Chapter 120

(AN: Don't play music until indicated.)

Now that the dust has settled, Kongpob and Arthit are finally left alone to enjoy their honeymoon. The past six months felt like a whirlwind circus to Arthit. At times, it got so stressful that he wanted to just call everything off. Just staying as they were would have been fine with him but then the very thought of being able to wake up every day and calling Kongpob his husband kept him going.

Initially, Kongpob had suggested eloping somewhere, just the two of them. Arthit was more than happy about that. That is until they told Sonya about their engagement and plans. Sonya was happy for them but Arthit could see the flash of disappointment on Sonya's face when Kongpob said they plan to just elope. Sonya didn't say anything and respected their choice but Arthit knew it bothered her. Then a couple of days later Arthit went to his mother and sister's house to announce their engagement. Kongpob was busy that evening so he went alone but he didn't mind. He wanted to spend some time with them alone anyway. His mother and sister were more than ecstatic about the news. They even called Kohl right away to let him know too. Everyone was happy for them but Arthit couldn't get Sonya out of his mind. So he talked to his mother about it.

Flashback

"Arthit, I'm so happy for you. I haven't been the best mother and I've failed to protect you like a mother should have all these years. I'm so sorry. I thank Buddha every day that you are doing well and you have found your other half." Ploy smiles and looks at her son through the mirror and grabs a hold of her son's hand that's combing her hair.

"Mom, I don't think Kongpob's mother is very happy with our decision."

Ploy quickly turns around in her chair to face her child. "Why? I thought she has always liked you and she has been supportive of you and Kongpob this whole time."

"She was happy, mom. Sonya was very happy when we announced that we're engaged but then when Kongpob said that we plan to elope, I could see the disappointment in her eyes." Arthit casts his eyes down.

Ploy pulls Arthit to sit down on the bed next to her. "Arthit, as a mother myself, I think I can understand her. Kongpob is her only son. Her pride and joy. And from what you have told me, it wasn't easy for a woman like her to raise her son amongst wolves and thieves. So, it's only natural that she would want to see and be a part of such a milestone in her son's life. Even I would like to witness my son getting married."

"Do you think I'm robbing this from her? I mean, if I were a girl, I know this would be the wedding of the century. We haven't told the Ruangroj family yet but I can imagine that they would be disappointed too. I feel like I'm the reason for their disappointment."

Ploy nods and pushes Arthit's bangs behind his ear. She acknowledges the truth in her son's words. Someone of Kongpob's status would definitely have a wedding that makes headlines if he wasn't marrying another man, specifically her son. "Arthit, I understand what you're saying and I may even agree. However, you have failed to ask what Kongpob feels about all this. Maybe he really doesn't want a big wedding. I'm sure he's thought of all of this before proposing. He's a smart man so he knows what he's doing. And here's another question, say if Kongpob really is only choosing to elope because of you, would you also be willing to have a big wedding because of him?" Ploy sympathetically looks into her son's eyes.

End of flashback

Arthit thought about what his mother said all night. He knows love and marriage are just between the two of them but he doesn't want Kongpob to live with the guilt of disappointing his family, especially Sonya. He has come to really like and respect Sonya and he doesn't want to disappoint her too. And if Kongpob is willing to elope because of him, then he's also willing to go through a big wedding for Kongpob.

So, the next day Arthit suggested they have a grand wedding, and let's invite the whole world. However, what he didn't expect was Kongpob's dead silent blank expression. It was so quiet, Arthit can imagine crows croaking in the background.

Kongpob told him he didn't want all the attention and he prefers to keep his personal life private. Then they had an open and honest discussion about the matter. Arthit expressed his feelings of disappointing Kongpob's family and he feels like Kongpob is sacrificing too much to be with him. It makes him feel guilty and he also doesn't want Kongpob to live with the guilt of disappointing his family too.

Kongpob tells Arthit that love should not be put on a scale where either one of them keeps weighing to see who puts in more. Instead, love for him is about giving his all and he hopes Arthit does the same. Arthit didn't know he could love Kongpob any more than he already did until that moment.

