Sadie's POV
I stood in the lobby of the block of flats I call home, waiting for Logan to pick me up.
Yes, it was the day that I left the city for the first time in 3 years, yet Logan was late.
He told me to meet him in lobby at half past seven. It's quarter to eight, and I'm still standing here alone. During those fifteen minutes, I had counted the amount of cigarette buds lying on the floor and checked my mailbox a million times.
I heard a honk and looked up. I saw Logan's car, but Isaac was in the driver's seat. He got out of the car and jogged towards me.
"Where's Logan?" I asked as he took my luggage from me.
"Long story short, Logan had to wait for Faye to bring her family's old combi, so he asked me to pick you up." he said with a smile as he put my stuff in the trunk.
"Oh okay," I said and we got into his car.
"So, any news from your brother about Finley?" he asked as he pulled into the road.
"Uh yeah, they had their check-ups yesterday and the doctor said that everything is okay at the moment." I said.
"That's good," he said, turning the corner.
Logan's apartment could be seen in the distance. I saw Faye and Logan standing by the mint green combi, they were putting luggage in the trunk. Isaac parked Logan's car in the usual parking slot and we both got out.
"Sadie!" Faye screamed, running towards me – as if I hadn't seen her yesterday.
"Faye," I laughed as she tackled me.
I stumbled backwards into Isaac, causing the three of us to tumble over like dominoes.
"Faye..." Isaac grunted from underneath me.
"Oh come on, I'm not that heavy." she teased and got up, helping me up.
I held out my hand for Isaac. He took it and smiled. I helped him up and we finished unloading my luggage.
"I'll go put this is there," Isaac said, pointing to the combi.
"Let me help," I said, grabbing one of my two bags.
"No, it's fine. I'm pretty strong, you know?" he said, flexing a little.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Boys and their egos," I said.
He cocked his eyebrows at me and smiled.
"We're known for it." he said and walked toward the combi.
I chuckled, turning to Logan.
"Hey, sorry I didn't pick you up." he said, wrapping his arms around me.
"It's okay, Logan. And is it just me, or are you only hugging me to warm yourself up? " I asked, giggling a little.
He smiled at me, the dimples appearing again and pulled away.
"Maybe. Come, I want to show you something." he said, grabbing my hand and dragging me toward the combi.
"Look inside," he said.
I did what he said and looked inside.
It was beautiful.
I climbed inside and walked around. It looked very different to the common combi. There were only one row of comfy seats, and rest of the combi consisted of a bunch of pillows and blankets. It was basically a big bed.
"Faye, Isaac and I decided to turn the back into a bed during senior year after we had an incident on a trip." Logan explained.
"What happened?" I asked.
He shrugged and ran his fingers through his hair.
"We forgot to fill the tank, so we ran out of fuel in the middle of the night. We had to sleep on the very uncomfortable seats. Isaac slept on the luggage so Faye wouldn't have to, so we decided to change the combi around in case that happened again." he said.
I nodded and looked around again. It was so cosy. Everything was quilted, the pillows, the interior and the seats were so soft.
"It's so homey," I gushed, picking up one of the folded up blankets.
"So soft," I whispered, holding it close to my face.
"Hey, Isaac. Get a look at Sadie!" Faye laughed as she opened the trunk of the combi, which was still there.
Isaac appeared at the back of the combi and laughed at the sight of me.
"I think she's in love," Isaac laughed.
"I thought you liked being single!" Faye yelled.
I laughed and placed the blanket down.
"Let's just get going, it's freezing." Logan said, wrapping his arms around himself trying to warm up.
"Everyone got everything?" Isaac asked as he got into the passenger seat.
"Yep," Faye and I said.
We slid the combi door closed and Logan started the engine. Isaac reached for the radio and switched it on. The Nights by Avicii came on. Faye and I started jiving in the back. After a while of driving, Faye was texting her boyfriend over the phone, Logan and Isaac were having an intense conversation about which car was faster, a Ferrari or a Mustang, and I was staring out of the window with my earphones in my ears.
"Sadie?"
"Sadie!"
I jumped and looked to Isaac, who was turned around in his seat and chuckling at me. I took the earphones out of my ears and smiled at him.
"Yes?" I asked.
"Please pass a blanket," he asked.
I looked around and picked up the closest blanket. I handed it to him .
"Don't we have heater in here?" I asked.
