Hero Names!

(Nobody POV)

Classes were back in session the next day, and Izuku and Asriel were once again racing each other to school. As they were running, they heard a voice catching up to them. They had assumed that All Might was making his way to UA, but that thought was quickly dismissed when they heard the voice of what sounded like a teenager. "Excuse me... Excuse me!" they called. Confused about the unfamiliar voice catching up to them, they stopped and turned around to see a young-looking boy. He appeared to be just a bit older than them, but Izuku recognized him instantly as the number three pro hero: Hawks. He was said to be the youngest hero to make it into the system.

The young man had wild blonde hair and a tan-colored casual-looking jacket and pants, though his undershirt seemed like some sort of full-body black skin-tight suit with a strange gold pattern. The jacket was insulated and lined with fluffy white fur. He also had a golden visor, which was connected to what appeared to be noise-canceling headphones. Izuku assumed they were for wind resistance, considering how fast the boy could fly. The thing that stood out the most was his large red wings.

(My art ^^)

Wing quirks were extremely rare, and his ability to detach his feathers and manipulate them midair, similar to Izuku's red knives, was even rarer. Hawks got quite a bit of fan service due to his attractive appearance and optimism. He acted his age, or at least what's expected of a nineteen-year-old, and his flirtatious jokes that he used on the female reporters got him even more attention. He was popular, powerful, and overall a good hero. He was also a spy and informant, so he was most likely following the brothers to get information out of them. However, much to their surprise, the young hero actually offered to join the race, and if they won he would offer an internship. If they lost, they had to give some information about the USJ.

Izuku merely laughed at the offer, confusing the poor blonde. "Hey, don't worry about it. You would've asked us either way, so we might as well tell you on the way. As for the internship, you'll probably offer it anyway, so how about we just race for the fun of it, yeah? I like the idea of beating the number three pro hero. What about you, Azzy?" Asriel laughed nervously at the jeer but agreed to the race nonetheless. Hawks saw this as an absolute win and agreed to talk about the event on the way there. The three contestants lined up next to each other and got into a running position or flying position in Hawks' case. "3... 2... 1, GO!" Izuku shouted.

And they were off.

. . .

They arrived at the school gate and waved goodbye to the hero who joined their game. Hawks congratulated Asriel on winning the festival and praised Izuku for the epic show, which both boys thanked him for profusely. Izuku had won the race, much to his satisfaction. They then met up with their respective group of friends. Asriel walked and talked with Tenya and Ochaco. Asriel noticed that Ilda was feeling down and asked if he was okay. Word got around that his older brother was attacked by a terrifying villain known as "The Hero Killer". The forums about the guy said that he was once known as "Stendhal". A vigilante who believed that All Might was the only true hero and that everyone else was fake. But now the ex-vigilante goes around killing "fakes" and preaches about "conviction" and "true hero's spirit". If the man wasn't so maniacal and psychotic about it, Izuku would've agreed to his cause, but he's just a deranged villain trying to change society to fit his twisted vision. Asriel couldn't help but be worried about his grief-stricken friend. Even though Ilda's brother wasn't dead, he had been paralyzed and was forced into retirement. Not even Toriel's healing magic could heal him, and she was the monster's best healer. Ilda had assured Asriel that he was fine, but Asriel still worried nonetheless.

Meanwhile, Izuku met up with Hitoshi and Neito and told them everything about the new addition to his family. They were ecstatic, to say the least. Izuku had finally reunited with his human family, even if one of them was absent. Shinsou asked how it went and, unfortunately for his two friends, Izuku was more than happy to recall the event in every detail. By the time he had finished rambling on about the meeting and finally got to the part where everyone had agreed on shared custody, they made it to their class. Izuku waved goodbye to his two class B friends and followed his brother inside. He sat in his seat, scrolling through his contacts with a goofy smile. The green-haired woman was the newest addition to his long list of phone numbers, along with all of 1-B. Asriel, noticing his older brother's happiness, got curious and decided to tease him.

