CHAPTER SIX; RUNNING LOW

FALLING
vi. RUNNING LOW
"I DON'T KNOW WHEN I'LL SEE YOU NEXT, BUT WHEN I DO, I HOPE IT'S WITH OPEN ARMS."

"I'm running low
I'm sorry, but I have to go" - Shawn Mendes [Running Low]

NOT TELLING SOMEONE SOMETHING IS THE ONLY REGRET PEOPLE HAVE IN THE END. Chris knew that feeling. Chris knew that he'd only regret not telling Amelia how he felt, and he did, big time. He regretted it every day of his life, but he wasn't going to regret yet another decision. Not this time.

Chris stood outside Amelia's bedroom door, debating with his inner conscious about whether to leave his apology note for Amelia or not. After their big argument last night, he realised that if there wasn't at least an apology from one half, then they wouldn't speak the entire time that Chris was on set, and he didn't want that. He didn't want to lose contact with Amelia over something so small.

Walking into her bedroom, he found her curled up against a pillow like it was a human, her eyes closed as she slept peacefully, with only her bed sheet covering her feet and the doona cover bunched up at the end of the bed like she'd kicked it. Chris placed the note under her phone, where he knew she'd find it when she woke up, and then placed the phone back down again.

He grabbed her bed sheet, draping it over her body, before grabbing her doona and straightening it out, then placing it over her body. He leant down and kissed her forehead, before he found himself leaving the room, closing the door after himself. He made his way to the lounge room where Drift was waiting, wagging his tail happily at his owner.

"Come on buddy, time to go," said Chris, locking the leash onto his dog.

Chris grabbed his suitcase and backpack, before leaving the apartment, closing the door behind him. He made his way into the elevator that took him to the carpark, where he drove himself to the airport. Drift had started whining on the way to the airport, and Chris sighed, reaching over to stroke his head in a comforting manner.

About 20 minutes later, Chris found himself making his way through the airport, going through security, before he took a seat near the gate where he had to board his flight. Drift had been taken in his dog carrier so he could also board the flight, and now all they had to do was wait. Chris pulled his phone out of his pocket, deciding on going through Twitter and Instagram while he waited.

Once he boarded his flight, he sat in his seat by the window, thinking about the fight he had with Amelia last night. She told him that she didn't like spending time with him, but the question was: why? He hadn't done anything wrong, and the whole argument was confusing the crap out of him. They have been best friends for almost 5 years now, and the day before he leaves for 6 months, she tells him that she doesn't like hanging out with him? What kind of a best friend says that?

CHRIS HAD FALLEN ASLEEP ON THE PLANE, WHILE AMELIA GROANED OUT IN ANNOYANCE at the sun shining through the window of her bedroom, and straight to her eyes. She sighed, throwing the blanket off her body, before sitting up. She stretched out her limbs, and made her way towards the bathroom so she could shower.

She hadn't even thought twice about the argument with Chris, which was odd, seeing as she usually always did when they argued, but this time was different. However, she didn't know why.

After dressing herself, she threw the covers back onto the bed properly, then grabbed her phone off the charger, knocking the note Chris left there for her, without realising it, before she disappeared down the corridor. She was greeted by Flash, who barked happily at her when she emerged from the corridor.

"Hi buddy," she greeted him, kissing his head.

Amelia made her way into the kitchen, where she started grabbing ingredients to make herself breakfast. Flash sat on the ground by the end of the kitchen counter, watching Amelia as she made a mess on the kitchen bench. He knew that she was making bacon and eggs like every other Monday morning.

Placing the cooked food onto two plates, Amelia then walked towards the small kitchen table she had beside the lounge room, where she took a seat. Flash sat on the ground beside her, waiting patiently for her to give him his weekly special of human food that he loved so much.

"Flash? What do we say?" Amelia asked, holding the plate where he could see it.

Flash howled in response, causing Amelia to grin at him. It took him just a few short months to learn that trick properly, but he got it eventually, and that's all that mattered. Amelia placed the plate down in front of Flash, where he started eating happily.

