Chapter 94
Later that night...
Archer was all cozy in her bed ready to fall back to sleep again. She had double checked that her front door was locked, all the lights were off and had no more worries for the night to keep her up. At least that's what she thought. Archer had no complaints about her current life. She had a actual home, real friends and even a family despite not sharing the same last name or being the same species. She was respected and nobody judged her for being herself. Archer felt as if there was nothing that could make her life messy ever again but, little did she know how fast that detail was going to change.
Thirty Seconds to be exact.
Loud knocking sudden echoed throughout the quiet mushroom house. The lizard groaned disapprovedly as she tried to mute the unwanted noise with her pillow but, failed miserably. The knocking was relentless. Who would have the nerve to show up unannounced during the night and wake somebody up from their slumber? It's after midnight too! There are no ongoing parties! Nothing! Everyone should be at home and asleep at this hour, unless their a Hunter on patrol.
" Somebody better be dying... ", Archer commented grumpily.
The lizard forced herself to get out of her bed. Archer was wearing her favourite oversized sleeping shirt and random pair of pajama pants she found laying around in her closet. She grumpily marched down to her front door as the annoying knocking contuined but, eventually stopped when she finally reached the door and had turned on the lights. Whoever was there better still be outside the door. The irritated lizard grabbed the handle then opened the door with the most agressive expression she ever made on her face.
" What Do You Want,Dummy? It better be important or I will - ", Archer barked.
Then her whole demeanor melted away when she had saw and realized who was her uninvited and late night guest. Archer froze for a moment as she stared at the familiar face of somebody didn't expect to see again so soon. The house lights had chased away the darkness that once covered the vampire and shined on him like a spotlight. He wasn't supposed to be back in the village but, there was nobody else that he could turn to that he could to trust and would understand the gravity of his situation with an open mind. Only Archer could truly understand. She had experienced it herself.
" Poppy?", Archer exclaimed surprised and confused.
" I need your help...", Poppy confessed.
You could easily hear in his tone that something was wrong. His body was tense from clearly heavy stress. The way he stood was very stiff as his hands seemed to clench. That was out of character for someone as relaxed as Poppy. Archer had never seen him be so worked up over something like this before. It was concerning to say the least. She didn't know what was going on but, knowing Poppy that won't remain a mystery for long.
" Get in... ", Archer stated.
Thirty minutes later, Archer was dumbfounded as she heard Poppy's story. He had told her everything as he walked back and forth unable to stay still for even one second. It was like his body was on autopilot while his mind ran into two different directions at once. His feelings for the Vampire Queen, their relationship, him withholding certain and more than just simply a handful of secrets, how much he was enjoying his new life and so on. The strings only knew 60% of his discoveries but, that 40% wasn't just very personal information a decent person wouldn't spread around... She couldn't believe it that Poppy actually felt that way but;at the same she could and understood where he was coming from, excluding the romance issue. He was in the same boat she was once in with the Party Crashers.
" I can't just leave everyone here in the dust. I love my family and friends and the village will never stop being my home but, if I don't Branch is going to die and so will everyone else and they don't like troll blood as much as we believed they did. I met vampires who find us too sugary and never went near the village at all! ", Poppy stated running through his train of thought.
" Poppy...", Archer said.
She was trying to pull his attention out of his rambling but, failed. Poppy was trapped in what felt like a never ending spiral. Poppy was never the best at handling stress when he entered his spirals.
" I don't wanna betray anybody but, no matter what I do someone is going to get hurt and it will happen cause I either did something or done nothing! ", Poppy carried on rambling.
" Poppy. ", Archer repeated.
It did nothing.
" What am I going to do?!", Poppy exclaimed to himself.
Then she snapped.
" Dude! Shut Up And Let Me Say Something!", Archer yelled irritated.
The outburst snapped the pink man out of his conflicted thoughts and to actually stop and look at the person who came to for help. He hadn't realized until now that he was ignoring her. The former troll would rarely on purposely ignore someone due to how rude and bad it usually made him feel.
A wave of guilt washed over him as he apologized for his mistake, then sat down with her on the cheap couch. Archer had waited, until Poppy was both silent and seated, to try and make more sense of his additional rambles and the madness.
" So you want to both keep everyone's trust, remaining apart of your mother's and the trolls lives, and have your forbidden girlfriend and eventually get married and all that mushy stuff? Right?", Archer says calmly.
" More or less. I didn't think that far into it. ", Poppy admitted.
It was way too early to consider marriage. Poppy didn't even take Branch out on a date yet. As far as he knew she didn't share the same feelings ,he felt for her, for him but, he didn't want to miss his shot. He wanted nothing more than to make Branch his but,it was easier said than done. That factor hadn't changed.
"Poppy, you can't have everything. It's impossible. One side will always have a bad opinion or both might turn on you considering how serious Vampdom is about punishing traitors. ", Archer points out.
Vampdom didn't have set in law rules on how they dealed with traitors. It all depended on who was ruling at the time but, they were usually one of the most serious punishments. The most popular methods were banishment and isolated imprisonment that lasted until your death if you actually do die. Only a few were given death sentences cause the rulers found the traitor both too dangerious to roam freely in the world and to remain alive.
Branch wasn't personally a fan of the death sentence and had never had a reason to off somebody's head so Poppy didn't think things would go south that far but,the possibilities were still worrisome. Has Poppy ever seen her in action of handing out punishments that serious? No but, he knew very well the type of person Branch was. Deep down he knew that she would never forgive or openly accept him if she knew what he was. A Spy, Hunter and a Traitor to Vampdom. And to Branch too...
" Your going have to a pick side just like I did unfortunately but, before you do mark my words. Betraying my sister was the hardest decision I ever made even know she treated me terribly. I didn't know if things were going to get better for me after I joined your village. I took a risk and it paid off well but, that's not going to happen to everyone, including you... So before you do anything - I don't care what it is your planning or if this sounds repeative - stop and think about who and what world you actually want to fight for. Forget about the blood factor. When you figure it out,it won't be any easier but,at least you know where you are going. ", Archer spoke.
Archer had spoken with an wave of emotion. At first it was harsh but, then it slowly calmed towards the end. This whole situation was bringing so many old memories for her. The feeling of losing the people you love always hurt. Even if they were bad to have hanging around you. Poppy may had a more caring family member than her but, that didn't change the problem.
Thinking. That was the only thing Poppy felt like he has been doing for the longest time. It would mean nothing if he never acted on his thoughts but, then again he still hit the same wall Archer just brought back up. He still didn't know who to choose. The new love of his life and Vampdom or his own mother and his home? If Poppy could build the bridge missing between trolls and vampires he would but, nobody on both sides of it would had wanted to cross anyway. Both feared each other for the same main reasons and could easily strike back.
Dawn was approaching closer and closer. Poppy's time in the village up. Even if he wanted to he couldn't stay. Vampdom might close it's doors at any moment and the sun could easily kill him if he stayed. Archer made sure her lights were off so her visitor wouldn't seen clearly as he left. The vampire slowly exited the house then just stood there taking one last glance at the village.
He didn't know if he would ever come back to home again. That very thought made his heart break. Poppy sighed as he torn his sad glance away from the village. In a matter of seconds he was gone but, little did he know that him leaving didn't only go unnoticed by his trusted friend. Another troll was still up that morning.
Supergirl took an double take as she stood at her friend's pod window. She could had swore that she had heard and saw someone outside but, when she blinked they were gone. The Classical troll rubbed her eyes to make them more awake but, when she looked out the window again nobody was there.
" Maybe doing an all nighter was a mistake...", Supergirl told herself.