(Asriel POV)

"Sooo~ What lovely damsel has my strong, handsome, amazing big brother's attention?" I joked. He merely rolled his eyes and showed off the collection of phone numbers he got. "Wow, quite the collection you got there. I'm glad you're finally getting along with humans for once!" I cheered, though he snorted at my joke. Which reminds me... I'll leave that conversation for later. Hopefully, Ilda will be okay enough to talk by then. I decided to stop teasing Izu and listen to the conversations going on around me.

"It's different when they broadcast the matches on live TV, huh? So many people talked to me on the way here!" Mina said. Lots of agreements went around the room. Sero didn't seem to have their luck, as he started complaining. "I had some elementary schoolers suddenly tell me 'Don't worry about it." Tsuyu quickly replied with a "Don't worry about it," causing Kirishima and Mina, who sit next to him, to giggle when Sero groaned in emotional agony. Poor Sero. Of course, I couldn't help but laugh along with them. I heard Kaminari behind me, talking about how we were all thrust into the spotlight.

"That must suck for you guys. Azzy and I just take the rooftops to school," Izuku stated, though the smirk indicated that he was laughing at them. "Oh! We got to race Hawks on the way here today!" I told them, earning some shocked expressions from the class. "EHHHH?! You got to race the number three pro hero?! Please tell me you at least got an autograph!" Kaminari shouted. "No, but we got some internship offers and Izu got bragging rights for winning," I said, causing a cocky smirk to spread across Izuku's face while I just laughed at his ridiculousness. "So manly..." Kirishima said quietly, crying as he held a fist to his chest.

(Author POV)

The classroom door opened and in walked a tired-as-ever Aizawa without any bandages. "Good morning," he muttered. "Good morning!" the class replied. "Ribbit? Mr. Aizawa, your bandages are gone. I'm glad," Tsuyu pointed out. "The old lady went overboard today," he replied, scratching his face. The bandages were extremely itchy, another reason why Aizawa hates hospitals. "More importantly, we're having a hero informatics class today," he informed. Everyone was suddenly tense, thinking there was a sudden pop quiz. "You're going to pick your hero names." The class broke out into cries of excitement but was quickly silenced by Aizawa using his quirk to intimidate the students. Not that his erasure quirk would work on the well-behaved Dreemur boys who were sitting quietly and waiting for him to finish.

"This is about those hero internships I mentioned so shut up and listen. The offers usually only extend to second and third years, after students have gained more experience in the field and can become immediate assets to pro heroes," he explained. "In other words, for them to extend offers to first years like you shows that they are interested in your potential. So, in order to keep their interest, you have to prove yourself," Aizawa finished. When he revealed the scores, Asriel was placed on top with 4123 offers, Izuku was second with 3556, and Todoroki was third with 2869. Everyone else after that had significantly fewer offers, Bakugou being the highest of the lows with 360 offers.

"In other years, it's been more spread out, but all eyes were on these three this year," Aizawa said. "Gah, there's such a difference!" Kaminari whined. "The placements are the same as the ones in the festival," Jirou pointed out. "Hey, you're right. I'm surprised Bakugou got so few offers with placement like that," Kirishima said. Sero pointed out how scary Bakugou was during the whole thing and how nobody would ask for a bully on their team. Izuku laughed at Sero's comment, causing the blonde to screech in anger. Yoayorozu praised Todoroki for getting so many offers, but Todoroki just said that it was probably his father's influence. Uraraka and Ilda were overwhelmed to even have offers at all, and poor Sero was in last place with a few pity points.

