chapter 5

"Then you really are a special kind of idiot. Your naivete would be charming if your weakness wasn't so pathetic. Is this how it is on your planet-- everybody swayed by sentiment? Is everyone here really so weak? The Reich will change that. The weak will be eliminated. Your entire world will be enslaved, but you, you You won't be around to witness it. He is going to feel your skull crack under the weight of his boot. Everyone you care about, everyone you love, they're going to die badly In ways that would give even monsters nightmares. I really wish that I could live to see it," he told Oliver, before reaching into his mouth and pulling a fake cyanide tooth out of his mouth.

"No. T--Tommy, don't!" Oliver yelled, rushing to open the doors as Tommy started foaming at the mouth. By the time the doors had opened, the Merlyn was dead.

Oliver closed his eyes for a second. It just seemed like the Merlyn's had been doomed from the start on every Earth.

When Callie opened her eyes, she was not expecting to have been met with the barrel of a gun.

She groaned slightly, her voice coming out strange and distorted from the mask that was covering her face. Tilting her head as she attempted to look around, Callie instantly recognised her surroundings. She was in Star Labs, this was the medical room, she had been here before.

Looking to her right, she noticed Oliver leaning against the metal table beside her. Barry was standing beside him, a scowl across his face as he noticed that she had moved. Nudging Oliver, both men turned their full attention to the girl that was restrained on the table.

Stein and Caitlin had managed to stop the bleeding on her wound and had removed the arrow from her stomach to stitch it up. They needed her alive to find out who she was and what she wanted with them. Oliver was also keen to find out why she had turned against the others to help him.

Callie looked up at the gun to see who was holding it. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw her Sara for the first time in three years. All of them looked exactly like they were when she had left, making her wonder if time had passed differently for her than it had for them. The blonde was looking down at her with such hatred that Callie wondered if this was how Sara had felt when she had been brainwashed.

"Why won't your mask come off?" Oliver asked gruffly, moving to stand beside her as she struggling slightly against the restraints. His question made more sense to her as she realised why she was being restrained by them - they had no idea it was her behind the mask.

Callie paused for a second before she spoke. "There is a button behind my ear," she muttered, but the mask made her voice sound deep and intimidating. She understood why the mask was used but now it was just a waste of time for her, especially as she just wanted to be back with her friends and family.

The second Barry pressed the switch for the mask behind her ear and it disappeared, all three of the superheros let out loud gasps and moved backwards as they realised who was on the table in front of them.

"Guys?"

__

Jax watched the monitor patiently as he waited for the masked figure to wake up. He noticed Barry and Oliver talking while Sara had been holding her gun to the figure incase they were stronger than anticipated.

"It's strange, isn't it?" Iris broke the silence in the room as they all waited on Barry, Oliver and Sara to return from speaking to the mysterious Earth-Xer. "How someone can be alive on different worlds but dead here?"

A murmur of agreement spread throughout the room at the thought of different versions of themselves being placed throughout different worlds. Stein and Jax shared a look at the thought of their dead teammate being alive on a different Earth.

Jax stood up, moving away from the monitor as he went to stand besides Stein. Everyone was deep in conversation about Tommy having been alive on a different earth while Felicity was explaining more about Tommy from their earth.

"He was Oliver's best friend, and because of that Callie became a part of their group," Felicity told them, only knowing very little about the group of friends. "Laurel was good friends with Oliver and therefore ended up being friends with Tommy and Callie. That's how Sara and Callie met," she explained, trying to explain to everyone why Tommy had impacted all of their lives so massively. "It was hard for both Oliver and Sara loosing Callie but seeing Tommy isn't really helping with their grief."

As they continued to speak, Alex zoned out as she watched the monitor to see if their masked suspect had woken up yet. She watched as the figure moved their head, opening their mouth to say something before Barry reached down to take the mask off.

"She's awake! The mask is coming off!" Alex interupted, watching eagerly as she waited to see who was under the mask. "Who is that?"

