Chapter 4
~3rd person p.o.v~
Rin took Kari in his room and Yukio called Katsumi. “Katsumi Himura? Hi this is Kari’s cram school teacher Yukio Okumura, we have found Kari Himura, your sister, with a chest wound and wanted to ask of your permission to perform some medical treatment.” Katsumi panicked.
“Yes please help her~!! Please help my sister!” Yukio said thank you and hung up.
“Rin put Kari on a bottom bunk, and get the first aid kit hurry, the wound looks fatal if we don’t treat it quickly!” Rin nodded and set Kari down on his bed. She groaned in pain. Rin rushed to get the first aid kit and Yukio examined her wound. When Rin was back Yukio was ready for the kit. “Thank you.” Rin sat and watched as Yukio patched up Kari.
“Is she gonna be ok?” Rin seemed concerned about Kari which was unusual. Yukio chuckled lightly.
“A glass shard got stuck in her chest. That’s all.” Yukio tightened the bandage around Kari’s chest and got up. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to go pick up some herbs from Shieme’s to help the healing process. You stay here ok?” Rin nodded and Yukio left. Shieme was another cram school student who had blond hair in a bob cut kind of style. Her mom owned a store that helped exorcists with supplies.
“She’s such an idote… how’d she manage to do that?” Rin mumbled to himself. Kari groaned. She seemed sad for some reason. “Kari…” Rin just stared at her a little worried. A while later when Yukio was back they heard a crash.
“Rin stay here.” Yukio loaded his gun. “I’ll be back.” Rin growled and almost protested but he stayed and kept an eye on Kari.
“Fine…” Rin sat on the bed across from Kari. Yukio screamed from down the hall. Rin grabbed his sword, glanced at Kari then went for the door. Kari’s eyes bolted open.
“Gitai no ken, here~” her sword whooshed toward her and she caught it. “Let’s go.” When Rin looked to the bed where Kari was she was gone. He panicked then heard her scream in rage.
“KARI?!” he went to help. To his surprise she won the fight and was checking on Yukio.
“Kari! Yukio!” Rin rushed toward them. She glanced at Rin then back to Yukio.
“He’s out cold but not hurt.” She got up and started to go home. “Thanks… for the help. I mean the wound.” She went home. When she was at her dorm she got scolded by her sister. “I’m fine ok?” Kari seemed depressed for some reason.
“Ok… just don’t let it happen again~!”
“Ok.” Kari sat on her bed. ‘I can’t remember a thing about when I was about four or younger… all I remember is… THAT!’ is all she could think about. A while later when Katsumi was gone she got a splitting head ach.
~Kari’s flashback~
“MAMA PAPA~! WE’RE HOME!” called a three year old Kari.
“Welcome home Kari, Katsumi how was school?” called their mother, Mikomi Himura, from the kitchen.
“I hated it!” Kari groaned and set her bag down.
“I thought it was ok.” Katsumi put hers down next to Kari’s.
“Well, that was expected.” Mikomi came out of the hot kitchen. Kari groaned and went outside with something in her hand.
“I’m gonna go practice! Don’t bother me!” she climbed a tree and played a beautiful song from her ocarina.
“That’s beautiful Kari.” Mikomi called from the kitchen window. Kari blushed and stopped playing the song.
“You-you think so mom?” her mom smiled and nodded.
“Please, keep going.” Kari smiled and her eyes sparkled.
“Ok~!” she played until dinner was ready.
“Oh boy dinner~!” called Katsumi. Kari scurried down the tree she was in and raced in the house and to the dinner table.
“Thanks for the food mom!” she called in unison with Katsumi. They all ate happily. After dinner the twins ran outside to play.
“Be careful you two!” called Lynx their dad.
“We will!” they yelled joyfully in unison. An hour or so passed and Kari and Katsumi went home. When they got to their home, the monastery, they were shocked to find a demon attacking their home. Kari growled and yelled at it.
“GET AWAY FROM MY PARENTS YOU BIG MEANIE!!!” she ran after it. Her body covered in blood red flames, she had claws and fangs of a demon, a white lion like tail, slit pupils, long pointed ears, and a small circle of blue in her blood-ruby red eyes. The demon smirked.
“You are the one… the one who will help save Assiah… the red flames shall--“the demon disappeared in a puff of smoke before it could finish.
“Red flames shall… what?” Kari was a little scared at what just happened. She turned to her parents for answers. “M-mom, d-dad… what’s going on!?” they grabbed her by the arms, pulled her into a hug.
“Forgive us for what is about to happen Kari… we’re sorry.” They grabbed a sword called Gitai no ken, a hat, a cat bell, and a key. They laid Kari down on her back. “We now seal thy memories in this sacred hat, thy strength in this bell, thy demonic power in this sword. Thy key is for the return of these three. Once found and brought together then and only then will this seal be unlocked. May the path of thou destiny be reveled once more, and may you know what to do whence the time comes.” They chanted this and after that Kari was out cold. Mikomi and Lynx looked to their other daughter Katsumi. “Katsumi, this must be kept quiet ok? Never EVER tell anyone about to night. Understand?” Katsumi nodded at her mother. “Good girl.” They took Kari to her room and put her in bed. “Sleep well Kari…”
~end of flash back~
Kari had remembered everything about that night. “They- why’d they do that?” Kari’s eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty.
“They did it because they loved you Kari.” Katsumi came in. “they didn’t want you to feel different…” she sat next to Kari and hugged her. “They wanted what’s best for you… they did…” Kari just sat there. “It’s time to go to bed ok?” Kari yawned and nodded.
“Ok, night sis…” Kari sounded a little depressed.
“Night, sleep well.” Katsumi left and Kari plopped down on her bed.
“the red flames will what?” Kari could only think of what that demon said ‘the red flames shall--- the red flames shall--- the red flames--- red flames--- red flames--- red flames---‘ it echoed through her head all through the night.
