chapter 28

Callie jumped slightly as Wally suddenly zoomed out of the bridge, the bright yellow streak making her blink slightly as her hair fluttered from the sheer speed that he had whizzed by her at. Sara smiled softly across the room, forever finding it cute how Callie always seemed shocked when one of their team used their powers despite her being very aware they possessed them.

"How long do you think he'll take?" Ava asked outloud, an open question to try and calm down everyone's nerves at sending the newbie into saving Ray when he was being held by the Darhk's. Callie shrugged as she noticed that no one else was wanting to provide a guess, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she took Ava's bait.

The raven haired girl shrugged, zipping up the hoodie she was wearing as she felt a little colder. "He'll probably take a few minutes," Callie reckoned, expecting there to be a little scuffle between the two team members and the family that she was still itching to get out there and fight. No-one had let Callie anywhere near Nora or Damien since their reappearance, and while she understood the reasoning behind that decision, she was still annoyed at not being able to fight her nemesis.

Sara shook her head, smiling at Callie as the raven moved to stand next to her. The blonde knew that the girl was extremely worried about Ray but was trying to not show in in front of Rip. Sara had known Callie wasn't keen on the man after all the stories she had heard, but she also knew that Callie wasn't going to try and start anything with him for the time being.

Just before anyone else could say anything, two sets of footsteps made them all turn to see Ray and Wally come strolling into the bridge, everyone bursting into grins as they saw their teammate alive and well. Callie scanned Ray over carefully from her spot next to Sara, her eyes checking every movement he made to make sure that he wasn't trying to hide any injuries from them.

"Ray, thank God you're back," Sara told him, grinning from where she stood at the table. Callie moved from her spot next to the blonde and Nate released his best friend from their bro hug. Walking towards the sceintist, she pulled him into a hug - the surprise on all of the teams face also being reflected on Ray's face.

They knew that Callie valued them as family ever since they helped save her from Earth-X, but they really hadn't realised just how comfortable the girl was getting around them. Ray almost thought back to when Callie wanted nothing to do with any of them and had only joined their voyage to make sure Sara was safe, and now here she was making sure they all were safe.

"Yeah, dishes need cleaning," Mick said from behind them all, his beer resting on his knee as he sat on the steps that lead to the Captains room. Everyone chuckled slightly, the joke whooshing over Ray's head slightly since he didn't realise that was the only reason they had noticed he had gone missing originally.

"Ha! And I can't wait to get 'em done!" Ray exclaimed in delight as Callie released him, allowing his to swing an arm across her shoulders and keep her tucked under his arm. Everyone watched slightly amazed at how Callie was allowing the prolonged contact but no one was prouder than Sara. She had been waiting for the girl to fully accept that she was a part of the team and this seemed to have been the final turning moment for the Merlyn. "Rip nice to see... Wait, is it nice to see Rip?"

Everyone shared contemplating looks before Sara eventually shrugged and muttered a yeah, that certainly did not found very convincing. Callie sent the man a cold look as he began to speak, still very aware that the ex-assassin standing across from them might have warmed to the rest of the team but certainly not to him.

"I hope that your abduction afforded you some insights into our opponents' designs," Rip said, barely looking up as he felt his face heat up slightly from the look he could see that Callie was giving him. There were many things he had done wrong in the past, but playing with the team had certainly meant he was high up on the list of people that Callie didn't like and she wasn't going to hide that.

"Yes, they needed me to reignite the Fire Totem, using this," Ray exclaimed, pulling a baby doll from behind his back. Ava held back a laugh as Callie was quick to untangle herself from the man and move back to Sara's side at the sight of the doll, a clear distaste spread across her face.

Nate leaned back towards Callie, muttering that he was in agreement about how creepy it was before they all turned their attention back to the doll that Ray had clutched in his hands.

"Another doll. How wonderful," Mick spoke, raising his beer towards them all as he took another large swig out of the bottle. Callie paused for a moment as she thought about how he had a strangely high tolerance of alcohol considering how much beer he got through a day but yet never seemed to be drunk. She made a mental note to ask Gideon about it later, the small suspicion on her mind that the AI actually was pouring non-alcoholic beer down the man's throat every day.

"Well, no, actually it's..." Ray fuddled with the doll for a moment, before ripping the head off. Callie groaned at the man's actions, half expecting it to come to life and attempt to possess them all. "The secret to cold fusion, which is pretty epic. Now all we're missing is the Fire Totem."

"Oh, you mean this?"

Everyone turned to look at Wally who was still wearing his yellow speedster outift, hit hands wrapped around a small pouch that he had came back from recusing Ray with. Everyone squinted in disbelief at the boy as he threw the totem across the room to Ray with a grin on his face. Callie let out a delighted laugh at the scene before her, a grin breaking out on all of their faces as they realised Wally had just wiped out another mission for them.