ONCE THE TWO WERE FINISHED, Amelia chucked the plates into the dishwasher, and decided to catch up the TV shows she's missed out on the past few months. Flash curled up on the couch beside her, and Amelia stroked his fur whilst he lay asleep in his seat.

She hadn't taken much notice of anything or anyone missing from the house, nor that Chris had left with Drift earlier that morning. It wasn't until she was halfway through season 2 of The 100, when Flash whined in annoyance, and she went to tell him to go play with Drift, but realised the apartment was completely silent.

Amelia looked around in confusion. "Chris?" She called out, climbing off the couch.

Walking around the apartment, she couldn't find a trace of him anywhere. She furrowed her eyebrows, completely forgetting that he left for set earlier that morning. She walked into her bedroom to find her MacBook and phone, but the note Chris left for her caught her eye from its spot on the ground under her bed.

"What the hell is that?" She asked aloud, clearly confused to how that paper got there.

If you couldn't tell already, Amelia kept her room extremely clean. She'd know if something went missing, or if something was misplaced. She had some sort of OCD when it came to her room. Everything had to be perfect, otherwise she'd go off.

Leaning down to pick the paper up, she sat on her bed while unfolding it. She realised it was a note, and by the writing, she realised that it was from Chris. She was curious as to what it said, so she let her eyes scan over the neatly written note.

"Amelia,
You're probably still pissed at me from the argument that we had last night, but I'm over it. Nothing we argued about even made any sense, and I'm still confused as to what we were arguing over. So, I'm sorry for yelling at you, you didn't deserve it. I don't know when I'll see you next, but, I hope that when I do, it'll be with open arms. I'll see you when I'm back from set. I love you bestie, always, forever and ever.

Heads up, you left your laptop in my room for an unknown reason.

Love Chris ❤️, your goofball of a best friend.

"So that's why I couldn't find him," Amelia laughed, shaking her head in amusement at herself.

Rising from the bed, she placed the note in one of her drawers and then closed it back up again. Amelia made her way out of the bedroom, flicking off the light on her way out, and walking down the hall towards Chris' bedroom.

She pushed the bedroom door open, flicking the light on as she entered. Amelia's eyes locked on the rose gold MacBook resting on the bedside table that belonged to Chris. She grabbed it after she walked over, and then left the room to make her way towards the study.

IT HADN'T BEEN LONG SINCE CHRIS' FLIGHT HAD LANDED. He was currently awaiting the arrival of his luggage and Drift in his dog carrier. Once he collected the both of them, he let Drift out of his carrier after putting him on his lead. He gave the carrier back to one of the workers who brought Drift out, and they were on their way.

Making their way out of the airport, Chris hailed a cab that would take them to set. The whole flight, and cab ride, Chris couldn't get the argument out of his head. He really wanted to know if Amelia would accept his apology, and if she had actually read the note he left or not. He was worried the argument would destroy their entire friendship. That was something he didn't want to sacrifice.

The cab arrived at the set of Chris' new TV show, Containment, and Chris climbed out of the yellow vehicle. He paid the driver, and they were making their way over there. The sound of Chris' phone going off caught his attention, and he reached into his pocket to pull it out.

His eyes scanned over the text message he received. He figured it would've been a cast member, but realised it was actually Amelia. A small smile tugged at his lips at the message she had sent him.

CHAMEL[IA]EON; I'm sorry, and I love you too bestie. Have a safe trip, and don't go dying of an diseases now. Call me whenever, you know I'll answer.

CHRIS PINE-WOOD; I might come back with some STD's, watch out.

CHAMEL[IA]EON; 🙄 You're hilarious. Hilarious looking. 😂

CHRIS PINE-WOOD; 🙄

Chris was tapped on the shoulder, catching the attention of the brunette immediately. Placing his phone down, he turned around and was met with Julie Plec, the creator of both Containment, and more famously known as the creator of the hit TV drama, The Vampire Diaries, which Chris also happened to have a role in.

He smiled at her, and a conversation was started between the two almost immediately. Chris knew that his experience on set will be one of the best, and really hoped it turned out well. He was annoyed that he couldn't share his experience with Amelia by his side, but he would be talking all about it when he saw his best friend next.
