[Not a real song^]

"Forget about me, Love?"

"Loki, go away" Lucina grumbled, fiddling with her sleeve edge.

"Aww but my kitten," He pressed a soft kiss to the back of her ear, pulling her platinum locks from its ponytail "I missed talking with you"

She feels a chill run up her spine as his hands lock over her stomach, his embrace from behind getting a little too comfortable.

He rested his chin ontop of her head, smiling to himself as he says "You are so short, kitten"

"Stop calling me that" Lucina pushes him away.

"Stop calling you what?" A devilish smirk spead across his face and he pulled her back into his arms, he leans close and says in a purr-like whisper in her ear "Kitten?"

A silence engulphed the two, neither knowing how to continue. Loki leaned close, feeling her breath on his lips making his smirk widen even more. A grin upon his face as his lips brush hers for a moment before she jumps away at the door swinging open.

"Hey, Luce?" Wanda calls, just having opened the door, not yet sensing the tension she just shattered "Do you think you could do me a favour?"

"Sure" Lucina nods, following Wanda out, leaving Loki standing there alone on the roof.

"Could you babysit the kids? Me and Vision were gonna go out for dinner" She asks with a huge smile.

"Uh sure" Lucina says in an uneasy tone "Is that a good idea? I'm not very...PG friendly"

"You'll do fine" Wanda smiles, chucking slightly "Just try not to set anyone on fire"

"I'll try"

"And try not to punch anything"

"I'll try"

"Oh and don't swear infront of the kids"

"Oooh" Lucina sucked her teeth with a sarcastic tone "No can do, Wands"

"Lucina-"

"I'm kidding," she grins "I'll do it"

-----

Bucky stormed out the hanger followed closely by Steve.

"Hey Buck"

Silence and stomping.

"Bucky"

Silence and more stomping.

"James Buchanan Barnes"

Bucky froze and turned to face Steve, uttering a pissed off "Yes?"

"Why are you being weird?" Steve asks as he and Bucky sit down in the common room on the battered old sofa.

"I'm not" Bucky said, defensively.

Steve scoffed a little "Sure, okay" And the room fell back to silence.

"I've not been weird"

"'Kay"

"I've been totally normal"

"Sure"

"I don't know what you're on about"

"Whatever you say, Buck"

"You're the weird one"

And silence took over again.

Steve looked over to his friend who was sitting with his head in his hands. Even back when they were kids Bucky was impossible to read, and now it wasn't easier by any scale of the imagination.

Bucky's head spun with the thoughts of silvery hair and the strong yet comforting scent of coconut and flowers. She never left his head. Every night the same horrific dream and every day the same sweet nightmare over and over like a plaguing cough.

He loved her. That's all there was to know but too much to comprehend.

His heart ached with it's own tears as he knew he could never have her. She'd never be in his arms. Never again.

"I love her Steve" He croaked hoarsely, not sure of how else to word it but too exhausted to hide it.

Steve sat up straighter, his eyes widening in surprise still evident in his voice as he asked "Who?"

"Does it matter?" Bucky whined, looking to Steve as pain ate at his heart.

"Yes, Buck. I need some context to help you" He rested his hand over Bucky's cold, metal fingers.

"I can't ever tell her, Steve," Bucky says, choking back the cry that lodged in his throat "I can't ever love her so you don't need to know"

Steve had never seen his friend so distraught before, glancing around the room with slight hesitation before he asked "Why can't you tell her?"

"What?" Bucky looked up at him, his hoarse voice cracking at the word.

"Why can't you tell her?" Steve repeated.

Bucky opened his mouth to speak but no sound escaped that wasn't a sob. Steve put his arm around him, surprised when he didn't flinch, and pulled him into a hug.

A soft singing sound started to drift throughout the compound.

"Sol hu in oculis eius lunam ferit,"

The voice was sweet and captivating, it could only belong to one person in the compound.

"Avis cantat canticum matutini dune,"

It continued, the siren song drawing Bucky amd Steve down the adjacent hallway.

"Cor in manibus eius cum arena cruentat,"

The door of Billy and Tommy's room was open, letting the song freely flow through the compound.

Bucky and Steve get to the door, peering into the room with curiosity peaking.

A fort crafted from a white sheet over two chairs had formed in the middle of the small room.

Under the blanket were the sleeping Billy-who had his leg over Tommy's stomach, Tommy-who had his hand over Billy's chin, Morgan-who sat asleep on the barely awake Peter's lap as Lucina sang them the song.

"Et cum clamaret ad eum exaudivit de ea,"

Steve watched on for a moment, then looking to Bucky only to find him gazing at the back of her head with apparent love in his eyes, transfixed by what he saw and heard.

Steve knowingly smiled to himself, before looking back as Lucina finished the song.