"Yeah," Ray said, taking the totem out of the pouch and looking at it. "How'd you get this?"

"Well, I saw it in Damien Darhk's pocket, and I thought, 'Yo, that would make a sick souvenir."

"Well, great. I can get to work putting this back together right now. Then it'll be three against two," hearing the footsteps behind him, Ray turned to look at Zari and Amaya. "And with yours, it'll be four to one."

"We found out that my totem has been corrupted when we were on our vision quest," Amaya admitted, the grin on Callie's face instantly being wiped off by the bad news. She watched as Ray's shoulders slumped slightly at the news before Zari started trying to give them the semi-good news that they had also discovered.

"We did find out why the Darhks are so psyched about anachronisms. The more the timeline's corrupted, the weaker the prison holding Mallus becomes. If they continue destroying history, the demon will be freed," she informed them all, her smile being very forced as everyone realised the strong consequences that would come if the Darhk's were able to succeed with their plans.

"You should inform the Time Bureau immediately," Rip turned to Ava and Sara, the Lance pursing her lips in annoyance at how Rip was almost begging to get his job back. She shot Callie a look before Ava nodded in agreement.

"Uh, Gideon, patch us through to Director Bennett, please."

While Ava, Sara and Rip walked into the Captain's room to talk to Director Bennet on the system, Callie moved back to where Wally, Nate and Ray were standing in casual conversation. Sending one last look to where the three leaders were talking to the Bueruea leader, Callie turned and followed her friends out of the room as they talked about looking over Ray's suit to check it was okay.

_______

"Wally. Hey. I just wanted to say, good job out there. Are you sticking around?"

Wally and Callie turned around in the corridor as they heard Sara call out from behind them. Callie wasn't going to lie, she was going to miss her new friend once he left with Rip and she too wanted him to stay with the legends.

"Um no, I-I might join Rip at the Time Bureau instead," Wally admitted, scratching his head as he looked between the two women.

"Yeah, I mean, I get that, if you want to go hang out with a bunch of stiffs instead of the cool kids, but, yeah," Sara joked, but there was an underlying hint of seriousness in her voice as she smiled at the boy. She knew that Callie and him were getting along really well and she didn't want Wally to get hurt at the Bureau, especially after what had just happened to Director Bennet.

"Well, I'm kind of getting, like, a weird vibe here," Wally admitted, a scowl slightly on his face as he thought about it. "Like, I feel like Mick and Zari both hate me already, and the others are probably not that far behind, so..."

Sara groaned, interupting the boy from his overthinking as she tried once more to convince him to stay. "So what? I mean, when Nate first arrived, he threw Ray into the Temporal Zone. Amaya beat everybody up. Zari tricked us into pulling off a heist. And Mick well, he's betrayed us at least ten times."

"And hey," Callie said, reaching out and lightly touching the speedsters hand. "I've tried to kill everyone at least three times now."

Wally laughed slightly before he realised she was being serious and turned his laugh into a slightly awkward cough. Sara chuckled at his awkwardness before she turned back to look at the boy with another plea.

"I mean, we're kind of like, uh, the all-stars of bad first impressions, so I think you'd fit in great."

Just as she said this, Rip turned the corner and smiled at his new friend. His step faultered slightly as he saw the glare that Callie instantly shot in his direction but he nevertheless continued forward to stand beside the trio.

"Wally, there you are. Ready to leave?"

Callie sighed as Wally began to move slightly, sad that she was going to have to say goodbye to another friend for the time being. The boy looked at her for a moment before pausing in his steps and cutting the conversation into a completely different direction.

"I'm actually gonna stay."

Callie's face broke out into a large grin as she listened to Wally's words to Rip. Sara squeezed her hand in agreement, a smile also on the woman's face as they looked at their newest adopted member of the team. Rip paused, a knowing look on his face as he looked between the three with a small smile.

"I was hoping you would."

Ava approached them then, a small smile on her face that was quickly masked by the terror of the situation the three had just watched prior.

"Well, I wish we could stay longer, but my boss was just murdered by a gorilla, not to mention the mess in Berlin that needs fixing."

Everyone nodded, Sara smiling at her newest best friend in comfort. "Well, call me."

"Until next time, Captain Lance," Ava joked, waving as she walked down the corridor.

"Until next time, Agent Hunter," Sara shouted back, a laugh escaping the suited woman's lips as she turned to see Callie waving frantically with a soft smile on her face. She was glad that her best friend's wife was finally warmed up to her, and for once it almost felt like their time travelling family was complete.

______

Callie rested her head on Sara's shoulder as they laid next to each other in their room. The blonde was light sifting her fingers through Callie's hair as the raven haired girl struggled to keep her eyes open.

"I love you," Callie murmured, allowing her eyes to finally shut as she snuggled closer into Sara's side.

There was no hesitation in the blonde's voice as she whispered back in the darkness.

"I love you too."
