Margot
Dr. Goodwin's words reverberated in my head as I was sitting in his office, struggling with emotions running inside of me. "Kev's return has been a reason for your nightmares he is the reason for your inner turmoil. When he left the Glisten ten years ago, a void has been created in your life. Now he comes back unannounced, and you both interact with each other daily like you both used to do before he left. This makes you realize how much you missed him in these years."
I raised my hand in the air and asked in frustration. "What should I do to stop my nightmares?"
Dr. Goodwin cleared his throat and looked at me thoughtfully. He asked in a soft but questioning voice, "Why don't you talk to him?"
I laughed out loud in my heart but managed to stay calm and respond. "We don't talk."
In my head a voice echoed Yeah, we often do sex
Dr. Goodwin asked. "But both of you work at the same place. Right?"
I didn't know how to tell Dr. Goodwin that Kev is ignoring me since our last heated encounter, so I started look around and when I didn't find anything to lie to him. I closed my eyes and whined. "I am not sure, but I think I like him."
Dr. Goodwin raised an eyelid and looked like he was thinking. He asked in a slightly careful yet interested way, "Do you think that he liked you too?"
A frustration coursed through me, I responded "It has always been impossible for me to read his freaking rigid face, his poker expressions very difficult for me to understand."
Dr. Goodwin in his soft tone. "There is a possibility that you are the reason he has never been in a serious relationship with anyone."
I started feeling a volcano erupted inside me and I took a deep breath to control my inner destruction.
"It doesn't matter if he is single or not because he dated different girls at different seasons of the year," There was a noticeable anger in my tone.
Dr. Goodwin said in a soft but observant voice, "You also have never been in a serious relationship with anyone."
As the session progressed, my mind wandered to Kev had mentioned Phil in one of our encounters. It struck me now how Kev had gotten to know about Phil because when I was with Phil, Kev had not been in Glisten. It was a thought that had never occurred to me.
As soon as the session was over, I quietly collected my things and walked outside, my thoughts weighing heavily on me. I was driving away when I got lost in a storm of mixed feelings and didn't know what to do next.
I had a lot of doubts in my mind as I thought about the idea of calling Kev. Would he even answer? And even if he did, how could I bring up Phil without starting a new argument? Even though calling him seemed daunting, also the thought of missing out on the chance ate away at me.
I finally got up the nerve to call him, but the phone went straight to voicemail. I hung up the phone because I felt bad inside and knew I didn't have anything to say or a way to answer the questions that were bothering me.
When I got home, I took a long, hot shower to feel better because I felt beaten. As I came out, feeling better but still having trouble, I saw that my phone was flashing with a missed call from Kev. Even though I felt a rush of hope, I knew that reaching out again would only make me feel even more desperate.
Setting an alarm for the morning and putting my phone under my pillow, I hoped that sleep would help me feel better. I took my medicine and went to bed. As I fell asleep, the weight of doubt hung over me like a heavy blanket.
The next day while having dinner at Aurora, she put her fork and knife on a plate and looked at me. "I thought you guys were starting to make progress but now I am curious why the fuck he is ghosting you?"
I took a bite of my steak and shrugged to hide how much my heart hurt. "I don't know, Aurora," I said with a sigh in my voice. "Maybe it's just that we thought things were getting better, but maybe not for him. Maybe he left Glisten again. Not a huge deal."
As I finished speaking, a wave of sadness went through me. Even though I hadn't told Aurora about our sex adventures, the thought of Kev leaving Glisten gave me chills and made me miss the space he had left behind.
Aurora stopped in the middle of her sentence "there are lots of Maybe..." as I heard someone called her name and greeted her. "Aurora, Hello."
I looked up and find a mystery guy standing at our table and looking at Aurora with sparkles in his eyes. Aurora blew her nose and nodded. she was flicking her head between me and the mystery guy.
I smirked. "Should I introduce myself or you are going to?"
Aurora smiled and shook her head. "Ivan this Margot, my best friend and Margot this Ivan."
We exchanged handshakes, and then I couldn't help but inquire, "Ivan who?"