"Pauper clamat sicut amor vitae suae ad inferos navigat"

Lucina smiled down at the sleeping faces of her nephews and Morgan. She wasn't sure how she got roped into baby sitting them all but she didn't mind. Peter was a sweet kid, she hoped he wouldn't have to suffer.

"You're a very good singer" She hears the voice of Captain America behind her, making her turn, now seeing Bucky in the doorway too, "Was that sokovian?"

"Latin" She says in a hushed tone, standing up from the floor.

Bucky says nothing, his face had hardened aside a glimmer of something unspoken ever present in his eyes.

Steve looks to Bucky for a brief moment before turning to Lucina "What is it in English?"

She hesitates, looking down at her shoes before back up at them and saying "The sun hits the-"

"Nope, sing it" Steve grins teasingly as he sits on one of the twins' beds in anticipation.

Bucky stayed in the doorway, his eyes not leaving her as she started to sing again.

"The sun hits the moon with a smile in his eyes,
The bird sings the song of the morning dune,
The heart in his hand, bleeds with the sand,
As the man in the moon cries out for her,
The poor man does cry as the love of his life sets sail for hell"

Everyone goes quiet before Bucky speaks up "Did you write that?"

"My mother did" Lucina says, her voice so quiet it was barely able to be heard.

"Beautiful song, my pet" the cold voice of Loki appeared behind her aswell as his cold hands on her waist.

Steve watches as Bucky's jaw hardens and his gaze turns into a glare at Loki as he watches him nuzzle into Lucina's neck.

Lucina says nothing as she feels his breath against her neck, unsure of how to react but not willing to move away.

"Care to join me for dinner tommorow night?" Loki asked, holding eye contact with Bucky as he continued to hold Lucina from behind.

"Uh, yeah okay" She says, unsure of her words even while she ways them.

"Good girl" He whispers to her, delicately against her ear "Don't bother to change your clothes, I have something in mind"

With a confident kiss to her cheek, Loki leaves, giving Bucky a smirk while he does.

Lucina looks at Steve and Bucky in painful anticipation of their reaction.

Steve had a supportive expression, masking his disapproval with a friendly smile.

Bucky, on the other hand, was not good at that. He scowled in an almost vicious way, rising to his feet and approaching Lucina.

He leant down to her height, trying to intimidate her but she was unphased by the proximity and the man.

"What the fuck was that?" He growled on a low voice.

Lucina meets her green eyes to his blue ones, she takes a deep breath like she's about to yell but instead; she exhale carefully and whispers back- quoting herself "Do you think I'm beautiful now?"

A lump formed in Bucky's throat, forcing it down and coming to his senses he spat back at her "When did I ever?"

Lucina's glassy eyes dive into his, in a single stare, a cacophony of frustration and unbearable tension suddenly bubbled into something so foul feeling that I can be seen as hatred.

Was it hatred?

-----

You'd think two adults- one over 100 years old mind you- would be civil even when in a position like Lucina and Bucky were in.

But no.

"LUCINA!" Bucky yelled as he chased after her down the hall in only his boxers, water slowly dripping down his half dried torso "Give me my clothes back now!"

"Nope!" She said with a cackle, sprinting faster away from him down the hallway and into the avengers common room.

She bursts through the door, interrupting the card game currently being played by Bruce, Tony, Vision, Pietro, Steve, Natasha and Wanda.

"Hey!" She says with a cheery wave hiding the super soldier's clothes behind her back "How's it be going?"

"Good" Natasha says, a half skeptical, half quizzical look on her face at whatever Lucina was holding behind her back.

Bucky burst into the room-only covered by his blue boxers, an important note would be the captain america shield pattern on said boxers.

"Lucina I swear-" He began, but when feeling all the eyes on the room, trailed off.

He looked down at his chest, his eyes following the trail of the scar where he'd once been stabbed decorating his stomach. He tried to look at his arm, the start of the metal arm where flesh and metal met, but he couldn't.

He looked up at Lucina, who's smirk faded when she saw the tears on the brim of his eyes.

"Bucky-"

He snatched the clothes, not bothering to let her explain or for anyone to make a comment before storming out.

Lucina looks down at her shoes, silently berating herself, before looking to the group.

Every person in the room went quiet, as if they all felt Bucky's pain by seeing him.

-----

"Anyone talked to Barnes yet?" Tony asked, slowly sipping from his coffee mug while leaning on the kitchen counter.

"No. Won't talk to me" Sam responded, taking a big bite of his buttered toast "Not even talking to Steve.

The two men's eyes flickered to the silent Lucina, the woman clutching a cold glass of apple juice.

She stared into the cup, swirling the almost golden liquid around against the glass before taking a sip. A blue glow swirling from her hand reached into the glass, picking up a frozen cube of ice that she put into her mouth.