Isaac shook his head.
"Nah it broke years ago, thanks by the way." he said and turned around.
I smiled and looked around. I was still tired from waking up so early, considering I went to bed at 4 a.m. this morning. I grabbed a blanket and a quilted pillow. I kicked off my uggs and cuddled into the corner of the sofa-like seat. I put my earphones back into my ears, The Scientist playing softly in my ears as I dozed off.
~&~
"Sadie? Sadie?"
Someone was shaking me by the shoulder. I slowly opened my eyes, looking up to see Logan hovering over me. He smiled down at me and brushed my hair out of my face.
"You drool, you know?" he chuckled.
My eyes widened. My hands shot to my mouth to find it dry.
"Got you! Come on, bathroom break." he said, chuckling.
I scowled at him and got up. I put my uggs back on and got out the combi.
"I don't need the bathroom, I'll just watch the combi." I said.
"You sure?" Faye asked me, Isaac at her side.
I nodded.
"Yep," I said.
Faye nodded and they made their way to the bathrooms. I watched as Isaac and Logan raced to the bathroom and ran inside, Faye going at her own pace. I heard a bunch of girly screams then Isaac and Logan ran outside, looking like they had just seen a ghost. Faye fell over laughing and I couldn't help, but laugh. And it only got funnier once an old lady came out of the ladies bathroom, running after the boys with her handbag. She hit Isaac on the head and lunged for Logan, but they both shoved each other in the men's bathroom, laughing while they did so. Faye high-fived the old lady and they entered the ladies bathroom.
I shook my head, laughing and sat down in the passenger seat. I checked my phone to see a message from Connor.
Hope you're having loads of fun
Connor xoxo
I smiled and replied.
Hey.
Isaac and Logan just walked into the ladies bathroom by accident.
It was hilarious. Love you.
Sadie xx
I put my phone away and looked up. Isaac, Logan and Faye were on their way back. I quickly jumped out of the passenger seat and climbed into the back of the combi.
"Who's driving?" Logan asked.
"I am," Faye said.
"Cool," he said.
Logan got into the passenger seat and Isaac got into the back with me.
"Don't fall asleep on me, Sads." he said, tugging on my blanket.
"Okay, I won't. What do you want?" I asked him, untucking my head from the pillow and sitting in way that I was facing him and leaning against the side of the combi with my back.
He smiled at me and did the same, stretching his long legs out on the sofa-like seats.
"I want to chat," he said with a smile.
I laughed.
"Well, obviously, but about what?" I asked.
"How about the fact that you snore?" he asked me.
I gaped at him and threw a pillow at him.
"I most definitely do not snore!" I yelled.
"Yes, you do!" Faye laughed from the driver's seat, Logan laughing with her.
I huffed and turned to Isaac.
"I don't!" I yelled again, but this time blushing like a beetroot.
Logan and Faye were laughing their heads off in the front seats, while Isaac just looked at me, smiling.
Did he really like me?
I pushed the thoughts out of my head and looked back to Isaac. He was already looking at me.
I smiled at him then looked out of the window. I could hear Faye tampering with the radio, trying to find some good music. She stopped when Sing by Ed Sheeran came blasting through the speakers. I saw Logan smiling and bobbing his head in the review mirror and Isaac was jamming to the music too. I smiled to myself and looked out of the mirror again.
I need you darling
Come on set the tone
If you feel you're falling
Won't you let me know
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
If you love me
Come on, get involved
Feel it rushing through you
From your head to toe
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Oh-Oh-Oh-Ooh-Oh
Sing!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (x2)
Louder!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (x2)
Sing!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh (x2)
I smiled and looked over to Isaac. He noticed me looking and held out his hand. I gave him my hand and we began to dance.
Yes, we were dancing in mint green combi.
~&~
I woke up, not even realising I had fallen asleep, and all I could think about was how much I needed the bathroom.
"Guys, when is the next bathroom break?" I asked, looking to my right, noticing it was Faye sitting beside me and no longer Isaac.
How long was I out?
Faye laughed and shook her head.
"Well, I'm not surprised. You slept through 2 other bathroom breaks. We're stopping at one now, so you can go then." she said.
I sat up and yawned.
"Did the boys run into the ladies room again?" I asked, eyeing a sleeping Isaac in the front seat.
Faye laughed and shook her head.
