Chapter 16: Shit Happens

"She is a game-changer, the kind of girl that redefines everything you thought you knew about amazing." - J. Iron Word

I was going through last night's events as Saph and I walked side by side in the school hallways which for some uncanny reason were extremely deserted and an eerie silence was circulating in the thin air. Not.

My life ain't some drama and mystery movie now is it?

The hallways were full of students lurking around with their backpack and nudging every single person coming in their way, while I could clearly see a scene just picked out from the movie Mean Girls as Ashley Johnson was making her way in our direction with her minions walking beside her.

I knew it was a bad idea for Saph and Ashley to have any sort of verbal conversation at that moment so I quickly turned us around and made us walk in the opposite direction.

"Aur, our class is in the other direction. You are taking us the opposite way. What's wrong?"

"Ashley's wrong, that's the whole freaking problem," my conscience piped in.

"Nothing, I just really have this urge to pee and I can't hold it in any longer," I carefully make some believable excuse.

"Or you are just trying to run away from me, Aurora darling. Which one is it?" Ashley smirked as she appeared right in front of my vision and I let out a huge groan.

I could feel Saph stiffen beside me but there was nothing I could do apart from taking Saph away and avoiding causing a scene especially when the whole damn school would be able to witness it.

"Saph let's get out of here before she causes a scene," I pulled on Saph's turquoise top's sleeve in an attempt to get her attention.

However her eyes were fixed on a certain blonde mess standing in front of her with a sly smile etched on her face.

I tried once again but I failed miserably.

I could see Saph having trouble to form proper sentences as her mouth opened and closed for the third time with no words tumbling out of her lips.

"Ashley, could you please get your pathetic ass out of our way, we have got some classes to attend unlike you," I looked at her dead in the eye waiting for her reply which took less than a second to come our way.

"Oh yeah sure thing Aur. After all teachers are the only people giving you some attention so I would definitely not like to make you wait."

And that was all it took for Saph to finally let her rage roar down the hallways.

"Who the hell do you think you are Ashley? And let's not even talk about getting some damn attention; we both know how much attention you had gotten before shit happened. And you know what I am talking about so don't even bother denying it."

That seemed to shut Ashley's trap instantly but I had no clue as to what shit Saph was referring to. I will have to remember to ask her about that later.

I was just about to speak in when I noticed a mop of curly black hair knowing extremely well whom they belonged to.

I could see him making his way towards us as he pushed people around and I knew I had to do something before he cleared the last few people surrounding us.

Apparently, I was not the only person who had noticed him.

Saph stood completely frozen in her place while having a death grip on my hand and Ashley turned around to see whom I was eyeing and when she got the hint, a smirk quickly made its way on her face hidden behind the tonnes of make-up products she had applied.

I made an attempt to turn us around and get away from him and Ashley before all hell broke loose but Saph was not budging in. Her body had gone rigid and it just felt like the situation wasn't under my control anymore. Or anybody's control for that matter.

"Saph, Jake's coming here. Let's get out of here, please. Enough happened yesterday, I can't see you like that anymore," I made the last attempt to get her feet to move.

Just then the final bell rang and the crowd started to clear out from around us and I could see Jake pushing the last poor kid out of his way.

He stood right in front of Saph and Ashley stayed rooted to her place.

At this moment, all I felt was pure anger towards Jake and Ashley was just making it worse by her annoying presence.

"Saph, can we please talk? Please? Just let me explain alright? It will be all your decision then. I promise, just one chance. Is that too much to ask?

"Oh it would be fun to hear Jake explaining," Ashley's trap opened once again.

I was scared shitless as Saph stood there completely emotionless and it felt like all the color had drained out of her face. I nudged her a few times but it was of no use.

"Aww, is Sapphire tongue tied now? I never knew I will live to see this day. Maybe what Jake said was true after all."

And with that Ashley had just crossed all the lines of decency which I am hundred percent sure she never knew even existed.

"I am warning you Ashley, do not open your damn mouth. I am having some serious thoughts of doing something destructive and you are just adding fuel to the fire," Saph spoke as she emphasised on every word coming out of her mouth.

"Oh I am so scared."

"Ashley, if I were you, I had be long gone from here," Jake tried speaking some sense into her while shooting daggers her way.

