Chapter 28

The sun flitting through the cracks of my blinds pulls me out of my sleep, a small exhausted groan leaving my lips as my eyes flutter open. A small hiss leaving my lips as I go to sit up, my head leaning against the headboard when I push myself to sit. A yawn echoes around the room as I stretch my good arm over my head, my eyes lazily trying to pick themselves up to keep me awake. The burn softly licking my nerves making me whine gently. Every time I try to move it, a small shot of pain stabs through my body. And the bandages often rubbed against the burn too if they weren't on properly... which wasn't the best thing in the world.

The burn wasn't as awful as it had been when I first got it. It's beginning to heal, slightly. Still, it hurts whenever I move and it's a pain to have a shower or a bath with a huge burn... but it's better than what it was. Which is a good thing! I know it'll stay with me. It won't ever go away. We all knew that. It'll scar. It'll stay with me forever.

And Dabi wasn't so happy about that...

Ever since the incident of Enji burning me, Dabi has been overkill with Hiro and I. He's on me constantly. Making sure that I'm comfortable, covering me in blankets whenever I get too cold before snuggling up to me. He's been taking Hiro too and from his play dates with Eri (and she's come over a couple of times with Mirio and Tamaki too). He cooks now, teaching himself how to make certain dishes and getting Fuyumi to help him every so often. He won't even let me go to the toilet without him being outside my door just in case I hurt myself. He's doing the cleaning too! And I never thought that would happen.

He was becoming a little house husband.

A small groan cuts through the air beside me making me giggle and look toward the male in question. Beside me, snoring softly into the pillow and a small stream of drool leaving his lips, laid Dabi. The scarred male snuggling into my leg as he hums gently in his sleep, his eyes twitching every so often. His fingers lightly grazing against my thigh as he rests his cheek on my upper thigh, snuggling into me. Stirring gently in his sleep before relaxing and going back to his soft and steady breathing. He almost looked at ease. So peaceful. The intimidating persona he had cracked away into who I knew as Toya. Slowly, but surely, Toya was becoming Toya again and further away from Dabi... not in all aspects.

There are some times where Dabi really comes out~

Smiling gently, I run my fingers through his hair, his red roots beginning to show again as I do so. The male beside me stirring gently, his turquoise blue eyes fluttering open as he clears his throat. A small smile on his lips as he meets my eyes, the male gently kissing my knuckles before sitting up and kissing me gently. A giggle leaving my lips as I kiss back, pulling away with a loving smile toward my boyfriend.

"Good morning," I hum gently, resting our foreheads together, smiling with a giggle as he intertwines our hands together, our fingers interlinking, a grin playing on my lips as I notice his hair is all over the place, "Loving the bed hair,"

"Morning, baby girl," he hums, smiling to himself before kissing my cheek, "You sleep okay? No discomfort?"

"Hey, don't worry, I'm okay," I reply, rubbing my thumb over his cheek, giggling gently as he presses a kiss to my cheek, "You'll go grey if you keep worrying,"

"You'd like that wouldn't you?" Dabi hums with a chuckle, sliding out of bed, biting back a laugh as he notices me biting my lip as I admire the love bites scattered across his chest and back that I may have left the other night, "Like something you see?"

"Mhm," I reply with a giggle, blushing gently as he runs his fingers through his hair and winks my way.

"Are you two ready for — Dabi, could you put a shirt on please? Hiro is about to come in with your breakfast," My Father asks walking in and opening the door, Dabi hurriedly putting a shirt on making me squeal with laughter, leaning against the headboard with a giggle before flushing embarrassed as my dad looks toward me, "Do you have to mark him like that? You're not an animal,"

"Dad!?" I shriek embarrassed, covering my face as he chuckles gently shaking his head, "Oh my god! Why would you say that?!"

My father rolls his eyes and blows a raspberry toward me as I send him a massive point. The prior number one hero opening the door wider for his grandson to toddle into the bedroom. A bright smile on his lips as he teeters in holding a tray with pancakes. My father smiling gently toward Hiro as the little boy beams my way.

"Hey little man, what did you make mama for breakfast?" Dabi hums as Hiro toddles toward the bed, holding the tray toward me and giggles when I pull the tray away to place onto my lap before Dabi picks him up and sits him beside me, both of us kissing his cheeks, "What about daddy? Where's daddy's breakfast?"

"Daddy can make his own," Hiro says with a giggle, squealing with laughter as Dabi picks him up and tickles him, the little redhead squealing and wriggling in his grasp as Dabi tickles his sides, "Daddy! I gonna pee! Stop!"