"No, but you should've seen them when they approached the bathrooms. They literally walked up to the door and stared at the men's sign, as if they were just waiting for it to turn into the ladies." she laughed.
"Hey, hey, in my defence, I didn't want to get hit with a handbag. This poor guy probably has brain damage!" Logan said from the front seat.
"Whatever, it was still hilarious." Faye mumbled.
I giggled.
"We're here!" Logan exclaimed, waking poor Isaac up.
"Huh?" he sat up and looked around.
"Sorry," Logan apologized and parked his car.
Everyone, but Logan, piled out of the combi and made our way to the bathrooms. Faye and I entered the bathroom and both chose a stall.
"No toilet paper?" Faye asked.
"Nope," I said.
We both came out and looked in every other stall.
Nada.
"Okay, I'm going to get some from who-knows-where," she said and left me alone in the bathroom.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror and nearly screeched. My hair looked like a nest and my lipstick was smudged.
Maybe I do drool?
I huffed and used some of the tap water to get it off. I ran my fingers through my hair to calm it down, but ended making it worse.
"Oh humbug," I muttered and wet my hands, hoping that it would work better if I wet my hair.
"Bad hair day?" a deep voice asked.
I spun around to see Isaac standing there, leaning against the wall.
"What are you doing? This is the ladies!" I scolded him.
He smirked.
"I know," he said.
"Are you crazy or something?" I asked him, placing my hands on my hips.
He chuckled and shook his head.
"No, I'm not crazy. I just doing stupid things." he said, shoving his hands in his pockets and walked toward me.
"Oh bother," I said, trying to get the tangles out of my hair.
"Here, let me." he said, but halted before he could get to me.
"What is it?" I asked, slightly panicking.
Isaac shoved me into a stall. He pushed me against the wall and rushed to latch the door.
"What are you..." I said, but Isaac's hand covered my mouth.
I heard shuffling in the stall beside me and then a huff.
"No toilet paper," a voice huffed.
My eyes widened and I grabbed Isaac's hand and took it off my mouth. We remained deadly silent and kept completely still. I was still pushed up against the stall's interior with Isaac towering over me. We both hoped she wouldn't knock on our door, but unfortunately luck wasn't on our side today.
"Do you have any toilet paper?" she asked.
I turned my head towards the door.
"No, sorry." I said
The stranger lady huffed and walked to the mirror. I looked to Isaac and saw him smiling at me.
I had to suppress my laugh, just thinking about the situation we were in made me crack up.
"Wait – what are you doing in there if you don't have any toilet paper?" the stranger lady asked.
I gaped at Isaac then turned to the door again.
"Um, waiting for my friend. She's bringing some." I said.
My cheeks were heating up because of the position Isaac and I were in. I looked to Isaac and noticed he was smirking at me.
"Maybe you're friend is lost?" stranger lady said.
"No, she'll be here any minute." I said, trying to think of a way to get her to get out of the bathroom.
"I know how to get rid of her," he said, as if reading my mind.
"How?" I asked him quietly.
He smirked and then cocked an eyebrow at me. I didn't get it at first, but when I did I let out a laugh. Isaac quickly covered my mouth with his hand.
"What's so funny?" stranger lady asked.
"Oh n-nothing, just thinking about a joke." I said.
I looked back to Isaac. He was still smirking at me.
"We can't do that, that's weird." I said, trying not to laugh.
He kept smirking at me, but remained silent. That is, until he leaned in and buried his head in the crook of my neck and let out a deep moan and slapped his hand against the wall beside me. I gasped at the sudden gesture and shoved him away from me, trying not to laugh. He crashed into the wall opposite me and let out a grunt.
"Are you alright in there?" she asked me.
"Yes, I'm fine!" I said.
"Are you sure?" she asked, leaning against the door.
"Perfect!" I said.
"I'll bet," Isaac said, loud enough for the lady to hear.
"Is there a man in there with you?" she asked, sounding rather disgusted.
"No,"
"Yes,"
I looked at Isaac, trying to cover up my giggles.
"Ignore her, come here." Isaac said, pulling me flush against him, making me gasp again since I wasn't expecting it.
"Oh, disgusting teenagers!" they lady screeched and ran out of the bathroom.
Isaac let me go and we doubled over laughing. I stopped laughing when my stomach starting getting sore and looked at Isaac.
