Kev
I was sitting with my dad in his home office. I had no idea how to express my concern. I was having difficulty finding the right words to prove my point.
Dad looked at me with confusion in his eyes. "What is the problem with going to the event?"
I shook my head. "I have no problem at all, but Dad, my main reason for returning to Glisten is to gain a firm grip over the business. Therefore, I believe that going out of town for three consecutive days would be a waste of time. I don't want to go."
Dad smiled. "I understand Kev, but it's high time to show the world that Moller Holdings now belongs to my son. Additionally, we must demonstrate our commitment to philanthropy. When Kev Moller appears, everyone will see our contribution, but if any other employee makes the same contribution, it will go unnoticed."
appreciate your dedication, son but this is not just an event; it's an opportunity to show the business community that Moller Holdings now belongs to my son, The Kev Moller. Also, I want you to represent the company to show our commitment to philanthropy around the world."
I sighed. "But why only me and Margot? You can either send her or me."
Dad narrowed his brows. Oh, damn, this is not good. So, I added my casual tone. "Dad, it's not necessary to send both. She is busy revamping her magazine and I am busy honing my skills, so..." I left my sentence incomplete and shot up my shoulders.
Dad leaned back in his chair. "Listen, son, when Andrew died, I took the responsibility of Blake and Margot by myself. No one has forced me to do it but Andrew and Lily were more like my family so I can't send Margot alone out of town. I trust you the most in this world, so I am sending you with Margot."
I had a mixture of emotions, from happiness to pride to guilt. "Alright, Dad, I will go if that makes you happy and put you in peace."
After talking to Dad for two days, I continued my search for a compelling reason to skip the South Shore event, one that would also feel like a genuine excuse to Dad. Margot and I hadn't talked for two days, even though we avoided each other, but I kept checking up on her to see when she was leaving for home and where she was going. While staring at my screen, I couldn't help but think about the outcomes if Margot and I went to the event together. There would only be one outcome: we would end up fighting. Renna has also ghosted me since she came to Glisten; her new living-alone mantra is really annoying me. When my phone started to ring, I jolted back to reality. I looked at my screen Sawyer's name flashing. I smiled and shook my head. "I guess dad told you."
Sawyers laughed. "Yeah, news travel fast nowadays. But guess what?"
I sighed. "I am not in a position to guess anything correctly."
Sawyer's voice change form happy to concern. "Is everything alright?"
I opened my mouth but shut it back as he has stated my problem by himself. "Don't tell me you got into fight with Margot again."
I sighed. "Really, I am this transparent? how am I going to be a successful businessman with this attitude? "
Sawyer laughed. "I know how to see people through. But are you going to tell me about it, or should I go for the guess option?"
I responded immediately, "Margot wanted to know the reason why I left Glisten, and I am not ready to talk about it specifically with her."
Sawyer sighed. "Well, this is serious."
I continued, "Not only that, but Dad also wants me and Margot to attend the event together. I mean, how could we be together at an event when we just fought two days ago and haven't even talked since then?"
Sawyer said, "Kev, I think Margot has every right to know why you left Glisten. Also, if the universe is giving you a chance to show her what she means to you, why are you hesitating to use that chance?"
I was confused. "What chance?"
Sawyer poured sense into me. "Come to the south shore, and after the event, show her the beach house that you bought for her. Tell her how much you love her since you were fifteen."
I responded, "But we just fought two days ago, and she's not willing to talk."
Sawyer asked, "Did you try to talk to her?"
I opened my mouth to respond but couldn't utter a word, and upon my silence, Sawyer continued, "Your sealed lips are telling me the truth. Anyway, I think you should tell her what you have been carrying in your heart for years."
I closed my eyes and realized what Sawyer was telling me to do. "I know it's time for me to face the music of life."
Sawyer finally revealed what he has been asking me to guess. "Also, the event will be at my hotel. So, you are staying here, and this is not up for discussion."
I chuckled. "I was going to stay anyway at your hotel but now that you are insisting, I want VIP services."
Sawyer laughed. "Yeah, sure fucker. Why not?" Then we ended the call.
After the call, I give some thoughts about what Sawyer has suggested, and I think he is right; it is high time to confess my feelings for her that I have been buried inside me. I don't know what Margot will do with my heart when I lay it on a silver platter in front of her.
I picked up my phone and thought to dial Margot, as due to our recent argument, the conversation wouldn't be easy, but I had to face her anyway. I know I have been a dick to her, but she won't dismiss me after I express the true feelings that I have been holding for her.
I dialed Margot. On each ring, my heart is sinking and when she picked up, I was taken aback because I was sure she wouldn't pick up my call. I started my conversation by calling her name. "Mar........"
Before I could say anything, she responded. "What is it, Kev?"
I cleared my throat. "There is something I want to tell you."
Margot hit me directly. "If it is about pinning the subject and waiting, don't bother..."
I didn't let her complete the sentence. "I understand your tone not-in-a-mood-to-talk, but I just want your one minute."
Margot grunted. "Your one starts now."
I was taken aback but I started with stammering, but I finally asked what I aimed. "Nothing is normal between us and trust me I know it's all my fault. Now I decided to fix our friendship or relationship." I paused for a few seconds and closed my eyes "Mar, can we please go to South Shore in my car?"
Margot sighed. "I am blank right now, Kev. I have no idea what I should do and what I shouldn't."
I responded in my firm voice because I know this time I'll make this work. "Don't think about anything just say yes and I promise you won't regret it. and if I'd do anything you wouldn't like you can punch me right in my nose."
Margot chuckled. "Kev, I really want to go with you, but the way you want to proceed with whatever we have between us, I don't think I am up for it."
I'm not sure whether I should be relieved that Margot became aware of the fact that there is something between us or whether I should be concerned that she is still unable to understand how much she means to me. Suddenly, her voice broke the silence and brought me back to my chaotic life situation. "Are you there?"
I stammered because I wasn't sure if she was saying anything, but I also didn't want to tell her that I wasn't paying attention. "Yeah, I am listening."
Margot asked. "Do you understand what I am saying?"
I repeated because she didn't notice I was absent-minded. "Mar, let's go on a trip and I promise you won't regret it."
Margot hesitantly asked. "Are you sure Kev, what you are offering is something you can do?" Margot hesitantly asked.
I suppressed my inner outburst and made an effort to converse with her in a lively manner. "Of course, we'll do everything you want, and I'll answer your every question and concern."
Margot is starting to show her concerns. "What if we ended up in a heated argument again, and it turns into a nasty fight?"
I took a deep breath. "I promise you, Mar, this time things will not get worse. Also, we'll talk until things resolve. No one will walk away this time. If you attempt to flee, I will intervene, and if I attempt to do the same, you will intervene. Right?"
Margot, after a few moments of silence, "Alright lets give it a try."
I sighed in relief after the call. I was determined not to waste this second chance to be with her after years. I promised to make the most of this opportunity. My heart was full of hope and determination for reconciliation.
