Karla Camila Cabello's Point Of View

I turned the keys in the lock on my apartment door, feeling it get stuck in the middle of the way. So, I removed them roughly and inserted another key from the keychain, making in a few instants the door open completely, finally giving me the chance to enter the apartment. I dropped my purse inside the apartment and threw the keys on the shelf near the entrance, and took off my jacket as I walked towards the living room. My head was teeming with everything that had happened hours ago, and even if I tried at all costs to avoid something that would negatively impact me, maintaining some kind of tranquility with her return was almost impossible. Every time I imagined this moment, my attitudes would be superior, almost majestic; and that was exactly what I did, but unlike what I imagined, I hadn't come out totally free of heavy weights on my conscience or hatred in my heart. In an alternative universe created by my mind, I'd show Lauren that I had become someone totally different, that nothing and no one could shake me, not even her, who one day was so important to me.

"You should have stayed in that damn town!" I said out loud to no one.

"Good Morning, Ms. Cabello." Anabel, one of my maids murmured as she approached.

"Good Morning."

"Can I get you anything?"

"Get me something to drink, please."

"But Ms. Kordei said that-"

"Do as I say, okay? Go and get me something strong."

The woman nodded frightened and left the room quickly. Normani besides being my best friend and personal agent, also took care of taking care of me. She dictated some rules in my house to keep everything in order. And one of them was the forbiddance of alcoholic beverages in excess. The employees were totally forbidden to give me any type of drink that had an alcohol content; Normani thought that at any moment I'd go back to drinking incessantly like I used to a long time ago, when I actually had control over it. I went through a bad phase a long time ago, but it had already passed, I had gotten over it. I lay down on the white couch of the living room, letting my body relax on the soft, cozy pillows. I couldn't think about anything else but that woman. Even after so many years, her return had fallen like a bomb on my shoulders.

"Here it is, ma'am."

"Leave me alone now, you can go home."

"What? But..."

"Jesus Christ! Go home, and tell the others to go home, too! I'm giving you the day off and you still question me?" I let out impatiently.

"Okay, I'll leave my number in the kitchen, in case you need something."

"Thank you, Anabel. Now please, leave me alone."

I opened the unopened bottle of Whiskey, it was one of the most expensive that I dared buy, and poured it into the glass, seeing the liquid with such a strong aroma move slowly around the ice-cubes. I put the bottle aside, grabbing the glass from the coffee table to then bring it to my lips. I closed my eyes and savored the drink as soon as it came into contact with my lips and tongue. I needed something that'd make me forget for a couple of hours that that woman was back, and in that moment alcohol was the only thing that could help me. Seeing Lauren in that audience was the most shocking moment of the whole fashion show, it was as if fate was proving that it was the biggest responsible for our lives; and that no matter what we did, if it had a certain path planned for us, it wouldn't matter which roads we followed, because sooner or later what was predestined in the pages of life would happen. And if in the pages of my story Lauren had to appear again, I'd have to know how to show that I had the power to change. I couldn't make the same mistake again and give myself like I did one day. The paths I had traveled from the moment I stepped on that plane, leaving my whole life to run after my dream, were troubled and hard to deal with. And with the combination of all that, today, I was someone quite different.

"It could have been different, Lauren. But you didn't want to..." I whispered as I took consecutive sips of the strong drink, which went down my throat, burning my insides.

I felt suffocated, as if my chest was full of unfinished feelings, unresolved issues, heartache and exposed wounds. As if everything was going wrong and the whole world was collapsing around me. A feeling of weakness, pain and anger. Anger for feeling so fragile for someone who didn't deserve even a tear from me. But there was nothing I wanted to do more in that instant that wasn't crying; release with all my tears that emptiness so full of hurt and suffering. I hated myself, hated for knowing that one day I gave myself so completely to someone, that I allowed myself to build on a love all the plans for my future, for our future; someone who didn't even tell the truth to those who deserved it. Someone who was dishonest with me and with herself.

Everything could have been different, we had everything...

*Flashback On*

I heard the noise of hurried footsteps upstairs, followed by the sound of the leash being dragged. Sofi, my five-year-old sister, was running around with our little, or rather, our big little monster Aladdin, a one-year-old golden retriever. He had been adopted by us last month during the charity fair in our neighborhood, even against my mother's liking, who always kept saying that he'd only mess up the whole house, since both Sofi and I totally ruled out the possibility of letting him sleep outside.

