chapter 6

"Guys?" Sara whispered, causing the men to turn around. "It's true."

There was a deafly silence throughout the room before Sara finished confirming what they hadn't thought was possible.

"It's Callie. Our Callie."

"Why are they staring at her like that?" Jax asked the room as the camera flickered back to life. Everyone watched as Sara slowly turned to face the raven-haired girl, the two boys in the room both having massive grins on their faces.

"He's gone," Earth-X Oliver said as he closed his fist around the biosensor receiver that he carried around with him.

Thawne turned around to face Oliver, not a single ouch of sympathy in his body. It was their fault Merlyn had been captured, he had told them plenty of times that storming the church was not the best plan they had formed. "Who? Merlyn?"

"The biosensor in his suit indicates his heart stopped," the man told them as he let the small sensor slide back into one of the pockets on his black and red suit. Tommy had been his best friend, but there was no time to show weakness or grief.

"He always seemed kind of soft to me," Thawne muttered, trying to get a rise out of Oliver. He knew that the man was attached to the Merlyn and he really just liked to push people's buttons. While Oliver was clearly upset about his friend's death, Thawne only saw it as a positive that both of the Merlyns had been left behind on Earth-One.

"Oliver," Kara spoke gently, trying to keep him calm and collected. The man didn't turn around to face her but he knew that they both could sense the anger that was radiating off of him at the thought that his friend had been killed or forced to kill himself at the hands of their counterparts.

"He died for you and we will make his death worthwhile," Oliver monotoned, making sure that his friend wasn't going to have given up his life for nothing. He knew that they had a back-up plan waiting but it wasn't even crossing his mind at that exact second.

"That doesn't change the fact that now we're down a man!" Thawne teased, a sick smirk on his face as he prodded Oliver.

"Keep your focus where it belongs and get to work on locating that Prism!" Oliver turned, his resolve snapping as he finally had enough of the speedster who had travelled to find them and help them on their plan of attack. The man craved vengeance on the Flash, and he knew that this joint mission to take down all of the teams on that Earth was a good idea.

"Watch your tone, or I'll watch it for you," Thawne continued to tease, knowing that any second Oliver was going to properly snap and attack him.

He was right. Oliver turned to face him, pausing for a second before lunging forward and pinning him against a concrete pillar in the room. An arrow was held against his chest as Oliver held himself back from killing the man in front of him.

"Oliver!" Overgirl yelled, surprised that he was acting out all of a sudden.

"Did you just tell me to watch my tone?"

"You're angry, and I like it."

"Don't you mock me."

Thawne laughed coldly at Oliver, surprised that the man would try to go against him when he was the superpower one in this equation. "Don't threaten me, or have you forgotten?" He started, allowing his hand to begin to vibrate as he moved it towards Oliver's chest. "I can end your life before you birth your next thought."

Just as his hand moved closer, it was snatched in a vice-like grip by Overgirl. Kara was glaring intensely at him as she squeezed a little tighter on his wrist.

"Try it once I break every bone in your body."

"Ok, we're all a little emotional. Here's what I suggest. I will stop vibrating my hand; you stop breaking my wrist; and you be 10% less brooding."

Kara let go of Thawne's wrist as Oliver let the arrow in his hand drop to the floor. The three all took a small step back from each other, the tension in the air still booming.

"We accomplish nothing by arguing amongst ourselves."

"It's the accomplishing nothing that has me concerned. We came here to conquer this Earth, or have you forgotten?" Thawne reminded the two Generals, fed up of their constant arguing about what they were going to do. He knew that they had the perfect weapon on the inside, but he just needed the other two to finally be on board with the situation.

"Locate the Prism Please. Once we have identified the location of the target, I will devise a plan of attack," Oliver told the man, waiting for Thawne to speed out of the room.

There was a moment of silence as the two men stared at each other, waiting for something to happen. Thawne sighed deeply before throwing his hands in the air as he realised that if he didn't bring it up, then neither of them were going to.

"Are you forgetting our secret weapon in all of this?" He reminded them, Oliver and Kara sharing a quick glance as they tried to work out what Thawne was talking about. The man noticed their expressions and sighed as he tried to jog their memories.

"Do you remember when you first brought this Earth's version of Falke to me?" He asked, remembering the moment three years ago when the man and woman had arrived at his quarters with a knocked out Callie Merlyn in their arms. "You told me that you were going to make her the perfect soldier, make her back into the Falke that we had known and worked with."

The two nodded, unsure on where he was going with this.

"You asked me for a fail-safe, something to guarantee that she wasn't going to get up and disobey us," Thawne continued, but he was cut off by Kara as she realised what he was talking about.

"The implant."

Thawne nodded, clapping slightly as he realised that they had both remembered just what their plan originally had been. "Yes, the implant," he agreed, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small red and black device that had the bird of prey symbol that Callie was so used to seeing embedded on the front.