Kongpob then admits that he too could feel his mother was a little disappointed but he really doesn't want a big wedding regardless of who he's marrying. He doesn't want the hassle or the attention, especially not the paparazzi's attention. He doesn't want the media to start digging around or dissecting every little thing they do. So after a long discussion about what they were both comfortable with, they decided on a small private wedding with only friends and family.

When they told Sonya, she was so elated she started crying and laughing while hugging both of them. So, there's no backing out now. At first, Kongpob's grandparents wanted to host the wedding at the Ruangroj mansion. It's fit for royalty after all and hosts a number of parties every year. However, due to Thailand's current legal standing on same-sex unions, the couple decided not to get wed in Thailand. Legality wouldn't have been an issue for the couple if it was just about them, but with little Kamron in the equation, they needed to think things through.

Bie suggested that they wed somewhere where same-sex marriage has already been legalized and established. So, they decided to get married in Spain. Kongpob already had residency in Spain since he owns multiple properties there and the country has legalized same-sex marriage since 2005. Once they get married in Spain, they can adopt Kamron as married Spanish residents. Then Kamron can easily get legal documents in Thailand due to parents being legal Thai citizens. It's killing two birds with one stone. This is how one works around the system.

The small wedding was held in a beautiful Spanish castle with all their close family and friends. The wedding had no more than fifty people. Alexa and Anjali coordinated everything down to the t. A private jet flew all of their guests to the wedding. And of course, Nina and Luke also flew over from Prague because there's no way they would miss this celebration. Knot and his wife Neem even brought their baby to the wedding. It was perfect for Kongpob and Arthit.

Arthit's gang of friends all came for his wedding. Prem was their appointed wedding photographer that captured every joyous and sweet moment of the event. Knot was Arthit's best man while Toota and Bright were groomsmen. M was Kongpob's best man. Bie and Thak were Kongpob's groomsmen. Davika designed their fabulous wedding tuxedos and the entire wedding party's attire to match the fabulous couple.

The wedding ceremony was set outside of the castle's beautiful courtyard where flowers and greens were blooming all around the place and climbing up the stone walls. Everything was perfect like a page from a fairy tale.

Kongpob and Arthit walked hand in hand together down the aisle with a smile to meet their officiant. All eyes were on the two blushing grooms.

Kamron and Popeye both donned matching tuxedos as ring bearers. Kamron walked down the aisle with Popeye on a leash but Popeye did all the heavy lifting since he had the rings on a mini pillow tied to his back. All the guests cooed at the adorable sight.

Looking into each other's eyes, the grooms exchanged their own vows. Confessing their love to one another in front of the whole world.

"Arthit, I have fallen. I have fallen without reserve. I have fallen without a safety net. You came into my life with no warning signs and I jumped without looking back. My life hasn't been the same ever since you came along. My world is singing a new song. Now, I smile because I am truly happy and I can cry without feeling weak. Only with you, I can be the real me. I lay my soul bare only for you to see and my heart only for you to keep. I have fallen so deeply in love with you, I have fallen all in you. My mind, my body, and my soul is now yours forevermore. Thank you for catching my fall and for this I give you my all. I promise to love and cherish you till the end of my time."

"Kongpob, I was lost but you found me. You saw me even when I was invisible. You heard me even when I was silent. The perfect you saw something in me that I never knew was there. You understand me better than myself. You never push me but you make me dare to dream. You make me want to be better than I am. You believe in me more than anyone ever has. I'm no longer lost and adrift because you have become my anchor, keeping me in place, my pillar, giving me strength, my haven, providing me warmth. You are my love, my home, and my world. I give you all of me unconditionally. I love you more than words can express so I will show you till my last breath."

They exchanged rings and sealed their vows with a passionate kiss and the crowd erupts in cheers. The mothers cry with tears of joy for their sons. Two souls have been tied and two families have now become one.