"I already told Sofi to play with that dog in the garden." Sinu grumbled as she put the cookie dough on the baking sheet. "He'll end up breaking something."

I let out a soft chuckle at the memory of the vase we broke last week. My mother didn't know so far, of course. Otherwise she'd have put the poor dog sleeping on the porch, or maybe not. Sinuhe, despite appearing to be an extremely careful and responsible mother, had a heart as soft as butter; she did everything and a little more to make us incredibly happy and satisfied. From a very young age, she worked hard alongside my father, Alejandro Cabello, to give us the best things possible. And even if it wasn't much, it was enough. Sofi and I were fully aware that if nowadays we had a relatively good financial situation, it was thanks to both of them, who came from the small town of Cojimar in Cuba looking to give us the best in the US.

"Don't stress yourself, mom. The cookies will turn out bad."

"And since when do my cookies turn out bad? You know that your mother is great in the kitchen!"

"Well, I can't say the same for myself, look at this." I said as I lifted the bowl with the cookie dough, it didn't even come unglued from the bottom.

"Oh, God. Let me finish this, cooking isn't your forte." She said as she approached me, taking the bowl from my hands.

"Completely agree. My forte is walking down a runway!" I started walking around the kitchen, while imagining I was walking down a very important runway in my thoughts. I could hear my mother's laughter, which made me laugh too amid the model-like expressions I was doing. "I'll still be a great model."

Sinuhe set the bowl aside to wipe her hands, which were dirty with wheat and chocolate, on the apron tied around her waist. She stared at me with those glittering and motherly eyes that drove me every day to be who I am.

"I'm sure you'll be, mi hija. Just chase after your dreams and you'll succeed." She gently kissed my forehead as she ran her fingers down my cheeks. "But with a clean face, of course. Yours is full of wheat."

I let out a chuckle and pulled away from her quickly.

"What? It's charming!"

"Okay, charming young lady. Go see what your sister is doing while I put these cookies in the oven. When they are ready, I'll call you to eat."

I just nodded and then deposited a kiss on her cheek, to only then leave the kitchen. I went upstairs, heading towards Sofi's bedroom, where even from afar I could hear the hysterical screams and amused laughter accompanied by Aladdin's barking. I widened my eyes upon seeing the girl's bedroom totally messy, with the teddy bears scattered on the floor. The drawers of the dressers were open and the clothes scattered all over the floor.

"Sofi!"

The younger one stopped bouncing on the bed with the golden retriever who now had pink ballet tutu wrapped around his body.

"Hi, Kaki."

"Oh my God, mom is going to kill you." I walked into the room while I picked up the clothes from the floor. "Get down from there, help me."

The little girl came down from the bed quickly, being followed by the dog. In a matter of minutes, we managed to put the clothes inside the drawers, not in such an organized way like Sinu had left them, but it was better than leaving them scattered on the bedroom floor.

"I'm sorry, Kaki."

"You don't have to apologize. But don't make such a mess next time. Mom will end up putting Aladdin to sleep outside."

"No!"

"Then start thinking before doing things!"

"I just wanted to play. Do you want to play with me?"

"Oh, Sofi..." I stared at her, and she was staring at me with those puppy dog eyes that made me lose all the courage to say no. "Alright, what do you want to do?"

"We can play Karaoke, come on."

My sister held my hand, pulling me towards the stairs. We went down to the living room, where she took care of turning on the TV, to then put a CD inside our DVD player.

"Here's your mic, Kaki." She handed me one of them, keeping the other for herself.

I let out an amused laugh and then grabbed the mic from her hand. I looked at the television, watching the first images of the movie I knew so well by heart. Sofi loved watching High School Musical, mainly because we did all the performances together, like the characters of the movie.

"I'll be Gabriela, and you Troy!" She said quickly.

"Okay, then I'll start."

I turned up the volume of the TV so that I could get into the character like I always did. Sofi stared at me and smiled excitedly as we waited for the first scenes of the movie, until the moment when they'd start singing. I cleared my throat a couple of times, as if that was going to help me sing better. I brought the mic up to my lips, when the song finally began. I dubbed Troy Bolton's voice initially, being followed by Sofi who played Gabriela. We both started singing and dancing according to the rhythm that "Start Of Something Knew" dictated. Even being seventeen years old, I still had fun in the most childish ways with my sister, she was one of the people I loved most in my life, and I felt really happy to see her excited with my presence.