"Thank you baby boy," I hum, pulling him into a hug and kiss his nose, letting him snuggle into my side before I dig into my breakfast, humming in delight, "Mmm! They're delicious, sweetie! Thank you!"

"You ready to see your grandma today?" Dad asked Hiro, chuckling as he notices Hiro's eyes light up at the mention of his grandmother.

"Yeah! We got her a present!" Hiro says with a grin, giggling toward Dabi as he gulps nervously, "Daddy's nervous though!"

"I can't tell you anything can I?" Dabi says with a chuckle, ruffling his sons hair. The scarred male opening the wardrobe to pick out his clothes before biting his lip nervously and looking toward me, "What do I wear?"

"It's your mom, babe," I reply softly, running my fingers through my sons hair as I watch Dabi file through his wardrobe and groan in frustration, "Babe, deep breaths, you're overthinking,"

"Just go for a simple shirt and jean combo," My father suggests, leaning against the doorway with a hum, "You don't have to wear anything too fancy, I'm sure your mother will be more than happy to see you than worry about what you're wearing,"

"How about you wear the white shirt with your black jeans?" I suggest with a smile, thanking my father as he takes the tray downstairs, Hiro giggling as I cover his eyes so Dabi can change without having to deal with questions about the hickeys covering his body, "See you look great baby, doesn't daddy look great Hiro?"

"Yeah!" Hiro says giggling, jumping into Dabi's arms who happily takes him into his arms and kisses his cheek with a hum.

Today, if you haven't already gathered, was the day that Dabi is reunited with his mother. The one thing he's been dreading since he got back to normal life. He's even tried putting it off as much as possible. Worried about how it would go. Growing more and more of a nervous wreck. He didn't want to let his mom down. He didn't want to scare her. Nervous about how his mother would take in his new appearance. He didn't want his mother to shun him, to reject him in anyway.

And I don't think Rei is even capable of doing that.

Rei would have given up her right arm to have Toya back. Toya and Rei has a special mother and son connection. Rei often said the bond between Hiro and I was a lot like hers and Toya's. Rei loves all her children, of course she does, but Toya was her first born. Her baby. She was devastated when she heard the news. She wasn't even at home. She was at the hospital and found out through the doctors what happened...

Then when I fell pregnant, she wouldn't let me go a week without seeing her. I held her sons child. Her grandchild. She and I developed a mother/daughter relationship (something I never had growing up) and we've been so close ever since. I've grown closer to every Todoroki (apart from Enji).

Rei would be over the moon to see Toya. I knew that for a fact.

A small smile plays on my face as Dabi helps me change into one of his shirts and some jeans. Pressing a soft kiss to his cheek, I turn toward the mirror to run a brush through my hair before heading to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth. Dabi downstairs with Hiro, helping his son put his shoes and coat on. My father smiles softly as he leans against the doorway of the bathroom, his eyes roaming the burn making me send him a small smile.

"I still can't get over that..." He says with a sigh; shaking his head as he neatens my hair kissing my forehead, "Why would he do that to you?..."

"Dad, I'm okay," I reassure him, kissing his cheek with a smile, hugging him softly, "You relax, okay? Don't stress and no helping out your little successor today, it's a rest day. And I'll find out if you do help him because I'll have Shoto on speed dial,"

"Yes ma'am," He says with a chuckle kissing my forehead as I pick up the bag full of presents for Rei, "Have fun,"

"I'll try," I tell him, smiling before heading toward the pair waiting by the door, slipping into my shoes before opening the door and letting Hiro skip to the car. I wave goodbye to dad before heading to the car with Dabi. The scarred male digging his nails nervously into his palms as we buckle into the car, "Breathe baby,"

Dabi nods gently, looking out the window as I pull out the driveway and drive toward the hospital. The male taking a deep breath as he wrings his hands together, his fingers going for his staples before pulling away when I hold his hand. I give his hand a small reassuring squeeze. The male smiling weakly my way before looking through the windscreen. Resorting to bouncing his leg nervously, his knee tapping against his hand, gulping softly.

Only recently, about three days ago, Dabi has been off house arrest. Now being able to leave the house, without being tied down. Sure, he's still kept a close eye on by my father from time to time but other than that, he's okay. Able to take Hiro out, take him to the park or to play dates without worrying about being stopped by a hero.

Which is always a bonus?

As I park up at the hospital; Dabi tenses up. His eyes full of worry as I switch the engine off and unbuckle the seatbelt. Hiro happily smiling and dancing in his chair as I look toward the scarred male. Dabi sighing gently to himself as he looks at his hands in his lap. Internally debating with himself on whether or not he should actually go in.

