Chapter 12: Elesia
Elesia:
"The city of Lost Angels." I muttered to myself.
Michael finally spoken to me since my time here, though I least expected him to. It was God's judgement for angels like me to be cast out of heaven, and once we're cast out, we never hear god's voice or talk to the angels again. Except for Michael.
I knew that he would be watching over me and protect me when I needed it, whether it was God's orders or not, but I didn't expect him to meet me. I was hoping he did at least once. But now I been thinking for a few minutes about the dark secret he mentioned, when a thought clicked inside my head, making me tensed in fright. I understood the dark secret of Los Angeles. All angels know it. It's why we don't stay there long when we come to earth.
"Yes." He said, as though he was reading my thoughts. "The fallen."
"The fallen? What are the fallen?" Anthony asked.
"Fallen angels. Like myself." I said, noticing that Michael was nodding and Anthony eyes were widening.
"That's what you meant when we talked earlier." He said to Michael.
I looked over at Michael with wide eyes. He looked at me and nodded.
"Yes, I told him. He's your caretaker for now. It was best I warn him for your sake."
I nodded. "I understand."
That's the dark secret of Los Angeles. It's also known as the city of lost Angels or rather, Fallen Angels. Almost all fallen angels that were cast out of heaven live in this city. It's why most unfortunate things tend to happen here, as all the negative energy of the fallen angels spreads out through the city. Most of fallen angels here are bad. Like they are so full of evil that they did bad things or caused mischief and were cast out of heaven, but hide themselves from Lucifer's denizens. They made Los Angeles their home.
But not all fallen angels here are bad. There are few fallen angels that are filled with good, hoping that God will forgive them one day and bring them back to heaven, or rather, allow them to rise. Some of these angels were like me, they believe in love and goodness in the hearts of man, but interfered with fate or was wrongly accused and were cast out. They never gave up or gave in to temptation or evil. Some of the good angels even made a good life on earth that they do not wish to return to heaven, even if they were forgiven.
Some of those good angels live in this city, surrounded by all of the evil but unwilling to fall for the temptation.
"I came to warn you of the fallen angels that live here in Los Angeles. They must never find out that you are here as a fallen angel." Michael said.
"Why?" Anthony asked.
"Because if they find out about her, they will come for her. They all know about her and they will try to tempt her. Turn her."
I realized what he meant. It wasn't good. Michael noticed my eyes widening as I understood him.
"That's not good. Not good at all." I said with a worried tone.
"Why? Why isn't that good?" Anthony asked in a concerned tone. I saw as that a look of concern and worry was etched onto his face. He really must care about me.
It wasn't Michael who answered, but Mike Jenkins who answered him. I just remembered that he was here. He didn't looked surprised to see Michael. He really must know a lot about angels.
"Because she is a former ArchAngel. She still has power and goodness from god. She also still has her wings which still have a glittery silver glow to them. If they can turn her, she'll become the next Lucifer. Which I suspect will draw the attention of Lucifer himself."
Michael eyes widen as he heard the words come out of Mike's mouth.
"How do you know that?!" He asked with an expression of shock and sternness to it.
Mike turned to Michael, giving him a knowing look. "You know why."
Michael's eyes widened. "Ah. I see."
I looked in between Mike and Michael, looking confused. What are they talking about? How does Mike know about this? Who told him about this? Michael turns towards me again, his expression calm and stern, whereas it was shocked before. He almost looked pleased from Mike's answer.
"Still, we must not let them find out or even see you." He stops and sighs before continuing. "Therein lies the problem."
"What problem?" I asked.
"A fallen angel is here. In this building. Right now." He answered with a grim look on his face.
I looked astonished and afraid as my eyes widened. There's one here? That's not good. What are we gonna do?
"There's one here? Where? Who is it?" I frantically asked.
"Jeffrin." He replied.
"Jeffrin?" I asked. I knew he was a fallen angel, but I didn't know he was here. Did he finally turn bad?
Michael confirmed my suspicions when he looked down.
"Yes. It is him. And yes. He has turned into a bad one."
I looked down as a tear slid down my face. It had to be him. So he has finally turned bad. I was hoping he was still good, that he was still trying to redeem himself.
"Who's Jeffrin?" Mike asked.
"Jeffrin was a good angel who believed in peace and love but was arrogant. He was a little mischievous but he wouldn't do anything really bad. Well, one day, he was charged for a crime he said he didn't commit but the evidence was too much. It was unanimous. We had no choice but to cast him out of heaven. All of ArchAngels agreed to the judgement. Even Elesia here, though she was reluctant. She believed in his innocence but she couldn't stand against judgement back then."
I continued where he stopped.
"So we cast out him out of heaven. It was so long ago. We hoped he would change, that he would be good. But it seems he's beyond forgiveness now."
I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I turn towards the shoulder and looked directly at Anthony who was trying to comfort me.
"It may be too late for him, but you still have a chance to be forgiven. Don't worry about it. He made his choice. You still have a chance. In the meantime, I'll be here for you."
He gave me that smile which made me smile. He is indeed a kind man. Someone cleared their throat, catching our attention. We turn toward them, seeing Michael smiling. The smile faded away and his facial expression turned stern again.
"Jeffrin is here, working for Celestial Corp. He goes by the name Jeffrey. He recently just turned bad. In fact, he turned bad yesterday."
Anthony's eyes widen as wide as they can go. He looked astonished.
"Yesterday? So he turn bad because of my decision?"
"What happened yesterday?" I asked.
"Well, need I remind you that I was not in a good mood. In fact, you know what I almost did yesterday. Well, we had a board meeting and he was a board member. He stumbled badly yesterday and he annoyed me greatly. I demoted him to a desk job. He's been with the company for five years. I couldn't just fire him."