She watched the reactions of the trio as they all moved backwards slightly in surprise. Everyone turned around to look at Alex as the girl turned the monitor around. Caitlin was the first to move close to the screen, a squeak falling from her lips in surprise as she realised who was under the mask.

"Oh my god," Iris said, her hand moving to cover her mouth in shock as she realised who it was. The rest of them gathered took more of an interest at seeing Caitlin and Iris both knowing who it was. Jax barged forward, his eyes widening as he looked at the screen.

"Guys?" Alex questioned, confused at why even her sister was looking shocked. "Who is it?"

Mick was the only one to be able to form the answer to her question. "That's Callie."

___

Sara turned around, not looking at Callie as Barry moved to comfort the girl. They hadn't been expecting to see their dead friend, but they knew that Earth-X Callie obviously hadn't died like theirs had. Thinking back to his conversation with Tommy, Oliver moved to stand in front of Callie very aware that she was probably playing him like Tommy had been.

"Millie? That's your name, isn't it?" Oliver said, thinking back to what Tommy had called her. Before he gave her a chance to answer, he continued. "Why did you help me? I thought compassion was weakness."

Callie felt herself overwhelmed. She hadn't realised that they would have known about Earth-X or that they would have had the chance to speak to the duplicate of her brother by now. She opened her mouth but closed it, trying to find the right words to say to prove that she wasn't from Earth-X.

"What year is it?" Callie asked, not sure what else to start with. The three all turned to look at her, anger and confusion across their faces as they thought she was trying to pull something on them.

"What, do Nazi's not have calendars?" Sara growled, her hands clenching at her sides as she glared at the person who shared the same face as the girl that she had grown to love. Callie felt her head spin slightly as she finally got to see the passion that Sara had for everything that she did - even if that passion was anger directed towards her at the moment.

"Please," Callie's voice broke slightly as she looked at them. She could tell that Barry was the only one that was considering answering her, the other two well aware of the tricks that Tommy had tried to use on them.

Barry sighed, looking at the other two before speaking. "2017."

Callie's eyes widened as she let her head fall back, hitting the hard pillow it had been resting on. She could tell that Oliver and Sara were glaring deeply at her as if she was actually from Earth-X. Looking back up, her eyes met Sara's as she thought to what she was going to say next.

"It's been, what?, three months since I died?" Callie said, not realising that Sara thought this was some sort of act.

"How do you know that?" Barry asked, suddenly becoming defensive as he watched the girl figure out when their Callie had been found dead by Oliver and the rest of team arrow. "You couldn't know that unless..." He trailed off as he came to his own conclusion.

Sara and Oliver caught on to what Barry was trying to say as he trailed off. Sara had long gotten rid of her bloodlust, and she swore at that moment it was a good thing because she was already seeing red. Lunging forward, she launched herself for the Callie that was lying in front of her with an angry yell. Oliver moved forward, grabbing Sara around the waist and holding her back from attacking Callie who was shouting out in defence.

"SHE KILLED CALLIE!" Sara yelled, struggling against Oliver's hold. Callie's eyes widened as she realised why Sara was trying to attack her - they thought that she knew her death date because she had killed her.

"I didn't kill her!" Callie yelled, causing Sara to calm down slightly as they listened to what she had to say. "I am her."

In Callie's mind, she had expected hugs, tears and welcome backs for their grand reunion. But all she got was an empty laugh from Sara, a deep glare from Barry and an angry Oliver turning around to face her with a murderuous look in his eyes.

"We know about Earth-X. You can give it up now," Barry said, no sympathy left for the girl that was on the table before them. Oliver tensed slightly as he considered having to use...different...methods to get an answer from her. Callie shook her head frantically, trying to figure out what would distinguish her from the dead Earth-X version of herself.

She knew that one of the options was to make them believe her through her words. But everyone knew that Callie loved Sara, everyone knew about their past, everyone knew that they were going to get married - it was public knowledge. No, she needed something that only Sara would know.