"I have never done this before," I said.
He chuckled and shook his head.
"I did this all the way through high school," he said.
I laughed.
"What, making out with a girl in a bathroom stall or scaring away women?" I asked.
"Hey, that's offensive. No women would run away from me, they'd lose out on all of this." he said, gesturing to himself.
I rolled my eyes.
"And yes, I was quite the player in high school." he winked at me.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Come on, Logan's probably waiting. We need to get you out of here," I said, getting up.
He got up too. I turned around and unlatched the door and opened it, but regretted it once I saw the same lady standing there with two other women at her side. They were both wearing uniform, so they must have been working for the station.
"See, I told you!" the lady exclaimed.
"Oh shoot," Isaac mumbled from behind me.
I laughed awkwardly.
"Hi," I squeaked, before grabbing Isaac's hand and running out of the bathroom.
"Sadie, where are you going?" Faye yelled at me, a toilet roll in her hand.
"Come on!" Isaac yelled and grabbed her hand.
"Get them!" the ladies yelled, running after us.
I laughed as we all piled into the combi, Isaac in the driver's seat. He quickly started the engine and we were off. Faye and I were laughing as we watched the ladies yelling at us as we pulled into the main road again.
"Why were those women chasing you and why were you in the ladies room?" Faye asked Isaac.
He just laughed and shook his head.
"Long story," he said.
I laughed, remembering the lady's face when she saw us. Faye looked at me, expecting me to spill the beans. I giggled and shook my head.
"That's a story for another day," I said and shook my head.
I looked to Logan in the front seat to see him silent. Not laughing, not smiling, nothing. I wondered what was going on in his head and whether it was because of Isaac and I. I looked away, before the thoughts could consume me, and looked out of the window.
Things were silent, just music playing from the radio was audible, when I realised something.
I forgot to use the toilet...
~&~
"Finally!" Isaac exclaimed and parked the combi in the small garage.
Faye and I got out of the combi, both of ours legs feeling like jelly. I stumbled at first, but balanced myself out. I walked around to the back to get my luggage, but Logan had already gotten to it.
I smiled at him and thanked him. He smiled back at me, his nose and cheeks red from the cold. I noticed he was wearing a black hoodie, which brought out his brown eyes. I smiled and turned back to face Faye.
"Considering the fact that the boys can't cook, maybe we should start dinner?" I suggested.
"Yeah, and thank goodness that I'm not the only one this time." she smiled and grabbed my arm, dragging me through the snow.
She shoved her hand in her coat's pocket and pulled out the bunch of keys. She unlocked the door and allowed the boys to walk in first, considering they were holding our luggage.
"Thanks," Logan said as he kicked off his boots next to Isaac's.
Faye closed the door and we kicked off our shoes. We walked toward the kitchen and put the lights on. It was spotless and quite big.
"Let's get to work, we're making spaghetti tonight." she said and opened the cupboard grabbing a pot.
I picked up the grocery bags and put them on the counter, taking out all the ingredients we bought before we left home. Faye starting cooking the pasta while I unwrapped the meatballs and put them in a pan and placing it on the stove.
"Thanks. Go and check on the boys for me, will you?" she asked, turning on the plate where the meatballs were laid.
I nodded and walked out of the kitchen. I had taken off my sweater, so I was in just a thin, tight long sleeve shirt and it was freezing outside. I wrapped my arms around myself as I rounded the corner and searched for the boys. They were getting their bags out of the trunk and locking the combi.
"You need something?" Logan asked me, turning to face me.
"Uh, no. Faye just asked me to check on you guys." I said with a smile.
He smiled at me and walked toward me.
"Come on, let's get you inside before you freeze." he said and placed his hand in the small of my back, giving me a gentle push.
I blushed at the contact and started walking ahead. I heard the boys behind me talking about how they were going to have to shuffle all the snow out of the driveway the following morning as we entered the house.
"Sadie, I need you!" Faye screamed from the kitchen.
"Coming!" I yelled back, jogging into the kitchen.
When I got into the kitchen, I had to stifle my scream. Faye held a broom towards a raccoon.
"Get the boys," she whispered carefully, trying to startle the raccoon.
"Isaac, Logan, get here now!" I called, waving them over.
"What is it?" Isaac asked as he came up behind me.
Once the boys saw the raccoon, they sprung into action.