The rest of the ceremony and reception went without a hitch and everyone had a great time celebrating with the newlyweds. The whole wedding party and family stayed a whole week with the newlyweds in the castle. After the week was over, most returned back to Bangkok with the exception of a few that went on to travel to other parts of Europe. While Kongpob and Arthit stayed back for their month-long honeymoon.

~~~~~~
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Kongpob sits down next to his husband under the shades with two big glasses of sangria. He takes a sip of his glass before leaning back on his lounge chair. He eyes the letter sitting on top of the table. Arthit has been carrying it around the whole day since his mother gave it to him yesterday before leaving.
"Nothing and everything. I don't know." Arthit digs his feet deeper into the pristine white sands of the Sant Miquel Beach. They're only going to be in Barcelona for another two days before flying to Madrid and then to Seville. Then it's off to Switzerland and Arthit can't remember where after that. His husband will tell him again for sure. Ah, he likes the sound of calling Kongpob his husband. Arthit had never even fathomed the idea of ever getting married before Kongpob came along. But now he has a happy new family and that means the world to him. Whoever that's writing his fate, he wants to say thank you for the worst and happiest day of his life when he got royally dumped and then literally crashed into his husband. Who knew his life would turn out this way?
"What are you smiling about?" Kongpob asks out of curiosity.
"Nothing." Arthit shakes his head.
"Are you thinking about calling me husband again?" Kongpob teases.
"No! I'm not. Stop being so full of yourself, Mr. Suthilak." With a sneaky grin, Arthit dips his hand into his ice water and fishes out a couple of small ice cubes to throw at his husband. The ice cubes melt on contact with Kongpob's hot body from his solid chest down to his navel and then fall off to the sides. Arthit's eyes follow the wet trail left behind and his dick twitches inside his shorts. Damn. Why are they at the beach?
"Tiger, save it for tonight. I promise to still be this hot. Okay?"
"Shut up!" Arthit looks away hoping that Kongpob can't see him blush. It's been almost two years and Kongpob still has this effect on him.
"If it makes you feel any better, I can't wait to jump my husband's bones too." Kongpob wiggles his brows.
"Kongpob!" Arthit doesn't even dare to turn his face because he knows for sure he's blushing like a tomato. Just you wait, Kongpob. Let's see who jumps who.
Kongpob chuckles and takes another sip of his sangria before it gets too warm.
"Kongpob, should we ask Kamron to call us dads instead of uncles when we go back?" Arthit changes the subject to keep his husband from teasing him.
"Not unless you really want to. It's not really something I want to force him to do. He's still so young and he might not fully understand what's going on yet, and he lost his father not so long ago. So I wouldn't want him to think too much about that. I don't want him to feel like we're trying to replace his father. What he calls us is not that important as long as he respects us. What's important is that we give him the love, care, and necessary foundation to become a good person and a useful member of society. If one day he feels comfortable enough and he wants to call us dads, then I would be more than happy to hear it. How do you feel about that?" Kongpob reaches for Arthit's hand.
"Mmm....you make a good point. I guess it really doesn't matter what he calls us. Kongpob, I think you will be a great father."
"I think you will be a great father too." Kongpob clinks their glasses together for a toast.
"I hope so. But I can't get any worse than my father. Right?" Arthit puts his glass of sangria on top of his father's letter.
"Arthit, why don't you just open that letter and see what it says. You have been carrying it around all day already."
"It was just in my shirt pocket from yesterday. I didn't mean to bring it around. And I don't care what it says."
"So, you wouldn't care if I shred it to pieces and threw it away?"
"Nope. Go ahead. Nothing he says matters to me anymore."
Kongpob picks the letter up from under Arthit's glass. Arthit side glances at him but makes no attempt in stopping him. Kongpob then makes the motions of tearing the letter apart.
"Wait!" Arthit puts his hand up.
Kongpob sighs. He just wants Arthit to face this and get it over with so he won't be bogged down with it for the rest of their trip. He doesn't want Arthit's father to continue to have this hold over him. And according to what Aki from Tokyo has informed him, Nawin had passed his anger management course after alcohol rehab very well. Hopefully, that man can turn a new leaf and stop causing trouble for everyone.
"Here, just read it. I'm right here with you." Kongpob hands the letter over.
Arthit looks down at the letter in Kongpob's hand and gives it a wary look. "Why don't you read it, and tell me what it says." Arthit turns away from the letter.
