chapter 27

"We are still not any closer to finding Ray. Nate, I need you hitting those books. Look for any sign of him," Sara directed the historian, standing up from where she had been sitting previously at the pilot chair of the ship. She was considerably stressed, and the sudden appearance of Rip wasn't really calming down her nerves. "Gideon, scan the anachronism map. Something pops up, you let us know!"

"Rory," Sara started but she was immediately cut off by the man declaring he was going to drink another six-pack of beer. She sighed for a brief moment, muttering a small "do what you do", out of her mouth before looking back to the rest of the team that had gathered around them.

"I'll head back to the Bureau, put our resources on it, too," Ava informed the captain, Callie sending a small smile in the woman's direction. She hadn't been very keen on the woman at first since she believed that she was trying to flirt with Sara, but since her worries had been squished she had decided there was no reason she couldn't try to form a friendship there.

"I have an idea. It's a little experimental," Amaya told them all, looking between everyone and pausing for a moment longer on Zari. Callie placed her bow down from where she had been standing tightening the string, moving further into the room to hear about the idea that Amaya had.

"I'm listening."

"Well, we know that Ray is with the Darhks, and so is my totem. If I meditate with Zari, using her totem to anchor me, I think I can reach out to the Ancestral Plane," Amaya informed them all, a little bit of uncertainly in her voice as she explained the idea that she had. She wasn't 100% if it was even possible but they had to at least try for Ray's sake. "If we find my totem..."

"Then you find Ray," Callie and Sara said at the same time, Wally slightly jumping as he remembered Callie had been standing at the back of the room the whole time. He composed himself before turning to look at Sara, raising his hand in the air slightly to catch her attention.

"Meditation? I've actually been doing a lot of that, and I think I could help you," Wally interupted, his eyes flicking back to Callie still wearily as no one had informed him of the events that had occurred since the girl had tried to kill not only his friends but his sister months prior.

Sara and Callie shared a look before the blonde turned her full attention to the speedster that they were temporarily hosting onboard. Callie tugged on her hoodie that she had been holding, feeling a little colder as the doors swung open while Nate walked out of the room to get to work.

"Perfect. Make it happen."

Just as the three turned to leave the room, Sara looked at Callie with a soft smile on her face that made Callie sighed as she knew exactly what Sara was wanting her to do. The raven haired girl made a hand gesture to her wife before jogging after them, unease filling Wally's face as he realised he was about to sit in a small space with the previously brainwashed assassin.

_________

"So I just eat this Lyoga root, and it's, boom, vision quest?" Zari asked, holding the root up in front of her face. Callie was leaning against the wall of the room as she tried to put as much distance in between the trio and herself. Mediation wasn't something she was interested in, especially as the previous few times where she had been in a mediative state it had been when she was being brainwashed.

"No. That much would kill you. This tea has plenty to take you to the world between worlds. We'll use your totem to anchor us while we look for any signs of mine and, hopefully, Ray along with it," Amaya explained to them all, still a little uneasy from the way Callie had seperated herself from them. She knew that there was something going on with the girl but they had all just put it down to her still recovering from Earth-X, but she had thought that Callie had gotten over that by now.

"The incense will calm you, and I'm just gonna ease you into the altered state through some guided meditation," Wally finished the explanation, taking a deep breath as he shook his shoulders slightly. Callie made a mental note to grab him after this and actually explain the events of her working with the evil Earth-X villains to try and calm him down when he was in her presence.

"Thank you for helping us."

Zari fidgeted for a moment before turning her head to the side of the room where the assassin was faintly watching. "No offence, what's Callie's part in this?"

"Emotional support, I guess," Callie shrugged, knowing that Sara was just trying to get her more involved in team matters. It was no secret that the raven haired girl was still finding it hard to adjust after coming back from Earth-X, especially when changes had happened in the team.

Despite all of them knowing that was certainly not the reason, they all just nodded before Zari and Amaya turned back to look at Wally. The man was sitting crossed legged with a small smile on his face as he prepared to guide them to the altered state.

Amaya smiled warmly at him, tilting her head slightly as she recalled how Nate and Wally had greeted each other previously. "So how do you know Nathaniel?"

Wally grinned widely back as he thought about him and Nate had been the best of friends before the Legends had rebanded. He had missed hanging out with the man, and it was great that they were getting to see each other again.

"I was kind of like his wingman back in Central City. Just helped him get over a broken heart, actually, because this basic bitch just dumped him on his birthday," Wally exclaimed, not realising the tension he had just inserted into the room.

Callie furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, she hadn't even realised that Amaya and Nate had called things off properly. A wave of guilt rushed over her as she started to consider that she had spent so much time thinking about her own issues that she hadn't really gotten caught up on the things that had been happening with her own team.

Wally laughed as he thought about what he had just said and the audacity that the woman possessed for breaking up with his friend on his birthday.

