chapter 21

As Sara and Callie exchanged rings, the room all shared joyful laughter as both of the women's hands shook while trying to place the ring on the other. Once they finally had managed to stop their excitement and get the rings on their fingers, there was only one thing left to do.

"I officially announce you wife and wife, you may now kiss the bride!"

And while their friends cheered and hollered as they shared their first kiss as a married couple, Callie swore that her life had never felt more complete than in that moment.

"This is certainly different to the type of parties we grew up at," Tommy murmured to Oliver, nudging the man in the side as they looked out across the room from where they were standing at the bar.

Oliver laughed, raising his beer and clinking it against Tommy's. "Yeah, I'll drink to that."

Looking back across the room, he watched as Callie and Sara started their first dance as a married couple. Their friends and family had all turned their attention to the dance floor, and he was sure that he spotted Felicity taking numerous photos of the happy couple. Barry had his arms wrapped around Iris from behind as they swayed lightly at the side of the dance floor.

Callie was laughing loudly, her head thrown back as she took delight in whatever Sara had murmured into her ear during their special moment on the dance floor. Oliver could see Laurel from across the room standing beside her father as they hugged each other while watching the two former assassins finish up their first dance.

While Oliver had never really been a massive fan of the team that Sara and Callie travelled around with, he knew that there was nothing him or the others could do that would ever be able to repay what they had done for them all that night. He didn't like being in debt to people - but this was one time that he knew wouldn't bother him.

Watching as their dance ended and everyone around him let out loud cheers, he couldn't help but stand still as he watched Laurel and Tommy join up on the dance floor with the other couples in the room. A lump formed in his throat as he raised the beer in his hands to his lips, thinking about the moments they had lost just like this one.

A warm and gentle hand wrapped around his own, snapping his eyes away from the couple and to the blonde woman that was standing on his left looking at him with nothing but a knowing look. He smiled gently, allowing her to pluck the beer from his hand and take it a sip of it herself.

"I know it's been a hard journey that started that second we decided to get on that boat together," Sara told him as she passed him the beer back, "but I'll forever be grateful for the lessons it's taught us."

"And what lessons would that be?" Oliver asked, knowing the lessons he had learned. He knew she had learned the same but the curiosity inside him of whether she had learnt anything else was revisited in her words.

"To love without fear, that no amount of pain can bring someone back, everything can be solved with a little team-up," Oliver laughed at that one, snorting as she finished her list, "and that everything is worth a little wait."

Looking down at her hand as he gave it a tight squeeze, his eyes trained on to the golden band that now rested on her ring finger. A wide smile burst across his face as he looked back across the dance floor at where Callie was dancing and spinning around with Kara and Iris, a wide smile spread across her face.

"Sara Lance, oh how we've grown."

By the time Mick had set three of the tablecloths on fire, Sara and Callie knew it was time for them to make their leave. Having changed out of their wedding outfits, they began to bid their farewells to all of their friends who had gathered at the manor to celebrate with them. The Legends didn't say goodbye for they would see the newly married couple only minutes later as they flew them to their Honeymoon destination.

They said goodbye to team flash first, wishing them all a farewell as Cisco prepared to vibe them back to Central City. The nights celebrations had almost made them all forget that they all had different problems going on in their lives and teams that they had to go back to. Barry and Iris reminded them to relax on their honeymoon and not let any of the Legends ruin it with fake disaster alerts - something that seemed so specific that Callie knew there was a backstory behind it.

They wished Alex and Kara a goodbye next. Callie really wished that she could have held back the cheeky comment that fell from her lips but she just found it too funny to not blurt out during their exchange with the sisters.

"Well Alex, I'm just happy you didn't sleep with my wife at this wedding."

There was a moment of silence before Kara burst out into uncontrollable laughter, Alex turned bright red and Sara smacked her across the shoulder in surprise at the joke that Callie had let fall from her lips. The older Danvers sister seemingly didn't know how to reply, unsure on whether the Merlyn was joking around with her.

"She's joking," Sara shushed Callie, pulling Alex and Kara into a group hug as they watched as they moved to join Cisco who had just returned after taking team flash home. The man was going to vibe them back to their earth again; something that was becoming more and more common.

Saying goodbye to the Star City vigilante and his band of merry men was a lot easier than Callie and Sara expected. With the amount of times recently that they had found themselves being with the man and visiting him for different things, they no longer felt like every goodbye was the beginning to an Oliver Queen shaped drought in their lives but rather just old friends who would see each other soon enough.

The man hugged them both tightly, his oldest friends. They both hugged him back with equal conviction as the emotions between the three travelled around the small bubble that had been created for that small moment. There was so much unspoken discussions between the three that Callie knew would never be uttered. Maybe that was why their friendship would survive until the end of time, Callie mused.

