposed to be here, bud, so don't tell anyone,"
"Hey baby," I coo, giggling as he runs into my open arms and hugs me tightly, a smile plays on my lips as I rub his back and kiss his nose, "Are you being good for papa? What have you been up to?"
"Uh huh, papa said that I'm an angel," Hiro says with a bright smile, giggling as Toya rolls his eyes and ruffles his hair, "We were making cookies, we're gonna ice them when they cool down and have them at the wedding!"
"That sounds great baby, I can't wait to have them," I tell him, smiling as he snuggles into my chest and rests his head on my shoulder, Toya smiling gently as he takes a quick picture on his phone making me stick my tongue out, "Excited for tomorrow? Are you excited to see mama in her dress? Excited to see Eri - chan?"
"Uh huh! I even made her a picture!" Hiro says with a giggle, wriggling out of my arms before teetering to his little suitcase and setting the paper in my lap, the boy pointing at each person, "That's me and Eri! She's in a dress like yours mama!"
Biting back a whine, I look toward Toya who chuckle and ruffles his hair. Why is my child so adorable?! Hiro giggles gently and kisses my cheek before placing his picture back in its place, the boy squealing as Toya picks him up, throwing him into the air before kissing his nose. The little boy giggling as he clings into his father happily.
"I better get going before Ma finds out I ran off," I tell Toya, kissing his cheek gently before kissing my sons nose softly, "Be good for daddy, baby boy, I love you,"
"Love you more mama, to the moon and back!" Hiro says with a giggle, kissing my cheek before snuggling into Toya as I kiss my future husband gently, the little boy pouting, "Daddy! You're not supposed to kiss mama until tomorrow!"
"Sorry baby, you're mama's too beautiful," Toya says, sitting on his bed with his back against the headboard before looking toward me and smiling, "See you tomorrow gorgeous, I love you,"
"I love you too," I hum, winking toward him before running my fingers through my hair and activating my quirk, slipping out of the window, "Sweet dreams baby,"
Giggling gently, I shut the window and wave toward the pair before zooming across the sky, pushing myself up high before deactivating my quirk and dropping myself down. Activating my quirk at the last second, I zoom into my room, quickly change into my nightclothes and walk downstairs. Pretending to be a little groggy, Rei sending me a small sympathetic smile, oblivious to my little escape.
"Just finished your dress honey, it's ready for tomorrow, did you enjoy your nap?" She asks, pulling me into her arms as I snuggle into her with a giggle, "I can't believe you're gonna be my daughter - in - law soon! Ooh! I can't wait!"
"I had a great nap," I hum, smiling toward her as she pulls away and kisses my forehead before skipping into the kitchen, biting my lip as Fuyumi and Rumi stare at me with arched brows, "What?..."
"You went to see Toya," Fuyumi says, giggling when I gawk at her and slam the living room door shut so Rei doesn't hear, "Wonder how I know?"
"Yes!" I hiss, telling her to keep it down while Rumi bursts into a fit of laughter, holding her stomach as she squeals, "Rumi! Don't laugh!"
"We didn't know! We just assumed and we were right! Oh this is hilarious!" Rumi squeals with a giggle, the female then grinning toward me playfully as she sticks her tongue out, "We're you getting in some pre - wedding fun~"
"No! Rumi! Shhh! Just don't tell Ma!" ...
"Don't tell me what?"...
"That... uh... Rumi got sauce on her dress!"...