"Keeping these results in mind. Whether or not anyone asked for you, you will all be participating in internships with pros," Aizawa told them. "Internships?" Izuku asked. He thought the internship offer that Hawks gave him was for a future thing, but now it seemed to be a current thing. He guessed that Hawks wasn't the only hero with those intentions. "That's right. At USJ, you got to experience combat with real villains, but it would still be useful to see pros at work firsthand," he explained. "So that explains the hero names!" Uraraka cheered. "Well, you're hero names are still temporary, but if you don't take it seriously-" Aizawa began. "-You'll have hell to pay later!" Midnight interrupted. Sero and Kaminari perked up at her sudden appearance, and Izuku just groaned in annoyance at their antics. "Because a lot of hero names used by students become recognized by society, and they end up becoming professional hero names!" she continued, strutting in like a peacock.

"Well, that's how it is," Aizawa said, accepting his fate of forever being interrupted. "So Midnight will be making sure your names are okay. I can't do stuff like that," Aizawa told them, pulling out his sleeping bag. "When you give yourself a name, you get a more concrete image of what you want to be like in the future, and you can get closer to it. This is what it means when they say, 'Names and natures often do agree'. Like All Might, for example." Aizawa said, stepping into his sleeping bag. With that, he flopped on the floor and went straight to sleep. Everyone started passing back whiteboards and markers and immediately started writing. Guess they already had ideas.

. . .

"Okay, let's start presenting names, starting with those who are ready," Midnight announced. Aoyama came up to the podium and dramatically held his board above his head, the air sparkling around him. "Shining Hero: I can not stop twinkling. Which means, you can't stop my sparkles!" The students who were nervous about presenting their names, were less nervous knowing that their names weren't a whole sentence. Midnight took his board and wrote some things down. "It'll be shorter if you take out the 'I' and shorten the 'can not' to 'can't'," she said. "You're right, mademoiselle," Aoyama replied. The students were winding how that was considered an 'okay' name, Sato just wanted him to pick a language. Aoyama had written his name in English yet pronounced it in French, despite being born in Japan.

Mina bounced up to the podium and proudly placed her board on the podium. "The Acid Hero: Alien Queen!" she announced. Midnight looked unsettled. "Are you trying for that thing with the acidic blood? I wouldn't if I were you!" Mina trudged back to her seat gloomily. Asriel wanted to ask what that was, but Izuku told him he had a feeling that it was best they don't know because it sounded like a horror movie and Asriel wasn't good with those. He always "screamed" at the gory parts, though his screams were more like bleats that Izuku always laughed at. Izuku only laughed at the screams of everyone else watching, never at the bloody scenes themselves. It was because of this that Asriel knew better than to push for an answer and opted to just continue listening to the names.

Tsuyu had chosen the name "Rainy Season hero: Froppy". Kirishima had chosen "Red Riot", based his name on his favorite hero: Crimson Riot. But Izuku was quickly brought back to a memory he wanted to forget most of all. The numerous names he chose when was three were all based on All Might, as he was a huge fanboy back then. Names like, "Mini-Might" and "All Might Jr." made Izuku cringe at the many names he came up with. As Izuku was brooding over his dark past, other students were presenting their names.

Jirou chose the name "Earphone Jack" due to her quirk, earphone jack. Her earlobes were earphone jacks that she could extend a few feet. When she plugs them into walls and floors, she can hear soundwaves of footsteps on the ground or taps on the walls. She had speakers on the shoes of her hero outfit that she used to project her heartbeat in a booming shockwave that shakes the air and could knock people back, or even blast through walls depending on the set volume of the shoe speakers.

Shouji chose the name "Tentacole", a combination of tentacle and octopus, also due to his quirk: dupli-arms. He had multiple appendages stemming from his shoulders that he could shapeshift into different body parts, like ears, eyes, mouths, and hands. He could also regrow them if they are torn off, like a lizard. Shouji didn't really have any support gear to increase the use of his quirk, but it was still a cool quirk. Definitely useful in both combat and rescue missions.

Ojirou chose the name "Tailman", also due to his quirk: Tail. He had a very muscular tail with fluffy fur at the end that reminded Izuku of a lion. However, it wasn't very versatile and was mainly only good for combat, but it did reveal emotions like joy or fear. It reminded Izuku of a cat's tail. The tail usually remained neutral when the boy is calm but twitched occasionally, it fidgets when he is happy or excited, and it even fluffs up when he is surprised or startled. Due to the low versatility of Ojirou's quirk, he learned martial arts at the same dojo the two brothers went to, though they hadn't really gotten to know him until UA.