After hugging Felicty amid promises of the blonde nerd sending them all of the footage she had taken from the wedding, it was time to wish a farewell to Quentin Lance.

The gruff man pulled his youngest daughter in for a tight hug, wiping s tear from his eye as he prepared to send her off on her honeymoon. Muttering softly into her ear, Callie evaded her gaze as she let them have their father daughter moment.

Noticing the woman that was approaching her, Callie realised that they had another emotional goodbye left before they could fully go.

Laurel Lance wrapped her arms around the girl as she pulled her tightly into a hug. The defence attorney looked just how Callie would remember her for the rest of her life; a vision of pure strength and humanity.

"You take care of my sister," the girl said, tears brimming in her eyes as she realised that this would be the final time they would see her. And while she had a while with them once she got back home: she knew it wasn't going to be like this. "I might not remember this fully when I get back to my timeline, but I will always remember you guys."

Tommy was last to say goodbye to the Falcon. Callie felt her breath catch in her chest as she launched herself at her brother, her fingers grasping on to him for dear life as if it would stop him from ever having been taken from her too soon. He sighed in content, running his hands through his little twin sister's hair.

They rested there for a moment, a unity of past and present respecting the boundaries of time travel. They knew this moment was coming; but it didn't make it any easier.

"This isn't goodbye," Tommy told her, not a single hesitation in his voice as he pulled back to hold her at arms length. "Not really."

"I don't want you to go," Callie whispered, tucking her head back into the crook of his neck.

"I know. But it's time for you to let me go."

____

It had been one whole week since the first time that Callie and Sara's feet had sunk into the soft sand of the beach. They had been told by Nate all about the anonymous honeymoon booker, how an envelope had somehow ended up in their hands only days before the wedding that held the keys to a private beach house on the shores of Hawaii. The area was seemingly deserted minus the maid that had came every second day to replace the towels that rested in their shower.

Callie and Sara both had an inkling as to who had done such a thing for them. While Callie knew that there never again would be a relationship between herself and her father, it was something that reminded her that he hadn't always been the man that he had became. Sara wasn't keen on accepting the gift from the Merlyn man, but upon hearing Callie explain that this wasn't any indication that he was trying to get back into her life but rather a sign to tell her that this was the last time they'd ever have contact, she accepted it with ease.

Callie stood on the beach at the end of the seventh day in her white bikini and white overshirt. The unbuttoned garment fluttered behind her gently in the light breeze that the ocean had provided her with and her raven hair hung in loose curls on her back as she stared across the water at the sun setting before her.

Soft thuds in the sand behind her allowed her to instantly identify the arms that snakes around her waist as a head rested lightly on her shoulder from behind. A smile grew across Callie's face as she titled her head ever so slightly to allow her lips to meet Sara's in a gentle kiss.

"What you thinking about?" Sara asked softly, Callie turning in her arms to properly face her wife as they stood in the orange glow of the sunset.

Callie paused, running a finger down Sara's jaw as she stared lovingly into the piercing blue eyes that were watching her every move and reaction. She didn't want to put a damper on their honeymoon, but she knew that Sara knew exactly what she had on her mind.

"It still feels surreal, yanno? To be here with you, not trapped in those three years where nothing good happened," Callie muttered, closing her eyes as she tried to stop some of the terrible memories from clouding her eyes as they sprung to the front of her mind. "I thought I'd never get to see this."

Sara made a gentle cooing noise, lightly nuzzling her neck against the side of Callie's as she nudged the girl's head up to meet her eyes once more. The raven haired girl blinked as she stared back at Sara, unsure on what the blonde was going to say to her.

"I know," the Lance breathed, a soft smile on her face. "But it's real. We're real and this is all real."

Callie nodded, pressing their lips together before allowing Sara to grab her hand and gently tug her through the sand and back towards their beach house. Callie let out a loud laugh at her wife's enthusiasm (she would never get over being able to say those words: her wife).

"What's the rush?"

Sara didn't even look back at Callie over her shoulder as they re-entered the property. She simply shrugged, flung her flip flops into the corner and ran a hand through her blonde locks before turning back around to smirk at the girl.

Callie barely had a moment to breathe before Sara was pushing her down on to the couch that rested on the veranda that overlooked the ocean. The raven haired girl let out a surprise cackle, resting her hands on Sara's hips as the blonde looked down on her from where she was straddling the girl.

"Shut up and kiss me," Sara muttered, her voice barely audible from the waves washing up against the beach.

One more look at Sara in the glowing sunset was enough for Callie to mentally pinch herself. She was here and nothing would change that.

For once, everything was working out amazingly for Sara and herself and little did she know it but it was going to be like that for a long time.
