Chapter 1: Amazingly Miserable

"Don't judge people for the choices they make when you don't know the options they had to choose from." - Anonymous

I woke up to a pair of light brown eyes that were covered by strands of golden hair, with the owner of those eyes jumping on my bed. I ducked my head under the pillow in an attempt to zone out his tiny barks but I didn't succeed.

"It's high time you stop doing that Tuck! You heard me?"

As if he could actually understand what I was saying, he looked at me with his puppy dog eyes, literally, melting my heart right away.

"Huh one good reason why I can't marry this sweetheart," I spoke loudly as I caressed his back with my fingers.

"Cause that would mean you making his life even more miserable than it already is," Ty answered back as he was walking down the stairs.

Ty aka Tyler Stephens is my twin brother and no, fortunately, we do not look identical. We are two poles of the magnet and while he's a charmer at our school with girls falling at his feet, I am happy to sit in a corner with my group. Getting unwanted attention has never been my forte.

"Says the one who has literally fucked almost all the female population of Fremont High and not made their life miserable at all," I yelled on top of my lungs. It wasn't a great comeback, but do I look like I care?

Sadly my happiness didn't last very long.

"I swear if you guys do not shut up and show up for breakfast right now, you will see my worst side," our mother shouted from down the stairs.

Oh trust me when I say this, but you would not want to get on my mother's worst side. Ever.

"Coming down in 15 minutes", I said loudly so that she would not pester me further.

Really what is with everyone yelling so early in the morning? I groaned and picked up Tucker who was running around me in circles. Where he gets all this energy from I will never understand, is it the dog food?

"Time for you to irritate the others Tuck," I told him in a childlike voice while shooing him out of my room.

I needed to freshen up. I looked at my phone and I knew I was in deep shit. It was already 7:30 and being my first day of senior year I definitely had to hurry up. I quickly went and brushed my teeth while looking for a decent outfit to wear.

I finally settled on a pair of ripped jeans and a white crop top paired with my amazing converse. I smiled at my choice and quickly went to take a shower.

After two minutes in heaven, I got out of the shower and got dressed up. I am usually not the one for make-up, unless of course my mother forces me to, so I applied some mascara and lip gloss, made my hair into a high pony and descended down the stairs with my backpack.

I looked at the clock and mentally high-fived myself when it showed 7:50. However my ass of a brother was already sitting on the table busy filling his mouth with all the food. I really don't know how he eats like that.

I sat on the table and was eating my toast when the doorbell rang. I drank my favourite apple juice in one go and headed for the door with the toast in my hand.

I smiled at the pair of sky blue eyes and greeted my best friend with a giant bear hug.

"Hey Saph! I missed you!" I almost shouted in her ears.

"Come on in." I literally dragged her inside while she was trying to get out of my grip.

"Hey Clara, it's so nice to see you again! Oh hey Ty, still having breakfast?" she laughed chirpily.

"Morning kiddos, first day huh?" asked our dad with a smiled etched on his face while making his way to the breakfast table.

"Nice to meet you Ed," Saph greeted him with a hug.

"Seems like you are handsome as ever," Saph added a wink.

"Of course child, old and I never go in the same sentence," my dad grinned while asking her how her vacation had been.

Saph had gone to Hong Kong with her parents last week. And she told me everything she did there more than five times.

"Please dad, don't make her start again. She has described her vacation so many times, it feels like I was there with her too," I pleaded with my eyes.

While my dad laughed heartily, one could not miss the glare Saph was throwing towards me.

"Don't worry Saph, you can tell us all about your vacation today after school. I am looking forward to it," my dad smiled while putting some toast on his plate.

He's the best dad in the world. From watching Disney movies with me when I was a kid to getting me presents all the time or comforting me whenever I felt low, he has always been an ideal dad.

"Time for you all to get to school," our mom said while making her way to us and giving us sloppy wet kisses on the cheeks while saying goodbye.

Saph and I laughed out loud while watching Ty rub his cheeks and erase any trace of our mother's lipstick.

Ty sat in the driver's seat while I took the passenger seat and Saph got the back seat.

Sapphire is the daughter of my mother's best friend who lives right beside our house and you can say we were basically brought up together. From playing with Barbie dolls to dressing up for parties, we have done all of that together.

She is the only person whom I can confide in with everything and anything. Sapphire was the only child which is why she was treated like a princess, but as far as I know her, she is the complete opposite, and I am very thankful she didn't turn out to become some spoiled rich brat.