Aurora looked a bit shocked to see him, but she cleared her throat and managed to compose herself. "We met at Galaxy,"
I wasn't convinced by this brief response, so I became Nancy Drew and shot another question. "You met with Ivan in Galaxy, but I failed to catch when?"
When Aurora didn't respond, Ivan looked at her and Aurora stammered. "I.... I think in....... in our last girl's night."
I smirked and looked at Ivan because I had never seen Aurora this confused. "So, Ivan, you have come to check Aurora, or you have been invited,"
Ivan opened his mouth, but I raised my finger to continue " Or are you following us?"
Ivan chuckled. "None."
I squinted so he added. "Aurora told me about her restaurant so I decided to check the food."
I chin up. "So, you haven't come to meet Aurora?"
Ivan tucked his hands in his pants pockets. "Depends on if she wants to meet me or she is busy."
I raised my brow. "What if she is busy?"
I looked into Aurora's eyes. "I'll wait for her."
When I saw the blush on my best friend's face, I facepalmed and stood up.
Aura asked me. "What happened?"
I looked at the time and pretended to be late to reach somewhere. I saw Ivan's face lit up when I announced my exit. I pointed at him. "Today, I have to go so don't make this habit of crashing our dinner."
Ivan waved at me. "Thanks, and if I had known before meeting Aurora, I had to make an appointment with her friend, I would have."
I giggled and walked out of the restaurant. Sent Aurora a message. "I should have understood the reason for your sparkly eyes today," I typed and cursed myself for being so engulfed in my thoughts that I failed to see my best friend's glow and happiness.
The next day Kev wasn't there weighed heavily on me as I sat in my office. Even though it had been a week since he left Glisten, the pain of his leaving lingered, telling me of the feelings I still had that I hadn't dealt with. As the magazine's release date got near, the stress of having to meet the targets made me feel even more stressed, and I couldn't concentrate.
I made my way out of the office, hoping to clear my head with some fresh air. I bumped into someone and while apologizing I realized it was Aspin.
Wearing a smile on her face she asked me. "How are you, Margot?"
I felt happy to see the happiness on her face because last I recalled her face was full of worry. "I am fine, someone is smiling today, I guess you like the office."
Aspin nodded and her smile reached ear to ear. "I love the office and job."
As I was about to walk away Aspin hesitantly offered me. "Do you mind having lunch with me?"
I smiled and asked. "How about the cafe where we met because I love their coffee?"
Aspin smiled. "This will be a treat from my side, so you decide the place."
We discussed about Aspin's tech skills while waiting for our food.
My curiosity still stands. "Is it true that you can hack everything like phone, laptop?"
Aspin said, "Yes, exactly like that," with a snap of her fingers.
Her self-assurance interested me, and I wondered where she got her skills. Was she not aware of the legal repercussions of her skills, or did they not bother her? I wasn't aware I was looking until Aspin stopped biting in the middle of her sentence and looked at me.
As she spoke, her interest was clear: "So, who is this person whose phone, laptop, or anything else I am going to hack?"
Surprisingly, I quickly said, "Oh no, that's not what I meant at all."
Not giving up, Aspin joked, "If you want me to do it, all I need is my laptop and a few minutes. But this offer is only good for one time," and she winked to emphasize her point.
After the lunch we made our way back to the office, I was taken aback as I spotted Kev exiting his car, a wave directed toward a girl inside catching my attention. However, he seemed oblivious to my presence across the street. Aspin nudged me to get me out of my trance when I shook my head, she pointed at Kev. "If you want me to hack his phone or laptop so trust me, I only need to be around him for five minutes."
I pressed my lips for a while because I didn't know how to tell her that she was talking about her ultimate boss. Aspin asked. "He is the one. Right?"
I asked her with a smile on my face. "Do you know who is he?"
Aspin casually shot up her shoulders. "I only know one thing that he is fucking damn handsome."
I giggled. "He is Kev Moller, the only son of Dane Moller. In short, the boss of Moller Holdings."
Aspin's expressions changed from being smart ass to a pang of guilt all over her.
"Please don't tell him I said something about hacking his phone; I could lose my job if you say so," she pleaded earnestly.
Assuring her with a gesture of sealing my lips, I nodded in agreement as we entered the building.
