chapter 9

Alex walked over to them, her hands on her hips as she updated them on her and Sara's search of the northwest corner of the building. "There's no sign of the Prism."

"Well, it's got to be here somewhere."

Callie noticed the approaching hostiles just as Sara extended her bo staff, the two easily falling into their offensive stances as they alerted the rest of the team to the approaching threat.

"We got incoming."

Callie ducked under the arm of one of the masked Nazi soldiers as she slammed her leg into the chest of another one that was approaching towards her. Spinning around, she slammed the hilt of her crossbow into the head of the first soldier and fired an arrow into the leg of the second.

Arms wrapped around her shoulders from behind, holding her arms back while she struggled to break free. Taking a deep breath, the girl almost growled as she used her body weight to film the soldier over her shoulder and slam him head-first on to the concrete ground that they were all fighting on.

"I see Their Flash, their Supergirl!" Alex yelled across to them as she fired her gun at another solider. Callie moved towards Oliver, pulling one of the Nazi's off the man as he fired his arrow over her shoulder and into one that had been approaching her back.

They shared a quick nod as Oliver shouted back to Alex. "Yeah, I see them."

"Where's their Arrow?" Barry asked, not being able to wait for an answer as he took back off after Thawne. The colourful lightning flashes provided the room with light - along with Firestorm's blasts of fire and Kara's laser streams from her eyes.

Before Callie could even begin to form an answer, she barely had time to process Overgirl landing beside her and Oliver. The evil-Kryptonian slammed her fists into their chests and watched as the duo went flying across the room.

Callie crashed against one of the pillars in the room, groaning as she definitely felt her hand crack as it smacked the wall. Reeling from the collision, the girl struggled to even sit up as she cradled her hand in her un-armed one. Looking down at the limb, she was relived to find that it didn't appear to be broken - probably only fractured. She could work with a fracture for the time being.

Looking over with blurred eyes as she tried to readjust, she noticed that Oliver had landed amongst a stack of boxes. Callie almost had to suppress an eye roll as she noticed that he obviously would have had the nicer landing than her - that just seemed to be the fate that she was stuck with.

Reaching to grab her crossbow from where it was laying beside her, Callie could see in the distance that Overgirl currently had her hand wrapped around Sara's throat, pushing her up into the air against a pillar similar to the one that she had crashed into. While Callie couldn't see the evil version of Kara's face, the masked figure was facing her directly with one hand on her hip and Callie knew that she was trying to send a message to the Merlyn.

Just as Callie went to fire the arrow that she was setting up, a green tipped arrow whizzed right by her and straight towards Overgirl. Holding her breath slightly, Callie felt her hope instantly crumble as the powered villain snatched it right out of the air before it touched her.

Dropping Sara to the ground, she turned to face Oliver with the arrow still grasped in her palm. Tilting her head almost mockingly she brought it down with force and snapped the Kryptonite arrow roughly in her hands. Callie went to shout out to Oliver but it was too late. The woman flew towards the man and they began to fight back.

Groaning, Callie flinched slightly as a hand appeared in front of her. Looking up as she accepted the hand up she felt momentary relief as Sara softly smiled back at her. They both quickly checked each other over for injuries as they regrouped with the others, the Nazi's seemingly all being stopped and Thawne and Overgirl temporarily down.

Just as Callie went to hug Oliver, she heard Sara speak up. "What the hell is that?"

Callie soon around to see what they were looking at and instantly she knew this was a fight they might not have any chance left of winning. The metal skeleton was glowing green and she knew exactly who this was from her previous years with the Earth-X villians.

"Metallo."

Callie yelped as a sudden flash smacked her off her feet, causing the girl to fall on to her back as Thawne swiped out the rest of the team. Kara was sent flying backwards with a sudden beam of green energy from Metallo and Callie began to feel extreme dread set in. She knew what was going to happen to their team - she knew why they needed Kara.

Sitting up, Callie let out a loud yell as she watched Sara and Oliver both be hit with a stream of the Kryptonite energy from Metallo's chest. Jumping to her feet, the girl moved around the unconscious bodies of the rest of the team and lunged for Overgirl, the head of the kryptonite arrow in her hand.

Her effort was useless. An arrow suddenly sped towards her and hit her leg, causing the girl to stumble to the ground as she yelled out in pain. Ignoring Thawne moving all of the bodies of her friends to the middle of the room, Callie reached down to try and pull out the arrow that was in her body.

"I wouldn't do that," A gruff voice called out to her as heavy footsteps came to a halt in front of her. Looking up, she noticed that the Earth-X version of Oliver had appeared and with his bow resting in his hands she knew it was him that had shot at her. "You'll end up bleeding out right here on this cold ground, alone and with no idea what is going to happen to your friends."

While not wanting to listen to him, she knew that he actually did have a point albeit it sick and twisted. She went to make a sarcastic comment but was immediately silenced by Thawne stamping on her chest and pressing his boot into her throat while she gasped for breath. Clawing at his boot with her hands, she watched as the Evil Kara also peered down on her.

"For you," Kara said as Callie groaned, the three standing above her and looking down at her. Thawne's boot pressed harder on her throat causing her to grasp at it, her breathing becoming harder every second that he kept it there. "We had a back up plan."