She has a beautiful model like body, which I am slightly jealous of and gorgeous long straight honey brown hair which goes all the way to her shoulders, while mine rest just above my waist and have a caramel tinge to them.

Almost every guy that sees her falls for her charm, but Saph doesn't do relationships. So many guys at Fremont High have asked her out but not one has had the luck to get a yes out of her mouth. She always says she's not the one for love, but I know somewhere out there is a guy who's going to make her knees go weak and love her like no one else ever did.

Well at least I am rooting for her and her Prince Bad ass.

I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't even realize we were entering our schools gate.

Fremont high was only 10 minutes away from our neighbourhood. As soon as we entered the gates, Saph and I nearly jumped up and down with excitement, oh whom am I kidding? It went something like me not wanting to get out of the car and Saph pulling my hand to come out.

Come on, who likes to go to school, when all you get to see is cheerleaders throwing themselves at the hot jocks of the school, my brother included, though what I don't know from what angle they think he looks good - followed by all the boring classes you have got to attend and on top of that my non-existent love life.

"Come on, get out, this year I have promised myself to get you a boyfriend."

"Yeah right, says the one who's probably more desperate to get one," I scoffed.

"Oh shut up and get your ass outta the car girl, or you know I can get you to!" Saph said while trying to act all tough even though she was obviously going to burst out laughing.

"Ugh, fine, move" I said in an irritated manner which only made her triumphant smirk grow even more. Why could I not stay at home again?

"Because you have got to enter a university and unfortunately they don't allow students who haven't graduated," my conscience rudely replied.

I ran a hand through my straight caramel golden brown hair while untangling the slight knots that had formed at the ends. I busied myself with my brand new iPhone 8, flipping through Instagram stories while replying to some texts.

The moment I was about to ask Saph where we were heading to, I banged into something hard, making me lose my balance and just as I was about to fall, a strong muscular arm gripped my waist and held my unsteady self-upright, and I forced myself to look up into a pair of dark grey eyes that looked just like the stormy weather, seeming like they held a whirlwind of secrets in them, making me stare at those beautiful yet mysterious pair.

And, as I was admiring the beauty, I realized, I was day dreaming again.

"Damn, this floor hurts!" I almost cried out loud. I told them it was a bad idea to let me step foot in this school, but the day people actually consider what I say will be the day I would be tired of eating skittles, that is, never.

"As clumsy as always now, are we?" smirked Sapphire while controlling her laughter.

"Way to go Aurora William Stephens. First day of school and look at the crowd you have already gathered," I groaned to myself while making my way to my first class.

My first class was history which bored me to death and our teacher Mr. Edward had an awfully wide smile on his face like when you give a kid a bunch of his favourite toys, that exact smile!

But my boredom was soon cut off when a male figure entered the class with his backpack hung low and having one of the exact same moods like mine. Well of course, best friends think alike.

He searched the whole room and when his eyes met mine he gave me a smile and walked towards the vacant seat beside me.

"Hey Chris! Grumpy early in the morning are we?" I smirked while he made himself comfortable in his seat.

"Oh Aur, and here I was hoping that you would want to run away from this hellhole and we could go out to some café, I didn't even have a heavy breakfast," Chris whispered while pointing to his stomach.

I almost gave him a look that said let's get the hell out of here but then decided against it and settled back down with a sigh.

"I wish Chris, but remember there's a whole year to go, backing out on the first day won't be a very good option," I looked at him with disappointment laced in my tone.

"Yeah I know and that's the only reason, I actually decided to show up," he sighed heavily.

The rest of Mr. Edward's history class went with Chris telling me jokes that he recently made up, which to be honest were pretty good, but we wouldn't want to boost his ego and send him flying up high in the sky now, would we?

While Mr. Edward was busy shooting us his best glares, all we did was crack stupid jokes and tell each other corny pick-up lines that we recently heard while laughing out loud.

Hell with history, you put Chris and me in one room and trust us to bring the whole room down, and Saph on top of it would mean us bringing the whole building down. Yep, we are an amazing trio!

After walking out of the class, the only thing that clouded my mind was how two more hours had to go before I could feed my stomach. Yeah I know I just ate breakfast but come on, I am a growing girl.

While putting on a fake smile, I headed to my next class which was situated at the corner of the hall.

I literally felt like going back the way I came from after looking at the bold letters that said 'Chemistry Lab'. Not having any other option in hand, I headed inside the room filled with so many familiar yet ironically new faces.