Sato was next and chose the name "Sugarman", though it reminded Izuku of the story "Muffin Man". Sato's quirk was called "Sugar Rush" and it was exactly what it sounded like. When Sato eats anything sweet, like cake, marshmallows, or even sugar cubes, he gets a strength boost. However, much like a normal sugar rush, it comes with the "sugar crash". Quirk drawbacks are mean sometimes, but can also be pretty funny.

Ashido claimed her redemption with the name "Pinky", due to her pink skin. Ashido has an acid quirk, but the drawback is that she has pink skin and if she overuses her quirk, she gets acid burns on her skin that hurts a lot. Along with her pink skin, is bright pink hair and a cute pair of horns. They were small curly yellow horns that were nowhere near as dangerous as they looked. They were more like antennae really, soft and squishy but generally pretty useless and served no purpose other than making her cute.

Kaminari combined the words "Charge" and "Lightning bolt" to make "The Stun Gun hero: Chargebolt", though the name seemed a bit ironic with the way he used his quirk. Kaminari had an electricity quirk that he used like a lightning field. However, he often gave it everything or nothing, causing him to constantly overuse his quirk and become basically useless in the field. Izuku thought that Kaminari was using his quirk wrong. If Kaminari was actually trying to be a sort of "stun gun", he needed to realize that it doesn't really take much electricity to take down an opponent. It wouldn't take any more than 50 volts to stun or even paralyze a human, and even less to disrupt or malfunction a robot. If Kaminari focused more on control than power, he could go very far. Izuku decided to give him some fighting tips later.

Toru had chosen the name "Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl". The name was practically giving away her quirk, however, Izuku wasn't so convinced that her actual quirk was invisibility. If it was, then the food she eats wouldn't disappear. Izuku saw it during lunch one time and had been secretly questioning the true dynamics of her quirk. If anything, her quirk reminded him more of light reflection than light refraction. Add onto the fact that she had a shadow, and it only proved his point further. He wanted to experiment with that theory later.

Momo had chosen the name "Everything Hero: Creati". She had a creation quirk. The records stated that she used up fat cells when she created things, but if that was the case, then she would have a lot more body mass than she currently does. Izuku had a theory, but he would have to ask her later. Though, his theories were making him wonder if the people analyzing these guys' quirks were even familiar with the basics of human biology. Though, the mere thought of a doctor being uneducated on these things was concerning on many levels.

Shoto just used his name. He didn't seem to be the creative type. Tokoyami claimed the name "Tsukuyomi" which was the Japanese name for the God of the night. Izuku wanted to laugh at how edgy this emo bird boy was being.

Asriel was going to have trouble with his name. You see, when Asriel was ten, he came up with his very own custom hero costume. Basically, he was a god. The god itself came in the appearance of an "adult Asriel", as Izuku liked to call it. He had tall horns and was wearing the same royal robes as his mother with the golden shoulder pads of his father. The thing that made Izuku smile about it was the golden locket hung around his neck. Even in god mode, Asriel still had it on. All of Asriel's attacks had silly names like "Chaos Buster" and "Shocker Breaker". And worst of all was his own name, so when it was his turn to come up, Izuku had to use all of his power to hold in his laughter.

"I am THE GOD OF HYPER DEATH!" Asriel proudly declared, before being sent back to his seat to come up with a new name. Izuku tried patting his brother's back to comfort the sulking child but Asriel merely huffed at his big brother, knowing very well that Izuku was actually laughing at him.

Next up was Koda. The shy boy scampered up to the podium and revealed his board. "The petting hero: Anima". It was rather cute, actually. Though, to be fair, Koda himself was rather cute. He was too shy to even talk, which resulted in him using sign language most of the time. Luckily for the brothers, Gaster had a weird habit of signing as he talked, so they could easily communicate with Koda, much to the quiet child's delight.