This could be the start
Of something new
It feels so right
To be here with you

We sang together as we spun around the living room amid amused laughter. I heard my mother's voice in the background, but didn't even care. I continued dancing and singing, repeating all the expressions that Troy did during the song. I held Sofi's hand and spun her body while singing with the mic in my hand. Until finally the song ended, and we finished singing the last part, which was interrupted by applause.

"I slayed it, right mom..." My eyes widened. "Lauren!"

The young girl had a broad smile on her lips, leaving her white teeth exposed. I felt my cheeks heat up, giving me the certainty of the redness that blushed them in that instant.

"Your mom let me in, she's outside talking to the postman." She said somewhat awkwardly, but still with that smile. "And you slayed it indeed."

"Oh, don't say that. I'm dying of embarrassment." I shook my head, letting a nervous laugh escape my mouth. "Lauren, this is my little sister Sofia."

"Hello, Sofia. I'm Lauren Jauregui, nice to meet you."

The girl approached my sister politely and held out her hand in greeting. Sofi was extremely communicative, and didn't take long to get along well with Lauren. As soon as Sinu walked into the living room, I stared at her reprehensively; she seemed to understand why, because she just laughed as she walked towards the kitchen.

"Sofi, we're going to my bedroom. We have a paper to do, but after I'll play with you, okay?"

"If you want, you can play with us too, Lauren."

"Oh, of course, little one! I'll play with you." She said as she softly stroked my sister's hair.

We went upstairs in full silence. I was still too embarrassed that she had seen me that way, not that my friends didn't see my antics every day, but Lauren was a newcomer, and she didn't constantly witness that side of mine. I stared at her for a few seconds, letting those so deep and glittering eyes land on me. I loved her eyes, they had that greenish color that changed hue throughout the day, perhaps according to her mood; most of the time I managed to catch her looking at me, maybe in an attempt to get to know me better, and I loved that.

"This is my bedroom." I pointed to the door, and she entered slowly.

"I wouldn't believe you if you said otherwise, it's so you."

The girl walked around the room, analyzing everything completely. My bedroom was relatively large, some of the walls were white and others had a light green wallpaper. There was a wooden desk near the board that was on the wall, which was full of pictures and little notes. Lauren sat down on the cushions of the wooden bench that was in front of the window, right next to my bookcase.

"Why?"

"The décor is very similar to what I see of you. Everything very delicate and well organized. All very sweet and subtle, it's beautiful."

"I'll take that as a compliment, Lauren."

She nodded with a smile, and then I walked over to the bookcase beside her. Lauren was still paying attention to the room. I allowed myself to watch her for a few instants, and the beauty that that young girl possessed was incredible. Her brown, wavy hair contrasted perfectly well with her white skin. Lauren was the owner of a very beautiful body, nothing extremely shapely like gym rats, but natural and incredibly beautiful.

"Here's the other copy. If you want you can keep mine, I don't mind."

"There's no need, Camila. I just need to have the time to buy one. We can go to a bookstore, what do you think?"

"I have two, and you really want to buy one?! Don't be silly, come to bed."

She looked at me again and smiled. We lay on the bed, face down, side by side. We divided the chapters into two; I'd start reading while she'd write down some notes, and then we'd switch roles. Lauren wrote down all the important stuff from my reading, while time or another she watched me.

"Read more slowly, Mila." She laughed. "I can't write anything down like this."

"I'm sorry, I thought I was going slowly." I closed the book and stared at her with a smile.

"You were going well, but then it got too fast and I kind of got lost."

"I can go slower, you prefer it that way?"

My eyes met hers, and remained fixed. I felt incredibly exposed to that girl's eyes, as if she could see even my thoughts. But something prevented me from interrupting her, even if I felt naked, I wanted to. Lauren from the first moment transmitted me something different, a good energy, a charming smile and a peculiar way of looking at me.

"Yes." She whispered, and then took her eyes off me. "Where did we stop?"

I stared at her for a few more instants, and then turned my attention back to the book. We spent hours in that room, reading and rereading the passages from the chapters indicated by the teacher. We wrote down all the necessary notes, when we heard a noise at the door.

