Chapter 37

The mysteriously eerie grin covered her painted, red lips. A lady, clad in a white, frilly dress, stepped out of one of the vehicles. The raven haired woman, whose hair was put up in a bun, looked no less than in her late thirties, yet her youthful face seemed to be indicating towards a younger age. An even whiter overcoat covered her shoulders. And soon she walked closer to Alana and the others with her white heel-boots guiding her feet. A transparent, small, circular shelter floated wherever she went, thus preventing the rain from drenching her. Without the smile leaving her face, the lady stretched her full-length gloved hand forward, in hopes of shaking hands with Alana. Not so surprisingly, similar to the rest of her attire, the gloves were white as well. This lady appeared to have a great liking for the colour white.

"The name's—"

It took a fragment of second, for the unexpected event to take place. The cut-off tail of the now deceased Devil Class Dragonesian flew in the direction of the lady. Particularly towards her neck, to slit it in half. However, her reflexes were much faster. With her ever so smiling face, she sliced the tail into two halves with a sword.

The ironic thing was that, the lady was not holding a sword before, when she had approached Alana. It was a white purse that was in her grasp, which had in an instant, transformed into an enchanting sword.

When her work was finished, quite casually, she wiped off the midnight blue blood that had previously splattered onto her face. Well, not after she had changed the sword back to her purse.

"Please pardon the unexpected intrusion, although it was none of our fault," the lady laughed, but they didn't.

"It is a pleasure to find more humans," the lady continued whatsoever, her eyes glancing at each one of them with intrigue, "The name's Luxuria Demi. And I am the leader of our revolutionary organization, Bronte. We are looking for humans who would be able to help us in putting a stop to The Takeover, the first stage of The Insurrection."

"How do you know about—the Insurrection and Takeover?" Lucian asked at once, suspicion, and confusion both creating a nest inside his mind, akin to his friends.

"What is there not to know about?" the lady questioned, or rather stated, with her grin on display.

"Well—" Alana put a hand on Lucian's shoulder to forbid him from speaking further. The boy clearly seemed to be wanting to inquire more. And although they were humans, in these times, no one could be trusted. Hence, it was better to keep things short.

Had the members of the Bronte organization approached the past Alana, when she and Leon were still trying to keep up with one another, the girl would have left the Dragonesian boy instantaneously. But now things were different. Now Alana was different. All these weeks that she had spent with Leon, Lena, Lucian, Cynthia and Cora, it made her feel emotions she never felt before, but deep down yearned for. She learnt that just how not all Dragonesians were evil, similarly, not all humans were kind. There was good and evil in everyone, even in her own self, and the girl had already crossed the stage of realization.

"It is a surprise to know more humans have information about the Insurrection and Takeover," Alana answered, moving Luxuria's attention to the girl now, "We are thankful for the help, but we are in a bit of hurry."

Alana glanced back at Lena and Cynthia, who were now supporting the unconscious Leon with their arms. The two girls were exhausted but it was bearable, as they made the Dragonesian rest on their shoulders.

A man with a trimmed beard, and hair till his shoulder, got down from his vehicle. He was wearing a brown overcoat, beneath which were layers of clothing (Alana and her friends were shivering). With his giant boots thumping on the ground and a similar, partially invisible shelter above his head, he reached Luxuria. The lady being shorter than him, the man had to crouch down a bit. And then, he whispered certain words into her ear.

Whispered would be an overstatement. Alana and Lucian, who were at the front, were able to hear everything clearly.

"Miss Demi, the boy we have saved is alive, it seems. However, he is...a Dragonesian."

The thing that Alana was most fearing had dawned upon them. They were too tuckered to go through another series of action and violence. Especially when Leon needed immediate medical attention.

To their utmost surprise, Luxuria simply replied with, "I see."

Her serpent gaze once again fell upon the young humans in front of her. The smile which had momentarily faded upon hearing the news of a Dragonesian, returned.

Luxuria Demi was a cunning woman, there was no doubt in that.

"We should probably leave," Lena muttered to both Alana and Lucian, "They seem displeased to have saved a Dragonesian."

As Alana nodded and went ahead to announce about their dispersal, Luxuria decided to speak up first.

"It would be appreciated if you all could join Bronte. We are in search of humans, as I have mentioned before, and help is something we require. Of course, we will not force you. Nevertheless, I can assure you that if you all join Bronte, full responsibility for your welfare will be taken by the organization. You will be provided with free shelter, food, water, and even protection."

