Chapter Two

Jeremy's P.O.V

Over the next six weeks I had tried my best to get to know Rowan. She was always so distant but she seemed to like having me around. It was my last night at the house, and it had to be around midnight. I had my bedroom door open as I stood on the balcony. All of a sudden I heard someone scream and it sounded an awful lot like Rowan. I quickly rushed out of my room, not bothering to grab a shirt and walked down the hall to her room.

"Rowan, it's me Jeremy. Are you okay?"

I called through the shut door, hoping she was okay. A few moments later, the door opened and a very tired looking Rowan stepped out.

"Sorry, did I wake you Jeremy?"

"No, I was still awake. Are you alright?"

"Yeah... bad dream that's all."

I noticed that it looked like she had been crying, and she was still shaking.

"Rowan, what happened?"

"Nothing... I'm going to get changed and go to the gym. Sorry for waking you."

She turned to shut the door, but I reached out and grasp her arm.

"Rowan, are you sure you are okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. Go back to sleep Jeremy. I'll see in the morning."

She shut the door in my face and I stood there stunned. She said she was going to the gym so I decided I would follow her and make sure she was okay. I went back to my room changed into my gym clothes, and followed her down the stairs. She must have heard me because she knew I was behind her.

"Jeremy, I told you to go back to bed."

"Rowan, I was worried about you. Let me go to the gym with you tonight."
I heard her sigh, and she turned around to face me.

"Alright, I guess you can come along."

I could tell she had been crying, so I took a leap of faith, closed the distance between us, and kissed her. At first she seemed shocked but soon she kissed back. After a little while I pulled away and rested my forehead against hers.

"Jeremy... I don't know what to say."

"I'm sorry Rowan... I don't know what came..."

I got cut off when she pressed her lips against mine, and it startled me.

"Don't be sorry Jeremy. I liked it."

I smiled.

"So did I. Now do you want to tell me what happened?"

"No, not yet. Let's just go to the gym, and maybe I'll be able to tell you afterwards."

I nodded and slipped my hand into hers as we walked outside.

"Rowan, I'll drive tonight. You just tell me where to go."

"Okay, thank you Jeremy."

She handed me her keys, and let go of my hand. She walked to the passenger side of her jeep and got in. I climbed in the driver's side, and started the jeep.

As we drove, Rowan stayed pretty quiet. She only ever said anything when she was giving me directions. I chalked it up to her being tired and what happened when I heard her screaming. I started to wonder what she had seen with her unit during the time she spent overseas. From what she said she had spent a while over there with her unit, and sometimes I wondered why she was sent back home. She never did tell me, and I never asked, because I figured it was a pretty touchy subject.

"Turn left up ahead and we should be there."
"Okay, Rowan. What do you usually do on nights like these?"

"Beat a punching bag to pulp."

"Really?"

"Yeah. I have broken a few."

"I find that really hard to believe."

"Well I'm in the mood tonight, so you will probably see it happen."

Rowan's P.O.V

As soon as Jeremy parked the car I got out grabbing my bag and walked into the gym. I walked to the desk where my friend Joe was working.

"Here again Rowan?"

"Blame the army for sleepless nights."

He chuckled and swiped my card.

"I know that feeling, but the army was good for both of us."

"Yeah it was. Oh I also need a guest pass I have a friend with me tonight."

He nodded and handed me the pass just as Jeremy walked up to the desk.

"Jeremy, meet an old army buddy of mine, Joseph Adams."

"Nice to meet you."

"Same here Mr. Renner. Big fan of your movies, and I'm curious how you met Rowan."

"Call me Jeremy, and she has put me through her so called boot camp for the last six weeks."

"Well, Jeremy she is one of the best leaders around. You guys have a good work out. Rowan your favorite gym is open for you upstairs."

"Thanks Joe. See you later."

We headed upstairs and I walked towards the gym I usually worked out in. I had a feeling Jeremy was going to stay with me wherever I went so I walked in turned the light on and took off my sweatshirt, leaving me in my shorts and tank top. I wrapped my hands before walking over and hanging up a punching bag.

"Jeremy, what are you going to do?"

"Probably lift weights or something like that."

I nodded as I started working on beating the tar out of the bag in front of me. I was a lot stronger than I looked, and I was letting it show. I had so much pent up anger, that this wasn't as calming as it usually was. Maybe it was because the wall I had build up, had been knocked down when Jeremy kissed me. The more I thought the harder I hit the bag. I had blocked out everything but the sound of my own breathing, and I could see the bag starting to break from where I had been hitting over and over again. It was the one I had been using over the past few weeks, and when I placed one hard blow to it, I knocked the bag off the hook breaking it open on the floor.