"Whatever," Ashley spoke and turned on her high heels and left us alone. Finally.

"Saph, can I please speak to you alone? Please? I am begging you."

"No," Saph looked away trying hard to not show any sign of weakness.

"Saph, I need to fucking clear out this shit between us and it's killing me to not being able to speak to you, so if you don't give in, I will have to do it my way."

"You're not doing anything and there's nothing left to talk," Saph broke the silence before she turned around in order to leave.

Just then I noticed Jake's hand wrapping around Saph's waist before he picked her up in one swift motion and her belly landed straight on his right shoulder.

I let out a small shriek in disbelief whereas Saph was full on screaming now. I seriously wonder how nobody has come out of their classes yet.

"Jake, you asshole, put me down. I said I don't want to talk to you, you cannot fucking force me to do otherwise. So put me down this very instant or I am going to scream again."

"Told you I'd do it my way," Jake shrugged as he began walking with Saph on his shoulder in the direction of the school's gates.

"Aur, what the hell are you doing standing there? Go call somebody! You can't let him drag me out of this place. Come on..." Saph's voice diminished as she neared the gates.

I just let out a heavy sigh and looked at the time. Wow, just great. I had missed my first class and was already late for the second one.

I know Saph asked me to call somebody but I seriously think they need to discuss whatever the shit it is. And from shit, I remember, I have to ask Saph about her conversation with Ashley that they had earlier.

I drag my feet towards my next class which is History and I have no freaking idea if I would be allowed to even enter inside.

Guess it's time to check out my luck.

I carefully knock on the door hoping to not disturb the class and I see Mr. Edward as well as the entire class slowly turning their heads towards the door where I am now standing.

"So what is your excuse Ms. Stephens?"

Damn him.

I think it's better to say the truth rather than weaving a lie which could easily be detected by this human lie detector.

"I got caught up in the hallways by one of the students here sir and I just lost track of time. I am extremely sorry and this would not happen again," I look at him apologetically hoping that this would do it.

He eyes me once as if sensing if I am lying or not and then just nods and point to the empty seat.

"I hope this is the first and the last time Ms. Stephens. You are a good student and that's why I am letting you in and also because you chose to speak the truth how much ever silly it was. However, don't mistake this for being allowed to come inside my class every time you turn in late."

I just nod and head towards an empty seat that is nowhere near where Chris is sitting but is actually just in front of the window.

I notice a girl sitting in my seat beside Chris' and jealousy crepts its way in my heart as I see the girl holding back a giggle just after Chris whispered something in her ears.

He probably told her one of his corny pick up lines. Weren't they only meant for me?

I decided to stare out at the scenery instead, hoping that it would provide me with a better view.

However, I felt it all go in vain as my eyes drifted back to the grey eyed boy once again who was sitting right in front of me just a few rows away.

I couldn't help but notice the way his lips stretched upwards when he smiled and a small dimple forming on his cheek making his face just so stare worthy.

The way he genuinely laughed and his whole body shook in a dreamy way and the way his long fingers ran through his silky brown hair and down his jawline making my fingers aching to replace his.

I don't know what is happening to me very honestly but right now, staring at him feels the only right in all the wrongs taking place in my life.

How is it fair that he has such a hot looking body with a perfectly chiseled face and the most perfect set of teeth and I on the other hand look like a complete mess?

I am definitely not saying that I look horrifying or anything because well both my parents are extremely good looking so it's only fair that Ty and I carry some of their genes which include us looking good too, however, me in comparison to my guy sitting in front of me just makes me look a lot less beautiful than what the mirror makes it seem like.

Did I just say my guy?

It has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?

Guess I will be able to call him mine only in my dreams. Atleast things can happen my way somewhere in this universe.

I continue staring at him not caring about the long ass speech Mr. Edward has been narrating since the past ten minutes because well, one, I can get it on the site and two, I love the view right now.

My gaze is drawn back to his perfect face as his tongue wets his lips and all I want to do in this moment is kiss those damn lips and rip off the girl's head sitting beside him clearly oogling him and staring at his lips.

He contiues to chat with her for a while and with every passing second the anger just keeps riling up inside of me and I have no idea how to control my emotions. Damn him.