"Faye, back away slowly and come here." Logan said, holding out his hand.
She backed away slowly and then rushed to Logan. He pulled her behind him.
"Open the front door," Isaac said as he grabbed the broom from Faye.
She rushed to the door and opened it.
"Okay, now go stand on the stairs and let us deal with this." Logan said and walked into the kitchen.
I grabbed Faye's hand and we rushed to the stairs. We heard some shuffling then some whispers, then crashing and then yelling.
"Are they good at this?" I asked Faye.
She nodded her head and smiled at me.
"They're the best, but there is always something broken when they're done." she said.
"Ah darn!" one of them yelled.
"Corner it!" another yelled.
I couldn't make out which was which. I then heard another crash and then we both saw the raccoon run past the stairs and out of the cabin. Faye rushed down the stairs and ran to close the door, whereas I ran into the kitchen. I found Isaac bent over holding Logan's arm.
"Are you okay?" I asked, nearing them.
"Yeah, just a scratch." Logan said.
I took his arm in my hand and looked at the 'scratch'.
"You call this a scratch, I'd hate to see what you thought deep cut was. Come on," I said, helping Isaac get him up.
"What happened?" Faye asked entering the kitchen.
"Battle scar," I teased, looking to Logan.
He laughed and smiled at me. I smiled back, blushing slightly.
"Here," Isaac said to me, holding out the first aid kit.
I smiled at him.
"Thanks," I said and opened it.
"This is going to sting," I said and dipped the cotton bud into the disinfectant.
"Nothing hurts me," he said, a smirk.
"You'll regret saying that in a second," I said and pressed it down on the cut.
"Ow!" he yelped.
"Told you,"
~&~
Later on that night, after we'd all gotten into bed, it was silent and I couldn't sleep. I looked over at Faye to see her fast asleep, whereas I couldn't even close my eyes – I wasn't tried, I had slept the whole way here!
I huffed and got out of bed, hoping that a cup of tea would solve my problem. I pulled the covers off of my body and tip-toed out of our room. I walked past the boy's room and into the kitchen. I grabbed a cup from the cupboard and set it down on the counter. I placed the tea bag inside the cup and poured boiling water from the flask into my cup.
"Hey,"
I spun around, nearly spilling the boiling water everywhere. I saw Logan sitting behind the island, a notebook laying on the surface.
"What are you doing up?" I asked, turning back around and walking towards the fridge.
"Couldn't sleep. How about you?" he asked as I poured the milk into my tea.
"Same," I said, mixing the sugar into the tea.
I turned around and took a large sip. Logan was smiling at me, leaning back in his chair and a pen in his hand.
"What are you writing?" I asked him.
He shrugged.
"Just thoughts," he said.
I smirked and cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Like – a diary?" I asked him and gulped down my mug of tea.
"It's a journal," he said, pointing at me with his pen.
I chuckled at him and leaned forward on the island.
"What's the difference?' I asked.
"Journal sounds more manly," he said simply.
I laughed and turned around, rinsing my mug in the sink. I nearly dropped the mug once Logan unexpectedly wrapped his arms around my waist, hugging me from behind. I carefully placed the mug down and relaxed, enjoying the warmth he brought on this cold December night.
It was silent, the only thing being heard was our breathing and the occasional singing cricket. I slowly turned around, misjudging the space between us and came face to face with Logan. We were so close that I could feel his breath fanning my lips. I looked into his eyes, wanting to know what he was thinking. His arms were still wrapped gently around my waist, my hands on his forearms.
But what I wasn't expecting, was for the light to switch on.
Logan and I quickly pulled away from each other, me turning around and Logan taking a few steps away. Faye walked into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes.
"Making tea?" she asked.
I nodded, blushing. She looked between Logan and I, and then smirked.
"Did I interrupt something?" she asked, suspiciously.
"No," Logan and I said at the same time.
Well, we just blew it...
"I totally did, I didn't know you guys were a thing!" she squealed.
I shushed her and shook my head, not wanting anyone else to know.
"We're not a thing," Logan said, grabbing his book off the counter.
"What I just walked in on, proves what you just said to be wrong." she said, placing her hands on her hips.
Logan blushed and quickly made his way out of the kitchen, mumbling a 'goodnight'. I did the same and rushed to our room.
"Oh come on!" Faye exclaimed, her hands in the air.
