Jimin laid on his back on the dance studio floor, staring up at the white puckered ceiling tiles and florescent lights above him. The steady pounding of his heart was the only thing keeping him grounded as his eyes showed spiraled stars on the ceiling. He had only been in the army for a short while and thought that after a few practices, he'd be right back into the swing of things. Instead, it was proving to be a difficult feat keeping his mind wrapped around the choreo that accompanied the songs on their comeback album.
The tell tale squeal of the practice room door followed by the squeak of sneakers alerted Jimin to someone else's presence, but he didn't even have the energy in him to sit up to see who it was.
"Are you glued to the floor or something?" came Taehyung's voice.
"Maybe a bit by my own sweat."
Jimin turned his head to the side to watch as Taehyung went from sitting beside him to lying down beside him.
"What's going on?" Taehyung asked. "You're acting funny."
"Funny? I thought I was acting tired," Jimin said as he rolled his head back to face the ceiling above them.
All those dreams he had once had while lying on his back under a star stitched sky of being where he was were now replaced by reality. In many ways, he felt so out of it that it felt like he was back at square one.
"You know it's okay that you're a little rusty," Taehyung said. "Heck, we all are, but you know ARMY is going to be understanding."
"I know," Jimin said, "but I also know they have been waiting for this comeback since before we all left. There's just so much pressure there...I don't want to disappoint them."
"Don't let the fear of disappointment cause you to lay all sweaty on the practice room floor," Taehyung quipped in a lame attempt at a joke, causing a flicker of a smirk to cross Jimin's lips.
"Wise words, Tae," Jimin responded before his eyes focused on a necklace suddenly being dangled in front of his face. "What's this?"
"It's a gift for you," Taehyung said. "I found it at a pawn shop when I was out the other day and thought you might like it."
Reaching up a hand, Jimin grasped the necklace before studying it more closely. The purple heart charm in the center reminded Jimin of his love for ARMY. He couldn't help it. Taking a deep breath to collect himself, he hid the necklace in the palm of his hand as he turned his head to look at Taehyung again.
"Thank you," he said as Taehyung just nodded.
"Now, get some rest. Yeah? Tomorrow is a big day."
Jimin sat up, nodding his head as he watched Taehyung get up and exit the practice room, leaving him alone once more. After a few more minutes of lying there, Jimin managed to get enough energy to stand up and go home for the day. All he wanted was a nice hot shower and some sleep. When he got home, he forced himself to do just that before ending up on his back once more in bed. The necklace that Taehyung had given him earlier during practice was around his neck. Picking up the heart charm, he watched it glitter in the moonlight coming in through the curtain.
"I know the concert's tomorrow," Jimin said to the charm, "I just wish that I could spend a little bit of time doing something besides stressing before the performance."
Jimin managed to fall to sleep shortly after making that wish, not witnessing the purple heart charm on the necklace start to glow.