"You'll be okay," I reassure him, kissing his cheek gently with a smile, watching him nod softly, "You know what would make you worse? If you didn't do this..."

"Yeah... I know..." Dabi hums, taking a deep breath before pushing himself out the car, helping Hiro out of his booster seat while I grab the bag full of presents before looking the car, "No turning back now I guess..."

"You have Hiro and I with you, you'll be okay," I tell him with a reassuring smile, intertwining our fingers together before walking into the hospital, quickly signing us in, before heading toward Rei's room. The closer we were getting to the room, the more hot and sweaty Dabi's palms became, "Deep breaths,"

Hiro giggles gently and knocks on the door, grinning from ear to ear. Excited to see his grandmother after not being able to see her for so long. Bouncing on the balls of his feet before jumping up and down as he hears Rei says 'come in' from the other side of the door. I look toward Dabi, who bites his lip, the male shaking his head. Nodding gently, I open the door, letting Hiro scurry in with a squeal.

"Grandma!" Hiro squeals, jumping into his grandmothers arms who happily pulls him into her lap and covers him with kisses, "Missed you!"

"I missed you too, sweetie," Rei coos, kissing his nose making him giggle and scrunch it up, her grey eyes looking toward my form leaning against the doorway, "I hope you're both okay? Natsuo and Fuyumi told me you weren't feeling all that good for the past couple weeks,"

"We're alright, Mrs Todoroki," I reply with a smile, setting the bag of presents down on her bed before looking toward the open door, "How have you been, Mrs Todoroki?"

"Sweetie, I've told you many times to call me Rei or mom," She says with a smile, running her fingers through Hiro's hair, "I've been alright, missed you both like crazy... no Shoto with you today?"

"No, uh... we've brought someone else," I begin, taking a shaky breath as I look toward the open door. Knowing full well, Dabi was behind it, "Someone we think you'll appreciate seeing,"

"Oh? Who is it?" She asks softly, giggling softly as Hiro pouts and slides off her lap and heads to the door, "It's not Enji is it?"

"Oh, no! No! Don't worry, it's not Enji," I reassure her, giggling gently as Hiro stares at Dabi. An adorable frown on his face and his arms crossed over his chest, "Someone else,"

"Well come on, daddy! We don't have all day!" Hiro commands, Rei giggling gently as she watches Hiro grab his fathers wrist and tries to pull him in. Dabi brings incredibly stronger than the five year old boy, "Daddy! Move your butt!"

"Daddy?" Rei asks looking toward me confused, the cogs in her brain whirring as she looks toward the door, "(Y/n), who is it?"

"It's... it's Toya... Rei," I reply, watching as her breath hitches, her eyes glued to the door as Dabi stumbles in once Hiro catches him off guard. The scarred male gulping as he stands up, brushing himself down before staring at Rei who stares back with wide eyes, "I know he looks different but... it's still him..."

"Is that really you?..." she murmurs, pushing herself to her feet and walking toward Dabi who tenses slightly, staring at his mother with wide eyes as she cups his cheek and rubs it with her thumb, looking into his eyes before smiling gently. Small tears grouping in the corner of her eyes, "It really is you..."

"Hey... mom..." Dabi says softly, staring at her slightly before being engulfed into a massive hug by his mother. Rei holding onto him tightly and crying into his chest as he pulls her tightly to him and kisses her head, "It's okay... it's okay..."

"Thank god you're okay," she says, smiling up at him before completely turning and hitting him upside the head and pulling him down to her level by his ear, "What the hell were you thinking?! Hm! Leaving her like that with your child! That poor girls been through hell and back!"

"Ah! Mom! God, I forgot how strong your grip was! Ow!" Dabi winces, whining toward his mom as she gives him an earful. Hiro standing there shrieking with laughter and clapping his hands, "Ow! Okay! Okay! I'm sorry! Didn't mean to scare you!"

"You better be! Now you count your lucky stars she's even giving you a second chance, you treat her like a queen," Rei lectures him, a small giggle leaving my lips as Dabi wriggles under her grip. For a small woman, she had one hell of a grip, "If I find out you fuck up, don't think I won't come for you, understood?"

"Yes mom! Can you let go? Please!" Dabi whines, sighing in relief as Rei lets go, pressing an apologetic kiss to his forehead before sitting back down and cuddling with Hiro. The scarred male rubbing his ear, "God, that hurt,"

"Well you shouldn't have left should you?"...

"Mom, seriously?"...

"You have a lot of explaining to do, mister,"...
