Noah instantly stops spinning. "Sara." He breathes out quietly.
Shit. I'm still in the air. Fucking put me the fuck down.
I slip down from Noah's shoulder. His hands are placed on opposite sides of my hips helping me be more or less, steady. I watched Sara's eye's follow his hands while I wobbled touching the ground from spinning. I tucked my hair around my ears and softly took his hands off my hips.
"Hi Sara." I felt off. Like her catching me hanging out with Noah was a crime. Even though she had just come from Ethan's. Her boyfriend.
Sara wasn't smiling how she usually does. "You went to the party." It sounded more like a statement than a question.
"Yeah." I tried to pep up my voice. "Noah offered to walk me home." I glanced at him.
The moment held of silence. "I'm going to head up." And the smile was back. She looked at me like she wanted me to come up with her.
"I'll be right up." I nodded. She smiled tightly skipping up the steps.
I looked to Noah I followed his eyes seeing him watch Sara disappear into the building.
"You're going to be okay?" I nudged him bringing him back to reality. His eyes snapped towards me.
"Thanks Leda." He smiled placing a hand on my arm. "Night." He turned and started to walk back.
"Night." I mumbled. My feet led me up the stairs. I opened the door to see sara sitting on her bed staring at her lap, Sara fumbled with the fringe from her dress.
"Hey." I shut the door quietly. I placed my purse on the bed.
"Hey." Sara attempted her best smile. It didn't work all that well. It ended up looking sad.
I sat next to her on her bed. "I'm sorry about earlier.."
"It's fine, I have a boyfriend. Why would I care?" She gestured with her hands as she walked to the mini fridge to grab a water.
"What?" I could feel my eyebrows furrow. "I'm not apologizing for being around Noah." Now my hands were being thrown up, but in defense.
How can she be upset? Even if I was with Noah, like really with Noah. Why would she care?
"Then what are you apologizing for?"
Just change the subject Leda. "For leaving you guys today, at the coffee shop."
Sarah left the bathroom and sat on her bed. She blankly looked at me like I should continue.
"Look," I stood up and started to walk around, pace even. "I've never been good at friends, I'm pretty much socially disabled when it comes to anything."
I take a breathe finally coming up for air.
"I mean-" I started up again when Sara interrupted me.
"Leda."
"What?" I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Do you want to do something with me tomorrow night? It is a weekend."
"Oh. like what?"
"I don't know." She smiled. "Just me and you. we'll do something."
"Okay, I mean yeah. Sure." To new friends. And to trying to be a part of something.
**
The light hit my eyes through the window. I winced and felt my head ache. I moaned. I rubbed my eyes with one hand grabbing my phone with the other.
Noah (2)
was sar upset????
He must've sent that last night. I touched the screen for the next message.
Noah
Where are you?
I glanced at the top of my screen.
"Shit."
I jumped out of the covers feeling the cold air.
"Shit, shit, shit."
I ran to the bathroom and grabbed my toothbrush off the sink. toothpaste, toothpaste. Wheres my tooth paste? The mirror cabniets flew open asI searched to find it. I saw the white tube and grabbed it. I placed a glob on the brisels and stuck it in my mouth.
I rushed to my drawers. I gabbed what I saw first. Long sleeve yellow tee and the jean skirt from last night off of the carpet floor.
I ran to the sink and spit out the toothpaste. i threw my bag over my shoulder and started running through the halls to down stairs.
I looked to my phone once I was out the doors. five minutes. Come on Leda It's the first week for God sakes.
I jogged through out the people, who gave me weird looks of all kinds.
I made it up the steps and through the first line of doors. I glanced down at my untied shoe when the next door hit me in the forehead.
I held my forehead. That hangover just got a hell of a lot worse.
"What are you doing?" The voice spit. I looked past them.
"I can't fucking deal with this right now." I muttered and used the door to my right.
I started speed walking seeing the door slowly start to shut. I booked it to the door and reached to wedge my fingers between the cracks.
"Ouch. Fuck." My finger went to my mouth. I knocked quickly on the door.
I kept knocking until Professor Kawits open the door only slightly to nudge his watermelon head out.
"Yes?" He stood at least two feet under my eyes.
"I'm- I'm in your class." I tried my best 'Sara smile'. I could feel the begging in my voice.
"And?" He raised his busy caterpillar eyebrows.
"Can I attend it?" I furrowed my eyebrows at him.
"Doors are closed." He took a hand and pushed his classes up the brim of his nose
"But-"
"You're late. Doors are closed." He started to shut the door when I heard him mumble.
"Try and make room in your very busy scedule."
I stared at the door as it clicked shut. fuck
"Fuck."
I started to yell and thru my book bag against the wall.
I breathed out putting my hands above my head. I need a fucking cigarette fucking fuck. I grabbed my bag and rushed out the door.
I took my phone out of my back pocket dialing Sara. I held the phone against my ear. Voicemail.
I went by the steps and followed the concrete to the side of the school. Out of eyesight.
My papers started to crush and crumple as I looked for the box. I have the lighter from last night in my front pocket. I spy the red box and take it out of the zipper it was sitting in. I let my backpack fall. I hoist myself onto the metal railing. Cupping my hand around the cigarette, it's lit.
I inhale. Okay. Just cool okay?
"Leda?"
Levi is walking on the sidewalk stopped.
"Jesus." I mumbled. I smiled and waved him over. He starts walking towards the side of the school.
"Don't you have class?" He walks up the few steps and now he is a good feet away.
I gesture over the cigarette. His shoulders tighten and fall. His warm hand touches mine as he takes it.
Levi eyes follow down to my toes and back up. "You look hot." His tone is casual like saying the weathers cold or how he likes his coworkers.
What?
My cheeks start to heat up and I feel the corners of my mouth lift. "I wore the same thing last night."
"I was going to tell you when I walked you home." He handed it back. Levi's eyes meet mine. "I'm really sorry about that.."
I take a hit. "What?"
"Not walking you home." He stuffs his hands in the front pocket of his khakis. I glance across the lawn to the sidewalk, there's a short blonde girl yelling at a brown haired boy. She pushes his chest, but he doesn't move. I glance back at Levi.
Say something Leda.
"You don't look bad yourself."
Holy Hannah.
Levi chuckles while scratching the back of his neck.
