Chapter Thirty-Five
Two weeks later...
Jesse helped Colt into Dana's bed. They thought her place would be easier on him for his recovery since once he was in the apartment it was all one level.
Colt groaned as he sought to get comfortable. "This sucks."
"You're still weak," Jesse told him.
"I'll show you who's weak," Colt growled.
"Oh, good, you're getting better," Jesse said with a smile.
"He better, I've been waiting very patiently for him to do so," Dana said, coming into the room.
"I don't want you to see me like this," Colt told her.
"Too bad. What's the saying, 'to have and to hold, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health until death do us part'," she said, leaning over to kiss him on the lips.
"I do," he smiled, kissing her back.
"I guess you'll be needing this then," Jesse told them, placing the box he'd been carrying around in his pocket into Colt's hand.
"What do you say, Dane?" Colt asked, opening the box. "Will you marry me?"
Dana put her index finger to her chin. "I think I asked you first."
Colt chuckled. "Did you now? Well, I did say 'I do'. I didn't hear you say anything back. So, what do you say?"
Dana grinned, kissed him on the nose, "Yes. But remember, I asked you first."
Colt smiled back, "So, it's going to be like that, is it?"
"I love you," Dana said, climbing into the bed next to him.
"I love you too."
Jesse looked between the both of them. "On that note, I'm out of here. Let me know when you're ready to move into the garage apartment. It's almost ready for move in. I got the occupancy permit. It just needs some paint and other last minute touchups."
"When I sell my townhouse," Colt responded, putting an arm around Dana.
She gasped, "You'd sell your house?"
"You want to move in next to Jesse, right?"
Dana glanced up at Jesse, biting her lip. "Well, yeah..."
"The plans you made for the apartment work fine for me, Dana. As long as you don't mind me and Buddy moving in."
"Are you sure?"
"Until we're ready to have kids, yeah. And we could probably still live there while the kids are little anyway...."
Dana grinned. "You want kids?"
"With you? Of course. We need more little Dana's in the world."
"And little Colt's."
"Oh dear, God, no," Jesse groaned.
"Get out of here so we can work on a cousin for your kid," Colt told him, pulling the blanket over his and Dana's heads.
"Summer!" Jesse yelled, leaving the room, shutting the door behind him.
Dana giggled and kissed Colt under the blanket. He slipped the ring on her finger. "You sure about marrying me? I'm pretty messed up."
"I think you're perfect."
Colt laughed. "Hardly. But I'll take the compliment. From past experience, I know you don't give them out so easily."
She ran her hand lightly over his chest. "Not to you anyway."
He kissed her, "Not to me. And that's okay. I don't expect you to. We'll have our ups and downs, Dana, but there's no one I'd rather enjoy the rollercoaster of life with more than you."
"Aw....that's got to be the sweetest thing you've ever said to me."
"Yeah, well, I've gotten sappy having fallin' for you and all."
"I fell for you just as hard."
"Weren't we going to do something?" Colt raised an eyebrow.
Dana gave him a look. "You're supposed to be resting."
"I'm supposed to be getting busy with my woman." Colt pushed the covers off their heads and put his arms behind his head. "You can do all the work. Doctor's orders."
"You're not supposed to get all worked up."
"I'm not working. You will be."
"Excited then," Dana corrected then.
"I'm not excited." Colt put on a straight face.
"Yeah, you look it," Dana scoffed.
Colt rearranged his pillows behind his back. "I'm going to be stuck in bed for the next couple of weeks, what do you expect me to do?"
"There's a documentary on PBS about the migration habits of dolphins."
"Mating habits?" he asked interestedly.
"Migration habits!" Dana pushed his shoulder gently.
Colt picked up the remote and handed it to her. "Here. Find something."
Dana gasped. "You're giving me the power of the remote control?"
Colt grinned. "It must be love."
She nodded wisely. "No other explanation for it."
"Don't get used to it though..."
"Yeah, here it comes..."
"I mean, a guy has to have some standards...."
"What about a girl? If you think all I'm watching is sports, you have another thing coming."
"If you think I'm watching all romantic comedies, you have another thing coming, my beautiful wife."
Dana laid her head on his shoulder. "At least, you called me beautiful."
Colt rubbed a hand down her arm. "I did. I also called you my wife. Did you notice?"
"I noticed. But we're not married yet," she said, changing the channel.
"Not yet," Colt agreed. "Next week?"
Dana ran a hand over his chest, feeling the bandages under his tee-shirt. "You won't be better next week."
"Okay, one month?"
She smiled, liking he didn't want to wait long. "Sure, a month."
He kissed the top of her head. "One month," he agreed and grabbed the remote from her hand.
"Hey!"
"You were taking too long," he complained. He pressed the button for Netflix and loaded up a romantic comedy.
"I knew I loved you."
"Yeah, you can keep saying that," he chuckled.
"I love you, Colt."
"I love you, Dana. Now, shut up and watch the damn movie."
She laughed, "You shut up."
"You were the one talking."
She scoffed. "I was telling you I loved you."
Colt laughed. "See, we've always loved each other." He ruffled her hair. "Years of foreplay."
Dana chuckled. "Yeah, we have. And I suppose it was. Now, watch the 'damn movie'."
"Yes, honey."
