Chapter 80
"Arthit, will you be staying? I have an early flight tomorrow morning, so I won't be able to stay. I'm going to Shanghai in place of Kongpob. If you can't, I will call Sachi to come over." Sonya asked Arthit.
"No. Arthit is busy. He shouldn't be here. Don't call anyone. No one needs to stay. I'm fine." Kongpob said with his eyes closed to keep the light out.
"I could stay. I want to stay. Don't worry." Arthit quickly came closer to Sonya.
Sonya gave her son one more kiss on the cheek, and then looked at Arthit. She gave Arthit's arm a squeeze, and sighed before stepping aside. There's not much she can do. They need to work things out, and hopefully soon. Thank goodness this accident it's not too serious.
"Arthit, can you call Nina to inform her of Kongpob's status after I leave. I don't want to deal with her screaming and squealing. Also, don't let her crush my son." Sonya said as she puts on her jacket, and headed for the door.
"Sure. I'll give her a call." Arthit agreed with a soft smile.
"Okay. Son, I will check on you tomorrow before I leave. Please be careful, and get some rest. I will be back as soon as possible. Goodnight you two." Sonya said leaving the lovers to their quarrel.
"Goodnight." Arthit replied.
"Goodnight mother."
Arthit walked closer to Kongpob once Sonya left the room.
"Kongpob, do you need anything. Do you want some water? Are you hungry?"
"No. I'm not thirsty or hungry. I'm too nauseous to stomach anything. You really don't need to stay. I'll be fine."
"But I want to stay. I want to help you." Arthit looked down. He knew Kongpob was upset with him.
"You don't need my help, and I don't need yours. We don't need each other." Kongpob said exactly what he felt.
"Kongpob, please. I'm sorry. Don't push me away."
"Am I really the one doing the pushing? You know what? I can't. My head hurts too much for this." Kongpob's head is throbbing. The last thing he needs is to start crying. How pathetic would that be?
"Kongpob, no. I know I'm stupid for not letting you help me. But can you understand what it feels like to be me? It's like, you walk into my life, and suddenly you fix everything for me. I feel so useless. You even offered to practically support my mother and sister. It's not like we're ever getting married. They are not your problems."
Shit. Where did that come from? Arthit didn't know why he blurted that last part out. Although, he does feel like there's some truth to that. Knot had all but inherited Neem's mother's medical bills since they've gotten married. Not that Knot ever complained.
"Aren't we boyfriends? Shouldn't we help each other? Should I feel useless if I let you help me? You know, since I'm am invalid right now? Oh, and you don't want my help because we're not married. Am I getting this right?" Kongpob has finally opened his eyes seething with frustration. Even though he can't really see Arthit's face, he can make out his shadow next to him.
"That's not what I'm saying. Just forget the last part. Okay?" Arthit leaned closer, and tugged the sleeve of Kongpob's hospital gown.
"No. I want Out if you already have one foot out the door. If you are never going to marry me, then what's the point of all of this. You should just go. I need to get some rest."
Kongpob closed his eyes again. He doesn't even know what he is really saying. Marriage really hasn't even crossed his mind, but that's only because they are still so early in their relationship. However, hearing Arthit already rejecting the notion of marriage pisses him off. Isn't finding a lifetime partner the end goal in having a relationship? It might not mean marriage for some people, but it definitely does for him. He has more than enough to juggle in his life already. He really doesn't have time for heartbreaks, and tears. Why wait to end it later when he falls even deeper?
Kongpob felt like he was losing his cool, and he was starting to sound desperate even to himself. He hated what he has let himself become. He can't believe he even got into this stupid accident. He pulled the covers over his head. He has had enough. His fucking headache is getting worse. His whole body is sore. To hell with all this.
Arthit felt his heart pang. There's this tight and heaviness constricting his every breath. Tears threatened to spill over his cheeks.
"No. I don't want Out. It's too early for marriage, and it's just too much for boyfriends. I feel like I would owe you too much. Can't you understand that? I'm not saying I would never marry you." Arthit tried to pull the covers away from Kongpob, but the latter held on tightly.
"Fine. I will take your offer. I will move my mother and sister to your vacant house. Okay? Please talk to me? Can you come out now? Please?" Arthit yanked on the covers again, and Kongpob released his hold. However, Kongpob kept his eyes closed.
Arthit leaned over, and planted a kiss on Kongpob's lips. Kongpob didn't kiss back, but he didn't push him away either. Arthit took that as a positive sign.
"So, I guess I am a damsel, and you are my mighty Ironman." Arthit tried to joke, hoping to get Kongpob to talk to him.
Kongpob opened his eyes, and looked towards Arthit. That really irked him. "Damsel? Does letting me help you really make you any less of a man? And even if you don't want my offer, can't you at least talk to me? I would never make you do anything you don't want. Is it really that hard for you to understand? Tell me this, if the shoe was on the other foot, and I was the one that had a problem, wouldn't you try to help me?"
Arthit took a deep breath. "Yes. I would in a heartbeat. I know what you are trying to say. I have just been dealing with my life on my own all this time. It's.... it's hard to rely on someone else. It would hurt too much when that person walks away." Arthit spoke the truth. He had nothing to lose but Kongpob right now.
