~ Part 19 ~

Asriel gave a speech to the people of the Underground claiming his throne and his new kingdom. The crowd erupted in a flurry of applause and cheers at their new king.

As he made his way down the grand staircase, he beckoned Frisk to his side. The two would begin the night off with a dance. That's usually how these events started off. The new king having an eloquent dance with his future partner. However, Frisk was oblivious to these rituals.

Sans just watched on in terror as she left his side and made her way over to Asriel.

When she finally met him in the center of the room, he gently took her hands in his and kissed each one, staring up at her the whole time.

Frisk's mind went dizzy at the unfamiliar behavior of her brother. What was he doing?! Noticing the equal emotions of fear and confusion in his sister's eyes, Asriel wrapped his arms around her slim body and murmured something in her ear.

"Everything's alright. Just follow my lead."

His arms left her just as soon as they arrived it felt like. But he quickly relocated one to her hip and another interlocking the fingers of his right hand and her left after guiding her right arm around his neck.

Not wanting to ruin the night, Frisk reluctantly complied to her brother's demands.

The two spent ten minutes at least in a classical waltz. Asriel lead the two around the ballroom floor in elegance while including twirls and dips, deeply looking into Frisk's eyes each time he did so.

When the song came to an end, Asriel ended in a position where his mouth was uncomfortably close to hers. But she didn't move away and she didn't complain. She refused to ruin his night.

The party continued on. Monsters made their way to the ballroom floor and paired up to dance to the classical music that now echoed pleasantly off the walls.

Frisk had attempted to leave Asriel's side to go reunite with her friends, but a strong hand around her wrist kept her from doing so.

She turned around to question him, but didn't get a chance before he spoke.

"You're my date, remember?" He reminded, tightening his grip slightly.

She didn't like this. Asriel never acted like this before; even when he was upset. Not towards her.

She needed an excuse. She needed to get away.

"Can I at least go dance?" She asked innocently, hoping her charm would run off on him.

"No, but-"

"King Asriel, King Asriel! Can you please teach your ways, please?"

Oh Monster Kid, what a wonderful child.

Asriel was pulled away in a hurried manor giving Frisk a chance to escape to her friends. She could feel his eyes on her as she walked away but tried to ignore it.

Luckily, it wasn't long before she was 'hidden' in the crowd. She watched fondly as Monsters of different cities paired up with each other to slow dance. She couldn't help but find the scene endearing.

As Frisk stood with a thoughtful expression on her face, she felt someone bump into her. The girl quickly turned around, an apology at the tip of her tongue, but it failed to make its delivery when she saw who it was.

Sans.

"o-oh, sorry there ki- miss." The skeleton stuttered, calming the glass of red punch he held in his hand.

Frisk couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

"Miss?" She questioned, a hand on her hip.

"well, yeah. you're royalty now."

Frisk's original grin slowly grew into a frown. She didn't want to be treated like that nor had the desire to be.

"Don't- don't call me that, Sans. This is Asriel's ordeal, I'm still the same old Frisk. You don't have to treat me different just because I'm related to him. You're the only chum I've got." Frisk smiled at the skeleton and light elbowed him in the arm.

While Sans wasn't pleased with the term 'chum', he gladly accepted the other praise she'd given.

"should've know. i know this whole event's been hard on you. but you're doin' great kid. even if your speech was a little boring." He teased.

As much as Sans was enjoying this time with Frisk, he knew it'd end soon. Asriel would never let this pass if he knew. And soon the two of them would be committed to each other and he'd have to live with it forever.

"Boring? Me? No way! If anyone had the boring speech it was Asriel." She giggled.

Her laughter soon ceased as she saw the expression on her skeleton companion's face. He was in deep thought.

"Sans...?"

His pinpricks quickly darted from the floor to her eyes. He had to do something. Before he never got the chance to again. He had to make the most of tonight.

"would ya care to dance, kiddo?" He asked, a new sense of confidence lacing his tone.

Frisk was taken aback from the offer. As much as she tried to push her mind from it, she knew there was a girl here whom Sans had feelings for. After this stupid coronation was done, she'd probably lose him forever. She had to make the most of tonight.

"I'd love to."