"You're lucky he didn't lash out. He could have done a lot of damage, had he lost it. But he calmed down enough to not lose it, but in that moment, temptation and evil took hold. He became bad, but he's only been bad for less than twenty-four hours." Michael said, grabbing his chin.
"Is there a chance to save him?" I asked, eyes fill with hope.
"Sadly no. Once evil and temptation takes hold of angel, they're doomed to be bad for the rest of their lives."
"Oh." My eyes closed once again. The hope that he could be saved is now extinguished. I sighed.
"It's shame. I had hoped he would be saved, but it's too late for him."
I opened my eyes and looked up, directly at Michael.
"Is this all you needed to tell me?"
He shook his head.
"No. That's not all. There's one last thing I came to tell you about. As you know. You'll have to live here with Anthony pretty much for the rest of your life and this is a dangerous city. It's all filled with fallen angels, mostly bad. If they find you, they'll try to turn you."
He stopped for a second and looked out the window, as though he was lost in thought. He turned back towards me.
"However, there are several fallen angels in this city who are still good. They refuse the temptation of this city. One in particular is special."
He turned towards Mike and just stared at him for a few minutes, as though they were having a silent chat. I watched as Mike's eyes widened, as though he caught on to the message.
"There is an angel here who can help you live in this city. She is one of the few fallen angels that can never be tempted by evil. She even fell in love with a human and lives happy and peacefully. You may know her."
He shook his head. Then he catches me off guard when he begins chuckling.
"Hah. I know you know her. She was a dear friend of yours."
I looked confused. Then it hit me. There was an angel who I have know for a long time. I knew she was cast out of heaven and it broke my heart when it happen, but she refused to be mad. She was a kind angel and a great friend. Can it be? Can it be her?
"Halea? The good fallen angel is Halea?" I asked, with a look of hope on my face. He confirmed it when he nodded.
"Yes. Halea. She has been living in this city ever since she was cast out of heaven. She refused to fall for temptation. She lived peacefully ever since. She even fell in love with a human. She's happy."
I was smiling. So she did have a good life here. She's been here on earth ever since she was cast out, which happened fifteen years ago.
The thing about angels or fallen angels is that we don't age. We stay the same. For those who were human, they stay the same they died. Unless they were children. If they were children or teenagers when they died, they will age as time goes on until they reach the age of eighteen. They'll stop aging after that. The same goes for the archangels. As we were born in heaven, we grew to a certain age then stop. It was eighteen for us as well. So Halea will look the same as she was back then.
I refused to watch my best friend as she was cast out of heaven. I would have watched over her from time to time until I couldn't bear it any longer. It hurt me to see that she was far away from home. To hear that she has been living a good life here made me smile. At least she had a good life.
"That's great. It's good to hear she's been living a good life here."
Michael nodded. I noticed he was smiling.
"She is living a good life." He motioned towards Mike. "Mike here knows her?"
I swung my head over to Mike, who was looking away. He turned back towards me and nodded.
"You know her?" I asked, astonished. He knew her? I didn't know that. How does he know her?
"Yes. I know her." He said with a small smile, as though he was remembering something.
I want to question him further about how he knows about Halea, but Michael cleared his throat, catching my attention.
"I will take my leave now. Elesia, go to Halea. She can help you. And be careful of the fallen. Watch out for Jeffrin. Anthony, take care of her."
He walk out the glass doors and walked out on the balcony. He turned back towards me.
"Remember this, Elesia. I'll be keeping an eye on you. You'll be safe here. Farewell for now. Goodbye Elesia."
He summon his pure white wings and flies up high. I rush out of the office and onto the balcony, watching as he flew away and disappeared in the clouds. I stay there watching the clouds for a few minutes. About 5 minutes later, I walked inside.
I walked over and stood in front of Mike, with my hands on my hips.
"You know Halea?"
He nodded. Then he stepped away from me and walk outside, stepping onto the balcony, hands on the edge of the railing. I heard him sigh. He turned towards me and nods.
"I know her. I was the one who watched over her as she lived here on earth. I took care of her, been there for her when she needed it. She's happy, which made me happy."
I saw that he was smiling widely, as though he read remembering the past he had with her.
"You looked like you know a lot about her. How long have you known her?"
"For twelve years. I known her for twelve years. I found her in a alley one day. She was cold and shivering. She was so beautiful, but she was frail. She looked hungry, as though she hasn't eaten for a while. I decided to take her in and nurtured her back to health. It was shortly after I found her and began helping her, when I saw the wings. It shocked me very good. She told me everything. What she was, about heaven, everything. Even you, her best friend. That's how I knew about the angels."
She's been through all that? She's do strong. But I noticed something in his voice as he spoke. It was hidden though it was subtle. I'm surprised I missed it until now.
"You care for her, don't you? You....love her."
He looked down. I heard him sigh. He looked at me, with a smile on his face.
"Can't fool you, can I? Yes. I do care for her. I been there for her ever since and I would never leave her. I....love her."
His words made my heart flutter. Someone did care for her and took care of her. I know he would never betray her. And to hear it come out of his mouth made me very happy. He would make her happy. I can already tell he already did.
"At least she has a nice guy like yourself taking care of her. So you're her best friend? Her boyfriend?"
He laughed which left me confused. Did I say something wrong?
"No." He says as he wipes a tear from his face, still chuckling. "She's not my girlfriend, nor is she my best friend."
I frowned for a minute, not getting what he's saying. Then it hit me, causing me to smile wide, eyes wide. Can it be? Is he and she? He knew what I was thinking because he chuckled.
"Yes. She's not my girlfriend. She is not just my best friend. She more than that."
He sighs.
"She's my wife. My love."
