Chapter 2.
Priya yawned and opened her eyes, looking around. It didn't strike her last night but now she realizes she is in Dante's room, she slept in his bed. Feeling bad, she quickly jumped up and made the bed. She needed to get out of here, she felt very intrusive. She needed to grab her bag and her book and get out of here. She doesn't know where she'll go but she can't come back here, she can't even sit outside the shop and read anymore. As the young girl walked through the hall she tried not to cry. She was so rude. She overstayed her welcome. She found the door leading to the shop. Good.
As she walked down the stairs she thought about Dante sleeping on the couch all because she fell asleep here and... Wait. She remembers her being the one falling asleep on the couch, well, on Dante's lap on the couch, but still. He could have just left her on the couch, so why did he put her in his bed? As soon as Priya stepped off the last step, she heard Dante say "Good, you're awake. Take a shower and we'll get going." Priya turned her head to face the demon hunter and said: "Where are we going?" She was confused, where would he want to take her? She figured he would want her gone by now.
"To get breakfast. I figured you haven't eaten in awhile and I don't got much here so we're gonna go get something." Dante said and put his magazine down.
Priya was taken aback by this. Why is he being so kind to her? He only knows her name, that's it. Despite not knowing her, he let her stay the night, let her sleep in his bed, and is now gonna take her out for breakfast. Why is he being so nice to a complete and total stranger? No one is this nice, no one except for the people in Priya's books. Suddenly, a light feeling started in the young girl's chest. It was nice, gave her a small sense of comfort. It took away some of the pain and heaviness in her chest. She was hoping this would turn out to be like one of her books, where it ends happily.
No, no. Don't be stupid, it never ends happy, never. It only happens in your damn books. That's why it's called fiction. Fiction as in fake, not real, never going to happen. Nothing ever ends happily. Priya mentally berated herself for thinking something so stupid, feeling horrid when the nice, light feeling in her chest went away. Dante is just trying to be extra nice before making her leave. He knows she has nowhere to go, no nice, warm house or even a small, cozy apartment. He was just going to let her stay the night and get her something to eat and that's it. Despite not liking that she has to leave, Priya was grateful that she was allowed to spend the night and is gonna get something to eat. She hasn't eaten since her mother kicked her out.
"But I don't have any clean clothes to change into," Priya said quietly, looking down at her dirty clothes. It used to be a really pretty outfit. A lacy white tank top, black capris shorts, white knee-high socks and black ankle boots. The boots are the only thing that actually looks clean. It's pretty hard to get leather dirty.
"I'll take care of that later. For now, just get back dressed into that and I'll give you one of my shirts to wear." Dante said and stood up, walking past the young girl and upstairs. With a little hesitation, Priya followed. Wondering why he was being so nice. It was scaring her. When someone is being really nice to a total stranger, they usually have ill intentions. Priya has read this happen so many times in her books, but a friend or lover usually appears and stops everything, saving the other person from who knows what. But that isn't going to happen, it's just another thing that people only read in books or see in the movies.
As soon as they were in the demon hunter's room, Dante reached into the nightstand and pulled out a switchblade. Priya felt fear wash over her, she has to escape, now. Now! Priya turned and tried to run but Dante immediately grabbed her arm, pulling her back to him.
So this is why he was being so nice to me, he wants to kill me, or torture me or even... oh god no. Priya thought and tried not to scream or cry, knowing it will only make things worse for herself. The cambion turned her around so she was facing him, he looked calm, like he didn't want to hurt or kill her.
"I won't be able to keep you safe from all the bastards in this city, and as much as I'd like too, I can't. So you're gonna need to protect yourself when I'm not with you." Dante said and flicked his wrist, the blade immediately coming out.
Priya jumped back, startled. Dante closed the knife and handed it to the young girl before him, saying "Try it." With shaky hands, Priya took the knife, just holding it, scared to do anything else with it. She looked at the cambion before her and positioned her wrist, about to flick it but it was suddenly grabbed.
"You have to do it just right, if you're not careful you could seriously hurt yourself, and that blade will take off fingers." The demon hunter said and positioned her wrist, letting go seconds after and saying "Try it." Priya took a deep breath, she felt sick, she didn't want to do this. It scared the hell out of her.
