Chapter Seven

"Can I say I told you so, please?" he asked as they walked out the doors of the restaurant and Dana's arms came quickly around herself to block her exposed skin from the cold wind.

The trees, bushes, and partitions as well as a bunch of people's body heat had kept the patio warm. Now, she was completely exposed to the elements.

"Do, and I'll never have dinner with you again," she said shivering.

Colt took off his jacket and wrapped it around her. She looked at him in shock.

"See? I'm not such a bad guy, right?" he said, throwing an arm around her and walked her to the car.

"You're slowly climbing up the scale," she answered, still shivering under his jacket.

Or was she shivering because she was under his arm? Their bodies brushed as they walked and she felt the warmth of his body next to hers. She couldn't say she minded it.

Maybe a year ago, heck, a month ago, but not now. Now, she wanted to stay under his arm. She wanted to feel his warm body against hers. She wanted to smell the scent of his cologne that made her insides quiver.

Colt opened the car door and she climbed in thankful for the separation between them. He squatted down and looked at her deep in the eyes sending a deeper kind of shiver through her.

"I'll tell you a secret," He said to her, his eyes twinkling mischievously.

"What?" she asked softly, her eyes falling into his.

He smiled and leaned forward, his eyes never leaving hers. Diana's heart hammered in her chest. Was he going to kiss her?! Did she want him to?

Colt slowly and gently brushed some of her hair across her shoulder. Dana sucked in a breath at his touch. His lips brushed her ear as he intimately whispered, "The seats are heated."

Dana laughed in surprise and shock. She didn't know what she expected him to whisper in her ear, but it wasn't that. And damn it, it was still seductive as hell.

Colt squeezed her shoulder before standing up and shutting the door.

Dana concentrated on her breathing while he walked around the back of the car.

Colt climbed in the driver's seat and started the car. He slid a panel on the box in between their seats.

He flipped a switch on the dashboard and she started to feel heat slowly crawl into her body from the seat and the heated fans he pointed in her direction.

"I want your car," Dana moaned when she started warming up.

"Sorry. All mine," he said with a grin.

"Okay, this moves you up a few more notches," she said, closing her eyes, enjoying the heat.

"How much more above scum is that?"

Dana laughed a nice sweet laugh. It was nice to hear. Colt had heard it before but not like that. Not from something he said.

"I think you've risen above scum. At least for now."

Colt smiled. "Hmm... you think I might fall?"

"You're a man."

"Ut-oh. There's bitterness there," he teased.

"Why shouldn't there be?" she demanded.

He cursed himself. "Jeremy?"

"I prefer you don't mention that name, please." Dana crossed her arms over her chest.

"Okay," he said understandably. "What'd he do anyway?" He damn well knew what the bastard had done, but it would be nice if Dana confided in him about it.

"For someone who doesn't like to get personal, you're getting pretty personal."

"That's when it's about me."

"Ah." Dana answered, but didn't answer his question.

Colt glanced at the clock on his dashboard. "You mind if we stop somewhere before I take you home?"

"Sure. Why not? Where?" She looked up as she felt the car pull in another direction.