"No, please... No." I said quietly.

Aladdin stared at me as he wagged his tail frantically from one side to the other. Should I mention that he was totally dirty with a dark mud? I looked at Lauren, who was now as scared as I was. I moved slowly, getting off the bed in an absurd slowness as to not draw him closer.

"Stay put... Good boy..." I whispered to the dog who was still panting and wagging his tail quickly. I got down from the bed slowly, and when I tried to approach, he ran.

"Oh my God!" Lauren exclaimed as she saw the golden retriever entering the room with the intention of destroying everything.

He looked much more excited than usual, because he was running from one side to the other as if he had drunk an energy drink. Lauren desperately grabbed our papers from the bed, which promptly drew the dog's attention. Our hysterical screams were heard very loudly as I tried to hold him, without success.

"Stop!" I yelled as I grabbed the dog.

I was breathless and dirty. The animal stared at me before starting to lick me frantically, wagging the damn tail excitedly.

"Jesus..."

I looked up and faced Lauren, who suppressed a smile on her lips. I couldn't hold myself together in face of the situation I found myself in, so I just let a laugh escape my mouth, accompanied by the girl's laughter. We led the dog out of the room, taking him outside. My mother was grumbling as she went up the stairs to clean up the mess that Aladdin had done, since I was put in charge of removing all the mud from the poor dog.

"I'm sorry about this." I said to Lauren who was sitting on the steps in front of my house, as she watched me tranquilly.

"You don't need to apologize, Camila."

"Of course I do, it's the first time you come to my house and look what happens." I gestured to the dog who was drinking the water that came out of the hose in my hand.

"It happens, don't worry. Now focus, clean everything, make it shine." She mocked.

I rolled my eyes pretending impatience, which made the girl giggle. I aimed the jet of water at the body of the animal who wouldn't stand still for a single minute. Sofi soon appeared to give me a hand, which only created more mess. I was knocked to the ground when Aladdin jumped up in surprise to get ahold of the hose. I got up quickly, now wet and dirty, as I heard Lauren's and my little sister's amused and infectious laughter.

"You two laughing at me, huh?"

"Oh, sorry, Camila..." She was laughing so hard that she was out of breath.

"Well, you two will see what's good for you!"

I turned the hose towards both girls who screamed and laughed hysterically. Lauren got up quickly, but I aimed the jet of water at her body, making her run across the lawn, slipping on the grass full of dog shampoo. I burst out laughing, earning a murderous look from the green-eyed girl. She got up, grabbing the small bucket of water from the ground, and before I could run away, I felt the cold water come into contact with my body. Aladdin was euphoric as he watched the water war we initiated in my garden. We ended that war lying on the lawn, next to my dog who finally lay down to rest.

"Girls! What happened here?"

We sat up on the ground to face my mother, who was standing in the doorway. My eyes landed on Lauren's, making the girl laugh and making my mother cast us a suspicious look. We got up, taking the towels offered by the older woman, and headed into the house. The rest of the afternoon went by as we watched a movie and enjoyed the delicious cookies made by Sinu. Lauren was delighted with my mother's culinary skills, and my mother with my new friend's friendliness.

"Thank you for today." She said with a smile.

"Thank YOU, and I'm really sorry."

I gestured pointing to the backpack with her wet clothes. Lauren was now wearing my clothes, a sweatshirt and jean shorts. Even though she had more body than I did, the clothes looked really good on her.

"Why do you apologize so much? I loved spending the afternoon with you."

"We didn't even finish the paper."

"We can finish it tomorrow, in the school library, it's safer." She whispered as she pointed to Aladdin.

I let out a soft chuckle and shook my head at the memory of what the dog had done.

"That sounds good."

We stared at each other for a few seconds that seemed to last longer than normal. Lauren looked so beautiful, her hair was wet, however, it still looked perfect. She was wearing my white sweatshirt with the sun and the moon stamped on the front, and on her lower half she only had dark jean shorts.

"So, I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes, of course!"

Lauren and I hugged each other and said goodbye, and I stayed watching her walk away. By fate's mere coincidence, as soon as the girl climbed down the stairs of my house, Ethan's Jeep stopped in the street.

"Hey! Lauren!" The boy shouted as we waved.