Alana glanced at Lucian and the others. Hesitancy was clearly written on their faces. And then her gaze went to Leon, who looked as if he had gotten rid of his unconscious state and was now in a state of half awake and half dreamland.

"We'll pass—" Lucian began, sensing the synonymous hesitancy in everyone.

"We will give a place for your Dragonesian friend, as well, in our organization."

Being quite startled and desperate at the same time, Alana blurted out, "Would you give him medical attention?"

Luxuria's smile deepened, "Yes, we will. So, shall I take that as a yes?"

"Are you sure about this?" Cynthia voiced out her thoughts to Alana and Lucian.

Meanwhile, Lena said, "Let's first treat Leon. We will think about the proposal later. We also need some time to think over the matter and discuss it when he is present," Alana made sure to deliberately avoid saying Leon's name.

The others nodded in agreement before Alana stated, "We would first like our Dragonesian friend to get treatment. Then, after he wakes up, we will let you know our final answer. Would that be alright?"

"That would be more than fine," Luxuria's eyes crinkled inexplicably, "Let us escort you to Bronte now."

The journey to Bronte was fairly easy. Well, easy for the individuals who knew the path to this hidden, human revolutionary organization.

Luxuria had gladly offered three, relatively larger vehicles to take the six of them to their destination. Alana and Lena shared one vehicle, Cora and Cynthia another. Meanwhile, Lucian insisted on travelling in the vehicle which was taking Leon's half induced state to Bronte. The boy seemed to have grown a kind of fondness towards the crimson eyed Dragonesian. To him, Leon was the friend he never had. Of course, Lena had always been his friend and now Alana, Cynthia and even little Cora were included. But with someone with whom he could have the usual boy talk, somewhere was lacking in his life. And Leon heavily fulfilled that particular area. Hence, the natural protectiveness for the unconscious Dragonesian was expected.

Alana had thought that they would travel through the Main City, but of course, it would be quite dangerous because of the transparent glasses of the vehicles. Seeing swarms of humans in Dragonesian vehicles, and possibly catching a glimpse of an unconscious Dragonesian would nothing but evoke commotion in the Dragonesian filled city. Thence, they found themselves travelling through the thick forests.

The torrential rain had now reduced back to drizzles as tiny droplets slithered down the glass of the aerial vehicles.

Although they could not feel the wet beauty of the nature on their skins, the psychological sensation was evident. A smile formed on Alana's lips as she watched the leaves rustle when droplets of the rain fell upon the green surfaces. The dark clouds were dispersing, and the clear blue sky took the chance of peeking through. A serene silence fell over the place.

After continuous struggles in the hopes of surviving and keeping others alive, Alana found her mind at peace. Actually, they all did. Humans, Drirens, Dragonesians, it was as if the entire universe had decided to make their lives a living hell. But through time and time, as their bond grew firmer, they grew stronger too.

"Look over there." Alana came out of her deep thoughts at the nudge of Lena. With awe written on her face, the blonde girl was pointing at something.

All the vehicles moved inside a huge waterfall and to God knows where. The high buildings of the Main City, which were a few miles away, were visible from there.

However, the shocking part was something else. As per Lena, the vehicles had first arrived in front of a rocky cliff with nowhere to go. It was a dead end. Until, the man who had informed about Leon being a Dragonesian to Luxuria, drove his vehicle towards the cliff and within moments, the waterfall appeared out of nowhere. Due to Lena and Alana's vehicle being in the far back, it was hard for them to view what exactly the man had done to bring the waterfall down.

Alana did curse herself in mind for being distracted and missing the chance of witnessing something extraordinary.

As all the vehicles rushed through the waterfall and into and out of a cave, Lena, Alana, Lucian, Cora and Cynthia, found themselves being taken towards a huge establishment. With a phenomenal infrastructure, the edifice stood tall and proud, with several small buildings gathered around it. The rain had now stopped its pouring session, and rays of sunlight fell upon the glassy windows of the entire property. The board where Bronte was engraved in big, bold letters, shone brightly.

They could still view the buildings of the Main City. But, the organization was located in such a strategic angle, that it was invisible to anyone and everyone, if they wanted to view the entire plot, from the Main City (even if they were on the rooftops).

As the vehicles landed swiftly in front of the organization, Alana and Lena stepped down from their one, and rejoined with Cynthia, Cora and Lucian.

"Leon has been taken away for medical treatment," Lucian informed when he found Alana's gaze looking for Leon.

The girl nodded understandingly before looking over at the organization, which was now hustling and bustling with humans everywhere.

They had finally arrived at Bronte.