"And there goes another good punching bag."

I muttered under my breath then glanced over at Jeremy and he had a look of disbelief on his face.

"Rowan..."

"Yeah."

Jeremy's P.O.V

I watched her turn around to pick up another punching bag when she seemed to loose her balance, and fell. I immediately moved to where she had fallen and knelt next to her.

"Rowan, come on look at me."

Her eyes met mine before she started coughing.

"Jeremy, get me to the ER."

I picked her up in my arms and took her downstairs to the jeep. Joe was standing at the desk when I came down the stairs, and by that time Rowan had passed out in my arms.

"It happened again?"

"What do you mean again?"

"She fell and started coughing, right?"

"Yes, how did you know?"

"She still has shrapnel in her abdomen. It does this to her on occasion."

"What do I do?"

"Just get her to the ER, and they'll know what to do."

I nodded and took Rowan out to the jeep.

Rowan's P.O.V

I woke up with an awful headache. I looked around and realized I was in the ER again. Jeremy was passed out in a chair near my bed, and I couldn't help but smile because he looked so peaceful. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain stopped me. I looked down at my abdomen and it had a bandage around it. They must have finally been able to get the rest of the bullet out, at least that meant no more of these weird attacks. I managed to sit up without making too much noise, and looked for my phone. It was on the table next to the bed, and I reached to get it but I knocked it off.

"Great... just great."

The sound of my muttering and the phone falling caused Jeremy to wake up.

"Hey, you're up."

"Yeah, could you hand me my phone?"

"Sure."

He picked my phone up handing it to me, and he was smiling.

"Why are you smiling?"

"I'm just happy you are okay. I was so worried about you last night."

"I am so sorry about that. It just happens sometimes."

"Hey, I'm just glad you weren't by yourself."

"I'm sorry to have kept you from what ever you were supposed to do this morning."

"My plan was to take you out to breakfast."

I smiled a little, before glancing down at my phone. Jeremy got up, and sat down next to me on the bed.

"Rowan, look at me."

He placed his hand under my chin making me look at him. He smiled, leaned in and kissed me. I lifted my hands and they found their way into his hair.

"Jeremy, what does this make us now?"

"I was hoping it would make you my girlfriend."

"We haven't even been on a date yet..."

"If we do, will you say yes?"

"I guess so."

He grinned and gave me a quick kiss.

"Good, because you can leave any time you feel like it. And there is a movie premiere I would love for you to accompany me to."

"I would love to, but I don't have anything I could wear tonight. I don't own any dresses."

"Do you still have your military dress uniform?"

"Yes I do.... Wait you don't want me to wear that to the premiere."

He just smiled and nodded.

"I do. Rowan, I did some checking last night and you are a hero. You have a purple heart, and I never knew that. You should wear your uniform tonight."

"Alright, I will but I need to get home in order to even think about getting into it. I need to get out everything and make sure it's clean."

"I'll go get the paperwork finished so you can leave, and I'll leave you to get dressed."

"Thanks. Did you bring my duffel bag?"

"Yeah."

He set my bag on the bed, and left to go finish the paperwork. I pulled the IV out and dug in my duffel bag until I found my jean shorts, a tank top and my make up kit. I went into the bathroom, got dressed, braided my hair and applied my make up. I put on my sneakers I was wearing last night and walked back into the room. Jeremy was waiting for me.

"You are all good to go."

"Great, and I'm guessing that they got the shrapnel out last night?"

"Yeah, they said it was just a small incision. Should heal pretty soon."

"Great. I'm ready to get out of here."

"Me too. Do you want to grab breakfast in town?"

"Are you asking me to breakfast Mr. Renner?"

"Yeah, I guess I am Miss. Cullen."

I smiled, and took his outstretched hand. He smiled as we walked out of the hospital, and towards the jeep. I placed my duffel bag in the back and climbed in the driver's side.

"You sure you are alright to drive?"

"Yeah. Where should we go?"

"I really don't care. How about you choose."

"Okay. How about we just go to Starbucks?"

"I'm up for coffee if you are."

"Great."

We spend a good part of the morning enjoying coffee while we talked. It was nice not to have to worry about getting in the training for a morning. Jeremy and I maaged to stay away from paparazzi, which was nice, because they usually followed Jeremy wherever he went. Jeremy insisted to be with me because he was worried about me so I let him come back to my house. He was having a tux delivered for him, and a limo would pick us up at five to take us to the premiere.