"That's supposed to be bad for your teeth" Tony remarked.

Lucina looked up at the man "And coffee is good?"

Tony opened his mouth to respond, but stopping himself, instead choosing to take a long sip from his mug.

The kitchen door creaked loudly, a metal hand dragging it open.

Bucky stepped into the room, his eyes immediately locking on Lucina. He stalked towards her, leaving close to her face, so close she could smell the minty toothpaste on his breath as he whispered "I hope you understand how much I hate you"

She said nothing, unphased by the proximity and the tone of his words.

Bucky scowled, unblinking as the two engaged in an intensely lomg stare off.

Sam and Tony share a slight grin, both pulling out their phones.

Staring at her tears in the mirror as they fall down her face, Lucina tried to fix the makeup now smeared across her cheeks.

Why did she agree to this date?

Was it even a date?

Loki asked for dinner, with flirtatious insinuations, so is that a date?

Or do you need to say date for it to be a date?

She had no idea why she was crying, nor why she had a tightening knot in her stomach every time she thought about her and Loki's kiss.

She'd forgotten about that, let it slip her mind while Bucky took over her thoughts.

And there lies the other problem-the ever stubborn Bucky.

Whatever feelings she thought she had, now was a burning hatred that seared through her chest.

Lucky for her it seemed Bucky had a change of heart too.

A knock on her door snapped her from her thoughts. She looked to the door, unable to make herself move.

Another knock rang through.

Then another.

Them a voice.

"Lucina?" A small pause rang out before he called again "Pet?"

The voice and nick name made her stomach knot tighten so rapidly she wanted to throw up.
"Are you there?"

After more silence, Loki blasted open the door of her room, his green magic pressing the door open, revealing him in a sharply ironed suit-completely black aside a dark green tie he adorned upon his chest.

Lucina was shaking her head at the figure, trying to calm herself from whatever the fuck was making her so dramatic. Loki sighed, his mind reading through her thoughts as he carefully placed the bouquet of green roses down on her bed.

He carefully sits beside her on the floor, hesitating before saying "You love him?"

The statement was said in a half questioning fashion, causing her to shake her head.

"No."

"Do you love me?"

"No."

Loki nodded, his tongue kissing the back of his teeth.

"Okay"

Lucina's head snapped to attention "Okay? That's it?"

"You want a hissy fit, p- Lucina?" He teased, patting her shoulder.

"You're the guy who attacked New York with an alien army all after a spat with your brother" She half laughed, wiping any remaining tears "So, just 'okay' was not what I was expecting"

"First of all, that's not an accurate explanation of what happened." Loki said with a small smile and a chuckle "Second of all, I was mind-controlled by Thanos"

"Thanos?"

"Yeah" He responded in a solem tone.

"I'm sorry"

"For Rejecting me or for me being controlled by a purple grape?"

"Definitely both" Lucina said, staring at her stretched out feet.

"Friends?" Loki asked, holding a hand out for her to shake "I promise not to be...odd."

"Friends" Lucina responded, shaking his hand "and its okay to be odd. Being odd is...alright"

"Alright" Loki nodded on response, trying to hide his disappointment. "You can keep the roses"

"Thanks" Lucina said, about to say she preferred tulips but building a social filter was definitely on her to-do list so she stayed quiet.

"I'll see you round, Lucina" Loki said, cutting off the silent with a nod and leaving Lucina to herself.

-----

??? years later...

The metal armed man stood painfully still, his eyes focused and unblinking.

The church bell sang it's solem song that echoed throught he graveyard, sticking to Bucky's ears like a grotesque honey.

He didn't move. He didn't say a word. He didn't smile.

The name over the grave he had to read over and over and over a million times trying to even comprehend what it said, but no matter how many times he read it he couldn't accept it. Not this.

The thought of her being out of his reach made his stomach churn and knot until grief seeped from its guts.

The day was cold, soft snow rested on the tombstone aswell as Bucky's black coat as he stood frozen in the grass. Snow landed on his eyelashes, making him finally move to brush it away so he could continue his obsessive reading.

Something caught his eye. A head of silvery blonde hair on a short body came walking towards him.

She stood beside him, looking at the headstone like he was, linking his hand around her arm.

"I have something for you"

Bucky didn't respond.

She sighs, pulling an envelope from her pocket and handing it to Bucky.

He hesitated. Looking to the paper but the second he saw the familiar handwriting he took it in his metal hand.

He turned it over, too scared to touch the paper with his non-metal hand incase it would melt away at the touch of his true flesh.

This was all he had left.

He turned to the blonde beside him, who was watching him intently, pulling out her own letter.

"At the same time?"

All he could muster is a nod in response.

"Should we read each other's?"

And she got the same response.

They swap letters, both taking a moment before peeling the envelope open and seeing the contents.