And just when Izuku thought Asriel was the one with the strangest name, Bakugou came up and proved him wrong. His name was by far the worst so far. And to top it off, Bakugou's writing looked like chicken scratch! "King Explosion Murder" sounded like a name Undyne would use on the Undernet, which was the underground's version of the internet. Izuku couldn't even hold in his laughter when Bakugou stormed back to his desk in a huff when the name was denied due to being "too scary". He laughed even harder when Kirishima recommended the name "Explosion Boy".

Uraraka had written the name "Uravity" in a bubbly font that rivaled Koda's cuteness, though nothing could be cuter than Asriel. She sighed in relief when Midnight approved the name. Asriel smiled politely when she gave him a glance on her way back to her desk. She looked happy to see that her friend approved of her new name, though Izuku was actually wondering if she always wrote like that or if this was a special occasion.

Now, all that was left was Ilda, Izuku, and the two who needed to rethink their names. Ilda went up first, presenting his name. Apparently, he had chosen his first name too, which was a bit surprising to Asriel and Uraraka. They had thought for sure that he would choose to take the Ingenium name after his brother was hospitalized, but it seemed Ilda just wasn't ready for the responsibility just yet.

"Izuku, are you ready?" Midnight asked. Izuku nodded and walked to the podium. He placed his board and everyone was surprised. "Seriously? I thought for sure you'd go for something more... empowering?" Kaminari asked. "Yeah, bro. The name is really manly, but a bit misleading, all things considered," Kirishima said, agreeing with Kaminari's comment. Izuku nodded, determined about his name. "Yes. I had thought about many names, but this one made the most sense to me. It was something I had heard from a legend, and I felt like it was calling to me." he explained.

"There was a prophecy in the Underground. It stated that 'An angel who has seen the surface will fall, and the Underground will be empty.' And it gave monsters hope that one day, they would be free. I want to be their light, I want to be their freedom. I want to fulfill their wishes as they had fulfilled mine, and I want to share this feeling with the world. So this is who I am," Izuku explained.

On his board were the words "Symbol of Hope: Angel".

. . .

"LORD EXPLOSION MURDER!!" Bakugou yelled but was once again denied.

"The Magical Hero: Prince" Asriel said and was accepted as it was deemed normal enough.

. . .

"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we'll go back to discussing the hero internships," Aizawa stated. "They will last a week. As for where you'll have them, those who had offers from pros will be given your own lists, ao you can choose from those yourself. Those who didn't have offers will choose from among forty agencies around the country that will be accepting our interns. They all work in different places and have different specialties," Aizawa explained. Midnight chimed in, "For example, Thirteen would be focused on rescues from accidents and disasters more than fighting villains," she explained.

"Think carefully before you choose," Aizawa told them. The students were excitedly chatting about who they were going to pick when the teachers told them to hand them in by the weekend, which was in two days. Which reminded Izuku that it was a Wednesday, meaning that Science class was today. Maybe he can ask Gaster to help him analyze his classmates' quirks to see if the function of their quirks is actually what they say they are so he can give a correct analysis. He knew that Gaster would be more than happy to analyze them, especially if it meant that his students could learn and improve from them.

(As promised, here is the next chapter. I am sorry for taking so long on this, and I will try to be faster so you don't have to wait so long for the next chapter.

Originally, I had wanted to draw an actual scene of Hawks landing on the rooftop where Asriel and Izuku were doing parkour, but I didn't feel like doing all that effort. Me being lazy again. But I still have the outline of the scene itself, so maybe I'll finish it later for kicks and giggles.

Fun fact: I like to listen to nightcore when writing, and this chapter was finished on the song "Ignite". Inspirational. I prefer to find my music on Youtube, as I can find just about anything there, but I do use Spotify when not on Youtube. No, I don't have a playlist.)
