A few days had passed since Kai had fell out of the sky near the dragon's edge. While the riders had been welcoming to her, she still felt like an intruder, knowing she didn't belong here at all.

Hiccup and Fishlegs would geek out about random dragon science, Snotlout and the twins would be playing weird games like catch the goat or whatever it was and Astrid would be doing patrols, leaving the winged hero to feel left out, like always.

She was currently watching Hiccup trying to build a wingsuit beside Toothless after several failed attempts. He was almost done with tips from her who had a share experience of flying herself and now all he needed to do was light up the forge and fix a few tweaks.

"Hey bud, can you fire up the forge?" He asked Toothless.

Snotlout suddenly appeared at the roof on Hookfang. "I got it."

Hiccup jumped in surprise. "Oh, my! Snotlout! How many times have I told you to not sneak up on me like that?"

"Uh, well, if you count now, I would say I don't care," he replied, laughing. "Let me light the forge for you."

Hiccup groaned. "Yeah, I think I'm okay."

"Hiccup, aren't you always complaining that I never do anything around here? Well, here I am. Snotlout 'the Volunteer' Jorgenson. Ready to do Thor's work," Snotlout stated, flashing Kai a smirk, who rolled her eyes at his antics.

"And that's what I'm afraid of," Hiccup mumbled.

"Watch and learn, Hiccup. Watch and learn. Hookfang, hit it." Before Hiccup could protest, Hookfang blew a blast of fire, lighting the whole building on fire.

Toothless jumped protectively in front of Hiccup and Kai, trying to extinguish the fire as the twins and their dragon flew in with a huge bucket of water before pouring it on the building to put out the fire.

They glared at Snotlout before flying away who turned his attention to Hiccup to see him glaring at him too. "What? They've changed."

"No, Snotlout, they haven't changed. It's just that this is over the line. Even for them," Hiccup said, anger evident in his tone.

Snotlout shrugged casually. "Relax, Hiccup. Don't get your tunic in a bunch. Everything's fine."

Kai just stood there silently beside Toothless as the two bickered back and forth until Hiccup's father, Stoick, landed in front of them with his dragon, Skullcrusher.

"Hey, dad," Hiccup greeted while Stoick nodded, opening his mouth to speak until he caught sight of Kai.

"Who are you?" He asked.

"Dad, this is Kai. Kai, this is my dad, the chief of Berk," Hiccup introduced.

Kai waved at him and flashed him a smile. "Hi."

Stoick nodded his head in acknowledgement. He then informed Snotlout about his father's disappearance, the three leaving on their dragons to search for him moments later, leaving the winged hero to herself.

Kai then aimlessly wandered through the island, stopping at the highest edge of a cliff which overlooked the sea. She stared out towards the ocean, watching the waves gently crawl onto the island's shores as the sun rays reflected off of it. The salty spray mists from the gentle wind breeze cooled her light tanned skin as she took in a deep breath.

Kai glanced around, seeing no one near, deciding to stretch her wings which she ached to do since the past few days she was here, but was scared she might freak the dragon riders out because of it.

Taking this opportunity, the winged hero opened her arms, embracing the cool winds, and closed her eyes before jumping off the edge.

The sensation of free falling always managed to ease her soul, adrenaline rushing through her veins as if she was doing it all over again for the first time. But before she had the chance to expand her wings out of her shoulder blades, her body was grabbed by someone, surprising her, before dropping her on the sandy shore below them.

Kai opened her eyes to see Stormfly and Astrid, who climbed off her dragon and stormed towards her, a furious glint in her ocean eyes while the dark-gold haired teenager just smiled casually at the dragon rider.

"What were you thinking?!" Astrid glared at Kai. "You just jumped off the cliff care freely as if you've done it so many times, and were about to fall to your death if Stormfly and I weren't there to catch you!"

Kai casually dug her hands in her pockets, shrugging. "Actually, you're not wrong. I have done it loads of times before but I haven't died yet."

"Are you serious?!" Astrid said with an exasperated tone, getting really agitated by the dark-gold haired teenager's chill personality. "You know what? Fine. Jump off the cliff like an insane person would. I will not catch you again."

"Okay." Kai shrugged her shoulders again, calmly walking past the blonde dragon rider.

Astrid let out a growl of annoyance. "You really get on my nerves, you know that?"

"I'll take that as a compliment," the winged hero stated, beginning to love annoying the living hell out of the blonde rider.

Astrid grabbed Kai's arm, halting her in her tracks and pulling her attention towards her. "You're crazy."

Striking golden eyes met captivating ocean ones as Kai leaned forward with a grin. "Better crazy than boring, Astrid, don't you agree?"

Astrid was surprised by her sudden closeness, having no idea how to reply. Well, she did know how to reply, every inch of her wanting to punch that smirk off Kai's face, but her mind was more focused on the close proximity between their faces and the scent of fresh mint radiating off of her.

There was just something within her that sparked. She couldn't place what exactly it was, but it felt as if their souls recognised each other, and oddly enough not in a romantic way, yet were too stubborn to admit it.

Kai stepped back, a playful and satisfactory smirk plastered across her face before walking away and leaving Astrid speechless in a flustered mess, the blonde's brain trying to process what exactly had just happened.

"She's driving me insane. Even more than the twins," Astrid mumbled to herself.

Stormfly squawked, nudging Astrid, breaking the rider out of her thoughts as she turned towards her dragon, who stared at her with a certain look. She let out a sigh before climbing on her dragon, taking off into the sky moments later.