How could he not notice her clearly eye fucking him?

Is he that stupid or is he actually interested in her?

A frown replaces the small smile on my face as I begin to think about them going on dates and actually getting into a relationship and with that all my wishes crumble down in a heap named unfulfilled wishes.

I didn't even realise that I was staring at the book on my desk until my name is being called by Mr. Edward who is looking at me impatiently while tapping his feet on the ground.

Shit, he must have asked me some question when I was clearly zoned out.

I look up expectantly and voice out a sorry making me sound like a dying walrus.

He just shakes his head and asks me to take my seat which I gladly adhere to.

I copy some of the notes from the board and pen down the important points, actually paying attention to this class. Having my parents called for not paying attention in class(es) is definitely not on my bucket list today.

After I feel like I have written just enough, my eyes start lifting up to see the guy because of whom I was just about to get a detention slip.

However, this time my eyes aren't the only ones doing the staring.

His beautiful grey eyes are staring right at mine and I just can't help but get lost in them. It feels like we are speaking so much through this eye contact yet so less.

We continue staring at each other until his lips start moving as if he is telling me something but it is just going above my head.

I draw my lips in a "what" way and he seems to get it. His lips start moving slowly as he tries his best to make me understand.

Okay, you can do this Aur.

I look at his lips and start writing the words I can understand.

I think the first word is "Edward" and I nod urging him to say the next word. His lips begin to move again and this time I think he's trying to say "is again". Wow, I am Sherlock Holmes. I nod once again and he begins to speak, however, this time the word seems pretty big and I just can't decipher what he's trying to utter. He speaks once again and I sort of get the word "stare".

Just as I am about to ask him to say it again, the bell rings singnalling the end of this torturous history class.

I get up quickly and start to pack my things. I see everybody leaving the class and I pick my bag up and make my way towards the door too. However, my walk is soon cut off as I hear Mr. Edward calling my name for the third time today.

"Ms. Stephens, may I have a word with you?"

"Uh oh," I mutter under my breath and turn on my feet.

"I noticed that you weren't paying attention at all today. Is there something bothering you or do you think learning history is just not important anymore?"

"No, I really apologise for not paying attention today. I love learning history, it's just that my mind was not in the class today. I am really sorry and I know I keep disappointing you today but I assure you,  it won't repeat."

"Alright Ms. Stephens, I hope you stay on your word. You may leave now."

I mutter a thank you and quickly rush out of the class.

I am soon engulfed in a pair of strong arms holding me in place and I look up to see Chris' face as he erupts in another fit of laughter. His laugh echoing down the hallways.

I somehow manage my way out of his arms as much as I didn't want to so that I can get a clear view of his face. Why is he so drool worthy? It's not fair at all.

"What were you trying to tell me exactly?"

"God Aur, I was trying to tell you that Edward was staring at you."

"Couldn't you have told me properly? How do you expect me to read your lips?" I roll my eyes.

"So Aur, you are telling me you didn't have fun reading my lips?" He whispers seductively in my ear and I feel a shiver travel down my spine.

I don't let him see my face as I am pretty sure it's beetroot red by now.

"Two can play this game," I speak to myself as I slowly stand on my tip toes to reach his ears.

"Oh you have no idea but I bet next time I will have more fun to not just read your lips from afar." I whisper as my breath fans his ears and I drop down on my feet adjusting my backpack on my shoulder.

I notice him gulping on his saliva and his Adam apple pops out clearly showing how nervous he's getting.

I just let out a loud laugh on looking at him and walk a few steps towards him.

"God, your face," I laugh again as I look at him one last time still standing on the very same place and I start to make my way towards my next class.

Not soon am I pulled back again as an arm encircles my waist and I hear him whisper something in my ear that just causes me to freeze and I turn to look into his eyes which suddenly hold so much of seriousness that this time, it's my turn to gulp nervously.

So what do you guys think about this chapter? What do you think Jake told Saph? Most importantly, what is it that made our Aurora freeze in the end? I live for your comments and I want you guys to know that you all are just amazing!

I love you quackika20 for the amazing cover on the top!! Don't know what I'd do without you! Thanks a ton!

Please colour the star orange because that gives me more motivation to write the next chapter!