"Arthit, I'm not going anywhere. I really can't even if I tried at the moment." Kongpob rubbed his left leg with the cast.
"I know. I just have to get used to that. Thank you. I love you." Arthit leaned in for another gentle kiss, and this time Kongpob kissed him back.
Arthit pulled away, and caressed Kongpob's face. Kongpob closed his eyes again. His headache isn't getting any better.
"Why weren't you more careful? Thak told me you could have avoided this. Was it because of me? It's my fault. Isn't it?" Arthit held Kongpob's hand.
"I just had a lot on my mind. I should have paid more attention. Don't blame yourself. I'll be good as new in no time."
"It could have been worse. Thank God you are okay."
"Why? You're afraid of becoming a widow already?" Kongpob jokes chuckling.
"Shut up. Stop talking nonsense. You have no idea how scared I was." Arthit silently sheds the tears he had held back all day.
This whole day was a lot for him too. From seeing his broken mother to the mess his father caused to the fear of losing Kongpob.
A drop of tear landed on Kongpob's hand before Arthit could wipe it away. Kongpob opened his eyes to look at Arthit. He squeezed them a few times to try to see clearer, but to no avail.
"Hey, I'm just kidding. Please don't cry. I'll be more careful. I promise. Come here." Kongpob opened his arms for Arthit to hug him. He didn't care that his body was too sore for any body contact. His boyfriend needed reassuring, and that's what he will get.
Arthit wiped away his tears with the back of his hand, and leaned over. He buried his face in the crook of Kongpob's neck. Kongpob's scent has been mixed with the scent of antiseptics, and hospital linens, but it was still the most comforting scent to Arthit.
Kongpob tried to wrap his arms around Arthit the best as he can with all the tubes that were hooked up to him. Even though only his left leg was broken, his body was still bruised from being thrown off his bike. So, even the little weight that Arthit was applying to his body was painful to him. However, he knew Arthit needed this, and honestly, he did too.
Clack.
"Kongpob! Are you okay?" Nina suddenly came in, and rushed over to the two men.
Arthit was startled, and immediately jumped aside as Nina rushed over like a typhoon in full panic mode.
Nina's hair was wet. Her white t-shirt was soaked from her damp hair making her shirt see-through at the front. Her lacy bra was very visible to anyone looking her way. She had no makeup on, yet she was stunningly beautiful.
"Nina, I'm fine. Calm down." Kongpob can't see her clearly, but he can already tell his aunt was a complete mess by her voice. This also meant his grandparents will soon be here too. And that's not even the worst yet. He really can't deal with Grandma Suthilak right now.
"Kongpob, how did this happen?.... huhu....will you walk again?.... huhu...." Nina cried looking at Kongpob's cast.
Nina leaned over to kiss Kongpob's cheek with tears streaming down her face. She laid her head on his shoulder.
"Nina, I'm not dying. I'll walk again. I promise." Kongpob tried to pat his aunt on the shoulder, and push her hair back with his other hand. Her hair was tickling his neck.
If Nina wasn't Kongpob's aunt, Arthit doesn't know if he would be able to watch someone get this close to his boyfriend.
Nina wiped her tears, and got up. "At least you are still handsome."
"Yeah, thank God for that. Otherwise, my boyfriend might leave me." Kongpob chuckled.
"Kongpob!" Arthit called out blushing.
"Nina, who told you I was in the hospital?" Kongpob asked. He didn't think Arthit had called her yet.
"Luke. I made him promise to tell me your whereabouts since the Tokyo disappearance last time." Nina said wiping her tears.
"Sorry. Sonya told me to call you, but I didn't get a chance yet." Arthit admitted guiltily.
"Hmm, Luke has been awfully loud lately. Not so much a fly on the wall anymore. I'm not sure that's a good thing or not." Kongpob added. He is sure Luke wouldn't divulge any of his critical information to just anyone. But it's still odd that a man that speaks less than fifty words a day is all the sudden talking so much.
"Please don't give him a hard time. I made him promise to tell me." Nina explained.
"Now, how or when did you meet my bodyguard alone?" Kongpob asked curiously. He knew a lot of women in his office, and the building for that matter admired Luke. Apparently, that statue of a man was appealing to some. Hmm. He wondered.
At first Arthit was worried that Luke was in trouble, but now he has caught onto what Kongpob is trying to ask. A silly smile makes its way to his face. Nina and Luke would make a hot couple. The dramatic damsel in distress, and the hot bodyguard. It's just like a novel.
"It's nothing like that. It's almost impossible to get a single word out of that man. He only texted me that you were in this hospital. That's all. He wouldn't even respond to any questions I had sent. And I had sent at least twenty." Nina tried to explain with a slight blush decorating her porcelain skin that only Arthit can see at the moment.
"Mmhmm. I believe you. But I have to warn you. If he proposes too, you are going to have to say yes. I don't want to lose my bodyguard because of you." Kongpob said shaking his head only to regret that move instantly. Damn headache.
"It's not like that!" Nina stomped her foot.
Arthit chuckled at the two of them. They really were more like siblings.
"Not you too, Arthit!" Nina pouted folding her arms.
While the three were bickering and teasing each other inside the room, a man stood outside with a smirk on his face.