The girl flashed me one last smile before waving and walking towards Ethan's car. For some reason, I had the feeling that the boy wasn't the best option for Lauren, but who was I to interfere?

*Flashback Off*

I woke up from my reveries when I heard Normani's voice echo through my apartment. The woman was complaining about something that I couldn't understand, maybe the excess alcohol was already affecting me at deep levels.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?"

"Leave me alone, Mani." I grumbled as I lay down on the couch again.

"No, I won't. You are completely drunk, locked in this apartment."

Normani walked to the living room windows, opening the curtains so that the light would flood my apartment. I closed my eyes quickly, feeling them get bothered by the light. I saw the woman approaching, grabbing the bottle and the glass from my hands.

"Enough of this."

"Come on, Normani!"

She didn't take long to come back from the kitchen with a serious expression. I closed my eyes again and remained lying on the couch. I would ignore her, because I knew exactly the lecture that I was going to get. I wasn't that drunk, just enough to make me dizzy.

"What happened?" Due to the absence of an answer, she insisted. "Camila!"

I huffed angrily and opened my eyes, now seeing the woman sitting in front of me. I knew that she worried about me, but all I wanted was to be alone with my thoughts.

"Nothing happened!"

"For you to be like this, something must have happened."

"I'm like this, I've always done this." I grumbled as I got up from the couch, walking towards the stairs. "I've always been unhappy."

I entered my bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me. I hated feeling so fragile, so weak. After so many years creating a wall around my feelings, that woman with her presence alone had the power to destroy what I swore to be unbreakable.

"Camila! Wait!" Lauren shouted as she ran after me. "Camila, please!"

I felt her hand closing around my arm, preventing me from continuing to walk away.

"What do you want?!" I shouted.

"Please, let me explain..." The girl begged.

"Explain what? That you played me the fool this whole time? Spare me from that!"

I sat down on the bedroom floor, letting the salty tears fall. I couldn't hold them anymore, not in that moment. For many years, I swore that I would no longer shed not even a tear for Lauren, and it wasn't for her, now it was for me. I let a single fact from my past change my view of the world and the people around me. I wasn't proud of who I was even having achieved everything I always wanted, I still felt empty and alone. I had my friends, my family, but still an emptiness took over me, as if there was something missing to make me truly complete.

"It won't be you who will occupy this place, Jauregui."

I don't know for how long I stayed crying, but I remained in tears until being overcome by sleep. I scarcely remember having seen Normani walk into my room next to Ally, the two put me on the bed so I could rest. I woke up the next morning, miraculously without a headache, but with a lousy face. I got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom for a cold shower. As I left the bedroom and reached the kitchen, I could see my best friends at the breakfast table.

"Finally, sleeping beauty." Ally said as she sipped her coffee.

I smirked, sitting down on the chair in front of her.

"Good Morning, girls."

"Good Morning." Normani stared at me, perhaps analyzing my mood.

"Mani..." I rested my hand over hers, drawing her curious gaze. "I'm sorry about yesterday, I..."

"It's alright, okay? I'm not upset. I understand why you were like that, but I don't want you to let yourself get unsettled."

"Mani is right, Mila. We want your well-being."

"I'm great, as good as it gets."

They both knew that I was lying, but didn't dare contradict me. Living so many years alongside Ally and Normani made us get to know each other perfectly well, to the point of not interfering with each other's limits.

"Perfect, it's good that you're great. We have a photo shoot for Victoria's Secret today."

I took a deep breath, swallowing hard. But I just nodded, showing that that hadn't bothered me at all.

"Alright, we'll go."

I noticed that both of them exchanged a complicit look, and I just served myself some of the delicious breakfast that was on the table.

-----

I looked at myself in front of the mirror analyzing the first lingerie offered for the photo shoot. They were all made of lace, with different colors and different models. The first one was black, with a padded bra and small, delicate panties connected to the stockings on my legs by the tight garter belt. I put on the white robe and put on the high heels, and walked into the studio set up especially for the photos. As I stepped into the large room, I had the sight of Lauren in an entertaining conversation with Dinah; I rolled my eyes impatiently, but put on the most cynical and false expression I could. Lauren would be present in every job I had to do for VS, as general director of the project, her assessment was fundamental. And I wouldn't give that woman the satisfaction of knowing that she still affected me, on the contrary, I'd show that I could live very well without her.

"Dinah!" I exclaimed with the best of my smiles.