The Earth-X Oliver held up a small device that Thawne had passed to him, a red bird standing out against the rest of the black on it. He smirked as his finger pressed down on the switch that was attached in green on the side of the device.

"It'll take a few seconds to power up, but once it does? Every thought you have, every desire you get? It'll be just as we tell you."

Callie scoffed, knowing that she had gotten her team to remove the chip from her neck before they could have even noticed. Thawne lifted his boot, letting the air rush back into he rlungs as she gasped for breath.

"You're too late, the chip is gone," she choked out, her hand holding her neck as the oxygen rushed back into her system. Callie found herself become even more unnerved once she noticed the smug looks remained on their faces.

"Oh sweetie," Overgirl said condescendingly, "you really thought it would be that easy?"

___

As the team all came back to conciousness, they found themselves tugging at the metal shackles that restrained them. There were seemingly functional collars clasped around their necks, flashing with a blue light every now and again.

Sara and Oliver looked everyone over, both instantly noticing what else was wrong.

"Where's Callie?"

A slow clap started from behind them, drawing their attention of their current outfits and to Thawne who was standing on a podium behind them. A sick smirk was spread across his face as he laughed at all of the heroes standing like prisoners.

"Well, here we are. This is fun for me, not so much for you," he told them, turning to look directly at Barry with the widest smile possible on his lips. The Allen boy tensed with anger but it didn't seem to phase the other speedster. "All the times you've killed me, and now here all I have to do is kill you once."

"Enough, Eobard. Enough," Overgirl called out, rolling her eyes at his theatrics.

"Hey, you might want to listen to her. We know that if you wanted to kill us, you wouldn't have put these dog collars on us first," Alex told them, trying to hide the fact that she was massively scared as to what was happening. There was so little chance of them being able to escape this, and she was even more concerned that Callie was no where to be seen.

"Now I know what it feels like to hate myself," Kara mumbled.

They all watched silently as Dark Arrow appeared, placing a soft hand on his wife's shoulder as he praised her for collecting them all there. She smirked proudly, before her legs suddenly gave out. Falling to the ground the villain heaved deep breaths as she struggled with the pain that she was in.

"The pain, the pain. I don't know how much longer I can bear it."

"It's all right. It's all right. You're gonna be all right because we found her. We found her, and now we have her," Oliver said, looking briefly towards Kara before he looked back to his wife. The team all shared confused looks as they watched the scene in front of them. "I love you. Now, very soon, this nightmare will be over, and I'll take you home. So stand."

Ignoring what just happened, he turned back to face the rest of the heroes that were standing like restrained animals at a circus. Clapping his hands slightly, he scanned the line before continuing to speak.

"S.T.A.R. Labs is secure."

The whole team stiffed at that, everyone having people they cared about in the building. "If you hurt my friends..." Barry started but he was immediately cut off by Dark Arrow.

"I did hurt your friends, oh, I really enjoyed hurting your friends," he said, watching as Oliver tried to snarl and break out of the restraints to get to him. He let out an empty laugh that caused Sara to feel her blood literally chill as she remembered that they were still nowhere near discovering if Callie was okay.

"Are they alive?"

"Yes, yes, for now."

"What about Callie? Where the fuck is my fiancé?" Sara swore, not wanting to waste time with stupid pleasantries. She needed to know that Callie was okay and safe and not dead. She couldn't be separated from her again, not after everything they had been through.

"Oh, you'll see her soon. But for now, we need your Kara's cooperation."

"Well, we don't need it. It would be preferable. But for the time being, you are more valuable as leverage," Thawne joked, watching as the team in front of them hissed and tried to get free of the restrains that had been placed upon them.

"What do you want my sister for?" Alex asked, already thinking that she knew the answer.

Overgirl moved towards them, coming to stand directly in front of Kara as she decided that she would reveal why they were after her counterpart especially as she knew there was no way they could escape from them now.

"To save my life. That's your little mission statement, isn't it? Help people, save lives. Well, now's your chance."

Thawne nodded from where he stood. "The General is dying."

The team all looked at each other in shock as Alex realised that she was right. Callie's words flew back to her head as she remembered exactly what the girl had muttered to them before they head out to battle.

"Her blood. She's been exposed to too much solar radiation."

"Yes, like Icarus," the name of the myth shot a memory through everyone else's heads as they remembered Callie mentioning it too. Something started to feel wrong in Sara and Oliver's stomaches as they thought about their friend. "I flew too close to the sun."

"But we can save her. We're going to save her. All we need is a new heart and, luckily, on this planet, we found the perfect donor!"

Barry sighed as he realised what everything had bene about. This wasn't really about domination of their world like they had all thought, but rather about saving the Nazi's best and strongest General.

"That's why you stole the Prism? So you could duplicate a red sun, weaken Kara, and cut into her?" He clarified, glaring at them all as they nodded in confirmation of his conclusion.

Thawne smirked again at Barry as he spoke. "Can't make an omelet with invulnerable eggs."

Just as they watched Metallo walk back over towards them, Oliver turned to face his evil counterpart as he thought about his friends being hurt and Callie suddenly being unaccounted for.

"Hey. I'm gonna kill you."

Dark Arrow simply laughed, not even looking over his shoulder as he walked away from the man and the team that he was leaving behind.

"Nah, you won't. You're weak. And besides, all of you choose the high road. You're heroes."