"Hilter won the war with his brainwashing techniques," Oliver reminded them as he took the small device from Thawne's outstretched hand. "She had already been brainwashed, and you knew that."

Thawne nodded. "Her previous brainwashing just made it easier. It was a subconscious alteration, and she didn't even realise it."

Kara nodded, understanding just how he had done it. "She's going to betray them, and they'll never see it coming."

Barry and Oliver looked between Callie and Sara as they let the news process. Both of them smiled as they realised that Callie had never really been dead - and while they had a lot of questions about that, there was something that needed to happen before everyone dived into it.

Callie wasn't sure how to feel. The last time her and Sara had been reunited, things had been a lot different. Callie hadn't been presumed dead, just brainwashed. Callie hadn't done half of the things that she had been forced to do in Earth-X. It had all been a lot more simple.

But in that moment, none of that mattered.

"You've got new scars," Sara muttered, not sure how to take this all in. Callie had been dead, she had seen her body, she had watched it get buried 6 feet under beside her sister's grave.

Callie shrugged, knowing that while it had only been 3 months on this earth, it had been 3 years for her. Time passed differently on Earth-X, and she knew it wasn't a linear progression. She rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly as she looked at Sara.

"Survival does that."

There was another moment of silence before Callie saw that Sara's exterior of holding her emotions from show was about to break. The blonde's fingers twitched at her side as if she was holding herself back from reaching out to the raven-haired girl and Callie knew why. Sara didn't really believe that this was real.

"You're alive," Sara stated, her eyes boring into Callie's as the raven haired girl stood completely still as she awaited a reaction from Sara.

"I'm alive."

"You're alive," Sara repeated, but this was different. Her whole body language had shifted into one of relief, and her face had broken into an expression of pure happiness as she let it properly sink in.

Callie laughed, both of the girls moving in unison towards each other. Their bodies crashed against each other, Sara's hands wrapping around Callie's waist as their lips touched for the first time in a while. Smirking into the kiss, Sara felt their lips grow a little moist from the tears that were streaming from both of their faces.

She would remember this moment forever, Callie decided. They had reunited once before, but this? This was something much deeper.

Sara pulled back to rest her head against Callie's as they both took deep breaths while their tears hit the floor beneath them. They were completely unaware of everything and everyone around them, Oliver and Barry watching the two embrace with massive grins spread across their faces.

Oliver make a hushing motion to everyone as the doors to the Star Labs medical room slid open and they all came piling into the large room. Felicity was at his side in an instant, Iris moving to hug Barry as they all watched the scene unfold in front of them.

Looking down at Iris who was looking at him in confusion, Barry smiled back at his almost-wife. "It's her, it's OUR Callie."

Blissfully unaware of everything else but her, Sara ran her hands through Callie's hair as she savoured the moment between them. Her hands ran smoothly along the back of her neck, a small frown on her face as she felt the raised skin of a newer scar on the base of her neck. Deciding that she would ask about it later Sara pushed it to the back of her mind.

"We saw you, we saw your body, you were dead!" Sara exclaimed, her mind still trying to wrap itself around what was going on. Callie laughed, brushing a blonde strand of hair out of her fiancé's eyes.

"It wasn't me, it was the Earth-X version of myself." She explained, having learnt about how the evil versions of her friends had managed to get away with it. She had known that her friends wouldn't be the ones to save her from that Earth and Callie had never believed that she would have had the opportunity to break free the way she had.

Sara's hand fell on a chain that rested underneath the collar of the top that Callie had been wearing under her Earth-X outfit. Looking at Callie for a second, Sara's eyes trailed down as she tugged on the chain and pulled it out from underneath her shirt. She was surprised that she had missed it when Callie was showing her the scars, but she was glad that she had found it now.

The golden chain was small, but that wasn't the important part. At the bottom of the chain rested a band of gold with three stones pressed into it. Sara recognised it instantly, and she prayed that it was what she thought it was. Moving her hand forward she pulled the band towards her as she spun it over and examined it.

'C+S'

Callie smiled warmly at Sara as she noticed that an identical ring rested on Sara's finger as she held the matching one in her palm. Dropping the chain so that the ring fell back against Callie's chest, Sara looked back up at the Merlyn with tears in her eyes.

"You kept it?"

"Sara, I told you last time we were separated," Callie spoke gently, thinking back to the last time that Sara and her had shared a dramatic reunion. "I'll always come back to you."

They kissed once more as they realised that this was really happening. Sara laughed slightly as Callie squeaked in surprise at the sudden kiss attack that she had sprung on her.

In the background, Oliver knew that the couple would have plenty of time to continue with their reunion later - but there were more pressing matters at hand. He cleared his throat, a smile on his face as his childhood friends both turned around to look at them with shared smiles.

"Now, Callie, I think we've got a long conversation to get started on."