The very dolled-up and very gorgeous blonde looked at me surprised, with a beautiful smile on her face. Dinah in a few months of contract passed onto me a good energy. She was lively, confident, funny, and above all, sincere. Should I even say that I loved getting to know her from the first moment? We got along right away, as if we knew each other for years.

"Mila, so good to see you! I was worried." She said as she hugged me. "With all that mess at the end of the party, I didn't have the chance to check on you."

"Don't worry, I'm fine!" I let out lively, practically ignoring Lauren's presence at her side.

"I see that. You seem very well-disposed for our photo shoot."

"You know I do my job with pleasure. I loved the models you designed, they are all so beautiful."

"We took forever with this project so everything looked perfect, right Lauren?"

"Yes, of course." She let out somewhat shyly, not looking at me.

I heard the photographer's impatient voice in the background, so I quickly waved to Dinah and walked away. I'd start with the individual photos, and then with other models. I positioned myself in the middle of the dark setting where there was a white divan. I untied the robe's sash that was around my waist, knowing exactly that Lauren's eyes were on me, and then I removed it completely, staying only with the sexy lingerie. The special lights were turned on and the last finishing touches on my makeup and hair were being done.

"Okay, Karla, I want you to flirt with this camera." The photographer said with a smile. "Tease it."

"With pleasure." I let out with a sly grin.

My eyes wandered around, and behind the photographer was Lauren. She had an intense gaze, as if she wanted to devour me. But I pretended that I didn't even notice. I faced the camera with a provocative look, as if I wanted to seduce it. Lauren shook her head, making a mischievous smile escape from my lips.

"You look wonderful!" The photographer exclaimed.

My poses were sexy, accompanying the expressions I did. The flashes of the camera bathed my body, bringing out the confident and challenging side that I built in me. It was as if on the runways or under the flashes of the cameras I was so powerful, almost invincible. I lay down on the divan, letting my hair spread over it as I crossed my legs. I faced the camera lens with an intense and serious gaze. Lauren watched me minutely, while time or another tried to look away.

"We've got all we need, you can put on the next lingerie. These photos look amazing!" Charlie, the photographer, exclaimed cheerfully.

"Can I see?" Lauren asked.

"Of course, dear."

I approached both of them while Charlie showed the pictures on the screen of the professional camera in his hands. We stayed for a few minutes analyzing the photos, and they were really good.

"Always perfect, Karla." I heard a familiar voice and turned around.

"Martha!" I exclaimed excitedly. "I'm so glad you came." I hugged the woman affectionately.

"I wouldn't refuse your invitation."

Lauren stopped looking at the pictures and stared at me silently. Victoria's Secret's photo shoots were restricted to only employees of the brand and models, not allowing any type of visits, so there was no leaking of the photos of the new collection. But I wasn't here to fully follow the rules, especially the ones coming from Lauren.

"I thought the photo shoot was private, Ms. Cabello." I heard my ex's voice echo right behind me.

I let out a chuckle and faced her, walking away from Martha.

"Martha is my guest."

"You could have done that after the pictures, don't you think? You'd have more time then."

"It doesn't really matter, right Lauren?" Dinah approached with a soft voice tone. "Martha is a model, she knows how to behave."

"Of course, you don't need to worry." The blonde said gently. "I'm professional."

"It's nothing against you, Ms. Hunt. It's just rules." Lauren had a fake smile on her lips, almost uncomfortable.

"I don't see how Martha being here can get in the way." I retorted.

"Your attention. You could have changed clothes already, how 'bout that?!"

We stared at each other for a few seconds, almost in a murderous way. The mood in that studio got heavy, drastically. I knew that Lauren was angry at me due to what had happened between us, but I wouldn't allow her to treat one of my guests this way.

"You know what?! I'm tired of taking photos today." I said and shrugged, pulling Martha by the hand.

"What? Don't even think about it!"

"I'm tired, we can do this tomorrow." I spoke as I walked away.

"You can't do this, Karla."

"I can, and I will."

"You'd better get out of your contract if you can't be professional." Her voice cut through the room, leaving everyone silent.

I stopped walking, turning my body towards her. Everyone in there was staring at us, as if they were about to witness a battle.

"Is that what you want? That I get out of the contract?" She kept staring at me. "Answer me, Lauren."