"Can you believe that?" Wally said, not noticing the uncomfortable look on their faces. Amaya felt a slight anger rise in her as she narrowed her eyes slightly, while Zari let her head drop as she sucked in the tension that had been unleashed into the room.

"Yeah'cause I was actually that basic bitch," Amaya snarked, her lips turned at the corners in a grimace as she watched Wally instantly realise what he had just done.

"Great vibe, Wally. I think we can take it from here," Zari said, worried that Amaya was going to rip the man into shreds for calling her a basic bitch. Callie sighed as she pushed herself off the floor, moving over and holding out a hand to help Wally up from the ground.

He smiled gratefully as he grasped her wrist and allowed her to help him back to his feet, before muttering a quick goodbye to Zari and Amaya before following Callie out of the room. As the door shut behind him, he slumped slightly as he realised that he had definitely upset the woman.

"Don't beat yourself up about it," Callie told him, making him turn to look at her in surprise. He could tell that she was trying to mask some sort of guilt that she was feeling and he instantly felt bad for shying away from her whenever she had entered a room. "I hadn't even realised they had broken up."

Wally shrugged as they began to walk towards the kitchen area. Sara and the others were all doing their own things as they tried to find Ray so the two had a moment free to grab a drink and a snack. He let his thoughts run for a second before he looked back over at Callie, noticing how the girl held on to her left arm slightly.

"What's up with your arm?"

Callie furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at him, before noticing that she had been holding it. She shrugged, not aware why she had been grasping it.

"It just hurts here and there sometimes," she murmured, "it was cut off by Damien Darhk in a future that got erased, but I sometimes have moments where I remember the pain."

Wally paused in the corridor, placing a gentle hand on her arm as he drew them both to a stop. Callie had never really been a fan of people touching her but she didn't mind for some reason at that moment. It had been a long time since anyone but Sara hadn't felt scared to reach out and try to physically comfort the girl.

"Do you want to talk about anything?"

"Yeah actually, that would be nice."

______

"So Ray's nowhere to be found, and things are getting worse at the Bureau. Bennett is so stubborn. He's refusing any meetings with Rip that don't involve shackles. Ah, I'm so sorry. Here I am babbling about Bureau politics, and your friend's in trouble. How are you holding up?"

Sara ignored Ava out of frustration as she turned around, allowing her hand to flex as the throwing star flew through the office and sliced a printed photo of Damien Darhk in half. She sighed deeply as Ava blinked slightly, impressed but also concerned that Sara was not talking.

"Mutilating photos of your nemesis. Got it. Well, at least our nonverbal communication ioills are off to a good start," Ava said, trying to calm the woman down as she looked at her friend.

Sara sighed again before turning to look back at her friend, her arms raising in frustration as she brought them back to smack against her body in annoyance. "Everything that we're doing to find Ray, it's turning up empty."

Ava furrowed her brows as she reached out and placed a soft hand on Sara's arm, trying to comfort the other blonde as she thought about their missing teammate. The woman was almost surprised that Callie wasn't in the room as usually she would stick to their Captain's side, a result of having spent 3 years thinking that she was never going to see her again, Ava could only assume.

"Hey, you're gonna get Ray back, I promise."

"I'm so worried about him Ava," Sara explained, knowing that crossing paths with the Darhk's wasn't good for anyone. "And then I'm worried about what's going to happen when him and Callie are going to inevitably end up crossing paths again. She killed him before Ava, and he knows that. Heck, he's tried to kill her once or twice too. I guess I'm just worried he'll succeed and not only will I lose Callie but I'll also have lost Ray. Now that Stein is also gone, I just can't imagine having to loose another friend."

_____

Wally listened to Callie as she talked about her concerns about coming back from Earth-X with hundreds more kills under her belt and with a powered Damien Darhk having her friend help captive. Just as she went to tell him that she was concerned that he was going to use Ray to get to her, they were interrupted by the ship shaking roughly.

"What was that?" Wally asked Callie as it stopped, the girl jumping to her feet in concern as she turned back to look at the speedster.

"It's a timequake. We need to get to the bride," Callie told him, holding back vomit as he grabbed on to her and whizzed them both into the bridge. She paled slightly as they skidded to a halt, before looking around and noticing Rip and Sara had just experience the same quake that they had.

"Gideon, what's the source?"

"An Aberration has occurred in 1962. It appears that someone has blasted a hole - in the Berlin Wall," the AI told them all, Callie feeling hopeful at the fact that it was most likely Ray related - which meant that Darhk hadn't killed him. Yet.

"Ray."

"I'm guessing that's bad," Wally checked, causing everyone to nod.

Sara nodded, turning around to face Wally as she explained what had just caused the time quake.

"Those are tears in the fabric of time itself. Gideon, plot a course for East Berlin, 1962. All right, kid, you're up. Let's see how fast you really are."
