Chapter 35: The Hike part 2
"Carry me? Oppa are you trying to get yourself killed?" I chuckled in disbelief.
"I think you underestimate my strength." Jin flexed his arm muscles under his long sleeve shirt, they were more visible and definitely impressive. I tried not to stare, but I just loved looking at him, everything about him was just perfect.
"Girl you look so smitten." Heather jabbed me in the ribs with a grin.
I coughed and giggled, embarrassed she called attention to me practically drooling over Jin.
"Make sure you drink plenty of water, it's hot out there." Jin handed me a cold water bottle with an amused smirk.
"Yes I know, thank you oppa." I grabbed it and drank it down quickly. He must have thought I looked so thirsty right now.
After glancing down at her Apple Watch, Heather loudly announced, "Alright everyone time to go! Remember, be safe out there!"
We all went outside to start the hike. I walked with Jin as he held my hand, leading me to the front of the line. He was already being competitive. Jungkook and Taehyung were ahead of us picking up their pace, as we get closer to the start of the trail. I hoped Jin didn't expect me to jog like them, I hadn't jogged since I was forced to in high school gym class.
"Cora, hold on to me and we'll win this thing!" Jin said, dragging me along up the trail with him.
I started regretting the decision to come and wished I was in the cool AC, watching that boring movie instead. Jin started happily speed walking faster. The further up we went, the cooler the air felt on my face. The scenery around us changed, we saw more of the beautiful forest with their overgrown vegetation, and the air smelled fresher. My pace quickened and I felt a good rush as my heart pumped.
We finally arrived at the first stop, finding an executive board member dressed in sports gear, handing us an envelope with our first prizes and more water bottles. We thanked him, then started our way up, after taking a minute to drink some more water. Some of the group had already stopped with red faces and were fanning themselves from the unrelenting heat. Jungkook and Taehyung had already started on their way ahead of us, and Jin was itching to catch up. I took a last gulp and quickly stuffed my water bottle in my little drawstring bag.
We hiked up the hill again and I was surprised I hadn't died yet. Beads of sweat rolled down my cheeks and we both looked flushed from the exercise. I could see Taehyung and Jungkook in the distance, almost jogging and laughing like they were having the time of their lives. I wish I had that much energy, but then again they actually exercised daily and I didn't. I panted heavily from the elevation, Jin noticed and slowed down so I could breathe better.
"Are you ok?" Jin asked breathlessly as his concerned eyes roamed over my heaving chest.
I could see how bad he wanted to win, so I took a deep breath and started jogging after nodding my head. It was almost too hard to talk, my chest burned from the forced activity my body was not used to. I was doing all kinds of new things these days for this man. I must really like him... actually I realized I was in love with him. The realization hit me, I was in love with Jin! I had been in love for a while and I got the feeling he was too, but he hadn't said it yet... should I say it first or wait for him to say it?
I didn't have time to think about that now. I just needed to focus on breathing properly so I didn't pass out from jogging.
After we finally reached the second post, I almost fell over from heavily panting. The park ranger was there, handing us more water and told us to take it easy, as he noticed how I looked like I was about to faint.
"I'm ok," I assured everyone.
Jin's eyes searched my face in concern as he squeezed my hand. "You know I can carry you, if you don't want to go any further."
"I can't do that to you, you'll pass out." I managed to say between heavy breaths.
"No I won't, I've carried heavier things in the military."
"It's ok oppa."
Jin softly smiled at me and planted a kiss on my forehead. I smiled back and remembered that there was something I wanted to say to him.
Should I say it now?
"Look they left!" Jin pointed up at Jungkook and Taehyung who had started up the trail again.
Maybe later, I will say it.
Biting my lip, I joined Jin up the hill and we started jogging together again, finally catching up to the Taehyung and Jungkook. Now they were also sweating and red faced. Jin gave them both a warning look, like he was telling them to slow down with his eyes. They both looked like they wanted to speed up, but the threatening look Jin gave them made them both immediately slow down.
My wobbly legs felt weak and I ended up falling down, tripping on my own shoes.
"Ow my foot!" I screeched after falling on my butt.
Ugh there I go again with my clumsiness.
Taehyung and Jin rushed over to me.
"Are you ok noona?" Taehyung asked me as he helped me get back up.
"Yeah I'm fine." I immediately fell back down again when I felt the sharp pain shooting up from my ankle.
"Hyung you're too much, she couldn't keep up!" Taehyung scolded Jin as he glared at him with his hands on his hips disapprovingly.
"I'm sorry Cora, it's my fault I really wanted to win." Jin said as he examined my bruised ankle, pulling out the first aid kit, and wrapped it with bandage.
We were so close to the finish line,I could see the flag waving in the distance. We were the first ones and everyone else were far behind us. Taehyung offered to get me to climb onto his back, to piggyback me to the end.
"No I'll carry her!" Jin commanded Taehyung, making us all gawk at him, surprised.
Taehyung reluctantly nodded and helped me get on Jin's back. We all walked to the last post with me feeling silly that Jin had to piggyback me to the top. Taehyung and Jungkook slowed down behind us to let us win.
"Why are you guys slowing down, go win the first prize!" I encouraged as we drew closer to the finish line.
They both glanced at one another and then back wt Jin as if to speak to each other telepathically.
"No noona, we planned to let you win to begin with." Taehyung admitted after looking at Jin for his approval.
"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
Jin glanced back at me, "I'm sorry I knew you wouldn't go along with it, but I really wanted to go to Hawaii with you."
"Oppa you're a millionaire, we could go anytime!" I exclaimed.
"But I wanted you to win it! I knew it would be more satisfying for you to win it on your own!"
"What? I don't care about Hawaii, I only did this because I knew you wanted to go!" I giggled, making the others laugh along with me. But the moment was cut short by the sight of Sue. She glared at us as we got closer and rolled her eyes.
"Here's your prize, Congratulations!" Sue said barely able to hide her contempt as she handed us the tickets for Hawaii and the booking for the hotel.
I squealed in delight, I had always wanted to go to Hawaii! And I got to go with Jin! For a moment, I forgot about my ankle and I happily hobbled in excitement. I was quickly admonished to stop and to sit down, everyone more concerned about my ankle than I was.
After calming down from the excitement we gathered around and looked over the cliff ahead of us. The sight was absolutely breathtaking. We could better see the massive green forest and clear blue skies from here. Beneath us the water ran over the rocks, the pristine river looked so fresh and inviting. I gazed upon the gorgeous view, taking it all in with a deep breath.
"I have something I wanted to tell you Cora." Jin took my hand.
"Cora you should go down with us, we will carry you down." Taehyung offered.
"She will, I just want to talk to her alone for a minute guys." Jin said.
Jungkook and Taehyung glanced at one another knowingly and nodded their heads. Sue was still glaring at us with her face looking like she just sucked on a lemon.
I didn't see anyone else coming up, making me think they all gave up and went back. I didn't blame them, I would have done the same if it hadn't been for Jin and the boys. Jin lead me away from everyone to go deeper into the forest, helping me walk, as I hobbled along. His strong arms making sure I never lost my balance. He was so gentle and careful with made, it made my heart melt.
After we were a bit deeper in the thick forest, he hesitated, looking down at my wounded foot. "Maybe we should stop here."
I was wondering why he wanted to be out here alone, so far away from everyone.