Kongpob nods, thinking maybe it's good that he reads it first so anything that's too harsh or ugly can be avoided. Kongpob proceeds to open the letter and reads to himself silently. Arthit waits patiently while he watches some people play beach volleyball. But after a while when Kongpob is still silent Arthit finally asks, "what did he say?"
"Arthit, I think you should really read it yourself."
"No, I don't want to. If you can't tell me, then just throw it away." Arthit turns away.
Kongpob shakes his head. "Why are you so stubborn? You're lucky I like you, and I like you a lot. I'm just going to read it to you. So listen up."
Dear Arthit,
I hope this letter finds you well. I'm happy that you have found the happiness that I never gave you. I hope your brother and sister will find theirs too. Rehab made me wake up for the first time in more than thirty years to finally see the monster that I have become. I have followed the footsteps of the one person I hated the most in my life and that's my own father. I'm glad that none of you three have followed mine. I'm a sorry excuse for a husband, a father, and a man. A coward who couldn't face his own failures and took it out on the ones he's supposed to love and protect. Your husband is a kind and wise man that gave me a chance to see the truth. If it weren't for him, I don't know if I would ever wake up to face reality.
I can apologize a million times and it will be of no use because I cannot turn back time, and undo the hurt that I've caused, and the trust that I've broken. I do not dare to ask for forgiveness because I do not deserve it. You don't need to hear this from me, but I do want to say I'm proud of you. You're a lot stronger than I ever was and you've become a much better person than I will ever be. Thank you for taking care of the family.
I have decided to become a monk to atone for my sins and dedicate the rest of my life to serving Buddha. I hope to redeem myself and maybe in the next life, I will be a better person. I hope in the next life or the life after that, I will be given another chance to be your father again and make it right. Please take care, and I will pray for your happiness and good health.
Farewell, my son,
Nawin Ronajpat
Kongpob puts the letter down and realizes his husband is leaning against his back with his arms wrapped around him. Kongpob tries to turn around to see Arthit but the latter holds onto him tighter, preventing him from turning. Over the course of their relationship, he's come to know that Arthit sometimes just wants to silently hold him when he's emotional. So he places his hands over Arthit's and stays silent and lets Arthit have this moment.
After a while, Arthit collects his emotions and takes a deep breath. He plants a kiss on Kongpob's shoulder, a silent thank for being his support. He decides to let it all go and like magic, he feels an invisible weight being lifted off his shoulders. He has no plans to ever see his father again and he honestly doesn't want him to ever be his father again. But at least, he won't have to worry about him interfering with his or his family's lives anymore. He has more important things to focus on now.
"I love you, Kongpob."
"I love you too, Arthit."
Barcelona, Spain
"Kongpob, are you sure this is a church? It looks kind of scary to me."
"It is. It's the famous Basílica de la Sagrada Família designed by Antoni Gaudi."
"I've heard of it but I didn't expect it to look so different. Can we not go inside?"
"It's what makes it unique and the inside is very beautiful."
"Fine. But let's not stay for too long. It might swallow us."
"Thirty minutes tops."
Chup.
Madrid, Spain
"How do you like the suckling pig?"
"How did this place survive all these centuries serving such bland food?"
"Well, Sobrino de Botín is the oldest restaurant in the world according to Guinness Records. It's been here since 1725, but it didn't say it has received any Michelin stars now."
"Let's go back to San Miguel for tapas after this."
"As you wish."
Chup.
Seville, Spain
"Arthit, stay close. So security can see us."
"Wow, everyone is so colorful here."
"We came just in time for Sevilla's Feria de Abril."
"Kongpob, let's dress up as cowboys too."
"Sure."
Chup.
Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
"This place is so beautiful, Kongpob. The air is amazing. The snowy mountains look so majestic."
"That's the Swiss Alps. They're indeed very majestic but you're more beautiful."
"Stop teasing me."
"But you really are."
Chup.
Brussels, Belgium
"Kongpob, what is this place? It looks like one of those brain puzzles Sonya buys for Kamron."
"It's called Atomium. It's a cool museum. Let's go inside after I finish this."
"Kongpob, I think you should stop. It's like your fifth waffle for the day."
"But they're so good."
"I hate how you never get fat."
"Just go jogging with me in the morning."
"No. I would rather not eat five waffles than to lose sleep."
"Fine. But it's your loss. The pistachio creme on this one is amazing."
"Is it better than my French Toast?"
"No. Nothing is better than my husband's French Toast."
"You'll get tired of it one day."
"Never."
Chup.
.....And they lived happily ever after.
The End.