____

"Where's this one from?" Sara asked, running her hand along Callie's back as they lay in bed together. Sara was admiring all of the different scars and wounds that the girl had decorating her skin. Rolling around so that they were chest to chest, Callie smiled at her new fiance. The ring was glinting in the light and the sweat that was glistening on their bodies reminded Callie exactly how they had ended up talking about her scars.

"That one, that's from when I first joined the league. Same as this one," she informed Sara, pointing to a faint scar that ran across the side of her hip. "I've never told anyone about it, but it wasn't even a battle wound. I just fell on the rocks cause they were slippery, and I accidentally stabbed myself with the arrow in my hand." Callie laughed as Sara leaned down, her lips pressing lightly against the scar that rested on her hips, causing Callie to laugh and pull the girl back up so that their lips were connecting instead.

"This one," Callie continued once they pulled apart. "That's from the time we fought the Dominators." Sara knew that scar well, she had been the one to have caused it, but Callie didn't really care anymore.

"That one there," Sara said, pointing to the most recent of scars that Callie had. "That's from when I shot you."

They both laughed, knowing that their past wasn't exactly picture perfect. Callie moved the covers slightly, motioning to the arrow wound on Sara's stomach from when both Rip and Callie had been brainwashed by the legion and had shot her - Rip with a gun and Callie with a crossbow.

"That was me," Callie said, a slight tinge of guilt to her voice. There was a second of silence before Callie's grin reappeared as she ran her hand over a new mark on Sara's neck. "That was definitely me," she laughed, talking about the dark hickey that had formed on the girls skin.

Sara laughed, pushing Callie's shoulder before moving to continue where they had left off.

___

"On my hip," Callie started, knowing that this was risky to try but it was her last proper hope. "There's a scar," she continued, noticing how Sara's eyes flickered slightly as she knew exactly what Callie was talking about. The two men looked unamused by this, thinking that it was useless information. "I tell everyone it's a battle wound, but I lied. It's from my own arrow and I got it when I first started at the League..."

Callie was cut off my Barry. "Wow, we definitely know you're Callie now!" He sarcastically exclaimed, but Sara wasn't paying any attention to the doubts of the boys.

"If this is Callie," Sara muttered to the men, turning around so that Callie couldn't hear what they were saying. "Then she'll have the same scars. If they match up, then we know it's her."

Oliver nodded before he looked back to Barry and Sara. "But how do we know if they match up? We've barely seen her scars, let alone seen her naked."

There was a moment of silence before the boys looked at Sara to see her looking at them with an awkward smile while she waited on them to figure out what she was hinting at. Rubbing the back of his neck with his hand, Barry rambled awkwardly for a second as Oliver caught on.

"Oh."

"Oh, indeed."

"We'll just, eh, stand over there, I guess," they muttered, moving to turn their backs to give Sara a little privacy. Reaching over, Sara turned off the camera for a second so that she could ask to check the scars.

Unlocking the restrains on Callie, it took everything for the raven-haired girl to not try and embrace Sara the second she could. But she knew that she was so close to being able to finally hold her again, she just needed to prove one thing.

Tugging off the black shirt that she had been wearing under her Earth-X uniform, Callie moved her hair so that Sara was able to look at the scars that marked her body. Moving forward, Sara reached out cautiously as she ran her finger along the long scar on Callie's back like she had done only months prior.

As Callie turned around slowly, Sara noticed the scar on her hip that she had previously gotten familiar with. Just before she could believe it was her Callie, she knew that there was one last scar that would prove to her who it was. Letting her eyes run up from her hip to her stomach, Sara noticed the two scars that she had caused in the past year.

Callie, knowing that Sara was convinced, pulled the t-shirt back on over her head as she stared at Sara for a second.

"Guys?" Sara whispered, causing the men to turn around. "It's true."

There was a deafly silence throughout the room before Sara finished confirming what they hadn't thought was possible.

"It's Callie. Our Callie."