In one quick motion, Priya flicked her wrist and the blade swished out, the young girl nearly jumping out of her skin.
"Good, do it again and but try not to jump. The time it takes you to jump like that, whoever is attacking you can take your knife and they can use that against you while you're in your startled daze." Dante said and took the knife, closing it and returning it to the young girl. Priya took another deep breath, flicking her wrist. But as she was doing that, a loud crash and screaming were heard from outside, causing her to fumble with the knife and cut her arm.
Priya gasped and held her arm, wishing she knew how to stop the blood that was flowing from her cut. Dante ran out of the room, not looking back. Priya let out a choked sob, not wanting to be alone. Suddenly her knees buckled under her, the pain too much for her to handle. She watched her arm bleed as tears started to stream down her cheeks, a few falling and mixing with the blood. She wanted to scream but suddenly Dante ran back in the room, sitting down beside her and opening a first aid kit. He also had a bottle of water but Priya didn't know what that was for.
Dante grabbed the necessary items from the first aid kit and grabbed the bottle of water, opening it and pouring it over the cut. Priya winced and cried out, the water was freezing. As soon the blood was gone, the demon hunter started examining the wound. He sighed in relief and said, "It doesn't need stitches." He grabbed a bottle of disinfectant spray and started to spritz it all over the cut, causing the young girl to cry out in pain again.
"I know, I know, just try and bear with it," Dante said and grabbed gauze. Placing a bunch on the cut and putting a lot of pressure on it. Priya whimpered, the pain even worse.
After what felt like forever, Dante replaced the dirty gauze with clean ones and used an ace bandage to keep it in place. He stood up and looked at his floor that was wet with water and sticky with blood.
"I'll clean it," Priya said and tried to stand up but seemed to have difficulty. As soon as she stood up she had to lean against the wall to support herself. Dante quickly picked her up and carried her over to his bed, laying her down and saying "No, just lay down, I'll clean it." As he rushed off to get a mop he was glad his room doesn't have carpet.
Priya looked around the room, her vision was a little fuzzy but she seemed okay despite feeling a bit light headed. She closed her eyes and steadied her breathing, wondering when Dante will be back, unaware that he was in the room and already cleaning the mess. After 30 minutes, which only seemed like a few seconds to the young girl laying in bed, Dante was done cleaning the mess of water and blood. He stood up and looked at Priya, she looked pale and he knew it wasn't a good thing. He tried to think of what to do, unsure of what he is supposed to do. He remembers that after giving or losing blood you need to eat and drink something. He didn't have much but he did plan on taking her out to eat, so now would be the best time to do it.
The demon hunter walked over to his bed and was surprised to find Priya giggling quietly. She was most likely a little delusional from blood loss. He picked her up and started carrying her out of the apartment but she started talking in an odd voice, she sounded like she was sick.
"You're so sweet, letting me stay here and sleeping in your bed. I like you, and I don't like men, but that's because you're better than most men." Priya said and closed her eyes, Dante just grunted as a response, which Priya didn't like so she said "I'm serious! All my other boyfriends were bastards and they treated me like I was nothing, they made me do everything! I cleaned their houses and rooms, some of them still lived with their parents. They talked about me to their friends like I was nothing more than a slave to them! I'm nothing but a complete stranger to you but you have done so much for me! Not even my dad has been this nice to me. You're better than every other guy I have met." Dante wasn't sure if she actually did mean all this or if she was just really delusional. Whatever, it didn't matter. She would most likely want to leave him as soon as she was better, he hasn't really been that nice, plus because of him she now has a nasty cut on her arm.
The demon hunter stepped outside and saw what the crash and screaming was, there was a nasty car crash. He got Priya into the passenger seat of his car and did her seat belt for her, knowing she wouldn't be able to even find it in the state she is in. He got in the passenger seat, and quickly started the car, driving off to the nearest, nicest diner. As he drove he contemplated everything Priya said, did she mean it or was it just some random babbling brought on by dizziness and blood loss. Honestly, he hoped it was the former.
