Memories
Kise slunk to the floor, laughing so hard his stomach hurt. He was laughing at how much of a failure he was. He had lost his best friend and confidant and girlfriend all at the same time, harming them the most just for the pure joy for that moment in time.
All along, he had been the greatest loser in this game of life.
“This is a good sign, having a broken heart. It means we have tried for something.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
" How long is she going to be unconscious?" Aomine gripped the doctor's collar roughly and raised him off the floor. The doctor panicked, flailing as he watched the sixteen year old right in front of him completely disrespect him and just pick him off the floor as if he was some speck of dust.
" Daiki, let Doctor Shizawa go." a familiar voice cut through the air like an arrow with poison and hit Aomine. Aomine growled and then released the doctor from his iron grip, turning to face the wall in defiance.
" Bloody hell! I can't do anything to save her!" Aomine thundered as his fist punched the wall, leaving broken pieces and a hand that was covered with blood and some unidentified pieces inside the open wounds.
"Calm down Daiki. Doctor Shizawa here is a specialist in neurology." a certain red head stopped in front of Aomine and stared at the panting doctor with a kind of sharpness in his eyes that knew no boundaries of power.
" What can I do Akashi? It's my fault. I should've just gone with her abroad instead of staying here. It's my fault." Aomine turned around, his hand covering his face as his tears rained down his face. He couldn't protect her well enough, and this entire episode just proved it further. Even though the entire of the Generation of Miracles were morons in their own ways, they were still united, even though scattered.
" I have arranged for Doctor Imaziya to come in. She will find out about her condition together with Doctor Shizawa her. Shintarou, bring Aomine to eat something." Akashi ordered, his face reflecting his boredom. It wasn't the first time they had been in this situation and every single time, he was the one to clear up all the dirt and mess they had created.
A flash of anger snapped across Akashi's face, and he muttered something inaudible. "Where is that troublemaker?" he sighed, almost as if he was disappointed, but the rest of the Generation of Miracles shivered. They knew that sigh. That sigh were they were abandoned, in battle and war, and left for the dead. No more excuses to cover up your mistakes. No more people to be sacrificed for your sake. You were left alone, isolated, and you would slowly, torment yourself and die.
" He's in the other ward. B-21. I heard the nurses saying that he had to get his stomach pumped just because he was too high on drugs and alcohol." Murasakibara replied mechanically, oblivious to the danger he was putting his former teammate in. After all, he was sticking his head right into the pack of sweets trying to look for his favourite flavour while munching on some weird random chilli-lemon biscuit they sold just down the road from the hospital.
" Thank you Atsushi. You should stay here to stand guard." Akashi smiled deviously, as sly as a fox, and he looked absolutely charming. However, nobody knew how much evil that he brewed underneath that facade that he had put on. He stalked away, playing with his red scissors in hand as a small twisted grin played on his face.
The punishment had just begun.

" En..." she groaned as she stirred, her senses slowly adjusting to the sharp bright white light and the smell of fresh linen and sanitised equipment. She felt almost empty, as if her life had been drained from her. There was that feeling of loneliness that seeped through her bones and entrapped her from within, that soft and subtle feeling of coldness that penetrated her very soul.
" Wha.. " Aomine stirred from his sleep, and upon seeing her awake, jolted to life as his solemn face quickly painted on a smile that covered up his fatigue. " You're awake! I thought I lost you! You don't know how worried I was." Aomine rambled on, but stopped as soon as he saw her smile weakly at him, her soft callaused hand touching his face with a gentleness that tickled his heart.
" I'm fine." She spoke, so softly and gently Aomine thought she had changed into a person he didn't know anymore. She seemed so abnormally calm, unlike her previous nature where she would lean on him and cry on his shoulders to flush all that pain from her system. Of course, he was worried about her, but he didn't want to show it so obviously. After all, he wasn't sure whether she saw him beyond the bourdaries of being friends.
" Get some rest. I'll get the doctor." Aomine whispered, barely able to contain himself as he stumbled out of the hospital room. It was a mix of excitement and sadness, the conflicting feelings stirring up such chaos in him. Maybe it was the fact that he knew that he would never have a place in her heart, the same kind of place that Kise held in hers for so many years even after what Kise had done to her.
Just as she watched the door slide to close, her heart felt a tinge of pain. The soliditary figure that seemed to stand there beside her whenever she was in trouble. The person to take away all of her sorrows while he hid his own from her, burying it deep within his heart even though it hurt him so much.
" I'm sorry." a voice interrupted her trail of thoughts and she snapped back to reality, her eyes gliding over the person standing right in front of her. He was in hospital wear too. The weary look on his face that made her heart weep, the bandage around his neck that was slightly red.
He wasn't the model that she knew. In her eyes, he seemed like anyone else, and yet, so different in the same way.
" What happened to your neck?" she asked plainly, her face void of emotion.
Kise smiled as his hand subconsciously reached to touch his neck and cover it. He was finally beginning to understand the extent of her pain that year. When Akashi had come into his hospital room, he instantly knew that it was his death. And yet, Akashi had still managed to control his anger and leave him alive, with only a small wound around the neck as a reminder of the fraction of all the harm he had caused to her.
" Just cut it accidentally. I'm here to apologise. For everything." Kise said, as he dropped to his knees beside her bed. His hand held hers, its icy cold feeling penetrating through the shields of her locked heart. She wanted to know how it felt for him, but the words couldn't leave her mouth.
" It's passed." she said coldly, her eyes like a pond void of life, emotionless, even though she knew that whatever she said only caused her to have more wounds on her heart. Kise's headjolted up to look at her and she met with his eyes. He could see how they were so still, as if they had no soul, unlike the ones he had once been so enchanted by when he had first met her.
He realised, that he was the only one that had hurt her the most.
