Chapter 8: Anthony
Anthony:
Turns out, she was smarter than I thought. We have been studying math and English and other subjects for the past two hours, and she looked as though she graduated MIT. She went math and English as if was nothing. I was astonished on the wisdom she had. I thought I had to teach her everything, but she was already knowledgable.
"How do you know all of this already? I blanched.
She chuckled. "Well, it's mostly the archangels who know all of this. When a genius dies on earth and is allowed into heaven, we learn from them. They're the most knowledgable ones to learn from in regards to earth."
She took a book and skimmed through it for a few seconds before placing it back down and nodded.
"I learned from Galileo and DaVinci. Though DaVinci was shipped to Hell a week after he arrived in heaven. He was knowledgable. I also learn a little from Albert Einstein as well. I also learned from a few geniuses from this century as well."
She smiled. "I don't need to learn much about knowledge."
I began laughing. "You're amazing. You solved the first hurdle for me. I figured it was gonna be trouble to teach you about the necessities of of math and English but you solved that problem for me. For now let's just stop and have lunch. Just stay here and I fix it for us."
She nodded. "Alright."
She walked towards the couch and grabbed the remote. She had no idea how to use it. She ended up turning it off. She hit the button again and it came back on. I let out a small chuckle.
'She may be knowledgable, but I'll still need to teach her of the technology of this century. But it may be best to teach her about common sense first. It may be best to start with that.' I thought to myself as I walked into the kitchen.
It took me a few minutes to make more grill cheese sandwiches for the both of us. I added a little bit of pepper to the sandwiches to give them flavor. I also decided to make a large bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup. I fixed her a bowl and myself a bowl of soup and brought it to the table. I called out to her in the living room. A few seconds later, she walks in and sits down.
She looked saw the sandwiches and smiled. She then looks at the bowl of soup and her smile faded. Now a confused look appeared on his face.
"What's this?" She asked.
"This Chicken Noodle Soup. Try dipping the sandwich in the soup before biting." I said as I dipped my own sandwich in the soup.
She picked up the sandwich and dipped in the hot liquid. She took a nibble of the wet bread and giggled. She took a bigger bite, then she dipped it again finished the sandwich. After she polished off the sandwiches, she started on the soup. She lifted the spoon and dipped in the soup and placed the spoon in her mouth. She smiled.
"You're right. They both work together."
I chuckled. "I told you it would."
We finished the soup and I washed the dishes. Afterwards, we left the kitchen and sat on the couches and watched tv. She was fascinated with everything on tv. She asked me how they put people in tv. It was a little complicated to tell her so I just pushed the question away gently.
"I'll tell you about it sometime later. It has something to due with technology."
She nodded. "Alright."
I took the remote from her and turn the channel to CNN World Wide News. I like to know what's going on in the world. Also, I wanted to show Elesia what's happening around the world now. Best to show her what's happening all over the world now.
A few minutes later, a news broadcast pops up on the screen. It about a meteor crashing north of Los Angeles. The lady who was talking about looked a little worried about it. She said that the meteor decimated the forest and land nine miles north of Beverly Hills. Even I must say that I'm fortunate the impact didn't take me along with the land. But I know the cause of the destruction. The cause is sitting right beside me. I turns towards her and looked at her for a few seconds. She has a look of guilt and sorrow on her face.
After the lady finished talking, a man who was on a helicopter with another man with a camera began describing the scene of the destruction of the impact. It even surprised me. The forest where she impacted was decimated. There was barely even a forest left. What remains is a scorched and barren piece of land. The cameraman moved the camera over and it view the crater. The crater was huge. Two football fields wide and very deep. I was surprised that I even got her out of there so quickly. I looked away from the crater and remembered that used to be a small mountain near where she landed. I didn't see the mountain. It must have been destroyed during the explosion.
I turned towards her again and my eyes lowered. She was crying. She didn't know the scale her destruction has caused. I sighed and clicked the top button of the remote. The tv turned off and I placed the remote on the table. She turned towards me with a confused expression, her face wet with tears.
"Why did you turn it off?"
"Because I didn't want you to blame yourself for what happen, as I can see that you are."
"But I did. I caused all that destruction. Those animals in that forest, the trees, the land. All destroyed because of me."
Fresh tears fell from her face and she started crying again. I looked down for a minute. I looked up at her. In a fluid motion, I grabbed her and pulled her into a hug, which made her gasp in surprise. I held onto her gently for a few minutes before letting her go. I wiped the tears from her face.
"Elesia, you must understand something. It wasn't your fault. You could have crashed anywhere else in the world and it would have been the same. It's not your fault. It was unavoidable, but it wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself. You had no choice when you fell. And besides, the damage could have been worse."
I took her hand and held it gently.
"It'll be awhile, but the land always heals itself. From what I could tell from the impact crater, you held back. You could have made it a lot more damaging and destructive. But even I know that you couldn't avoid it. Don't blame yourself for what happen. Your actions saved me in the end. That's all that matters."
She looked down. She looked back up and smiled.
"Thank you. You have always been trying to help me. Thanks."
I lift her hand up and kissed it. She gasped in surprised again. It was a little funny to see her reaction. It made me smile.
"You're welcome."
We stared at each other for a few more minutes when the phone on the table began to vibrate. She looked at it in confusion.
"What's that?"
I sighed. "It's a cellphone. It allows us to talk to each other from a distance."
I looked at the call is and grumbled.
"And it looks like I need to take this."
I clicked the send button and heard a voice.it was Tony.
"Hey Tony."
"Anthony! Are you alright? We saw on the new about the meteor. It impacted near your vacation home. We were worried that something happened to you."
"I'm alright Tony. I was fortunate that the impact didn't take me as well. But I'm alright."
"Thank goodness. Unfortunately, that not the only reason I called."
There was a tone in his voice that told me something bad has happened.
"What happened?" I said in a serious tone.
"One of the jet propulsion generators exploded. It killed three employees."
"I thought I told them to shut down the generator project until the problems were fixed?"
"You did. Gerald didn't know that you have though. So they continued it. But we found out that it was sabotaged. We're investigating it now."
"Okay. I'll be on my way shortly. Keep me updated if there is anything new developing on the problem." I said with a little annoyance in my voice.
"Alright, my friend. I'll see you soon."
I hang up the phone and sighed.
"What's wrong?" Elesia asked, concerned.
"Problems at the company. I'm gonna have to go back soon."
I stood up and stepped away from and put my hand under my chin, thinking on what I'm gonna have to do. I gonna have to take her to the city. I turned to her and smiled.
"It looks like you're gonna be coming with me to the city. You'll get to learn more about technology and the people and the culture."
I reached out my hand for hers.
"Come with me to Los Angeles."
She smiled and took my hand.
"City of the Angels." She said.
"Indeed."
I began preparations for our journey to the city of Angels.
Interesting. Who sabotage the propulsion generators? What will happen next? Find out next time. Don't forget to comment and vote.
This was a little tricky to write. Hope you enjoyed it.
